I mean, i love jay's songs... but its like ...when he's performing live ..its like ...he sounds better..and the songs takes a whole new light ... yknow what i mean?! ... Like in the pepsi blue charity concert .... his songs were really cool ...didnt take after the mp3 versions ....
BUT THE CROWD WAS ALL FOR HIM!
I think he brought the whole building down ...hes the greatest artist there!

yes...i think he sings great live too..not many artists can do that, singing live is hard, but it's the best proof to the singer's singing ability and talent, which, our Jay has definitely proved to us.

Jay... haha. Me and my mom both agree he really does sound better live. It's a hard thing for artists to do. His improv skills are too good, and I love the background music he uses. He tweaks songs ever so slightly, but it makes a huge difference.
His voice is lovely.

Yes Jay did the best performance besides Sammi.....especially when he's live he always give people a new fresh feeling of his song....Like in "Dad I have come back" he did put so much emotions into singing it at the end that my friend thought it was something real that happen to him, but of course I did explain to my friend that it was just a song he wrote using his friend's experience.
I tell you guys after watching the whole pepsi concert over yesterday I still think Jay was the best, the others they just didn't create enough atmosphere or highlight to the concert.
One thing Jay have improve a lot from his live performance because earlier performances by Jay wasn't as good as now. See how Jay is so concern about his live performances just made him better.
ya i absolutely agree that he's sounds so much better LIVE.
maybe cos he sounds different from the cds, where his singing would be the same. during live performances he would add in something different n injects so much pride too.. =)

He's one of the few artists that sounds so amazing live. Especially in his song "You Are Happier Than Before" ("Ni Bi Cong Qian Kuai Le" <-- ignore the wrong pinyin).. wow he had amazing vocals there.

I totally agree! I love that song especially when he goes Woahhhh and drags it long! Amazing!
I also totally love the fact that he likes to constantly make changes to his songs. Makes his live performances different from his CD.

during live performances.. he will always try to change the rhythm and melody of the songs..maybe tats why it is always so refreshing to listen to him during live performances.. although in some cases..his live performances dun have the power..but during the concerts, he show us he got the power to sing loud and on key.. tats shuang..

Yeah, I agree with most of you. He does sound a lot better performing live. The improvisation and the way he alters the rhythm or melody (as tallgeese said) makes it sound different, especially if you listen to his music a lot. I change from his albums to the One CD quite a lot so itll never sound boring..not that it will..hehe...
He also sounds a lot stronger and his singing is a lot clearer when he performs live. Its normally the other way round for artists..shows hes actually got talent....

He sounds good whenever wherever. Live especially
Shows how totally great he is, especially on stage, notice how he doesn't breathe too hard, like most ppl when they're jumping and dancing.
i like that. ( my friends think its cuz he's lip singing...not true)

Yep, in that pepsi concert thing, Sammi sang this slow song ..which was great too ...she can sing very well too ... But she was just singing to the tune ..i don't think any emotions were present at the moment she was singing ...
But the amazingly cool irreplacable Jay sang like he really felt what he was singing ..yknow like ..he's trying to relay a message to his audience ...
-_- ... whatever im a freak...

I have this .mp3 of him live and he sounds so good. It is really hard for people to sing very well live, but he did it really well. I'm so amazed lol.

He's the one who can perform in LIVE concert extremely GREAT !!
Its like a whole new song when he's singing at the concert.
I think....not many artish can do this...and they're just Lip Sing.
And I feel disappointed when I saw all the artish did that, I think every artish that released their album to the public must have a lot of talented.
So, I want to see how talented they are....just like JAY, he can show us lots of talented !! :wink2:

i think he does. i love the live concert cd. i seriously listen to it more than the actual cds. i wasn't that impressed during the pepsi concert though. it might have been choice of music tooooo---cuz i felt he was a little off on the high notes...

:excited: OMG! That is practically my FAVORITE song out of the entire The One concert. I love that song to death. First, the background music just rocks. Second, he raps really well in it. The live is even better than the recorded version of "Dou Niu".
I think I like hearing him say "YO YO YO". It's funny. And the way he says "Ye ye pao de CHA" is cute in The One concert. ^^
Jay really does sound better when he sings live. His voice is clearer, you can tell that he really has talent, and he doesn't mumble so much.
I think I like hearing him say "YO YO YO". It's funny. And the way he says "Ye ye pao de CHA" is cute in The One concert. ^^
HAHA that was so cute when he was singing that part (or saying). It's like, "YO YO YO YO YO, YE YE PAO DE CHAAAA" with like a totally different accent on the different words. Haha it was funny. I got a kick out of that.
Anyway, I love watching/hearing Jay sing live, it shows that he really does have the talent and the voice. Unlike some artists *coughAVRILLAVIGNEcough* who sound TERRIBLE live and shows that they just screwed around with the recordings to make her voice sound good.

Jay is a charming performer, cuz he HIPNOTIZES PEOPLE when he sings live songs. And the unparalleled potential to improvise and shed a new light to his songs is part of that charm.
After seeing him perform, you gotta love him, or else you got no sense...

hey linny......oh my god, i definitely hav to agree that the LIVE version of 'dou niu' is so much better than the recorded version!!! when i first listened to the concert version, i couldnt recognise that the beginning of the song was dou niu.....i was like, "huh.....what song is this, never heard before" then when he started singing.....i was stunned!!! and the extra rap part that he added in......'da lan jiu, zhe bian qiao, na bian qiao'......sorry if my pin yin is all wrong, but it sounds something like this......that part was so great!!!! and i just cant help to admit his talent in improvisations. he can just do it like its no matter at all.......not to exaggerate but very few artist can do things like this, jay is just one of his own......

I def agree - although I've never actually seen Jay live  (well not yet anyways) he sounds amazing on the live cd.
In my opinion, a good singer is one who not only sounds great on their records but most importantly, on stage. it's all about the live performances. There are sooooo many new artists out there nowadays who 'claim' they can sing but I reckon when it comes down to it I doubt very much that they'd be able to hack it live and sound as great as our Jay!

hmm... think jay sings really well live. maybe it's due to the high atmosphere. and besides he's the composer of all his songs and also due to his music talents, he knows the notes and melody so he will sing it well.
he's just great!

he does sing well for live concerts and stuff..and i like it when they changet the music around so u wouldn't be hearing the same thing you hear in cds....^^ its really cool......i like it when he sings live..cuz u can see him...and...see him putting his own feelings into the music...and the voice sounds more "lively"....instead of a recorded voice....thats y i like it ~

yes! his live singing is great but.... he often forget the lyrics!!!
yeah..he does forget his lyrics..does he do that on purpose? or just loves changing it.. sometimes he sings the 2nd verse first.. it gets mixed up..when ur singing along it makes u think.. am i singing correctly? or did i get it mixed up? n u keep thinkin about it.. "how come jay's singing it that way?"
HAHA that was so cute when he was singing that part (or saying). It's like, "YO YO YO YO YO, YE YE PAO DE CHAAAA" with like a totally different accent on the different words. Haha it was funny. I got a kick out of that.

i think jay sings good in live performances on tv and shows. sometimes though it seems like he's nervous or tired so he sings real soft/mumbly in the beginning of the song, but then by the end he seems more comfortable. i used to think his live singing was kinda shaky, but after seeing him perform at the vegas concert i was really blown away. he's got really strong vocals and much creativity because he changed up the melodies and beats of his songs. i think he performs a lot better live for his concerts because he's put so much preparation into it. his singing and energy from the crowd makes you really experience the feel of the song.

I think he sounds better live too. I was amazed when I heard him sing live. Like wow!!!! Jay is the only artist I've heard that actually sounds better on stage. He always changes his songs in his concerts so it would be different. It's so hard to sing live. Other artists I've heard sound absoluty HORRIBLE when they're singing on stage. Yep, Jay is a rare one!!!

yeah.. he sounds great live.. i was actually a bit hesitant to go for his concert earlier this year cos i was afraid he might sing badly and totally ruin my wonderful image of him...BOY did he prove me wrong.. he was AWESOME!! esp on his slow songs.. for those who have never heard him live before.. you're really missing out.. non-jay and moderate fans will be converted to near obsession.. haha
Oh~ I think his voice is cool in both his songs or live, hahaha~~but in concert he sounds a lil' better i guess ^_^
I think the best part of him in live performance is forgeting lyrics. He will give a "Ooops" smile. That's the interesting part in his performance. And of coz, he voice in live performance is definately the best. Coz those mp3 music were those recorded for many many times to perfect ones. As for live ones, he can't NG and sing again. :yeah:
I've been listening to the live version of Ni Ting De Diao for the last few weeks; didn't get to listen to the album version until a few days ago - i was a bit disappointed!! In the studio, Jay's falsetto lines are quieter, too quiet! But overall, i like the album versions, jay sometimes hold his voice back in performances, especially for An Jing.

he does? *looks around* i think he sounds better on CD's.. probably because in live, sometimes he will go off key! there's no guarantee that he'll sing it perfectly! on CD's, he does it over when it doesn't sound right so it's perfect!

hmm .. i tink that is bcoz .. when recording CDs .. they will make some background sound effect to enhance the music ?
but when there's live .. there isn't much of the sound effect .. jay is counted as not bad ..
some artist really sings very bad without sound effect .. but a few artist like jacky cheung andy lau .. they are old but sing well even without sound effect ..

ermz.. yes alot of singers DO hab their voices enhanced, (e.g juno's voice is almost definitely tweaked, a huge number of female singers do it as well, bcoz dey voices r simply too thin, or too sharp.) its easy to tell sometimes.
Jay however doesnt do this. Studio recordings will always b better quality and sound better, because of the way they r recorded. Every single thing u hear on the cd,in this case the voice, is recorded in a sound proof booth, to ensure at least, it will be the most clearest recording possible with no distortion. Also, in the studio, a singer (as with any other musician) can do endless takes of the song, and then they pick the best sounding one, or the one which the producer is most pleased with. If a producer feels that one particular part was sung badly while the rest was fine, a new take can be inserted.

Hhhhmmm...Jay sounds good at his CD's, but he sounds good live too. It's just different...his voice live is more softer than at his CD's. But although it's different, I love both voices...=).

dunno leh.... i didnt notice well... whether he is good in which ... but i uz know that his music rox... and very original... thats wad i like about his music... his singins is also good... and he is being creative like most of u guys sae... tweak his differently musics abit apart from how other singers tweak their music...during live performances.... so thats what make his music so special... and u wont get bored listening to it :)

yeah, the fact that he can improvise so well totally rocks! i definitely admire his talent and creativity. i think when he sings live, he's got a lot of control over what he's doing, especially the slower tracks since he's actually sitting down at the piano and stuff. so, he can be more 'free' and just go with what his heart's feeling.
when you put songs on a CD, in some ways you gotta make it sound like a package so that things don't sound all over the place. so you're bounded somewhat. also, when you're singing in a concert, your emotions are probably affected by fans' reactions. that kinda rush and adrenaline may inspire you to change the song from the way it's originally sung. ^0^ plus, i think jay always likes to surprise people and give them something fresh. and yeah, since all the music is written by him, he can change things around easier or add stuff or make transitions for medleys. the forgetting lyrics thing is funny. =P it's cute when he literally sings "i forget the lyrics" with the melody.
oh, one more thing. i also love the fact that he puts in so much effort into his concerts. he makes it really special for the fans, e.g., learning cantonese so he can say a few words or sing a song in their own language when he's holding a concert in HK.

haha...i think jay sounds sexy when he sings live!! he's so professional..he sings so amazingly perfect in his originals..but u really can't compare it to his live performances...he puts so much feeling into his singing..makes u want to cry...

actually he sound the same... the only thing is tat in his album, he is also involve in the HE SHENG but during live performance he can't HE SHENG while singing so he will always some how change the lyrics a little when he perform live... i've observe this quite a lotsa time especially there was once in Taiwan's Xia Ri Yin Yue Gao Feng Hui, he forget his lyrics of Ta De Jie Mao, den he change the lyrics n said smthing like 'wo you wang ci le' to fit nicely into the song... hmm... it really show him talented in such things.

i haven't personally heard him sing live, but i have viewed some concert clips. i couldn't tell very clearly because of the fans screaming. i think it feels better though, because you can see him singing, and it feels more real, as it's live.
still, i love how if you put your ear close to the speaker when you're listening to the CD, it sounds as if he's singing right there.

yeah.. like when he perforemed live and sang 'ni zen me lian hua dou shuo bu' (why cant you speak clearly) on the one concert ( i think that the concert.. whateva) i was whoa!!! damn!! jayyyy!! youre the best!! and one time.. i think i watched this on mtv china,.. and he performed live 'ta de jie miao' (her eyelashes)and that keeped me watching that performance!! lol
I don't really agree with you guys, no offense to jay but I think he doesn't sound as good in live concerts because he goes off pitch sometimes, but you can't deny that his songs sound really good. :)

05-21-2004, 05:59 AM
I don't really know how to judge this but it really depends. I think in CD versions, they use technology to fix the sounds and pitches to make it sound really nice so Jay's singing sounds pretty much perfect in the CD concerts. But when I heard him sing in HITO, he doesn't sound as good. It probably depends because some of the non-CD stuff that he sang live in were really good. He's a lot better comparing to a lot of artists out there when he's doing a live show.

T__T I've never been to his concert so I wouldn't know....but it seems like every here agrees he sounds better... Maybe one day I'll be able to hear him live ^__^

03-17-2006, 11:23 PM
i think he sings better in the CDs, its like perfect, where as when he sings live, he often go out of tune, or forget the lyrics..
but looking at lives are more interesting, its him singing it at that time, it wasn't edited or repeated
aznjayhunter
03-18-2006, 04:12 AM
hmmm.......i still think its better on cd because of all the technology stuff that gives it the finishing touches (as many of you have said), AND he can re-do the song as many times as he wants. so that can make the song perfect.
but , i think he's improved his live performances...especially Fa Ru Xue. i guess he's sang it many times, so maybe he's more comfortable with it.

03-18-2006, 05:39 AM
i agree! he sings well on his CDs but he sings even better livee cuz he sometimes changes the tune and goes an octave higher or adds his own sounds to make the song sound even better which shows that jay has an awseome voicee =D
Cai_Niao
03-19-2006, 03:13 AM
hmmm i think it depends he sounds DIFFERENT live ie. An Hao (signal) sounds alot higher on cd as compared to what he can do live
-vIt-
03-19-2006, 06:07 AM
Cai-Niao - what you said was true, what he can do in lives are limited, he often forgets the lyrics too, but he's so cute when he makes it up like "my territory" from incomparable concerts *with dan tou as a dog and all that * xD

He is a perfectionist. I think he will sing better than other artist during live performances. There are people who sings better 'live' than their what is presented in their album.
I think Jay has some of his own 'remixes' (as in how he sings) when it comes to 'live' performances, making every performance slighty different. I think he sings not as good as what was presented in the CD, but he is better than other artist.
