I believe that CCAs are compulsary in all schools and also that most of you people are in Secondary Schools or Junior Colleges. I really wonder what CCAs do you join and what you think about your CCAs.
For me, I am in scouts and I find it quite fun to be with my friends in scouts. I find it quite nice also to build structures like bridges and towers, except that we have to use ropes to tie tightly, which make my hand sore very easily...... :depresse: There are also some games organised for us in some weeks. However, what I don't really like is that we spend quite a long time in scouts, which eats up my own freetime often. :depresse: But generally, I find scouts quite fun!!!!! :D
What about you?????

I was in the Student Council while I was in my Secondary School. I hate it there. The people there are so biased.
Now in the JC I'm in the Photography club. :D

Yep, CCA is compulsary, of course in every Singapore secondary school. I joined choir in secondary one. And I think i've learned a lot of CCA points... It's quite bored in choir, but it's really tough too.. Our school choir instructor taught us to sing using our belly also known as diaphragm (Im not sure how to spell this word). He's very strict, and in 10 weeks time, our school is going to participate in Singapore Youth Festival Competition. However, sad to say, our singing has not met his standard for us... However, I actually don't need to sing in the choir, because I am the pianist!! hehez... On the other hand, Im also a sectional leader in choir.

I recognise Nelson Kwei's name!!! Is he a Taiwanese?
One of our school choir piece, Bai Fang Chun Tian,"Visiting the Spring" for Singapore Youth's Festival's competition is written by him!!
My choir conductor has attitude problem... And heard my senior from Ngee Ann Polytechnic say that he's been sacked by the school... (Thanks to his attitude) However, I admit, he's a good conductor, regardless his attitude... And his name is Francis Liew.
i'm at sajc... currently in guitar ensemble and table tennis... thier table tennis aint the best.. and i think i can beat most of the j1s there... hehe... so sometimes training is a bit boring..

haha i was a bander for 6 years too. was in the scgs band and then joined band again at rjc. played the alto sax. hated long hours of practise but i really enjoyed performing at the esplanade. performed there twice. one was rj's annual concert "a tempo XIII" and one was the syf central judging finals. the waiting/resting rooms were real plush!

My CCA is Choir!!! Well, this will be my last year to be in Choir in my school, YTSS, so I will be putting my best effort for the SYF competition that will be held in April this year.
Being in Choir has really helped to build my character. In fact, I used to be rather shy and would always feel inferior to others, but being in Choir for over 3 years has made me more daring and strong in me beliefs. :-)

I'm from Woodlands Ring Sec, CCA: Badminton. I used to be a school team player when I was in Sec 2, but got 'kicked out' in Sec 3 (well, I don't know why, maybe my skills ain't up to standard). Now in Sec 4, not in the school team again, becuase of poor attendance :P . *Sigh*, the captains didn't bother to tell me the training schedule, and I won't be bothered too to find out. Haha, why should I go to training sessions to see their sulky faces? :P

I'm in the computer club! Just once a week, 2 hrs each time.
Very very relaxed.. we get to enjoy the aircon and use the net somemore, besides learning programs like Flash. What I don't like is that we need to participate in competitions cos most of the time, I don't really understand the programs taught.
What can I say, I'm such a lazy bum.
So..comp club is great for slackers like me!

Hmmm... Currently my CCA is SWAPS (some club in school... which basically dun do much except having fun...)
But during my Secondary and JC years, i was in Air Rifle/Weapons club...
But i was a pistol shooter... haha... Training is tough and boring coz you are constantly training to perfect the same action; alone... but the satisfication of hitting a perfect 10 (bull's eye) is awesome... However, my friends and team mates used to make things better...
Currently out of the sport due to various strains... probably wun be going back to the sport, though i really missed it...
One advantage: You can impress people in arcades or funfair by shooting all the trainings... haha...

NCC also have girls? I dont know about that! My school dont have. It must be tough for a girl to join NCC, as i've seen my school NCC boys who need to train very hard. They need discipline and that's what i dont like. I think it's too strict.

CCA is also compulsary in my school! We're supposed to join three. I joined St Johns, IT and Photography, and Basketball!
St Johns rule!!! At first when I joined I thought it'd be all the boring stuff, but once we started our First Aid Lessons and saw the St. Johns 'nurses' at work...I thought it was seriously cool! St. Johns meetings are always fun and the ppl there are real nice too! We have meetings almost every Saturday and sometimes those who passed their First Aid Exams would get to go to Batu Caves during Thaipusam to duty there in case anyone gets hurt!
For IT and Photography club, I only have meetings once a month due to the BIG group so they split us up into 4 groups. So we have it once a month. I'v only had one meeting so far and that was boring because we only cleaned the computer lab that meeting.
And for Basketball, I didn't attend any of the meetings because it clashed with some of my classes! I was upset at first but I realised I couldn't join any other because those days are full tooo! :worry:

In my Primary school, I'm from the Brownies. :shy: I joined it because I expected camps, , but unfortunely no camps for me. Instead I've got stupid games ang singing. You can cry when you're in the group of Brownies in my Primary school. wah...so far my cca hasnt been mentioned yet...
I'm from River Valley High..and my cca is dance! ok i'm only in sec 1 and dun have any dance background at all, so the training's very very painful because my seniors who train us always push us (they always say we're not pushing and trying hard enough)...but so far through about two months of training...i've only managed to do a split with my right leg in the front...lol...better than nothing i guess...

I plan to join Debate, not drama cos' even though my acting is good (I lie very well), but there are some others who are much, much better than me, and since I'm good at arguing so I plan to join debate...
Btw, ELDDS in my school stands for English Literary Debate and Drama Society...
My school has Photography, Debate, Drama, and Literary Writing...
We have won several awards in Drama and Debate and we finished 2nd last year in the SYF competitions...
Lol... Sounds like I'm advertising for my school

My CCA in school is computer club, I think its really fun as we get to learn many useful computer skills that we can use in the future and right now I am learning how to create my own game in school, that sounds really cool right? But of course I can't use it to make profits, its all just for personal use.

Ok. i don't mean to be offensive. but it seems that some of u here are in choirs under the direction of nelson kwei.
actually. nelson seems a really nice guy. i heard from a friend of mine that he likes snoopy. well. thats the nice side of him. but quite a few people are not really happy with him. lemme tell u why.
when the Catholic High School (secondary), was looking for a choir conductor, they first approached nelson. nelson heard them sing once, and turned down the job. Why? because he said that the choir was out of tune. many of my friends think that if nelson was really so capable, he would not have to turn down catholic high. they say that nelson is not good enough to correct the wrong pitches of the choir. look at the victoria school choir. most of the members can play a musical instrument. they themselves will know whether their own singing is out of tune. So what does it mean? it means that nelson is getting a fat pay for doing nothing. i saw 3 days of the competition this year at the singapore conference hall, and i noticed 1 thing in common. all the schools which got gold or gold with honours sang a capella pieces. those which did not, but were in tune, got silver. those average ones got bronze, and the really horrible ones got certificate of participation. what does this show? it shows that pitching was actually quite high on the judging criteria. and if a choir can sing a capella, it means that they are in tune. that was what exactly Victoria School did. musicians singing in a choir. of course they will do well. Any decent conductor will get a gold with honours if they are conducting the school.
it merely proves that nelson's achievements are not really impressive. what is impressive are the no-name conductors who can manage to secure gold or silver with their neighbourhood school choirs, where almost none of the members have any music background. note that i use the words ALMOST NONE. or the conductors who manage to bring up a choir which has been getting certificates of participation to perhaps a bronze. these are the really great ones to admire.
from what i know about the catholic high incident, me and my friends ALL agree that nelson will never be able to achieve such a feat. personally, i'm amazed at how people can look at his achievements in awe just because his school choirs are good. don't forget one thing. VS already has good singers. they don't need nelson. with his calibre, someone who cannot even correct out-of-tune singing, i'm sure other conductors will be able to bring up the choir to EVEN higher standards.
look at other conductors. jennifer yham. She conducts Tampines (or is it Temasek) JC, Crescent Girls Sec, Methodist Girls' School, RVHS and i dunno what other schools. other than MGS, RVHS, and TJC (TPJC), crescent is effectively a neighbourhood school. but she managed to get a silver (or is it gold) with it.
Don't forget one thing. jennifer tham conducts the nanyang academy of fine arts choir also. i've attended a few of their performance at the school. and they are simply wonderful. think of it. nelson is a more talked-about conductor than jennifer tham. but even the academy didn't bother to hire him. they chose a choir conductor who cannot secure constant gold with honour medals for her schools. what does this show?
Yes yes. i can sense the criticism already. some of you will say that nelson might not have had the time to conduct the academy choir. but. he's so proud. proud of sitting and shaking his leg and letting the students do their own singing while he just stands there and waves his hands about. why wouldn't he want to take the opportunity to conduct such a wonderful choir? timings can be changed. don't forget.
i'm not trying to change your opinions here. just stating my two cents worth.

I wish I am more sporty. The schools I went to didn't quite have sports club. They have "clubs" for only a few selected sports, and those are not of my interest. Most of the sports, there's school teams only. They didn't want someone like me who cannot coordinate my hands and feet

cool, i love to play basketball. When i was in secondary school, i felt that bball is abit too "boyish". But, now, i really love to play bball in my current school. made alot of friends. BUT, it is like playing with guys and sometimes they will play rough. So, i normally, play with my girl-friends, or even my closest boy-friends who really will "take care" of the girls. Normally, guys feel that "girls playing in their group is a burden for them". But, luckily, some of my boy-friends, they will really pass the bball to us for shooting.
Currently i am in a group-some sort like "music band". Haha, i also dont know why i take up this cca since i dont have music background. But i think was because i want to learn music, thats why i join the cca-Anklung Kulintang Ensemble(if some of u know what is this)

(have to say we got a gold in syf 03!!) so we didnt know the seniors, neither do the seniors know us. and sec 2, we had concert. so many practices that i was very very bored, i started to skip them. (i still planned to skip those extremely tedious ones, those 8am-5pm!) it was during sec3 that i discovered my passion for my cca. no not guitar playing, my cca lol. well because this time round we were included in SYF and so we had many practices (much more than the concert!) and through this whole experience we had breakdowns, sharing sessions, much tears and joy.. we had great seniors who led us and never gave up on us, who brought us much entertainment too lol. and we have a great instructor (MR FRANKIE SHI) who had much patience with as and didnt mind sacrificing extra time to practise with us.. and the teacher in charge was actually quite ok when you get to know her lol. and our hard work finally paid off when we got another GOLD for syf 05! woooo i was sooo proud of guitar! yeah then there was this year when we were sec4s, now the seniors in guitar. had our first ever camp since what, 20 years ago? allowed us to know the sec1s too. (the tradition is usually the sec4s wont know the sec1s since we have diff practices and there is only one year to know each other) then we had our school's 50th anniversary concert and it was the last performance i had. and then we had handover. and farewell. sad but all good things have to come to an end! ahguitar definately played a huge part in this 4 years!
lol i talk too much.. but i love ahguitar so! =D

haha. im oso a computer club member in sec1.
yay comp club members unite! :excited: i was in comp club too in sec sch.. but it is actually slackers' club in disguise.
we do learn how to use a few programs like dreamweaver, flash and photoshop.. but nothing much got into my head. cause lack of practice as i do not have the programs at home.. but otherwise, it's really nice! with aircon and all and only once a week! :D
YAY! I am in a comp club too lol.
I love it cos firstly, it's indoors and it has aircon. Secondly, you can do everything you want! Make banners, do flash stuff.. I am interested in this kinda stuff so I never really find it a chore to go to cca.
It's definitely the slackiest club in my school. Like man, I surf JCnet when I am having cca.

I'm in Girl Guides and the school council.!!! Hahas. Anyone from guides?
From my CCA, let's see, I've been pushed to my limits. I learn to brain storm. Run an event and so on. My cca, mainly Guides actually, has been the thing that pushed me forward. But, it's not easy being a leader. =)
