[CONTEST] JCNET Logo Design

This is just an impromptu contest I thought up of like 2 seconds ago as I was looking at our site name. I've tried to use the same (or similar) font for our site name, but we've never had a logo. I mean the olympics have the 5 rings, mcdonald's has the arches, so why can't we have something too?

There aren't any rules or specifications, I know we have lots of talented artists here and I'm just curious to see what you guys can come up with.

Again I don't wanna burden it with rules, but try to at least have "jay-chou.net" or "JCNET" somewhere on the logo.

In terms of prize, as I said this was impromptu, the only prize would be that your logo will be immortalized on our site.

Some sketch i came up with....catseyes suggest i do something with a more calligraphic feel..... but i dun have the software...... but will go get it..... please give some critic......
the idea behind it is that JAY Chou makes up the Chinese character of Jie of Jay's chinese name and NET is incomporated into the chinese character -LUN...added another layer behind so it will not look so flat but somehow still look quite empty to me......

Suggestions please!!!

This is to explain how it should look like...e " A " was supposed to look like an inverted tick and a tail coming down at an angle at e other end..... anyway,it's just a sketch....will do a nicer version soon if i can get e software...... inspired by the work of one of my seniors in school.... who also used english words to form a chinese character but his is more impacting n meaningful..... :shy:

Sinny, do u have adobe illustrator? I would highly recommend anyone planning on doing this to use illustrator, its adobe's program that is made more for design, as opposed to photoshop which is more just...image manipulation. I think ps cs has some of the illustrator features integrated into it, but im sure illustrator would be more powerful and definetly more useful for a contest like this ~_^

what program are you talking about? If its about illustrator, I can upload illustrator 10 for everyone, (the setup is a bit complicated, since its an older crack, but its no big deal)

Or if you have mirc or bt there are tons of place to go find that kinda stuff ^^ (cant help you ppl with linux tho :whistle: )

Hmm, so far entries are quite interesting! Bee, prototype and twily!
They're all so different! Bee's is very linear, Proto with chinese calligraphy, and twily's is very graphic and curvy!

twily, I think the one with the orange strokes are better. Gives the logo more feel and makes it look fuller. Maybe you could do the strokes in different colours so we can have a better look to see which ones are nice for the JCN blue version? Maybe something like a play of diff shades of blue might be interesting. Or a combi of blue and a bit of some other colour.. Like turqoise...

ellen_nver_falz, i agree with you on that one. I love the new style, I refreshed alot of times just to see all of the pictures Jay! :D

bee- interesting, i would have never though of outlining Jay. It feels kinda empty at the bottom of the circle though.

prototype911 - I love the way Jay's name is writting in calligraphy style. You did a really good job connecting the letters and it flows really nicely. Maybe you could make the "NET" smaller cause the attention should be focused on "Jay"

twi~light- yours remind me of a sun and clouds. lol... its super cute. The circle with Jay and "zhou" is really creative. Great job!

FreaK - The swirls of blue and orange is really nice. But you should tone down on the swirls. Maybe you should have some solid colours, like on "zhou zie lun", it would make it look bolder.

Is there a deadline to this contest? I would really like to join but right now i have to study for exams. :dry:

Freak, hehe you know what your logo reminded me of when I first saw it? That cat in Alice in wonderland! It has stripes and stuf just like that :p

But that's the fun of illustrator... I haven't finish playing along with the illustrator 10 yet. Now the CS version is out, I tried a bit but it feels pretty much the same as 10, so dun worry too much if you are not going to hard-core website design or something similar to that. I tend to buy a software but with no additional books with it because it will ruin my curiosity to the software.... :happy: I am more of an illustrator person than photoshop.

Alrighty, did a couple more. These gifs are rather small in file size, so I hope it doesn't take too long to load.

I did a sketch on a scrap piece of paper, and decided to make a J look like a treble. So I hoped on my PS, and went through my fancy fonts to see if they already had one that resembled it!

Alas! They did. It's called french script. So I used that, messed it up a bit, and got it to look the way I wanted it to :) Came up with these few designs.

The theme colours of the Incomparable skin (should be an exact match I think!)

Used the same theme colours to run a gradient through the txt, and outlined it to encase it.

Thought the previous needed something a little more, so I embossed for more depth.

Nice works twi~light....like e first one.....me n catseyes were at e library n he bought up e concept of using musical notes as fonts but i wrecked my brains n could not find a way to do it....really glad that u were able to bring it to life.....the design is simple yet sophisticated..... like ur choice of colours..... but e glow on the third n fourth design gave it a 3d feel n might stand out too much in a banner.... might distract e eyes abit......

U sure work fast...ha ha...me work rate so low compared to urs..... had a couple of new ideas but being slowed down cos when i went to buy e software today...i realised it was closed....sigh..... but nevermind...i shall try again on friday.....oh maybe can do it in school tomorrow during my 4 hr study break....

It will be really useful if u have a tablet... cos it allows u to draw more freely than a mouse or the line drawing tool in Photoshop .... alot of graphic designers n even animators have them..e best is Wacom as they have more experience in this area..... i got one 5 months ago n i m absolutely in love with it...really very useful.hope this is useful....... :wave:

Firstly, I used the same concept as my previous design - the J as a trebble.
Then beside it is Chou in chinese, but I changed it into a double semi quaver... that then fitted in rather nicely with a "." which makes a note an extra half beat I believe! So I guess it makes this a dotted double semi quaver :? :bleh:

I had to do some investigation to find this out! I completely forgot everything I learnt about music, so had to call up a mate and describe the notes to her! Lol :p

Thanks kasic, as for your question, that would be because I followed the theme colours of the new skin for jc.net. The lovely Incomparable skin that Karen designed... its main colours are blue and orange. I add white because it's quite predominant with the new skin as well :)

This was a logo made by my friend a long time ago, with the intention to use this for a fanclub. But I think I could try to submit this for the competition? I edited the logo to suit our purpose.

Ok guys, I finally uploaded Adobe Illustrator 10 for you all.

Ok, there are instructions in that on how to install it, but I will tell you what to do here anyways

[1] After you have downloaded the file, extract it to a temporary location. The file you are downloading is similar to a winrar file, so just double click it and choose a folder, it will extract its files there. These files that it extracts are the install files. After it has been extracted, you can delete this original file. (But if your not too sure what ur doing, keep it in case you mess up)

[2] Now go into that temporary folder and look for the text document called "serial #". Open it up. Copy that cd key.

[3] Now here is the trick. Double click on ur clock on the taskbar in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Change the year to 2000. Only the year. Don't worry we will be changing it back later, and the time and date will be correct, however do this for now. If you do not do this, it will not accept your cd-key

[4] Now, back in the folder, run the "setup" file. If you are unsure which "setup" file it is, it should be the one with a blueish icon and if you right click on it, go to properties, you will see it is an application and is 53KB

[5] Install the program using the serial number that you copied. This should be relatively fast.

[6] It is now safe to change your year back to the year 2005.

[7] Right click on the file called "Patch" that has a skull icon. Copy it. Go and paste it here
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator 10\Support Files\Contents\Windows
Keep in mind you MUST patch the program or else you cannot use it.

[8] Run it. Choose "crack."

And your done. Have fun exploring illustrator 10. There is one more folder in that set of install files called "Kai's Power Tools...." That is a plugin for illustrator so that it can use vector effects. You may not know what that is now, but if you become very proficent at illustrator, you will find them very helpful. I will now go over how to install that. This part is OPTIONAL

[1] Open the "Kai's Power Tools ..." Folder and open the text document called "serial." Copy the cd key.

[2] Run the program called "KPT Vector Effects 1.5" Go through the installation process. Use that cdkey you copied

[3] When you get to the part of the program where you choose where to install it, choose your plugin folder which should be by default
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Illustrator 10\Plugins

And you are done.

The files from that temporary folder, those can now be deleted.

np, and there is currently no deadline, but keep checking the first post to see if we do decide on one. I think tho, there isn't any particular rush on this, and lots of ppl (such as myself) are busy and so we may take our time on it. Feel free to keep posting ur ideas here tho ^^ Not only will you get recognized for your great logos, you will help inspire others ^^

khim, i like the boldness of your logo with a white, black and red scheme. it simply popped off my screen.

pamujung, actually my logo has a simplified color blocks showing a blue face, the black knit hat, blue headphone and wires. the fist is integrated into the knit hat. i guess was hard to decipher it.

:D Oh...I like every logo you made it. Creative works. From your works, they make me wanna do it by myself too. So...this's my logo. Just ordinary and simple, I write these letter by use lasso tool in photoshop. It's quite not neat at all. Anyway, I try my best. lol. :happy:

Incynical - Eh, i used paint, not photoshop. Hehe. White marks, you mean the jay face? I edit it using microsoft words, and then paste it in paint.
