Default What do you think after watching The Incomparable Live VCD/DVD?

Hello guys, I’m sure some of u have watched the Incomparable to Jay Live VCD/DVD. Here i‘d like to know how u think about this concert in Taipei.

Firstly, I’d like to say I love Jay’s performance and his interactions with the audience. He certainly has improved a loooot ! This is the only incomparable concert I went, so everything is good to me. Are there some things need to be improved compare with other incomparable concerts?

I love each song but I have my faves, will talk abt it later.
Yi fu zhi ming really surprised me. Although I watched him rehearsal twice before the concert kicked off, I missed a few parts. I love the beginning, and in fact I couldn’t find where he was when he sang the first few lyrics. Hooo…he’s descending with a cross!! Brave Jay!! And everyone was like…Oh my “GOD”! that day everyone heard him sing this song live for the first time. It’s so very diao!!! Oh, almost forgot his chair dancing. I must ask him how the chair can move like that. And if u saw the behind the scenes footstage in the dvd, u would know he practiced really hard lo!!
The second track is good cuz I like the music. Then “Her eyelashes/ Sunny day/You can hear” bored me a little, but I have to say I like how Jay changed the tune of You can hear, and the part “la la la”.

Ti tian + Dad, I’m back to luan wu chun qu is my fave part of the concert. It seems like everyone loves ti tian + dad I’m back. Yes, they did really good job remixing the two songs, and Jay can play the flute pretty well, its more than 1 min long I think. Jay is a genius. *Thumbs up*
And I smiled crazily when I saw him sing pi-chu, pi-chu, pi-ka-chu, pointing at the audience with the flute, his pose was too cute la!!!
Yuan yu hui is one of my fave songs in QLX. And he walked to our side and sang “ Where is my ticket to Jay chou(‘s concert)?” so cute! I was so excited bcos I love this song so much!! Then he added a few lyrics of “Cute woman” which sounds perfectly. Genius!!

I like the atmosphere when Jay sang Jiang jun and luan wu chun qiu. Everyone was high and screamed like hell cuz the firework and music was amazing!!!!! Jay danced a lot during the two songs( well, much more at the other concerts!) but he was really cute when he picked up the phone and answered it.

Then it comes to the unplugged part which is also my fave. Xing qing is a bit too old for me, but everyone still loves it and sings along including me since it’s the song that makes him known by Taiwanese fans!!
Back to the past is not bad too cuz he changed the lyrics which touched our hearts. (he sang : Thank u all for coming to see me, I’m very touched and happy!)

Last battle, what can I say! Its great!! I couldn’t remember he said “Geng hong, geng hong…..today u will not be onstage, I’ll sing all by myself” so sute and funny. Then at first he forgot the lyrics, singing “ What am I going to do? I forget the following lyrics, but its ok, I will make up the lyrics right here and now, ok? If ok, just say Yes!” then we screamed “YES!!!” isn’t it a good interaction? Woohoo! I like that! But lovely Jay then remembered all the lyrics!! XD good for him! At last, I almost cried when he sang “Geng hong is over there.” Ohhhh…how sweet that he didn’t forget his best frd!

Wo de di pan must be the highlight cuz he forgot 90% of the lyrics and made up his own. At first he sang “How r you?” in korean which matched the melody perfectly, then he kept making fun of dan tou, saying dan tou’s his Dog! (How mean he is ,but its funny!! )

Nan quan mama’s songs r good! I love the two songs. “Childhood” leaded Jay to sing the chorus – I wanna stay, or stay away, b4 that, the audience sang “ I wanna stay” loudly which was great!! So later when Jay came in front of the stage, he said “thank u all for giving nan quan mama a chance to perform”. Actually we really like their music!! How Jay supports NQMM touches me! And I do like watching NQMM’s performace too!

Oh well, the piano part isn’t perfect. In the beginning his voice was a bit “dead”, I could felt that when he coughed a little after singing “childhood”. But he did better job later, especially “Excuse”, everybody sang only. Wa jie was excellent! I love this song and thought I could never hear NQMM sing the song live. But Jay sang it with his own style. I like it and now we can sing it in Karaoke. Woohoo!!!

Wishing me happy b-day amazed me. His voice sounds good and Landy’s voice is beautiful. The two sang perfectly together.

Another remix- Shuang dao + nunchuncks + long quan tops my list. He looks so cool here. And his moves and expressions r cute when there were a few Chinese kung-fu tones in Long quan.
We first time heard him sing the 8th track from QLX , sorry don’t know the pinyin and its English translation. I am not really into this song, but I think he sang almost every song written by Geng Hong at the concert. Nice Jay!!

I like Jay’s version of Dao dai. Before singing this song, he said he hope his version is better than the original version (Jolin’s) He didn’t say her name but we all think his version is great, rite?
He “murmured” at the end but sounds beautiful.

Simple love is another old song to me ;p.
QLX is the hits. Jay acted that he’s gonna jump down, and his face looks like – I got u! *Bad boy*! the fans, including my bro and me who were in front of the stage freaked out. If there was speaker, he might really jump on it like what he did at other concerts. But as u can see, the stage was pretty dxxx far away from us. Well, at least we stood at the front”est” which was “nearest” to Jay!

Now its “wai po”. This song was totally out of my expectation, I didn’t hear him rehearse this song! Its probably the so-called “ENCORE”. I love his car, and the cameramen kept focusing on his grandmom. His grandmom and all his family must be proud at that moment! How come his grandson/son/cousin…be such a genius? Duan le de xuan (not sure abt the pinyin)- his voice is so clear that makes this song beautiful. At the end, he said “ hope two years later we can see again right here!” My heart sank. >”< Another two years!!! Well, at least he will not disappoint me!!!
Finally last two songs!! Dong feng po, which must be the parents’ fave was great, I didn’t notice that he didn’t sing it till the band played the music and Jay appeared once again. I must say he really sang his heart out, especially Gui ji. Although chose it as the final song was a little bit weird/ sad, he really sang it very well, he closed his eyes a lot of times and I almost cried. My frd did cry when he sang it, its so touching, cuz we all knew it was the LAST song ( Jay said so, and it really was!!) I forgot how many times we shouted for encores. We have shouted Jie Lun Jie Lun non stop (as encore) before QLX, but it was not counted in the encore part. So we have two encores, two songs for each.

All in all, Not only Jay’s performance improved, but his shyness disappeared. He talked, joked, danced and sang along, he amazed us that he played the flute very well, he amazed us by his Super Genius. People might say he didn’t pay much effort on memorizing the lyrics, but singing different lyrics makes his concert much more fun and unique. He changes the melodies and tunes of the songs which is different from the CDs makes his concert much more valuable. The design of the stage and the clothes may be important, but without new elements such as the variation of music, the interactions with the audience, etc. its not a successful concert. U may just listen to the CDs at home, however, His concert in Taipei makes me admire and respect him more, great music, and his improvement makes him incomparable, I am sure he keeps improving himself, and he will bring greater performance in other countries. I hope u guys feel the same as I do after watching the incomparable concert in Taipei. Every year Jay has more fans. The numbers of people were more the THE ONE. People appreciate his music and that’s why the numbers of fans r increasing.

Sorry if I bored u with such a long post in poor English, so far I cant come up with any bad parts at the concert. If u guys wanna share the good n bad, plz tell!

wow that was a very long, thorough, detailed, and well-expressed critique of Jay's Incomparable Concert. I still haven't got the chance to watch the DVD yet cuz I am still waiting for my order delivery, but I I did heard all the songs from his concert. I can tell from just listening that it was a very great and successful concert; def better than the ONE concert. I agreed with most of your thoughts and comments on the concert of the different elements he incorporated; it was brilliantly carried out by Jay.

"All in all, Not only Jay’s performance improved, but his shyness disappeared. Its true that Jay's fans has been increasing in numbers and it will only grow even bigger in the coming years, that's why all his concerts were all sold out everywhere he toured. Can you imagine the high demand on his next concert 2 years from now...he gotta double the number of concerts he held this year to satisfied all the fans' hunger...hehehe...I can't wait till he comes to the east coast again...

wowww! what a great critique - i totally agree with you on everything! i was at a video store when i first saw the concert (argh, $5 cheaper than yesasia and i was still waiting for the delivery too!!) and the store clerks kept commenting on how much he has improved on his singing.

the one thing i don't like about the dvd, and it's not his fault, is the editing. they cut out so much of the transitions between songs so you could barely hear the crowd cheer or anything so it sounded like the audience wasn't very alive (and they weren't because in macdawn's clips you can totally hear the crowd). i agree that the piano part was a bit dead, maybe he was trying too hard to memorize the lyrics cuz he said he finally memorized it and he could finally breath a "sigh of relief". but wa jie and happy birthday were SO pretty. ooh, and the part when he said, "guai guai" to dan tou, like he was a dog or something and then kinda scolded him for messing up the lyrics. that was so cute...and then he said, "wo jiu zhi dao ne men dou hen guai". AH, so cute the way he said it!!

alsoooooooo i really like how on "the one" dvd they recorded ALL of the crowd's encores but in "incomparable" they cut all of it except the last bits so it still sounded kind of dead. hearing the crowd makes me so hyperrrr but there wasn't enough of it.

i'm kind of sad that he didn't sing kai bu liao kou or an jing (my all time favorite!). i think there were just too many songs to include and he HAD to cut out, or shorten (like that tiny shuang jie gun part) his old songs because those were in his previous concert and he had to focus on more of the new songs.

oh and i wish they included the taiwanese song because i love when he sings in taiwanese because it's such a cute-sounding language! also it looks like no one was able to touch his hand this time because the audience was SO far away (it was SO cool to see ALL THOSE people there to see jay though, i really liked that shot) from the stage.

btw, how did u get to see the rehearsals and such?

Default Re: What do you think after watching The Incomparable Live VCD/DVD?

yuewawa I hope u get the DVD soon!! the quality is good, but as kewlpiggy said, they cut out a few parts.
How's the east coast concerts? I downloaded some clips from JCNET, and I think he did a better job at the second concert? talked much and was energetic, he danced a lot!!!

He got only one concert in Las Vegas in 2002 and Last year he had 3 concerts in the US, maybe next 2 years...he's gonna have 5 in different cities..woohoo!! I am amazed by Jay's popularity!!!

kwelpiggy U mentioned something i forgot cuz i wasnt watching the dvd when i was writing that article. I dont like the director of the concert, i dont want to see the audience and the banners all the time, i wanna see Jay dancing, moving his body or his expressions, but the director ...errr...disappoints me!!! the only thing I like is also the shot of all the audience from above. My mum & dad and my aunt watching the dvd with me and my bro, and were like What the hell...the tix is free or what? so many many people there.

I think they cut out the transitions bewteen songs is just bcos Jay sang too many songs, probably they dont want the vcd/dvd be too long. I prefer they edit nothing!!!! fans were alive and hyper all the time, as i mentioned above, we kept cheering and shouted " Jie lun jie lun..." as he finished Simple Love, thought the concert's over!! We couldnt get enuff of his performance, same in everywhere!!

I thought he would sing Kai bu liao kou or ye ye pao de cha instead of simple love n songs from the 1st album. well, at least we had wo de di pan, wai po, duan le de xuan and the taiwanese song(almost forget this, i wish they included it too:S). I think he changes the rundown based on the places he tours. what i mean is overseas fans r not familiar with some of his songs, so he sings more old songs.

Ohh..i really like his outfits he wore in unplugged part. and in Last Battle, he said "Sing with me, 1, 2, 3...yi chi lai!" the music sounds perfect and he lifted his arm...i like that atmosphere!! so diao and touching!!!

i rewatched it again!! still think Jay did an excellent job. No one can be better than Jay!! He is humorous and talented and adorable!!!
oH! Why did I see the rehearsals twice? its a opened stadium. if u acted like a normal person (not a crazy fan who bothered them), the stuff wouldnt get u out of there.

I only got to watch the first 8 songs so far. Is it just me or does the audio absolutely SUCK? It sounds like he's lipsynching every song. Thus, making it feel distant and detached. I want to hear the damn crowd!

The instruments were way to loud during 'Her Eyelashes' & 'Cloudless Day'. There was an noticeable audio delay in 'You Can Hear'. The flute part was great, but it sounded fake because of the audio quality.

After reading this, I sound like I hate Jay

OMG He forgot the lyrics to Wo De Di Pan! I knew they sounded Different! (I heard the difference but I didn't understand cause I dont know Chinese.) What lyrics was he saying exactly? What mean things about Dan? LOL. (edit) I found the lyrics on JC.NET I can't believe what he said! LOL my favorite part: Vincent Fang, these lyrics you write are too difficult to memorise. I memorised for a week. Unable to memorise it

You know he didn't dance as much in the Taipei Concert as in the Mohegan sun one...But it was still amazing...cause it was Jay...

Honestly, I never expected the singing part to be better than the original (CD/VCD) studio recordings ! Live is always a little different than studio recordingand most singers just do it impromptu, mixing songs and changing the lyrics to suit the mood of the audience! It's how Jay interacts with the audience, his playing various instruments, dancing etc that I look for in a live concert VCD/DVD!
I would give him 90 marks overall as far as the singing is concerned but to me,the concert VCD/DVD is still more than worth its price. You can see how happy and confident Jay is throughout the performance and the part on "grandma" is the perfect finish!Wish they had other incomparable concerts on VCD too, especially the US ones!Love to see those cartwheels!!

Default Re: What do you think after watching The Incomparable Live VCD/DVD?

I thought the editing of the DVD was very dodgy. It was a big let down, coz it made the concert look kinda boring when I know it wasn't. The editing dudes made it seem as if the crowd wasn't there most of time, not keeping the exciting atmosphere, making the concert seem dead. Especially at the start, where he comes down from the cross, you don't hear much of the crowd screaming crazily at all! And I'm sure they must've been screaming they're heads off.

And another thing was that they kept taking crap shots, for example, in the parts where Jay did dance, the camermen took chest-up shots, so you couldn't see he's body moving, until they showed this birds eye shot, where you actually saw that he was dancing, but not clearly enough. >=[ Arrrgghhh..the bad shot selection of the camera people pissed me off majorly.

And the audio and the video playing seemed not to be perfectly in sync, always being a tinsy bit off, so it did seem like he was lip syncing, even though he wasn't.

I think the best recorded and edited part of the whole DVD was actually Landy Wen's part, when she did her dancing. The right shots were actually chose, so that you could see she was actually dancing, and the whole hot/sexy atmosphere she was trying to create was actually getting across.

So basically whoever did the recording and editing for the DVD sucked badly, in my view.
And the extra footage was rather boring, since they were basically displaying not really interesting images to you, while playing Jay songs in the background.

However, from this concert I could see the Jay's singing skills seemed to have improved much more, and I love how he changes the melodies when singing the songs.

But seriously, the editing and recording really ruined everything that was good, I seriously got kinda bored watching it..
Bah..I'm pissed off at the crew behind the DVD/VCD. >=/ They failed so badly..

the visual quality was quite good, so i was impressed by that.. but i dont know it seemed to be lacking something?it seemed as if it was a bit chopypy? like hte concert didnt have much consistency.. like thye just chopped each song... and then pieced it together?... so i was a bit aggitated by that...
but yeah i didnt see the concert live.. because i live in aus so i had to rely on the dvd/vcd!
but i was also disappointed in the dancing parts.. like ekyec everytime jay was dancing.. they seemed to do upper body shots and so you couldn't really see jay dancing?

oh yeah the extras were so bad..like you couldn't see the thing because there was like an extra square around the image...it was like peeking through a hole or something. also what was that weird computer graphic thing/cartoon? so confused on how it had ANYTHING to do with jay.

also i really didn't like the background graphics during the concert itself...so strange.
