There were reports yesterday stating that Jay was ban by Metro Radio, because Jay had gone back on his words, and would probably not win any awards in the upcoming Metro radio Award organised by the radio station. However, the station's programs supervisor, Zhu Ming-yue felt that there was a need to make certain clarifications.

Yesterday, Mr Zhu made a statement to the media, stating that the working relationship between Jay and Metro Radio is alive and well. The grievences had occured between Metro Station and Jay's Hong Kong distribution company, BMG HOng Kong, instead.

Describing the start of the problem, Mr Zhu said that Metro Station had contacted BMG Hong Kong, since the begining of this year, both through email and telephone calls, inviting Jay to grace the "Sing Good Music Concert", to be held in August this year, and perform on the concert. The details of the performances were discussed and confirmed. As this collaboration between the station and BMG is a non-commercial component, there was not need to have a written contract, and moreover, BMG Hong Kong had verbally agreed to the arrangement.

However, come June, the top management from BMG, Bobby, called Mr Zhu to inform him that Jay would be remaining in the US producing his ablum, and will not be able to come to Hong Kong as planned. By this time, Metro Station had already prepared and aired the trailers, and this caused great dissatisfaction amang the concert sponsors, and thus affecting the credibility of the station.

Complaining to BMG Hong Kong

Regarding this matter, Metro Station had made a written letter of complaint to BMG, expressing their dissatisfaction, however, the station did not recieve any reply from the company. Until July, Bobby called Mr Zhu again, this time to inform him that Jay is now available and will be able to attend the concert after all. This made created great problems for Metro station, who by now had arranged for other programs to replace Jay's segment.

As BMG realised they were in the wrong in this matter, so they agreed to arrange for Jay to appear in promotional events organised by the station on 13 Aug, and even offered to foot the bills for the event.

Mr Zhu emphasis that Metro will not ban Jay because of such matter, otherwise they would not have send Mr Gan Gou-liang to the specially to US to present Jay with an award, when Jay was unable to attend the award ceremony, organised by the station, held earlier this year.

As for upcoming awards ceremony, Mr Zhu welcomed Jay, and hoped he would come for the event. As for other news stating that Jacky Chueng and Faye Wong had not taken part in the awards, because they were afraid of losing, and thus creating great waves of dissatisfaction among Faye's fans on the web. Mr Zhu stressed that this was a mistake on their part, and offered an apology to Faye and her fans.

BMG Hong Kong's regional manager, Bobby, doesnt understand why the sudden interest in the matter, considering the matter had happen some time back. He also hinted that Metro had brought up this matter again to create more attention on their upcoming awards ceremony, and thus decline to make any comments regarding the matter.

As for Jay, he would be flying to the States for his US concert, right after attending the IFPI Awards ceremony, and therefore he will not be able to make it for the Metro Awards Ceremony. With regards to him attending other awards ceremonies, it will depend on his future schedules.

In my opinion, this seem like a big show to grab the media's attention, coz there are many awards ceremonies to be held during this time of the year....

Metro Blasts BMG

With regards to Jay being ban by the radio station Metro, the program supervisor, Mr Zhu, made a statement yesterday expressing his dissatisfaction with Jay's record label BMG. BMG'e response was,"If this is a form of promoting the award ceremony, sorry, no comments!"

In response to enquiries about Jay's misrepresentation, incurring the wrath of the station, and thus Jay wouldn't be recieving any wards from this ceremony, Mr Zhu stated, through the telephone interview yesterday, that it was only the top management and a member of BMG who are the ones not keeping their word, and not Jay.

Mr Zhu stated," I had contacted BMG's promotion department regarding the August's collaboration during the start of the year, and had even settled the lodging and airfare arrangements by March. I had sent out the email bid in April for sponsors, and had fulfilled the four-sponsors quota. Come June, I was then informed by the manager that due to delays in the new album, Jay had to postpone all his appointments. By then, I had already signed the contracts with the sponsors, thus causing me to lose credibility with my clients."

Mr Zhu further stated that the collaborations between the station and the record companies were usually without a formal contract, otherwise he could have brought legal charges against the company. BMG, in order to prevent negative publicity from the station, agreed to let them have the 13 Aug music event.

No Apology from BMG, Metro Dissatisfied

With regards to Jay not norminated for the 'Top 10 Highest Airplay Artistes' Mr Zhu clarified that Mandarin songs have always recieved lower airplay when compared with the Cantonese songs. Moreover, Jay had only one album this year, and thus there were fewer chances of being norminated. Lastly, he expressed his dissatisfaction with BMG, because the company had never made any apology or any explaination regarding this matter, this was not something a major record company should do. However, he stressed that his station would not discriminate other singers under the BMG label.

Mr Booby, BMG Hong Kong region manager, replied that,"That matter happened in August, why only until now did they bring it up? If this was to bring more promotions to their award ceremony, I am sorry, I cannot comment. I am totally willing to work with any radio station, seems like Chen Xiao Chun had already completed a radio play for Metro."

This matter leaves a bad taste in my mouth...... Both sides seems to be pointing the finger at each other....... Whoever in the wrong, why drag Jay into this matter??? This is office politics, nothing to do with Jay or his music....

Ugh. I know what you mean about the bad taste in the mouth. It just seems a bit pointless. I think they are just trying to promote their awards ceremony. Why else would they bring it up now?
