Gackt - The Man with the Great Fashion and Hair

I love Gackt. He is not only fashionable, funny, but can sing and act as well. He has great style and a nice deep voice. Some people don't really understand him but he is just one funny, funny man. Many people find him weird or strange, but I think he is somewhat mocking certain aspects of Japanese society. I'm not going to get into it, but Gackt is one of the top 3 well known Japanese male celebrities in Japan.

He is also open minded and plays about a million instruments. He can speak some Mandarin and is friends with Wang Lee Hom among others. I watch his shows religiously and I really respect him as a person because in the homogenous society of Japan, he really is an individual.

Anyone like him? Hate him? Don't understand him?

I used to notice him back when he was with Malice Mizer. He is so damn pretty, like a porcelain doll. He's also one of my favourite fashion icon back then. But I like him most because I never know what's going on in his mind, which makes him all the more exciting.
But the strangest thing is, for a guy so bloody good looking, I actually don't have the hots for him. Possibly because he's so mysterious that I don't even know his gender preference. Remember all the dry-humping he used to give to the rest of the members of Malice Mizer?

I saw the Another World MV.The first time I noticed him was when I was looking at one of my japan magazines which was I think last year.I never saw him act before,but I really want to watch his movie with Hyde and Wong Lee Hom called "Moon Child".Looks good.

I find Gackt really mysterious too.It's actually werid that he wouldn't tell his age.He always says he's 456 years old or somewhere there.I remember watching a dating game he had to do with one of the members from morning musume.It's actually quite funny when the girl asks him his age.

I don't get any Japanese variety shows here, I think, I kinda stopped watching most tv programs recently. I like it that he's pretty open, which is rare in Japanese society. Especially since he's an idol and will have to upkeep his image.
Actually, I can hardly understand what he's saying most of the time. But the times I do understand, he's pretty funny. Darkly funny, deadpan expression, the kind of humour I like too. Of course, he might be telling the truth, I never know!
I didn't catch his MV, because ....well, did I mention the lack of Japanese variety shows? Also because I was traumatised by one of his earlier MVs with Malice Mizer, I think it was "Illuminati".

I just watched a concert clip of Gackt and some other people and other artists like Mana, if that's how you spell it. And i was disgusted. They where dressed in bondage clothes and leather straps and chains. And they were dressed like girls and "dry humping" each other while singing. It jsut sort of freaked me out... lol i was like. o.O.

Yay, it's about time Gackt got mentioned...I love him, especially his voice, it's so deep and emotional in his songs. Aside from his looks (and gorgeous is he!! I could sit here and drool for eternity) He does seem a bit mysterious, but that makes him more attractive in that sense. He seems to be that kind of strong willed person, he said that when he was younger, he hated the piano, but he still played it, just to prove that he could do it, and now he's great at it. He was one of the first few Jrock artists i ever listened to, and i think he's one of the best too, it's no doubt that he's one of the top artists in Japan.

No, Chun Li! I was supposed to upload that. :) I have all his music videos, all the Utaban clips (well, translated funny ones that are being mentioned here), and I have multiple lives of Domoto Bros INCLUDING the one with Vivan Hsu. His Chinese really is quite good, except when he said "Thank you". After you upload, I'll probably put up some stuff too.

Actually, he has the NICEST teeth. I downloaded a Domoto Bros. clip where he was playing ping pong to win a bottle of wine for this woman, and he showed his pearly whites. I was squealing about that smile for a week... Er, I'll have to upload that.

As for my favorite outfit and hair... I'd have to say that I'm a sucker for Gackt in a suit. I don't know why, but I love him in suits... For favorite hair, I'd have to say either Mizerable hair, his Wasurenai Kara hair, OR his semi-recent one in the Kimi ga Oikaketa Yume photobook. Yep.

BUT! If you're read the manga Hanakimi, one of the characters (named Himejima, I believe) was modeled after Gackt. In Hanakimi, Himejima is a gorgeous, long haired bishie who is very vain and randomly speaks German. Also, Umeda (a doctor in Hanakimi) can be seem using the cologne "Platinum Egoiste", which is the cologne Gackt wears.

I'm sorry this might be a little random, but... I have to say it. I just finished downloading Hoshi no Suna, and I have to say...

I love Gackt.

There are so many reasons to love this man, but the most important is his music. I'm so serious. Everyone here can say how much he acts weird, how strange he appears, how he shouldn't wear make-up, how he scares you, but in the end, it's such a small thing to complain about.

Listen to his music. You'll love it. I swear. Forget for a moment all the strange things that scare you. Just... listen to his music. It speaks for itself. It speaks for Gackt.

Sitting here, listening to him softly sing Hoshi no Suna, I get why people love him so. I get why he has fangirls screaming for him every where he goes. His music is just so superb. I was afraid that he had turned pop, that he was forgetting about all the beautiful music he made in the past.

Then, he comes up with these deep beautiful songs like Hoshi no Suna and Tsuki no Uta, and I'm blown away. Gackt is just wonderful.

In a good mood today cause it's Father's Day, so I'm on the nice side.

Gackt has one of the best voices in "Jpop" (Jmusic is better word, perhaps?). Lots of other artists have really thin voices, whereas Gackt's voice is deep and has more substance.

And as for Hyde being cooler - I give Hyde credit for his music and his voice. He has some interesting videos too. But as far as "COOL" goes, Gackt is definately cooler. Hyde is a different type of cool - he's not as outgoing in the public eye. I think Gackt totally redefined the "Kakkoii"/"Cool" defination.

Anyways, Hyde is in the Making of Moon Child video too. He's such an introvert sometimes! Gackt was going around learning all these languages and eating all kinds of different stuff, but Hyde kept more to himself. I think one of my favorite Hyde videos is Neo Universe. I love that song.

Hm, actually, L'Arc~en~Ciel was/is Visual Kei. Malice Mizer was probably one of the more extreme and don't even get me started on Shazna. And, even if L'Arc isn't technically visual kei, they've been categorized that before. *shrug* I don't follow up on L'Arc a whole lot.

And, don't worry about the 'get it' bit, nyemie. Akizuki is one of my closest friends and she's the one that listened to all my ranting about Gackt for months. She knows how defensive I can get when people say things about Gackt.

I do give Hyde credit since his songs aren't half bad (and he sings English a lot better than Gackt does), but... I prefer Gackt's voice. It's deeper, richer, smoother. Plus, Gackt is one funny funny man.

No bashing, but I recommend listening to some of his songs before you make a judgement. Much as Gackt would like us to focus on his looks (because he DOES look good), his music still far outshines whatever else he could do.

Moon Child was ...eh. I still have several issues with it (i.e. Hyde being a vampire and flying all willy-nilly), but yes, I was pretty impressed by Gackt's acting. He doesn't suck! It's INCREDIBLE. XDXDXD Actually, I like his acting in the beginning half of the movie better. Dork Gackt is much more believeable than overly dramatic "EVERYONE I LOVE IS DYING" Gackt. Yer.

And I have heard his new album. Is it just me or does the album sound a little too thrown together? I mean, the songs themselves are great, but I don't really like the order they're in. I haven't heard enough of Gackt to tell but so far I like what I hear, his voice is good...Vanilla, Last Song, Love Song, Secret Garden and Kimi No Tame Ni Dekiru Koto are my favourites so far! I feel another serious obsession blooming.

He seems like a very diverse person and sarcastic. I like his style while he pretends to be cool he's saying the funniest things and the way he tries not to laugh in those DOMOTO and Utaban interviews...lol.
Jrockers tend to go for the melodramatic don't they? I sorta feel like laughing whenever they strike any kind of over dramtic pose. It's just hilarious, I love it.

I don't understand how people think Gackt looks like a woman...it just doesn't make any sense to me. In all of vkdom (or ex-vkdom, I should say), he's probably one of the most masculine jrockers (aside from the guys from Luna Sea). But then again, I've seen many androgynous males in my life.

Some jrockers are melodramatic, but many aren't. I've realized that those who are melodramatic during interviews perform earnestly on stage whereas those who act psychotic on stage are pretty tame during interviews.

When i first saw a pic of him it seemed obvious that he's a man but I have some friends who don't know who he is, see the pics of Gackt and they'd assume that he's a girl. I'm surprised that they can see a girl when all I see is a guy.

If I were to rationalize it, I suppose it's hard to view things from a different point of view when you've lived with the same mindset for so long. When men should look like men and women look like women. For some it's still hard to accept androgynous looking males. When an idea is fixed into our minds it's hard to change it.
Though I know that Gackt is a man, he still looks feminine to me because I don't have that much exposure to many androgynous looking men.

Ok about MoonChild. I watched this movie when I hadn't even seen pictures of Gackt so I had no idea who Hyde or Gackt was and i still liked it. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Though the whole tortured vampire story has been done before, it had a slight difference when they integrated different morals, and messages into the story. It had it's overdramatic parts (especially towards the end) but it's still acceptable. :)

Oh, not at all. I completely agree that sometimes they're melodramatic, but then again, that's what's so fun about them. If you've ever seen backstage clips of MUCC, or their studio live of Daikirai...it's just...they're so crazy you have to love them.

Me and my friend are seriously considering petitioning him to stop making Juunigatsu songs. I mean, seriously, how many different ways could he possibly remix the thing before it gets annoying? I'm sorry this might be a little random, but... I have to say it. I just finished downloading Hoshi no Suna, and I have to say...

I love Gackt.

There are so many reasons to love this man, but the most important is his music. I'm so serious. Everyone here can say how much he acts weird, how strange he appears, how he shouldn't wear make-up, how he scares you, but in the end, it's such a small thing to complain about.

Listen to his music. You'll love it. I swear. Forget for a moment all the strange things that scare you. Just... listen to his music. It speaks for itself. It speaks for Gackt.

Sitting here, listening to him softly sing Hoshi no Suna, I get why people love him so. I get why he has fangirls screaming for him every where he goes. His music is just so superb. I was afraid that he had turned pop, that he was forgetting about all the beautiful music he made in the past.

Then, he comes up with these deep beautiful songs like Hoshi no Suna and Tsuki no Uta, and I'm blown away. Gackt is just wonderful.

Have you guys seen the movie of Hyde and Gackt, Moon Child? Have you heard of it? And most importantly of all, how do you feel about fans who like to indulge in GacktxHyde pairing?

I'm not sure if I answered this already, but Moon Child, from the perspective of a movie-goer, I'd say is pretty bad. The storyline is cliche, the acting (on the part of Hyde anyway) was not...good. The whole English/Chinese/Japanese thing just doesn't work and doesn't make any sense. And there are lots of questions that the movie tried to address (unsuccessfully), like that of why Son decided to stay with Mr. Chen. I mean, it's quite obvious that they were bullies rather than victims in Malapa...

I think the sole basis of GacktxHyde is that Gackt wants to leech off some of Hyde's youth.

Son is Leehom in the movie and Mr. Chen is the Taiwanese mobster boss that he protects. The movie itself isn't the greatest, but it amuses me. XD~ Seriously, dork!Gackt is funny. Especially when he's SKIPPING. Ahaha.

And about Gackt leeching off Hyde's youth. That may in fact be true. But the two don't seem to be hanging a lot a lot now that the Moon Child buzz is slowly dying, so maybe it's no longer true.

Okay, the one question on my mind is do you guys think Gackt would ever have a chance with Hyde if he wasn't married? It just cracks me up because I feel bad for Gackt. It's such a one-sided adoration sort of thing.

ok I've just recently got into Gackt and his music. I think it was eventual with all the mention of Gackt everywhere...I just figured I'd try out a few songs and I really liked what i heard. The first fansite i went to was linny's site Cube...it had a guide to Gackt section. Which was pretty helpful.

The first thing I found out from most Gackt fansites was how hilarious, sarcastic and dorky he acts. Then i dloaded some interviews, namely the translated Utaban ones and found out it was so true. Even in the non-translated interviews you could see that he was always getting the biggest laughs from the audience. Gackt gives me the impression that what he says during interviews has to be taken with a pinch of salt...

Favourite songs so far are Fragrance, Secret Garden, Vanilla, Kimi no tameni dekiru Koto. Fragrance if firmly my fav Gackt song.

About linny's question: I don't know about their history...but I don't think Hyde or Gackt would want a chance with each other. If Hyde were to miraculously change into a girl, maybe Gackt would have a go but that's not gonna happen.

I think they work well together as in the case of MoonChild and Orange no Taiyou. There seems to be a mutual admiration between them. They seem to be pretty good friends.

He's a natural dork then. I thought that clip of him falling was hilarious. He fell off the stage during allnightnippon show too...and got up and sang like nothing happened. I'm not sure if it's good showmanship or he's just used to it. I thought he was breathing quite heavily before he fell off the stage and after, he was practically having an asthma attack. It's amazing he still managed to sing at all.

Gackt's voice is one of the few voices I've heard which sounds as good live as in the studio. Eg. the hanashitakuwanai clip. No lip-syncing there.
Btw does Gackt ever lip-sync during lives?

It was probably ripped off the "making of" part of the MOON CHILD DVD set. Him, the girl who plays Yi Che, and the guy who plays his bodyguard (recall the scene from the movie where the black bodyguard tells the Gackt who is holding his daughter, "It's time, boss.") were watching a clip on TV or something. Then all of the sudden he turns to the black guy and goes, "Kiss me." And the girl laughs and claps her hands and says, "yeah, do it!" and the black guy's all like, "No!"

I think he will eventually, I mean, he can't live on one idea and keep on developing it. It'll be too redundant. I'm sure all his fans would rather he close the Moon project and start on a new one. I'm not quite sure how long the Moon project has been going on tho' but from what I've learnt it's been a few years.

Btw the 7th Night accoustic album is brilliant. It really highlights his wonderful vocals and composing skills. My favs would definitely be Mind Forest, kimi no tameni dekiru koto and last song. Not that the others are no less brilliant. :wink2:

Gackt doesn't actually crossdress half as much as people seem to think he does. Even when he was in Malice Mizer, he played the role of the prince, meaning for the majority of the time, he was dressed as a man (no matter how feminine he looked). And to be honest, I can only remember maybe a handful of photoshoots/instances where he crossdressed, and none that are very recent.

And people thinking Gackt is gay - it's actually an advantage for him that his sexuality is ambiguous. Yaoi fangirls love the mystery and the possibility that he's gay. In general, Japan is more accepting of sexual orientation than a lot of other places, so I guess it's not that big a deal. Oo.

And BE THANKFUL you don't understand his lyrics. He's a great musician, but his lyrics all have the same general line to them - at least, quite a few of the recent ones do. Even without translations, you can tell just by listening that he likes the word "dakishimete" and "kimi no/ga/etc."

As for Gackt vs. Miyavi, to each their own, I suppose? I like both of them, but for different reasons. I never could listen to Miyavi for a very long time, even though I love all his ADD tendencies and his crazy hair. XD~

I know everyone just LOVES Gackt's voice. But I still need a few moments to get used to his voice everytime I heard his new songs. Not that I didn't like his voice, but I need time to get used to it. Not everyday you heard a voice that is so thick and deep.

But then, I'm so used to Hyde's voice.

Right now I'm into Black Stone (reminds me of that band in Nana, Blast) and the all time faovurite, Vanilla.

Though I believe that the instrumentals for Black Stone sound similar to Another World if not exactly alike. But because of that, I like Black Stone. Lol, Gackt is really open on the Utaban episodes. They nicknamed him the "Pork Belly Aristocrat", which I found to be quite funny. Then there's the fact that he tries soo hard to do dead-pan humor, which I must applaude him for. If I tried to do it, I'd end up cracking up before I ended up saying what I wanted to say.

Have I mentioned I'm SO GLAD that the cornrolls + long curly extensions are gone? They freaked me out. I love the man, I think he's a beautiful human being, but sometimes, I think he has really bizarre fashion sense when it comes to his hair. And I don't know. It's weird thinking he's only 30 when he seems so old.

Redemption and Longing are very solid singles indeed. I don't know, I'm kind of sitting here waiting for the man to bust out an uncontrol or even a seki-ray. It feels like his music is heading more towards a flatter, more infused style, which works, but has a tendency to make his songs blur together. It was actually really hard for me to differentiate between Redemption and Longing because Longing felt like a faster, harder extension of Redemption. I guess I'm just waiting for that one rock song that will make me do a double take. o_o;

Ah my god...thank you soo much for saying that he took out the cornrows. When I first looked him up for information on his Redemption single, pictures of him with cornrows popped out and I almost died. They don't look good on him, I hope he doesn't give fans heart attacks (and the bad ones at that) like that again.
