"Eee... Darling, Where's your Di Lam?"
"Na, that's the Di Lam lor!"
"This you call your Di Lam?"
"Then how?"
"Got to go to XXX Mattress to buy Di Lam"
(Di Lam being the local slang for mattress)
.................................................. ...
"What? Buy mattress free handphone?
Darling, you hear, buy mattress free hand phone!"
-------------------------------------------
:glug: :glug: :glug: :glug: :glug: :glug:

Does this sound familiar? No, you did not hear it wrong, this was indeed taken off a locally produced advertisement, singlish, bad english, complete with a lousy 'slang'. :rasp:

In the place where we are suppose to promote good english, we actually have this kind of ads, which really boggles the mind. And this is not the only ad that is appearing on the local TV channel, and even on cable TV :bigyuck:

Are the standards of the local advertisements dropping? Or am I the only who is making a big fuss over this? :worry: Any more lousy ads you people can think of? :shifty:

hmm macdawn.. how come i don't see it on TV? hahha.. but reading it is funny enough.. and its really kinda lame to use 'Singlish' for commercials.. and speaking of commercials, i just saw one on TV- its Jay's Imcomparable Concert CD.. hahaha.. but i sure hope we wont see that kind of lame commercials on TV..

I think that Di Lam advert is that MegaMattress trying to make singaporeans feel at home and close to heart gone wrong. haha, but really, it seems like just a cheap advert that, exactly, makes me cringe.

And another advert that's cringe-worthy is the poka carrot one! The one with the young guy handing over his poka drink to the girl next door? Well, it's supposed to tell audiences that you get good eyesight if you drink their drink, but haha the irony is that although they try to incorporate the family thing when the guy joins his family for a photo, but he's the only one without glasses!

Okay, if he's the youngest in the family, but nope, he's got a younger brother and that goes to show that he's so selfish he doesn't share his poka with his younger brother. haha, just an observation!

The Mega Mattress CM is really totally lame. I agree about the poor quality of the ad. They even came up with another ad, the wedding night version! :rasp:

Pokka ad? I've never seen that though. :?

Anyone noticed the aged, yellowish, years ago Jin Fei Ren Rice ad on the 9pm - 10pm slot these days? The one where the guy happily finished his work and rushed back home. It's not lousy and yes, it's memorable. But could they kindly do up another ad after all these years? Even a simple eating rice procedure will do.

Well, I don't even know that there is this 'Di Lam' advertisement. Guess I need to do some 'advertisement watching' these few days. But from reading dawnie's post, it did make me cringe. :bigyuck:

I don't really like the SK2 advert too. The one with Sammi Cheng or Sandy Lam. I can't stand their 'pong pong pong' sound effect. That certainly did not help to persuade me that the product is good.

The only such ad i can think of now is the Jin Tong brand mushroom when the guy tried to put some pepper on the mushrooms on a plate and the mushrooms rolled to one side, and then he tried to put some salt and the mushrooms rolled again. Next, he picked a mushroom up with chopsticks and ate it, and the slogan goes (well, is that even a slogan?), "Why so good?". I am not really convinced. :D

I want to especially highlight the Senzation Double Detox, a health product. All their customers in the advertisement say that this product had improved their health but when I look at their expressions (which is quite bland), I suspect if what they are saying are really true or not. :hmm: It seems irony when they have this expression and they are saying that this health product is good at the same time. It dosen't seem appealing to me. At least the consumers of another health product, Intenz, have some expressions when they recommend Intenz. That is more real to me.....

haha!!~ yea macdawn!! I can't stand that ad too~ It's so embarrassing but stupidly funny...

I can still remember another ad on channel 8 last time...the stupid SunPage IDD ad that goes :

"which IDD?" :excited:
"which IDD?" :-x
"which IDD?" :-)
"which IDD?" :?
"Sun Page IDD lah! Hand~some..." (the other guy hitting his head with that squeekish toy hammer 2 times when saying "HANDSOME")

---------------------------------------------------------

and for goodness sake... the both guys faces were painted and wore wigs like erm.. clowns?.. or whatever they were trying to be..... but I must say that I actually found that ad stupidly funny....

that ad was really super low-budget.....and it's really a wonder how the company actually approved of such ads for themselves.... :shifty:

and yea... I really realised that the standard of local advertisments dropped....but I can't really recall when it started dropping....I can still remember the good and creative Mcdonald's ads...SingTel vs M1 ads.....those were really memorable advertisements which we would see everyday then...(and they were memorable in a good way).. I still remember The Viewers' Choice Awards (awards presentation of the best commercials in Singapore back then)....where those ads were vying for an award.....but...now?...I don't think I've heard from it for a long long time.....

macdawn
01-21-2005, 08:31 PM
Oh yes.. that IDD ad....

Another one that started me feeling about the deterioration of the local adverstisement, even before the mattress ad... was the Rainbow

F: Wow, you have such nice fish tank, where did you get it?
M: Rainbow.
F: Where?
M: Rainbow.....

And another one, which is not really bad ad, but I had seen this ad when I was a kid, a long time back.... the Tiong Bahru Spectacle shop, where it was just showing still pics, and not ad clip. That ad is so old, I think I saw it when our phone number only had 7 digits, and the postal code had 4 digits. And they are still showing it....

Hahaha, I agree about the Rainbow ad. Man...they kept repeating Rainbow, Rainbow, Rainbow...and when the girl asked, "Then where is Rainbow?"...

the stupid guy replied, "Huh? You don't even know where?...Zen Zao Gao (That's bad!)"...

and still...he didn't tell where Rainbow was. :S

Ugh, I hate that stupid mattress ad too! And I hate that irritating ice-cream ad with these two un-cute kids fighting over some stupid ice-cream! And the Starhub cable/digital whatever one too with the fat kid and the other kid with spectacles! Very annoying!

I don't remember seeing the Rainbow one though. Then again, I don't watch much TV, so... :-)

I had just watched the Gatsby advertisement....

I still remembered they had another ad that went:

*people with Tomahawk hairstyle all posed around*
*in slow drawl*
If you're happy and you know it clap your hair
*the hair splits in centre to clap*
If you're happy and you know it clap your hair
*hair clap*

I like the clap-your-hair Gatsby ad! I thought it was really cute. :-)

There's this ad that always plays in the West Mall Eng Wah cinema for a shampoo whose name I've forgotten. It features this woman and a clock and the hands of the clock are turning backwards and stuff. It's super irritating because the woman can't act and she's not even that pretty, and I'm forced to watch it whenever I watch a movie at West Mall. Truly annoying.

"Dong Dong Dong...1 2 3...We....are....Kui-Shin-Bo..."
"Dong Dong Dong...1 2 3...Food Fresh Good Taste Japanese Food..."
"Dong Dong Dong...1 2 3...Suntec Tower Level 3..."
"Dong Dong Dong...1 2 3...We....are...KUI-SHIN-BO!!"

 haha....I've no idea who the heck came out with that....but... hey.. heard that the food at this restaurant is really not bad~~ but I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from "rapping" that thing to myself when I go near that restaurant....

Hehe since it always plays when you watch a movie at West Mall, perhaps you won't see it if you catch a movie somewhere else next time. That aside, I'm sure you're referring to Michelle Chia (Xie Yun Yi) and her Lux (erm, right? :glug:) shampoo commercial.

 haha....I've no idea who the heck came out with that....but... hey.. heard that the food at this restaurant is really not bad~~ but I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from "rapping" that thing to myself when I go near that restaurant....
The food spread is pretty impressive indeed, but good food comes at a hefty price of course. They've revamped their menu a little, focusing on even more premium seafood (think lobster, crab, crayfish, ama ebi, etc.), and as a result, prices have gone up somewhat. I was disappointed when they didn't have their ramen with spicy miso base anymore though.

Anyway, is it just me who feels that ads/advertisements are those found on print media such as newspapers, magazines, etc., whereas commercials are those with audio or/and audio-visual elements in them? I was too used to Gurmit Singh saying "we'll find out, after the commercial break". :D

Lest we veer off-topic in this thread (please do keep in mind that we're talking about advertisements/commercials here), there already exists a thread where we can voice our grievances over the axing of variety shows from Channel U.

The worse ad i've ever seen is the Mega Mattress one...i mean, the phone rings, the woman ( or izzit the man?? ) picks it up and goes "wake up!! blablabla"
gahh...they can do better,or get better actors??

j0ty
02-02-2005, 05:03 PM
Yeah, I agree the Mega Mattress is really lousy. The next ad that is on par with it should be the Rainbow one. Right now, these are the 2 that I can remember, though I know there are also rice, sauce, juice commercials etc, but not as bad as those 2.

Sometimes they just make the actors/actress recite their company name or product name that really irritate the hell out of us, am I right? And they thought they could drill those names into our heads!?

Lai Cheng Hung
02-06-2005, 02:04 PM
I don't think such advertisement are that bad actually...

they have their own reason using singlish or "lame" english...
On my personal view, i think they just wanted to entertain the watcher... or maybe to let their advertisement personalised as in our very very own Sinapore advertisement...

But, there is a bad influence also...
what will foreigner think when they saw these advertisment? they might think that our language level is very low, whish will greatly affect our global reputation...

Anyway, I think it is okay to screen these advertisement since it is our own thing, which shows the creativity of our Singaporeans...

Reading this thread cracked me up ! :D

I mega hate (pardon the pun) the Mega Mattress one. As well as that Lux ad where Michelle Chia stands around looking majorly constipated with her hair that looks as if they got scooped out from the shower drainage.

How come no one mentioned that stupid ad for some Japanese restaurant ? It's at Paradiz Centre and no, I can't remember the name. She brings a group of girlfriends (who all look REALLY BAD) and tells them "lai lai lai, jiu shi zhe li!" in a totally ah-lian accent. They then proceed to bicker over what to order and the chef/waiter shakes his head in exasperation. GOD I HATE THAT AD :ranting:

But you guys realise something ? These advertisers have made their money's worth with those bad ads because we're here talking about it ! In the advertising world, the rule of thumb is to either make a damn good ad or make a super bad one that makes everyone remember them.

And btw, I'm quite sure the "actors" in the mega mattress and the Jap restaurant ad are employees of the company. In fact, my friend who used to work for Singtel was in one of their ads because they were too stingy to pay for professional models.

Now you know

I don't believe no one mentioned this yet. I totally detest that Shop 'n Save ad. Yes... that Xiang Yun one! :bigyuck:

"Sheng Sheng Sheng... mother zui bang"

Lack of content aside, there is lack of creativity in the way they promote the store. And the whole repetition of "Sheng Sheng Sheng" is irritating. I don't mean to be judgemental/shallow, but that lady is really ugly, and the way she says "Sheng Sheng Sheng" while staring into the camera with the xxx product in her hand is a total turn off. It's causing me nightmares already.

Has anyone mentioned the bust enhancing ad? I think it's been around for a long time. The one that shows the mother hugging her 2 kids with a super low cut blouse? It doesn't quite make sense to me, well......why would anyone need their services after giving birth, when by nature, a woman's breasts would tend to increase in cup size after child birth?!?!

Most of the time, these stupid ads do make an impression. But what I remember are the scenes, not the company name. So too bad to these advertisers, you are so lame I wouldn't even bother who you are and what you are!

The Carlsberg one is still okay, at least I am not cringing at the sound of it. But I am indeed cringing to the sound of that Tao restaurant advertisement. One advertisement that I had the luck to keep missing, was the HO-ly Crap one... Lucky me.... :rasp:

I am also fed up with those slimming ads, with those fake people saying, "I used to be like this, and now I am this!" Frankly, I don't find those 'after' pics not much of difference to the 'before' pics...

Did you people still rememberour local movie, I Not Stupid???? There is this Caucasian, or what we Singaporeans call Ang Mo, who work for an advertising company. Then you know what??? He made an advertisement for the Ba Gua company and it really make me puke!!!! Of course it's not in real life. But that really makes me sick as that Ang Mo invited two girls to dance around and say Ba Gua!!!!! :rasp: YUCKS!!!! And that Ang Mo packaged the Ba Gua products into black packages. If that ever happens in real life, I'll definately be so sick that I want to faint...... :dead:

Speaking of I Not Stupid, that reminds me of another Jack Neo movie The Best Bet (and the Worst Ad).

I hated it so much when the MRT stations all conspired to play at full volume the theme song - "Bai Lui Li Bai Hui Bu Hui Kai?" That was the only ad they played for at least a week I think. I heard (may not be true though) they stopped running it earlier than planned coz' SMRT received too many complains on how irritating it was. It was so jarring to hear that blaring ad in the morning especially for zombies like me who are forced to drag ourselves to work.

Well said. But what really cracks me up is how I cringe when the camera pans to her face and she's erm, less than pleasant looking. I can't help but think they should have a line that says "Yes ! Grow your bust but I'm sorry, you can't do much to impress if you have a less-than-pretty face". I mean, it's like insinuating that yes, she's got big boobs thanks to xxx product but too bad, she has to live with her face.

I have nothing against ugly people, btw. I just find that ad so bad, it's puke-inducing. And you're right. We don't remember the actual product names, just the really bad ad.

Good point!!!! I also do notice that SMRT Media in MRT stations always repeat the same few ads every few minutes, maybe not even a minute. It's really irritating!!!! I mean, people will get sick after seeing the same ad almost ten times before the train arrives!!! Worse still if those ads make us cringe!!!! The noise also makes me frustrated, especially when there are very few people at the MRT stations. Can't we just rest in peace while we wait for the train!!!! I hate SMRT ads! I thought that signboard thing was supposed to let passengers know in how many minutes their train will arrive, but whenever I look at it to check the time (I'm a very impatient person and I hate waiting for trains and buses), all I see is some STUPID, IRRELEVANT AND IRRITATING AD! Like, AHHHH!!! Talk about crap passenger service! And hell, the relevant info is always soooooo tiny! Who the hell can see how many minutes the train is arriving in at the extreme end of the station?!

Thank goodness for me, I never did come across the ad for that Jack Neo movie. Ha!

Talking about SMRT, I just travelled on the MRT yesterday and I really hate the ads that are pasted on the train windows!!! I mean, I can't enjoy the sceneries outside the MRT as well as on buses!!! Yesterday, I took the MRT and on the windows, the ad made it look like those people on the train are in prison, with the "bars" pasted on them!!! Actually that was an advertisement on drugs and I believe that the ad is conveying the message that tells us that taking drugs will land us in prison. Well, that's quite true but I found it quite stupid!!! And with the "bars" pasted on the MRT windows, it is really irritating!!!

Sly!!! YUCKS!!! I really hate his smile. I mean, his teeth is very ugly when he smiles!!! I have not really seen the ad but I went to 7-11 recently and there are posters with Sly's face on it and his big mouth was smiling!!! Gosh, that really makes me sick!!! :ill: I think I won't dare to go to 7-11 for this period of time until they can remove the posters...

I'm surprised they did not try to put some computer animated "SPARKLES SPARKLES" beside his teeth to make it more memorable!! Wahahahahhahaha....!!!

They did... I am pretty sure the ads I saw had that silly 'bling' added to his teeth.... lousy english, coupled with that fake smile.... the perfect ah beng advertisement :bigyuck:

I don't really like the Sly advert as well. I thought the advertisers should have chosen someone who at least have a nice smile. Sorry Sly fans, but I do think that his smile / grin is rather weird.

What about the recent M1 ad? The one with lots of people doing those 'chicken' actions? I don't really get what the ad is trying to show us in the first place. I think I was too busy laughing.

Although I don't have anything against the Heineken ads in general, there is one question that keeps popping into my mind when I see their ads.

What the heck do they mean by 'PROBABLY the best beer in the world'? :glug:
They are not sure if they are the best?

If I don't remember wrongly from a class I took, no company can proclaim themselves to be the best. Because it would be a matter of opinion, and not factual so they can't do that. That's why they have to use a modifier.

macdawn
03-06-2005, 04:49 PM
Well, most commercial are claiming to be one of the best, and I remember some ads in Singapore had claimed that according to the surveys by AC Nielson (or something) they are they best in Singapore.... I believe that was the Y** N** Haircare centre's claim.....

I'm thinking that they probably have to say exactly what they are best about and be able to back it up by facts. Maybe the fastest growing hair, the most powerful engine, the cheapest flights, etc. They can't say they are the best and that's it. As in, they have to say in which area. So Carlsberg cn't say they are the best beer coz' best in what? Getting us drunk faster? Making us go to the loo more often?

Guess you can tell Carlsberg is not my choice of poison. :D

As I was walking though the underground linkway between Wisma Atria/Takashimaya... I was traumatised by the ads found on the side. Not only were majority of them about firming busts, reducing waistlines... they are done up in the most horrendous manner. Imagine a lady with a tape measure around the bust "saying" something to the extent of "wow, so big".

Gimme a break already

All those bust enhancement advertisements on TV and newspapers..... someone should tell those people who are signing up for these packages, that Size really doesn't matter..... and guess what, with small boobs, you won't have to worry about the effects of gravity as you age

And all those ads, that sayd, no pills, no crash diet..... then you see on the fine print "With a suitable dietary plan". Yeah what kind of "dietary plan", chocolate chip and fudge? It is the fine print where all the information is...

Yup, there are often too many fallacies in ads. Some use "mob mentality", some make impossible offers, some make leaps to conclusion that just don't make sense....and so on. Like the deodorant CM where the products are recycled and it turns girls on to be around the recycled product.

Now then i realised, how come no one talks about the DHL(or Fedex? can't remember!) ad? That is not a new one.

It shows a "flying parcel" inside the office and everyone is "trying very hard" to catch it. The exaggerated part is there was this very action-pack man who did a spilt to avoid being hit. Next when the parcel flew out of the window, a DHL (or Fedex) delivery van happened to be driving past, and a deliveryman inside held out a net to catch the parcel.

Whew!! So much for a parcel!

my, some ads are really -_-" yeah? ads in countries like USA are really good. there's this advertisement that's really good.

for example: this guy (man 1)is munching on a chocolate and sees another man (man 2) who is panting and having his palms on his car, perharps to catch his breath or something. man 1 mistook man 2's action as an attempt to push his car down and man 1 pushes the car down the cliff.

01-20-2006, 04:29 AM
agreed with you guys..the igallop ad is really :bigyuck:
it's like some xxx toy.. sorry if i am offensive..

did you guys watch that advertisment where one guy keep pressing the traffic light button just to cross the road to buy 'bak kua'? and he ended up eating the bak kua with two injured fingers?? :tomato:

oh well..though new year is coming..that's not the way to spoil the traffic light

liwei_jay
01-20-2006, 04:41 AM
yah..
i find that stupid too..
at first.. when i see the ad..
i was thinking why was he in a hurry to cross..
then after tat shows the bak kua only i knw that he's trying to get to the bak kua shop.. so stupid...

stitchphil
01-20-2006, 03:15 PM
To say the truth, I find that ad on the new osim product rather offensive... It's like they are opening trying to promote a *censored* toy, its gross!!

I mean, how do one actually have any form of exercise done on that stupid piece of machine? Yucks.

ler83
01-20-2006, 08:03 PM
well it does. It's suppose to firm up ur ass and supposedly burns fats in ur waist area through the 'cowboy' motion. erm..but i have my reservations of cos...considering the suggestiveness of it.

the girls look to be so enjoying the 'ride' in the advert. damn...:rasp:

stitchphil
01-21-2006, 09:23 AM
Haha... It still intrigues me why would anyone want to exercise that part of their body. Still, that is no reason for osim to make that rather offensive ad though.

I've just caught the bak kua ad today as well... It was like.. erm... as well... It was funny when you watch it the first time, but as it keeps playing and playing over and over during every commercial break.. its, stupid to say the least.. :bleh:

I just really could not stand the iGallop advert.

What it makes it worst is the expression of the models who are using it. It totally puts me off.

YES!!! I so agree, Starylosophy, the expressions on those models is like they are... well, I better not say in here to keep my post as PG. But what make me sick is the fact that they have no shame whatsoever to be in such an ad. Yucks.

jo_jayfan
01-22-2006, 09:23 AM
hahas. those "models" can only attract old uncles, seriously. hahas. i don't even think guys 20-30 will find them attractive! stichpil is one very good example! :D at first i even thought one of them is XIA XUE! hahas, cause i saw a picture of her in cowboy suit before!

stitchphil
01-22-2006, 02:32 PM
Haha jo_jayfan, the models actually disgusts me rather than turn me on... Yucks, that ad can make you lose your appitite for dinner. Haha.. XIA XUE some more, she happens to be 21 too. Haha, I think people like her would rather die then to star in such ads. Or any other girls who have dignity for that matter.

liwei_jay
01-23-2006, 02:13 AM
haha..
in a nutshell....
we all agree that igallop looks useless..
and exercises in a suggestive way.. i'm still put off and sick of tat ad..
-end of discussion-

Have you all wonder...
does it matter to the ppl(the one who make these ad).. whether it's bad or not..
i think to them is.. as long as it's being remembered... that's all it matters..
if you remember there used to be a survey or so..
the most popular adverts or sth like that...
a few of the high ranks ones are actually those stupids one..
which gives ppl the deeper impression..

stitchphil
01-23-2006, 04:24 AM
Hmm... that's some food for thought... Good point... But...

Why do they have to resort to such low tactless ideas to grab people's attention?

I wonder how the people in the ad feel? Perhaps, money talks...

jo_jayfan
01-23-2006, 10:11 AM
hahas. i guess they don't really care, like what liwei said, just want to leave an impression.

but i certainly like fedax's advertisments. pardon me, i can't remember the correct spelling. fedax is one of the companies who have really creative and nice ads!

liwei_jay
01-23-2006, 10:53 AM
haha..
yyups..
i rather watch those courier services ads..
they r much more aspiring and creative too..
at least make sense.. >.<

ZY..
the reason they get those girls to do those act/ads is CUZ..
then it would attract perverted/dirty minded men/old mans to BUY it for their wife/gf/mistresses... etc...
just wat i thought... >.<

stitchphil
01-23-2006, 11:26 AM
LW... haha.. What a sick reason for them to act in it. Its not like they will receive any form of commission with every iGallop or whatever is it they call it, that is sold.

Haha.. I agree jo_jayfan, Fedex has some of the most interesting Ads around. And it packs a good laugh along with it too.

i saw another weird advert today! hhahas. it is on this japanese woman shouting "sensei! sensei!" which means teacher/senior. then the sensei helped her pull her hair and her face became really horrible!

LOL! i totally couldn't understand that advert.

I think it's some manual facelift operation to remove wrinkles and etc by pulling the hair. So that's why the modern lady said you don't have to go through so much pain to look prettier. :D

dunno abt u guys but i'm beginning to be irrate by the KFC advert starring edmund chen and his family. The part that specially makes me cringe is when their daughter (for the chinese version of the ad) asks "mami jing wan chi she me??" argh!!

HAHAHA! ME TOO! i'm kinda irritated by that advert too! hahaha and also during CYN got the advert about the "bak gwa" about a guy wanted to cross the road to buy it. but lot of cars den he keep hitting the button wanting the "green man" to appear faster. I think the advert should be at night den because the shop is closing so he's rushing to buy the "bak gwa". hahah!

jo_jayfan
02-06-2006, 11:02 AM
LOL! thanks cateyes, i realised that CM is starting to be more and more common! really gross.

i thought that "bak gwa" advert is quite interesting! as in creative! not so sure about the KFC one, is it the one where the whole family are playing with puzzles? LOL

stitchphil
02-06-2006, 11:57 AM
Haha... I found the "bak gwa" advert rahter interesting too, but it sort of gets tiring after too many runs just like any other advert.

And yes, the KFC advert is the one with the entire family playing puzzles, what has playing puzzles gotta do with KFC anyways?

And you know what really gets on my nerves? Its all those Army Adverts, because they're all so fake and over glorifying of what we really do in those days.

jo_jayfan
02-06-2006, 12:11 PM
seriously? i kinda think ARMY ADVERTS are cool! :D tanks, submarines and all! i never get bored looking at them ! :yeah: and they got really cool slogans!

stitchphil
02-06-2006, 12:28 PM
Hahaha!!! Then you have been decieved!! Ask anyone who has already served the Army and they'll all tell you the same. The Adverts make us look so DIAO, but the truth is, yes, though we do (or at least I do) sit on helicopters, assault boats and stuff in my NS and reservice days. But we're all cursing when we are doing it... Hahah... Things they don't show you on TV... :brows:

chapman
02-06-2006, 03:48 PM
Yup. Those army ads are so "bluff". Where got look so cool in military warfare? Haha.. I always snigger at those army, navy, air force ad. Even the police ads make me laugh.....

stitchphil
02-06-2006, 04:19 PM
Hahah.. you laugh at them! I puke at the very sight of them!! It's so fake can?! And I guess it's always an amusing sight to see an Advert of your own profession. Because they have a way of glorifying things to make them have the 'wow!' factor. But its actually something completely different.

chapman
02-06-2006, 04:34 PM
True, true... we always make fun of those slogans too.....

Police : An extra ordinary career... Extra Job, Ordinary Pay.

Haha.

stitchphil
02-06-2006, 04:41 PM
Hahahah... didn't know you guys in SPF make fun of your Ads too... We make fun of our posters too. In fact, we even have our own version for all of the 7 different posters they came up with.

There's one that said: SOLDIER, BROTHER, LEADER... and we added.... F*****

Then there's another one that said: Not for fame or fortune... (then for f***)

There are a lot more, but i can't really remember all of them, and cannot write about them too much here, a lot of young users who have yet to serve. Later the Government blame us then die.

chapman
02-06-2006, 05:30 PM
Yup.. there another one with the F word, but I do not want influence the young one... remember your army initial? SAF? Serve and F***

hehe. End of lambasting on govt ads. Next.....

jo_jayfan
02-08-2006, 11:44 AM
hahas. WERT. okays, ALL advertisments glorify their own products :/ hahas. part of government propoganda! :D that's what advertisments are for! just like lately, there is this advert which encourages people to give birth to more children.

hahas, i realised after discussing in this thread, i begin to look out for advertisments more often!

stitchphil
02-08-2006, 12:27 PM
Hahah... Me too... I didn't heard about the ''Bak Kua'' Ad until I heard it here because I seldom watch TV.

And I guess that's how the Adverts, especially those by the government is meant to do. Because they have a point to drive through, and they did so very successfully! But the end process... well... :shifty:

there's a pretty funny ad i saw some weeks or months back..it doesnt air regularly but it was rather amuzing for me.
if i'm not wrong it was launched by the SPCA about pet sterilization. in the advert it showed a cat bouncing a condom which was inflated into a 'ballon'..then it went "burst!"...the next scene showed many kittens surrounding the actual adult cat, followed by some text saying something like "your pets don't know how to use protection.." (something along that line).

freaking hilarious

i do remember the above mentioned. something which goes "hello this is nikki..." then she will ask u to call her or something. These AIDS ads were also seen on posters everywhere for a period of time with some scantily dressed model in suggestive poses. Somehow i feel the ad really contradicted itself.

stitchphil
02-09-2006, 03:10 PM
LW... Haha.. I've heard and read about that Ad before, the one with a Nikki. There's this number you can call to 'contact' her, but when you do, there'll be this message that tells you to practice safe sex. It was on the papers sometime ago.

ler83: I've seen those Ads before, not on TV, but on the bus stops posters where there have been rabbits, dogs and hamsters. It's rather attention grabbing I must say. :bleh:

Has anyone seen the SUNPAGE ad?

They showed many animated chicks saying Cheap! Cheap! Cheap! to emphasize it was CHEAP to make overseas using SUNPAGE. Since "chick" and "cheap" sounded alike.

But the fact is "chick" ends with "K" and "cheap" with "P". So they don't really sound alike.

*off topic*

I must mention this, the mentos ad was cool!
The guy was late for class so he sneaks in. The teacher has his back facing the class since he was writting on the board. The guy is walking backward to his seat so when the teacher turned, it would look like he was trying to escape from the lesson instead. How smart! Lol.

the silkygirl ad in btwn project superstar II. the full version where a lady stepped into this old photo studio then this old ahpek who was sleeping, suddenly sprang to life in his retro getup and takes photos madly. one ridiculous move: the ah pek turned round and round cuz he was so happy that a pretty lady finally stepped into his studio. poor ahpek...
