Hmm, I am using the K-Lite Codec Pack, works pretty well for me, maybe you can try it.

I never liked codec packs. Maybe it's because I don't tweak them or don't understand them, but I find a lot of the stuff unnecessary (most force me to use MPC).

I do like the Shark007 codec pack. It installs what it needs into Windows without Media Player Classic (I recall). I used it for 64-bit Vista and it was pretty good. Made Windows Media Player quite useful and powerful.

If you're not a fan of codecs, there's VLC, Kmplayer, Mplayer, GOM, and a bunch of other one-program wonders.

Sorry, I have no idea since I have not encountered problems with the codec pack before.

Did you try and play other videos and see if it works? And maybe look around the codec or the media player settings and see if there is anything unusual? Or else you can try other media players like what orangeman mentioned.

yeh ive tried other videos and they don't play either.. then i realised that they wouldn't play because they were MPEG-4 files and none of the players i have play them which is really strange because they used to play fine.. and now my .avi ones don't play.. hmm how i love computers so much =\

yeh.. i'll try the ones that orangeman suggested..

I think i've encountered same problem when i installed K-Lite basic on my office laptop recently, it worked fine on my other laptop. What I did, i uninstall it, and re-install the mega version instead. I works perfect . You can try if you want, the size is bigger (i think). But I especially prefer it since i really like WMP Classic (HomeCinema) that can play just everything under the sun (hehe)

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
