View Full Version : Is the Incomparable Concert Live DVD & VCD the same?

I know that the DVD has "behind the scenes extra" and the VCD has "Pictures of the concert". But does anyone know if the filming of the concert is the same? Or the quaility of a DVD & VCD is different..?

Im asking because i don't know whether to get the DVD or VCD....

The filming is the same. There should only be one licensed company allowed during the filming of the concert. And also both are released by Warner Music, so there's no reason to believe the way the concert is shot is any different from one another.

One thing I would also like to throw in is that since VCD allow for less space than DVDs, it could be possible they edited some of the clips (as in make them shorter, take mediocre parts out, etc.) to make sure all the songs fit onto the disc. While the DVD may contain a more complete clip of the songs.
THIS IS MY SPECULATION ONLY, NOT 100% CORRECT

In terms of quality, DVD is always clearer. However, VCD is not that bad either. If you have any of Jay's MV VCDs, just look at those, and if you're satisfied with the quality, then there shouldn't be any reason you wouldn't like the quality of the concert VCD instead either.

Another pro for the DVD is that its all on one disc, while VCD is on 3.

You can always wait till they are both released and hear the reviews of members who have bought them as well.

Hope that helps ^^

thankyou! yes that really helped! i might take your advice and wait till other members have got it and see some reviews! thankyou!

i know that the vcd version comes with pictures while the dvd version has bacstage footages, but does anyone know if the dvd will come with pictures also? (I know I seem kinda greedy)
Anyways, I think buying the dvd version from yesasia would be more worth it because, it has more features and shipping for vcd is more since it is 2 shipping units while dvd is only one.

Hmm, I just realized this. Yesasia said that for the VCD:

This version comes with an exclusive Concert Photo Album that features many collector's pics taken during the tour and the song rehearsals and 3 additional tracks including Happy Birthday to Me and Naughty Behavior. Don't miss out on this exceptional Jay must have release!

They don't have Xiao Shi Hou included on the VCD? But it's on the DVD.

I believe that's a typo, they said 3 additional tracks, yet they list only 2. And according to the tracklist, Xiao Shi Hou is on both VCD and DVD.

oh and whether to get DVD or VCD. My take on it is that with the additional footage on the DVD, you can hope some kind members upload it for everyone. But with the photobook from the VCD, people can scan and post it, but it's not like having the actual photobook ya know.

I'm personally getting the DVD, just cause I like DVDs better than VCDs ^^

hahahhha....i agree with mish .....i try to get the DVD version first then the VCD version.. just hope that i'll have enough money to buy both...it's really hard decision to make!!!...why can't they just produce DVD and VCD the same???...it's really frustrating!!..>.<..anywayz..hope the dvd and vcd will sell well!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this thread because i was just wondering the same thing. I was confused too about which one to get. Now that i got everyone's opinion i think i'm gonna get the dvd instead of the vcd as i was planning to before.

i've read all of your threads. thanks for all the info. enlightened me alot! but i think that the DVD is better too. yupp (= however does anyone know when it will be out? i heard that it will be out on february 2nd?? yepp yepp in my point of view, DVD is still better cause its clearer. yupp (=

-zhoujielunrocks, Yeah, according to www.yesasia.com here (http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003947152/code-c/section-karaoke/) and here (http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003947164/code-c/section-karaoke/), it's expected to release on Feb 2! That's like 4 days away!! :excited:

I do think that the DVD is better too. Though it cost more, DVD has more space, so the whole concert will only be in one disc, whereas for VCD, it has lesser space, so it comes in 3 discs!! I'm sure that when you're sitting or lying down comfortably, you won't wanna get up just to change discs rite? So.. DVD is better!!

actually i think it's only like 5 bucks more!! even better!
btw does anybody know what #18 on the DVD version (http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003947164/section-karaoke/code-c/) is? and i still don't understand what "Concert Trivia Edit" is!

jiali
01-30-2005, 08:14 AM
Kewlpiggy88, No. 18 on the DVD version is called Wa Jie (dissolve), a song by Jay but was given to Nan Quan MaMa in the end. That song is really really nice!! It actually sounds so much better when it's sung by Jay than compared to NQMM. Perhaps you might wanna watch the video posted by OllieJ here (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9847&page=2&pp=10)

LOL, now then i realised that it is different!! hmmm, i was intending to but the vcd at first, cause it is cheaper :)) but now, since DVD has footages, i wanna the DVD!! hahas, videos are better than pictures :))

another way, is i can ask a friend who likes jay to buy the VCD version, while i buy the DVD version.. then we can SHARE :))) hahahs.. okays, that is what i am gonna do.. :))) yay!! it is out on the feb 2 WORLDWIDE rights?? hahas.

Question!
Does the picture book that comes with the VCD the same thing as lyric book which comes with the Live CD? i mean it has CONCERT PICTURES too...
I know its kinda impossible to answer this question coz everything is coming in the next few days~~do what you can. :wink2:

muzikanjel
01-30-2005, 09:43 AM
well..i dont think so, because i hve the lyric book of the concert live cd in my hand atm..and on the cover it says "LIVE CD" i guess the one in VCD would be different. The one in the VCD probably..note PROBABLY is full of pictures and no lyrics. Thats my answer! to ur Question! hehe..

01-30-2005, 09:47 AM
eh thanks muzikanjel...that was quick!!!
You have it in your hand right? Be REALLY careful because the pages might FALL OUT!! ok this is true coz it happened to me last night! Im like freaking right now. How to put it back together again? (ooh humpty dumpty) ...whats the best way of taping the book back together again. And No Scotch tape isnt an option.
This goes for a warning for all. Be very gentle to your lyric book because it might avenge your little Jay-loving hearts by pulling itself apart.

this is to the best of my knowledge. when THE ONE concert came out two yrs ago, i bought the vcd since it was cheaper. i watched it a couple of times and left it at my ex-bf's place. just a few wks ago after going to his Incomparable Jay concert, i was dying to rewatch THE ONE concert again. so i ordered some Jay Musical Genius book that came with THE ONE CONCERT DVD. i watched it figuring it would be the same as the vcd but turns out, from the best of my recollection, it was totally different. the vcd was much better from what i recall. the dvd was shot soooooooo badly. whoever the cameraman was should have been fired. they hardly focused on Jay and kept zooming in and out on the stage and audience. plus it looked like it was missing some footage/performances that the vcd had (i thought there was a basketball scene). at the end of the dvd, there's two songs that aren't even sung live and have the recorded versions playing over it like karaoke videos. just seemed like parts weren't sung live whereas the vcd had it all live and more active performances too. but i could be wrong. i went back searching on yesasia for the vcd but they no longer sell it. i tried writing to them but got no response, so i am gonna ask my ex to send me the copy i left. all he remembers is that there's flying squirrels and dragons, which i don't see on the dvd version (it was what was playing in the background on the screen on stage).

so my point is, i am probably going to fork over the extra costs and buy BOTH the dvd and vcd just to satisfy my own curiousity. i'll report back with results unless someone beats me to it and can save me the money. anyone else notice this with THE ONE vcd & dvd or is my memory incorrect? i swear when i popped in the dvd i didn't recognize the footage cuz it was shot differently, like it was from another camera. plus i don't remember seeing A-Mei or Vivian Hsu in the audience on the vcd but it they were clearly shown in the dvd. i just expected the dvd to be better since it's better quality than vcd but turns out it wasn't.

btw, i have both a cd and dvd burner so if they happen to be different, i dun mind burning copies for fellow jay frens who are only able to buy one. as long as u purchased one to support Jay, i'm sure it won't kill him if we share versions but lets hope they're the same for our bank account's sake. =)

bostonbebe, i bought that too and that the DVD is not a complete version of Jay's the One Concert. I have bought the original DVD The One concert and I know that the one which comes with the Jay Musical Genius book is a pirated one.

Just to add on, I do realize that there are really different footage captured by the The ONE DVD and CD version (though the difference is not significant), as for me I will get both too

coldmetaljay,

may I know where u got your The One DVD? One of my friend was looking for it and couldn't find it in Singapore. I've went around and thought I never came across it at local music stores too. Do not wish to order at Yesasia cos still got exp shipping charges. I held out buying the VCD cos I wanted to see the extra footage in the DVD (anyway I borrowed to watch the VCD from a friend). Hope to get some advice here for those who has some tips! Thanks.

My The One DVD is different from the VCD too so I've been told, but only because like some of you, mines is bootleg. :/

Can anyone with both the legit DVD and VCD of The One tell us how same/different they are?

muzikanjel > Ayu's DVD won't play because it's region 2 (overseas ver.) or 3 (japan ver), and that's clearly stated on the YesAsia.com site, and also on the DVD case. If you have a DVD-ROM drive you can play in on your comp.
Jay's DVD is region free, meaning it will play on any DVD player. Hope that'll clear any doubt for you. (btw just about any DVD from the China/TW region is always region free, at least the ones you can buy off YesAsia). Just look under "region" on the DVD case in the future.

Did they even release a legit DVD for THE ONE? :? I would think they did but I never saw one in the stores in Singapore. The one that they sell in stores is a bootleg copy that originated from China. I know the quality is quite bad on that one, and I wonder how that got leaked out..... :shy: It's better than something filmed by a fan attending a concert and yet it's so raw and unedited that I don't think Alfa had anything to do with it.

Actually Yesasia explains all the DVD regions here (http://us.yesasia.com/help/index.asp?q=171&lang=en).

Yes I think there is one. I even saw the picture of the real DVD looks like, cos that time after Jay's concert in Singapore I bidded for the real thang in Yahoo Auctions. But because I was too busy at that time to follow the auction, some idiot outbidded me and took the item away!!! *sob* Unless the seller sells the bootleg one but puts up the real DVD picture on internet.

And I know the bootleg copy has Jay wearing in red for the cover. It's just so damn hard to find the real one around, I wonder if you people in other countries had been able to get his real The One DVD in your local stores?

Yeah I saw the legit DVD in Singapore stores but that was a while ago.
The cover looks something like that of the VCD but it was slightly longer than the VCD.

They also had a bootleg copy of the VCD. I think it was china produced, the sounds were bad. The cover was of Jay in a yellow and black striped tee if I didn't recall wrongly.

OHH righttt! i get it now! thankyou so much  I just found the region code on the case and its "region 3"..my DVD player can only play region 2 according to my dad=p
And also thankyou to dazzlette for your link to the info on region code!

Bootleg=pirated right...?? ive neva heard that term before. But if anyone who lives in sydney beware. There is a decent CD shop in Chinatown downstairs to a bookstore and they sell pirated CDs...or fake or wateva u call them. When i first went inside i knew there was somehting wrong because all the covers of the CD have weird colours and looked like being photocopied, plus the image on the actual CD looks wrong. My mum didnt believe me untill she bought a CD and listened to it and it had really bad sound quality.

Hi joty,
I bought mine from Singapore HMV, you can ask your friend to try his/her luck there. Its been quite some time since I touched the One DVD and I have forgotten where did I buy it from but luckily the HMV price tag is still there and it costs me $46.

Yap the legit DVD does contain the One concert's behind the scenes footage. As for the difference between VCD and DVD, i couldnt really remember that much, I just remember that one of them captured Vivian Hsu's as one of the audience while the other one did not show this part. Anyway, I will look through the DVD and VCD again to give you all a more detailed description.

Thanks coldmetaljay,

today I was shopping at Giant Parkway, there's a video store inside. As I walked past, I thought I go in and check if they were selling Incomparable Concert VCD & DVD cos I wanted to know how much the prices are like. Instead I went in and looked into the concert DVD section and guess what I found! Jay Chou's THE ONE DVD, legit one(one and only left)! And it cost me $35.90. Luckily I do not have to go down to HMV and buy it at $46. I wanted to play it on the moment I touched home but Mum's in the midst of recording a show so I couldn't play the DVD yet. I'm now playing Incomparable VCD on my PC. I was surprised Jay got his dear good old friend Hei Long on stage to sing the Ti Tian chorus part, I didn't see wrongly right????

Bought the cd version cause it is been release 1st. haha.

And I gonna say, the cd version simply rawks! Cause of the 11 MVs in 7 Li xiang. It's so nice!

As for the vcd version,

bought it cause there's a free poster. (In singapore)

Wanted to buy the Dvd version initially as there's the backstage stuffs.

Well, shall get it soon! =)

in my opinion i just want to get the dvd. i always thought the dvd versions were way better than anything else. so, im just sticking to dvd for now and plus i would rather have backstage stuff than pictures because there just pictures and someone would probably upload it and share it with us. if i have any money left i will probably buy the vcd, but i dont think i will.
ps. i went to life place today [if you guys live in rowland heigts you should know..its in diamond plaza] and i asked the lady if they were selling it and she said all the dvd's were sold out and only the vcd's were left. wow..his dvd's are selling like crazy.] and i really wanted to get it today, but it just goes to show you ..thats how people are crazy for him.so i guess more people like dvd's than vcd's. so im going their again tomorrow.
