View Full Version : Shunza - Talents that Touch the Soul
anyone ever listen to Shunza? i think she's really creative...her originality is something i always admired...i love her older songs...like "I'm Not a Star" and such...and some of the music that she wrote for her good friend...whom i also admire a lot, Taozi (Momoco)
i think her music is like Jay's...in the way that all of her music reflect her style...its not scattered at all...i can tell a piece is by her just by the intro to the melody...and i like that
her new album - My Friend Petty Su (wo de peng you petty su) is very unique...sounds almost haunting at times...if you like her...you should definitely purchase it...or at least try a DL or two online...i'll probably upload some of her music later
so...anyone else listen to her? by the way...if you don't know her english name but know her chinese name...they sound the same...or similar...the chinese version is Shun Zi

i have 3 of her songs. she also sings in english too...i have her version of norah jones's "don't know why". It's pretty good, but i like the original better. i also have "hui jia" and "dear friend". her voice is very pretty!!

i've only heard two of her songs: the one she sang with elva, and "問自己 (wen zi ji)" <-wasn't that elva's song first?
her voice is really pretty and it stands out from other female artists

i've been thinking about starting a thread about shunza, but then i decided against it. anyways, i have several shunza albums and i gotta say that i like most of them, esp. the fact that alot of her songs that i've been listening are very blues-ish (do you say that in english? i don't know... :? ). i think there should be more chinese blues. other than shunza there's only one other female artist that i know of who sings blues. it seems to me that nowadays cpop is all kind of heading into the same direction. whatever.
i'm just guessing, but is she an abc? the only thing i don't like about her is that there's too much english in her songs. i mean the song titles and the lyrics... everything... but as i said i other than that i think she's doing fine.
yes sorry i meant Betty Sue > <
ah sauerkraut a fellow shunza fan? she has a lot of english...thats true (RnBish)...but thats probably because of the way she was educated...she is pretty american
i love one of her old songs...called...April, 1969 i believe

Shunza has amazing vocal talent.
I think she could only be 2nd to A-mei, is skills and power. Of course, i like the Shunza when she made her first 2 albums, cuz the songs she would come out with were just SO SO good.
Her new songs are good too, but the standard isint as high as it was.
But still.. SHunza... worth respecting, very talented. She dosent need dancing, fancy promotion, looks, just her voice is good enough to pump her to the top 10's. (i think shes more of a David Tao, then a Jay Chou)
ah yes the song was named April 7, 1969!
i remembered! -proves to himself that he's only 17-
sometimes my thoughts and memories just escape me...and it feels as if -continues to digress-

mh, i don't remember april 1969. although i believe i have that song somewhere. on which album is it?
yub, i'm another humble admirer of shunza. it's somehow comforting to know that there are still some good artists out there and it doesn't always necessarily take a britney spears look-a-like to be successful. :wink2:

I think there is such a song, my fren sang that song in karaoke..such a nice song.. "Di Dum Di Di Dum.." with guitars and her smooth voice. I think that song was in her Hui Jia album?
She was from China but educated in US.
The Betty Su song sounds like a jingle..coffee jingle reminds me of the song she has sang a few years ago with that nescafe jingle/song. ^^;
it goes something like "when you moon shines in your eyes, i know the sun has set..."
its called April 7, 1969
its accompanied by guitar only, if i remember correctly

gah, its called "xie yi shou ge, April 5. 1969"
part lyrics goes like this:
ooh LOVE'S IN THE AIR IT'S EVERYWHERE
EVERYONE CAN SEE EVERYONE CAN FEEL
THAT'S LOVE IN THE AIR
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE
EVERYONE AGREES
LOVE IS ALL WE NEED
WHEN THE MOON FALLS IN YOUR EYES
I KNOW THE SUN HAS SET
THE FIRE STILL BURNS WITHIN ME
SINCE THE DAY WE MET
I KNOW MY HEAVEN WOULD BE SO COMPLETE
YOU COULD MAKE IT REAL
I WON'T LET THIS CHANCE GO BY
I CAN SEE, I CAN FEEL YOU
WHEN THE MOON FALLS IN YOUR EYES
I KNOW THE SUN HAS SET THE FIRE STILL BURNS WITHIN ME, WITHIN ME
it's in the hui jia album, the ablum is called Yesterday.One.More.
i like her voice. and esp her "hui jia"!

ah yes the song was named April 7, 1969!
Its April 5th, 1969!!
Anyway, i must agree that Shunza has an amazing vocal range, i think she did Hui Jia exceptionally well, and i like Xie Yi Shou Ge April 5th 1969 alot too. However, I really hate that Betty Sue song, its too jarring on my nerves! Haven't heard the rest of her album though, so i shan't pass judgement too soon..
EDIT: oops, i just saw Ziwei jie's post, yeah, so it really is April 5th 1969
yer...okay memory IS escaping me
i have that song somewhere stuck in piles of CDs...but i've only been listening to songs on the computer these days =P
and the song's Write a Song, but write a song for you right?
=)...i'm remembering better now...yea i really liked that
Hui Jia is good,

I totally fell in love with Shunza's voice when I heard "Hui Jia" but unfortunately, that's also the only Shunza's song that I like. Her style is totally different from what I like, and I'm sad. :( However, I really think that she has an impressive voice. It's almost angelic. It shouldn't be compared to Amei's because Amei's voice and style are different. Amei's voice is more powerful and sounds good with rock or songs that includes a lot of "yelling" and strong emotions. Shunza's voice is sweeter and is more suited to slow haunting songs that take your breath away. Anyhow, I think Shunza's voice is just amazing. Too bad I don't really like her songs that much. But I still think she's a great singer.
