Tim (Korean artist) - Part 1!

i can't help but start a thread on this guy cuz i simply love his voice so much. :D i think he's probably my third fave korean artist after shin hyesung and kangta. :bleh: here's a couple of pics (credits Tim Mania):

he's released two albums so far, the first one entitled "Sarang Hamnida" (I Love You) and the second one is called "Second Breath". he has a really nice soothing voice and his music is great. :happy:

so, have you guys heard about him? what are some of your fave songs of Tim's?

from the 2nd album, i really love "Morning Star" and "Fathers". from the 1st one, which i just got to hear thanks to jessca, i really love "I Love You" and "Like Before". but there's really too many to choose from, i really like them all. :-) heehee... i have the "I Love You" MV, so if anyone's interested, i can upload that. that's the only MV i have so far though. but i can upload some pics to share if you'd like. just let me know. :D

OMG! Thank you so much for starting a thread! I've been wanting to do so for so long, but was afraid to do so. No one seems to really know who he is. I can't find a lot of info on him either, but I do absolutely love his voice and he just looks absolutely adorable! I saw him in Rival and Happy Together with Taebin and I was so intrigued. I adore his second album (haven't listened to his first one yet).

He's from Pennsylvania correct?

he's from Philadelphia, i think. here's a short bio i dug up... it's originally from Tim Ocean (http://www.timocean.com), but i got it off a friend Cindy's site who has a Tim Fanlisting (http://tim.almostgeek.net). so, credits to them. :-)

If you want the Rival and Happy Together videos, I'd be happy to upload those. He only appears for one minute in Happy (cuz it was actually Taebin's episode). But watching the two of them trying to figure out Korean phrases was pretty funny.

I love Morning Star as well. The fact that it's in English helps a lot :laughing: I also love Day Dream and I think also #5 (don't remember the korean name). A download thread would be wonderful :excited:

ive noticed him on some of my xman and rival eppies hehe..will have to watch them properly later and see what hes like. i imagine him to be really quiet though.. :unsure: and he was on Happy Together too? ill have to find it on emule just too see him play the spoons game :roll: any excuse to hear gasoos sing acapella.. :rolleyes:

well, actually, i still think that Taya's voice is the best! I don't think that Tim's voice is as strong as Kangta's , but it's definitely nice, and so pleasant to listen to.

lisa - *pats computer* on the rival gameshow, they play games quite similar to xman. youve got the karaoke/dancing game, teamwork games, knocking each other over, the 'saranghae' game where you shout insults to the opposite team (person A: [insult, i think we should break up] person B: [no i love you, insult, i think we should break up] etc)...always funny to watch hehe... :laughing:

oh and im not sure whether timmys good at dancing.. :unsure: he did a rather weird dance with se7en on rival and im not sure whether he was trying to impress or taking the mick.. :roll:

jess: i didn't think his dance was that weird! :laughing: that steppy thing he started with... a lot of guys back in high school used to do that a lot at dances. and then he broke out in the "carlton dance" from 'fresh prince of bell air' which was just meant to be really funny. from what i can see, he could actually be quite the dancer :D with his ballads, though, i don't think he could make a dance with those type of songs :happy:

Popular through his song "I Love You," ballad singer Tim is currently staying in Cambodia for missionary work.

Tim's management president Lee Jae Hyun said, "Tim's brother, who is a pastor, and his fanclub TMMC members prepared for this missionary since last year and finally left for Cambodia at the end of 2004."

Tim is currently serving the missionary and founding a new school there.

It is known that Tim's brothers not only work through churches and other missionary groups, but they openly do missionary work on their own.

Because his father is evangelizing in US and being raised in a devoted Christian family, Tim had donated a lot of money for missionary uses during his time as a singer.

Tim is to return to Korea later this month.

In 2003, Tim debuted with his song "I Love You," and in 2004, he returned with his 2nd album title song, "Thank you," which he performed many times last year.

I forced myself to make Taebin the last gasoo I will have on my computer, but I find myself breaking the promise because Tim really took my my breath away with his voice. I have to say of all the singers I'm into now, Tim by right have the best voice I've ever hear... It started with a couple of his songs and then his whole album and more of his english songs (it's easier to familiarize myself with his style with songs I can actually understand).

to echo what patya said... i didn't think i would "get obsessed" with anyone besides shinhwa (due to time restrictions and such). :tongue: but i love kangta and tim! and group S since hyesung and kangta are in it. :rolleyes: anyway, kangta's voice is unbeatable for live performances. like jecka said, his emotions are simple WOW!! :love: especially when he hits those high notes! his voice is awesome!! not to mention, his english pronunciation is so good!! (better than a lot of artists who resided in US for some time.) for hyesung, he has a great voice too, but lacks slightly in lustre compared to kangta. tim has a really soothing voice and you just don't get tired of listening to him. i'm not into wheesung or hwanhee's voices as much. i listen to other gasoos here and there, but i focus on shinhwa/kangta/tim/S. :bleh:

Lyn, lol, it's hard to suggest just a few :). for English performances, the best is "Right Here Waiting" i'd say.
My favourite song by Kangta is "Polaris". The MV for it is weird, but really suits the song!

we always welcome new tim fans, lyne. :brows: the sarang hamnida song is on his first album. so, go grab his second one. :wink2: i think it's a bit hard to hear kangta in group S cuz jihoon and sungie seem to sing more. :? and sungie's voice is really easy to pick out. in any case, their harmony is awesome. there's a DLs thread (http://www.jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3584) for kangta stuff, but if you have problems with briefcase, then it'd be hard for you to get the clips there. i'll try to upload a few of his live clips onto yousendit links. it was during his H.O.T days during their concerts. :D

Tes: yes!!! his third jib is due out around end of july right now. :excited: i can't wait!! not sure how album sales will do considering it's summer and usually ballad albums don't do as well during this time. :unsure: timmy's voice is different in quality to sungie's, it's a different kind of love. haha... :laughing:

to answer your question on LL, i have all of the shinhwa ones from Season 1 and all the Season 2's, most of which have Tim on it. i'm missing the Tim ones from Season 1 though cuz i didn't realize he was on. :oops: just thought it was andy... =P heehee... yes, LL eppies are once a week on saturdays...

what do they do? well, in season 1, it was all the guys vying for the love of one girl (an actress). in season 2, now they have 7 guys and 7 girls and they all sort of try to win someone's love so that they can get paired out. if you're not chosen, you go to minor league and have some games there. you get punished if you "struck out" in the game. there are different parts to the eppies... there's always dancing... and then the girl would throw flowers for the guys to catch... other games include role-playing, play-wrestling/fighting, rolling around on a mat with bumps as a pair, high-kicking, etc. etc. it's really funny to watch, you should definitely make room on your comp. for it! :bleh:

and there's some sort of system inspection with clubbox right now. there's something about june 15th, 3:00-9:00... i guess it should work after that... anyway tes, if you want any LL stuff, lemme know and i'll upload them steadily... :happy:

And he's only got 3 mv's (1 of which is just scenes form the drama ...ing). LL is a definite much watch! I used to laugh so much while I watched them that my roommates (and the roomie's bf) always looked at me weird :blush: Oh oh and you've got to see him dance!! It's soooo uber cute!! He doesn't do the whole big routine like minu or jinnie but it just looks so good and he's just adorable!! Keke, but take your time with dling. I'm on summer break. tes: you're most welcome. anytime, 'k? :kisschee: oh, you won't even need 3 gigs. i only have the LQ versions, which are around 150MB each? well, the show was originally created for Shinhwa when they released their 7th jib, i think. so, the first part of season 1 (14 eppies, bascially 7 pairs of eppies) had shinhwa in it. after that it was just andy and some other guys. but for the last 4 eppies of season 1, tim was on and i missed it. :oops: but dear vicki will provide us with these clips. :excited: i think there were 22 eppies in total for season 1.

as for season 2, tim has been on ALL except 2 eppies. i was surprised he wasn't on those 2 eppies. anyway, season 2 is still going, so we'll get to see more of timmy. :bounce: there's been 8 eppies in season 2 so far. lemme just take care of the Loveholic drama for tonight and i'll start reuploading LL from season 1. :D timmy's 2nd jib is already on my clubbox. =)

i didn't think much of the ballad album summer phenomenon either... but someone brought it up at another forum and i think it makes sense. i would guess with the summer season, people would tend to enjoy more upbeat tunes, or at least an album that contains a mixture of genres. unless timmy goes beyond his usual ballad stuff, then maybe it won't be quite so bad. i really don't know though since i think timmy has a pretty stable market. i'm sure his fans will support him no matter which season he releases his albums. :tongue: teehee...

yeah, you can see timmy dance in LL. there's a dance segment in part 1 of each pair of eppies and also the flower throwing part. (that's why you can see all this hilarious "dancing" by sungie in season 1. :rolleyes: rumour has it that sungie might be on LL season 2 as well, but i'm not sure.) oh, and there's dancing on x-man, too. tim was on x-man the past two weekends (also comes in pairs of eppies). they're still on my clubbox, but i'll need to reup the older ones soon.

tes: those 2 guys are ShinChun (forgot their full names). they are hilarious indeed. :D i think season 1 was better though with Shinhwa and just 1 girl instead of 7. as for x-man, i'm educating myself as well... i only watched the recent ones cuz sungie was on. i think there's an x-man selected from the group and what the person has to do is show signs of X during the gameshow. i didn't realize this till the most recent eppy when everyone chose tim, but he wasn't x-man. it's pretty fun to watch. wished i understood the dialogue of the "of course" game though. i think that'd be even funnier. :tongue: anyway, timmy's very pleasant to look at, so get yourself acquainted through these clips. :rolleyes:

Personally I think Sungie is just ahead of Tim. From the bits and pieces of live singing here and there in LL, Sungie seems to sing live much better. But then, perhaps that has to do with experience. :-)

tes: what's this i hear? perv-worthy clips? :shifty: is this tes's new hobby? or has it always been your pastime? :angel: as for sungie vs. timmy's vocals... i think they each have their strength and even if sungie's my hubby, it's a bit hard for me to compare them. sungie's voice is strong and he knows the technical skills to sing well, but overall, his voice is a little nasal. just cuz that's his voice quality. for timmy, he has more open vocals, but still strong. he has proper training and everything after all since he's been singing for so many years at school and competitions and such. so, i don't think experience would be the key here because both guys are very experienced in different ways. sungie with more stage performance with fans and experience in the entertainment industry; timmy with more stage performance with a different type of audience and more choral/band experience. in terms of live singing, timmy can do very well, but i think it hasn't been that great on LL. not sure if it's cuz he was trying to sing high notes too often. so, sungie seems more comfy with singing live on LL. plus, sungie often sings on gameshows. :-) overall, i think sungie's voices moves me just a bit more than timmy's. sungie seems to have more emotional expression when singing whereas timmy's more soothing and just sounds really relaxing. ^0^

dana: haha... as much as i love sarang hamnida, i'm getting a bit tired of timmy singing it on LL. :bleh: he has so many other great songs on his jibs, why not sing something else??? unless that's the only song the others know well. or he wants the "i love you" message all the time. hmmm... even with a 3rd jib though, i think he'll still be doing ballads mostly and to be honest, without bias, i don't think he would be able to compete with sungie's solo jib. timmy will do well, but he doesn't have the same kind of presence or support as shinhwa. :happy:

irina, sarang hamnida is just another way to say i love you. and it's rather easy to sing along to the songs cause people romanize the lyrics, but if you can't read the english lyrics fast enough, it might be a bit challenging to sing along. personally, i love track 2 of the first jib "from time to time, tears come out" among others but thank you and sarang hamnida aren't my favorites ^^

I've seen polls and people said that he was the best korean vocalist and I never really took a chance to check his voice out. But I heard him sing...and OMLORD. I was sooo blown away. In a industry of dancers with sub-par voices..this guy just totally blew me away.

He has a really really really nice voice, it's so awesome and soothing, and perfect. AHHH I'm so in love with his voice <3333

i think koreans in general are really amazing vocalists actually. shin hyesung, tei, brian and hwany from fly to the sky, etc etc... they're all so amazing. sometimes i think people will look down on a guy's vocal abilities if he can dance really well. but for sure tim's got a reallly strong yet soothing voice. i was listening to morning star once and my sis walks in and asked if it was josh groban hehe. definitely a compliment cuz josh groban's so amazing in his vocals too and i made the same comparison when i first started listening to him. but not only does he have an amazing voice, he's also super smart and so so cute! hahaha :blush::love:

I really love josh groban, he's one of the best vocalists ever. Along with Clay aiken.

He has an awesome voice, and it’s cool that’s he’s really talented J
So he didn’t finish college? That’s a shame, but oh well. It’s nice to see that he was a hardworker and not someone who was just picked off the streets and had their big break. But did I mention I love his voice? Haha, it’s really strong. I’m really into singers that have a very strong control of their lower range so it supports their singing. I’m not as into very high pitched male singers that don’t have the “manly” sound to them.

I think what’s wonderful about him is that what first attracted me to him was his voice. I heard a song of his and I was like wow. For me a voice tends to attract me more to a singer than a face or a talent like dancing. And those things last the longest because appearances diminish over time J

I was wondering is he mostly known for his ballads and does he sing any other genres?

I was in band too. Haha but then I quit because I couldn’t juggle it all. Brian has a good voice also, but I prefer Tim more because I remember hearing Brain and I was like ok, that’s nice, but it wasn’t until I heard Tim when I was like “wow I have to hear more about him”.

Actually in most Asian industries I have yet to see a majority of the singers that can hit high notes and have a strong low range. That’s one reason I really like Leehom and David Tao because no one else in the Chinese industry has blown me away their vocal ability. Are there any other artists like Tim?

Yeah I think I have to somewhat agree with it. I remember hearing Boa and Se7en singing Chinese versions of their songs and somehow their voices didn’t sound as great as it did in Korean. But I think it could have been the fact that they couldn’t pronounce as well.
