I <3 Anson Hu. What about YOU?

We have 3 of songs uploaded here by Hu Yan Bin (Anson Hu) called He Shang (Monk) and Xiao Go (Small Dog) and a duet with Elva called Jin Xing Shi. I downloaded them out of curiosity for this new singer and REALLY liked them.

He plays guitar and all of his music are so mellow. I wouldn't say his style is too much like Jay's, he's somewhat more R&B than Jay I'd say. I really like his voice too.. has a soulful feel to it. After Jay, he'd be my second favorite male Mandarin singer.


What about you guys? Would like to share more info about this new artist? I don't know much about him and all his sites are in Chinese.

his voice is great and his musical talent is undeniable

his looks...his only downfall i suppose

but listening to music doesn't exactly mean staring at a photograph...so yes...his music is cool

although you can still kinda distinguish it from the Taiwanese Style though..i think its really unique n cool how he adds certain Chinese touches to it...like er-hu (instrument) and i think i even heard zeng (instrument)...it could be very skilled and manipulated guitar sounds though

Yes, I can't say he's very good looking either. But Jay wasn't when he just started out (or I didn't think he was). So there's hope for Anson.


However, I think his English is his down side. When he tries to sing words of English like "sexy" (or is it even that? I can't tell w/ his accent) in Poison and that beginning phrase "Where are you going?" (I think) in Small Dog, it's pretty bad.

What is the meaning of comparing two different people. He've said he don't dare to talk or compare himself with Jay because Jay in his heart is suppose to be respected.

I think I might try to listen to him but waz up with him being a new Jay.

After Jay become famous there seems to be more and more new singers who would come and try to imitate Jay....like not being handsome and having talents. Well I don't have anything against Anson and I think he's quite talented, but Jay is Jay and there can never be anyone else who can replace or even imitate him unless if you make a clone of Jay.

As far as I'm concern those music companies are just trying to find some more people that have talents because of how they see the success of Jay.

AHH i love him! all of his songs are good. he's not getting as much attention as he should. it's hard to find any information on him. i just know he's only 18, composes, and writes lyrics

Yah, I saw this Anson guy in the last HK award shows....I think his english AND his looks are his downfall....not to be mean....his music's okay though....I like "Monk"...but I've been having trouble finding his mp3s...I heard a while ago that he's from Mainland China right? Something about how he's trying to follow Jay's path of success....ummm...I don't think so...actually, at first I was like "Dude...why is he copying Jay??"....haha...oh well....guess we gotta be openminded. :happy:

I have a clip from the HK's RTHK Top Ten Chinese Songs or whatever (don't remember the whole title)...Anson's in it for like 10 seconds when he was winning like Silver for Best Male Newcomer with Shawn Yu Man Lok. Jay's in it too.....he was the presenter of the awards...actually, come to think of it...maybe I should offer it as a Jay clip instead....since Jay's in most of it....

I really like Anson Hu too, his songs are not bad. His first song that I heard was "He Shang" (Monk?) and at first I thought it sounded a lot like Jay, but not really... :D He has a nice voice, though I don't really know what he looks like. But that doesn't really matter to me...

I have a couple of his songs too, but there are some that I haven't had a chance to hear or download...but I think the song I like by him the best so far would be "He Shang"...I'm also wondering if anyone knows anymore information about him...?

I don't really like Monk and Xiao Gou as much as Tell Me though.. Tell Me has this kind of nice mellow tune that sticks in your head and you know how to sing it after the first listen.
Is he really that bad looking? I'm not really sure how he looks like apart from those pics coldmetaljay posted up, but you can't really see him clearly there..

Anson is my 2nd favorite artist also! I have his album and in my opinion it is incredible. i havnt been this entusiastic about a debut album since i stumbled upon Jay, so i really recommend u check out sum of the mp3 uploaded. His voice is, dare i say, better than david tao's, and his style of music suits my taste perfectly (pure RnB)..

I just got the duet with anson and rain yesterday and i have to agree babygirl that how he really have a girly voice.....i let my other friends hear and they were like...."you sure this is a boy singing?" they don't even believe me when i told them he's 18. yeah, there are 2 version of the first album, it looked like he switch record company thats all.

as for the 2nd album,4147, one word sums it up for me, BORING! i didnt bother to listen to it again....and that is rare for me not to bother listen to an album at least couple times...

I thought Jing Xin Shi with Elva was a bit boring too but my sister is in love with that song.. and she usually doesn't like Asian music. I guess he appeals to a different audience.

The one thing that made me really like Anson was that soulfulness or authenticity in his voice like he was really singing what he felt, kind of like Jay (expect Jay is more). Anson's music is cool too, though I would say his songs are kind of boring, I still like him a lot.

Really? I think his voice is pretty distinct.. Like in his old album when he had a duet with William So, I could tell when Anson was singing and when William was. What I'm wondering though is why Anson prefers duet-ing with guys a lot since voice similiarity doesn't make the song any better than if he had just sung it himself.. I don't see the point..

I think both Anson and Ronald's voices sound the same except that Ronald is like a backup singer so I can only hear Anson' voice instead of Ronald's. Seems like he really likes duets.

It was from Anson's old album.. There was 2 versions of 1 song except the music was different, I think one of them was called "Poison" while the other "Love Before Time" and William So was in the "Love Before Time" one. =) When they sung the song together, I could tell which one was Anson.

just a little point to add.. i think anson is really cool..he might not be good-looking but he sure can sing well... i heard him over the radio the other day and the DJ was talking to him about music and he does know his stuff for a 19 year old.. and also he's really down-to-earth.. no airs about him at all.. i could tell that the DJ and him were having a nice time talking about music.. and further reason to like him is that he's born and bred in china!! meaning that he isn't just another one of those ABCs flooding the chinese market trying to squeeze money out of consumers (haha i dunno if i sound a bit brutal on ABC singers here) he said that he wants to represent the how the youths in shanghai are.. just like how jay is representive of the average taiwan youth.. really cool.. i'm liking him more and more

I think Anson's a talent.

Saw him perform at the Z-pop concert about a month ago and he's got very good vocal control. doesn't even sound like a newcomer. and his music's pretty good too.

I've heard some of his songs and seen some interviews. His attitude is quite nice doesn't have the Jay 'diaoness' but he seems like a nice guy, quite cheerful.

As for his music, i think it's really good. Liked them the moment I heard them. some of his songs remind me of David Tao. I'm not sure abt the names in English or which album it's from but i liked Xiang, Di Yi Xi and Jin Xing Shi.

i only got interested in anson cuz of the comparions made b/w him and jay. that's why i checked out some of his tracks. the duets are pretty nice, especially the one with elva. it's got a very catchy chorus. anyway, since he seems very musically gifted, not only in song-writing, but also with the ability to play a variety of instruments, i guess we can expect him at many future award shows considering he's still so young. he still has so much time to perfect his own style and venture into producing and stuff. i think it'd be so cool if anson collaborates with some other artists like jay, david, or leehom.

At least i know there's this guy..i like all his songs in the 2nd album<never knew he had 1st one>. He has a very nice voice,really....Is he that bad looking??? Never seen him before :cry:

although in the MV he looks so...i dunno how to said.. just.. his hair is too long i guess...
i like most of his songs.. but of coz Jay's the best in my mind...

I really don't understand the comparisons between him and Jay. I don't think they sound alike or look alike, comparisons between him and David Tao in terms of voice are more justified IMO. Like the song Du Yao, that sounds like it could be an early Tao song.

I got to say that his voice is one of the first ones I've stopped and noticed in a while. I love that thing he does with his voice where it's sort of deep and throaty, then he goes up a little and quivers a bit. haha, it's so cute
