Best Mandarin Album of 2004 (besides QLX)

I'm curious again, to see what you all think is the best album of last year, if not Jay's Qi Li Xiang. THese are all great albums.

I know that there's a discussion thread about top 5, but I want to see what's number one! :excited: I've looked through and picked the most "said" choices in that thread, so vote!

I would have to say Lee-Hom's newest album...he barely made 2004, but it's still really really good. A close second would be Jolin Tsai or Johnny Lin.

wow...this was a pretty hard choice because i like a few songs from all those albums. i'd probably have to say Jolin's album because...i don't know...i just happened to like it more. i like trash truck and hui lai ba from wu yue tian too. FIR's music is nice but too rockish for me.

I voted for S.H.E - Encore. Because their Hou Niao is very nice!!!!! :D And also composed by Jay!!!!! :excited: Actually it is quite difficult for me to vote because I also like F.I.R and JJ Lin. But then, I like S.H.E's voices more and they seemed to have improved since they released the Qi Huan Lu Cheng (Magical Journey) album.

I think Yanzi's cd the best cuz all the songs are really quite listenable and nice.. I havent heard Lee Hom's cd, it is quite new, isn't it? FIR is not bad, but they really look like those japanese music bands..

S.H.E. is such a nice group.But of course,I would choose Jay to win the coveted MTV's
Favorite Artist Taiwan.If Jay wouldn't win,it's still okay as long as S.H.E. brings home the bacon.

This is a pretty hard poll!
All the albums are good, and they happen to be some of my favorite albums from 2004 too.
As much as I enjoyed Leehom's, Stefanie's, JJ Lin's and yes, I admit even Jolin's albums,
my vote went to NQMM :thumbsup:

All the songs for me are listenable and I won't get tired of ever
listening to the whole album over and over again. Plus it really just does wonders on my
moods; the album just cheers me up when I'm down and out.

I feel a bit guilty, though since I haven't listened to all the songs in Encore and God's
Child is Dancing. But I also liked the songs that I listened to from both albums.

NGMM's Summer was the most surprising album for me of the year. They have a lot of talent and I really think they have so much potential! Plus they were really awesome at Jay's concert!! JJ Lin's also really talented and I'd also like to see what he's got next!! Although I lost interest in his Haven album after a few weeks... (and went back to listening to QLX!! =D) And Stef Sun is... well, Stef Sun is Stef Sun, what can I say? "Stefanie" was a good album.. nothing too new for me, but has some really nice melodies nonetheless!!

Jolin's "Castle" was a little disappointing for me, not much to really get excited about... sadly, (I wish I can say otherwise) the same goes for Wang Lee-Hom's "Shangri-La"... I think maybe it was because I was a little overhyped about that one... (he was #3 on my list of top fave artists... #2 is David Tao and #1 is Jay!!) he assured everyone that his new album was gonna be different with a "Chinked-out" style and on the box he even wrote a letter to his audience that he wanted to do music that was more original rather than copying other styles... ironically, some of his songs actually sound like songs I've heard b4, like Usher's "Yeah", one of Mariah Carey's song (on the same song as da "Yeah"-like one... i think it's the first track), and even Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" on another track... although I like "Inner Sun and Moon" and "Forever Love", the rest wasn't that great,and some even bordered on...*sigh* unlistenable =( ... I commend his effort in trying to blend eastern styles into the album, but I think Jay already does a way better job in merging eastern styles into his songs, usually ranging from really subtle to being more obvious while fitting well with the song... to Lee-Hom: I really admire you, man! But if you wanna stay number 3 on my list... well... I'll have to wait for your next album! Do a good job! (cuz JJ... or even Hins Cheung is coming close to taking your place =P)

I've only heard several songs from S.H.E.'s "Encore", doesn't sound too bad... I've never heard F.I.R.'s album, but I've heard a lot of good things about, sooo I might consider giving it a try... same for Mayday, since I'm a fan of theirs as well!! (CONCERT IN SAN JOSE!!! FEBRUARY 20TH, WHO'S GOING???!!!!)

So, here's my list of the given albums (that I've heard) from most to least fave:
1. NQMM's Summer
2. JJ Lin - Haven
3. Stef Sun - Stefanie
4. Wang Lee-Hom - Shangri-La

1st album? Jolin's first album was not nice. Are u refering to 'kan wo 72 bian' or the first album?

I chose FIR's album. The songs are different from the the others, they are creative and are really worth listening to. Other albums' songs(except Jay, JJ, NQMM and Stefanie) are made just to favour the fans and cannot feel that they are really good songs(they are not original).

Their stamina had gotten so well. Also this album, they have variety of songs. Makes them more mature.

i voted fr stefanie sun, cos anw she's my fav singer after jay! so u can say im bias.. i kinda admit it! haha. but i truly think that stefanie's new album was great. the songs are nice and everything, but she did try out different styles. i won't say that it's her best album yet, ppl may beg to differ, but i can see like different sides to her now. previously, she had all the same styles. creatively burnt out, guess that's why she went fr a break too. but i thot almost all the albums u had up there were really good! 72 bian was jolin's breakthrough album, i guess, the songs are nice, but i think i get kinda sick after a while. castle is like.. err i dunno, i don't feel as much impact, and i don't have like one song that i particularly think it's good or anything. so, jolin's album is like more or less out. jj's one is great! he has really nice songs, and same goes for mayday's albums. their songs are like always pleasant and they don't disappoint. but i think fir's album just blew me away. after all the months being saturated with tinny boyband music, their album is really refreshing and really great! i really don't know how to express myself, but i think they have a really different style from all the others out there, and they are truly a great band. as for NQMM's summer and wang lee hom's shang-ri la, i have no opinions, since basically i've not heard those albums.. ok she now. their songs are nice! but some of their songs are always gotten from somebody else.. as in they are not original songs. well, at least one. they sing it great however! s.h.e is like a great band. i like them not so much for their music, but more for their bubbly personalities.. they are really fun to watch! haha they are truly adorable. their album is great, as usual like trying out many styles.

I voted for stefanie becos she was my second idol after jay [or maybe together with jay] cos the other albums are simply too great and i really can't choose! oh man, but i think if im not bias, which is quite hard, i will choose fir. they really put a lot of effort into it, and they are great. so yeah. please dont throw rotten eggs at me for giving such a lengthy but nonsensical comment. SIGHS. ok im ready fr the eggs.

i chose NQMM, i think they did a very good job in this album...besides they colabrated with jay, which by the way was even better. but i think they r good even with out jay....i like they're kind of music. very unique! :-)

F.I.R. has proven themselves to be creative within their debut album... maybe besides 塔羅牌 that I personally think that it wasn't in sync with other songs in the album (although I do know that they placed the song there to show their varieties), everything else is... smooth. my second choice goes to MayDay's 神的孩子們在跳舞。

I voted for yanzi's Stefanie. I think it was a really good CD. I like almost all the songs, especially wo ye hen xiang ta, wo de ai, and ben. S.H.E.'s encore is also not bad, I like bie shuo dui bu qi and wo ai ni. hou niao is not that bad either. F.I.R.'s CD is really great, they have tons of great songs too, and JJ's jiang nan sounds really good.

everyone got different taste of music. I personally think they improved alot through out all the albums. Their voices gotten so much better and this album shows the mature side of them. :rolleyes:

I like Encore and Castle a lot also! :-) Shangri-La, according to Leehom, is how you say "Xing Zhong De Ri Yue" in another dialect. I think it's also a place in China that he visited, because he searched for a lot of Chinese instruments and traditional music to include in his album (i think). You could go to the Leehom subforum or Shangri-la album thread for more info.

A lot of people like FIR's first album, so their 2nd one will probably do very well also!

i believe there are more albums released in 2004 n Lee Hom one shldnt be considered in it since it actually is being release in 2005. but anyhow, i still voted for F.I.R as i seriously admire Faye's voice. jus so cool. their songs simply can bring along fans to sing along. jus like what happened in singapore's some music marathon where they came to perform. imagine over thousand ppl singing LYDIA n Wo Men De Ai togethter with them n it's so damn loudly throughout the whole song, jus like how we Jay fans sing along with Jay in his concert. so i think their album is the best besides QLX.

Also, Wang Leehom's albums WAS released in 2004. It seemed like it was released this year, but it was actually released at the end of December (i don't know the actual date).

hm now that I finally bought Leehom's XZDRY, I have all the albums on this list except NQMM and Mayday! lol.

xin: yeah i agree, i can repeat FIR's CD a lot and not get tired of it. actually, same with Jolin's and SHE's albums. and I repeat leehom's ballads so much that my family gets annoyed. :P

Also, so far i think that FIR and JJ's first albums (in 2004) are better than their newest ones. JJ's newest one's quite good though (lol im listening to it right now).

i also think jolin's castle in2004 is better than her newest album J Game. it's not a bad album though.

i liked FIR's album too, its just that its too "grand" sounding for everyday listening...
as in, its not the kinda songs you can play in the background.....
their latest is not bad i guess, but in general i think the sound is just too "big" for me

I think Junjie's album was the best after Jay's. ALL his songs are nice. ALL. He wrote them himself, which I think is a remarkable feat. I know F.I.R also wrote their own songs, but when I compare the number of songs I like from Junjie's album and F.I.R's, I definitely vote for the former. Yeaaaaa.

Ye Hui Mei still remains my favourite Jay album thus far. I think Fantasy comes in a close second. November's Chopin will be next, maybe because I haven't quite listen to it frequent enough. But Ye Hui Mei has left me an impression of Jay more than any other of his album because I loved every single track on that album. It's the only album I truely liked all of the songs on it!

yeah, i really liked jolin's Castle album too! I liked J Game even more though :-)
