nope! not even avril!!
ok all of these girls knows how to play music instrument but only michelle who really knows music [she wrote some of her songs and at least produce those that she doesn't write i think] a bit simmilar to jay??
and avril i saw her live performance one it was really wierd she wore this huge sun glasses stand there infront of the mic and sing complicated and do nothing else it was the worse live performance i've ever seen
besides her voice was not all that great she can't even reach the high note on complicated
but that just me =P

Michelle Branch! she's the coolest. gotta love the new song with her and santana. what is it... game of love I think? anyway, cool collaboration. hope they win a grammy! she's way prettier than Vanessa. *keke*

Gotta throw in my 2 cents here.

Avril DOES have some musical sense.... I'm pretty sure she writes her own songs. They're catchy, but ANNOYING AS HELL after a while. After hearing "Complicated" twice.... well you can guess. Especially when all the girls around you start to sing it also. I mean, honestly. Why do girls get so worked up over lyrics to a song? It's like poetry. But no one takes poetry to be real life. Otherwise, we'd all be expecting stupid crazy stuff to happen. Have you ever noticed that girls expect guys to be like what those Cantopop singers sing about? ARGH! :p Sometimes, it makes me want to shoot myself.

I thought the complicated song was pretty good. I riped the mp3 from my sister who has the album. Haven't really tried the other songs though. Been a couple or months or so and I've only listened to one track. I'm so lazy

I like her voice, it's unique. It's like she sings with a lot of feelings and stuff. And her music video where she's being pulled really fast by this car while playing piano was cool.. ^_^

a thousand miles was good but after a few times, it started to get on my nerves.

well, i have to admit that i didn't like her at all in the first place. when i heard "a thousand miles" on the radio i thought it was ok, but considered her another britney spears. it wasn't until a friend of mine bought that cd and i got to listen to the whole thing a few times that i realized that she's not that bad. i have my own copy of "be not nobody" now  , and it's really worth it. i particularily like "rinse" and the cover version of "paint it black" (other than "a thousand miles" and "ordinary day" of course). but most of the other songs on the album are also pretty good. :wink2:

i absolutely luv her song 'a thousand miles', i've had it on my winamp list for at least a year now and i'm still not sick of it, i think its the piano bit which hypnotises me. but her other song 'pretty baby' isn't as good, but i still like it, from wat i remember of it.

but for some reason it seems as tho she isn't releasing anything else in australia anymore.

Maybe she's just on a break atm....

The most significant song i can remember from Vanessa Charlton was A Thousand Miles.. i would say its a really nice song.. the Lyrics very well-penned.. i like the tune also.. :D
but i also agree with zhy378 that michelle branch was better.. but i wouldn't be confused over the 2 of them.. there's this difference~

i've only heard the 2 carlton tracks mentioned by gary. she seems pretty good. i saw her MV where she was playing piano. as for michelle branch, i've only heard "everywhere" and "goodbye to you". she's pretty talented from what i know and a lot of people like her. as for avril, i've only heard "complicated", "sk8er boi", and "i'm with you". the songs are catchy, but i think she's overrated. you have all these girls who hate britney and dress like avril. however, she IS a fellow canadian. =)

I like her and I admire her for composing her music sometimes and she's very talented at playing the piano. But her music is very nice, it has that classical feel to it. I'm not a great fan of her voice because it gets annoying, but I generally listen to the music. By the way, does anyone know what happened to her? I haven't heard anything from her for a long time now!

I have her album and I used to like her a lot but now I find myself getting quite tired of her. And seriously, her piano skills aren't really anything to crow about, not after listening to Maksim Mrvica. :)

She's okay. I prefer her to Michelle Branch, definitely. I really enjoyed her cover of the Stones' "Paint It Black" though. Very nice!

same here. i used to have all her song on my MP3 and now i only have 2 left: A Thousand Miles and Ordinary Day. got tired of the rest. true, her piano skills are good, but not NEARLY as good as many pplz... (in cluding Jay :wink2: ) but her voice sonded okay i suppose... and she composed some of the song herself, which is cool.

I love her songs, they have a nice classical/pop feel to them...

The only thing I have against her are her music videos. They are sooo badly done, and she looks really bad playing the piano and singing at the same time...-_-

i almost forgot about vanessa carlton until now when i heard the news of her performing on a tv. everytime i think of her, remind me of her music video with the piano, thousands miles.

"Vanessa Carlton performs on an upcoming episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," in which two grandparents raising three orphaned grandchildren in Philadelphia get a renovated home. The renovation takes place over the course of two back-to-back episodes airing April 30 beginning at 7 p.m. on ABC. Since the children's late mother suffered from breast cancer, Carlton's performance takes place at a breast cancer awareness fundraising concert"-mtv.com

 thats good, at least we know vanessa carlton is still doing good things for the public

i liked a thousand miles and pretty baby (not sure if its the title)....its the song with the MV with brendan fehr in it...

i also saw vanessa do a fan/idol thingy at MTV...wherein she has to audition fans of hers so that they can play or record a song with her...she was pretty humble and so helpful in it... a girl from europe got in, i think...

didnt she use to date stephan jenkins of third eye blind?

I love this girl!
Vanessa Carlton is one of my favorite female artists ever.
She's got raw talent. I love her breathy voice and unique singing technique
that goes perfectly well with her piano-driven songs.
And oh, she can play the piano too...with finesse!
I love her songs, especially Ordinary Day, A Thousand Miles, Pretty Baby, and White Houses.

I was kind of disappointed that her second album Harmonium didn't sell well
and was thus considered as a commercial failure and Vanessa's recording company
didn't encourage her from promoting the record and releasing any more singles other than the first one,
White Houses, (which, by the way, is a nice Vanessa Carlton signature song). =(
It was said in an interview that the song Private Radio was supposed to be the first single off the album.
Oh well, that song is as good and as catchy as White Houses though.

Anyway, her third album is scheduled for release later this year.
I hope it'll do well in the market if not surpass the sales of her debut album Be Not Nobody.

didnt she use to date stephan jenkins of third eye blind?

I heard she's currently residing in San Francisco with the guy,
her producer who also happens to be her boyfriend.
All the best to the both of them and to Vanessa's upcoming album.
I'm pretty sure that nessaholics (what Vanessa's legion of fans call themselves)
are anticipating that one, including myself.

I don't know much about her.
But her voice gives me a very soothing and comfortable feeling.
Everytime I listen to her songs, it makes me feel like I'm floating, very relaxed.
Haha it may sound exaggarate but really that's how I feel.

^ Don't worry, you're not weird. =P
I feel the same thing too whenever I listen to hear songs.
She has this breathy, ethereal voice that makes you feel lighter from within.

Me and classmates tried to imitate her singing style 'cause we find it amusing.
When she sings she pronounces words in a different manner like she says
'ra-height' instead of right and 'pa-halm' instead of palm.
She prolongs words plus she always add 'ahhah' at the end of every line.
Did anyone ever notice that? Listen to Ordinary Day, it's full of those.

Lol whenever I hear a Vanessa Carlton song. All I can think of is the movie with the Wayans Brothers "White Chicks" where the big black guy imitated that song in the car. That was too funny.:D

However, she has alot of talent but her songs were way too overplayed to the point where I didn't want to listen to another second of it.I do like her piano playing though.^^:bleh:
