OMG! I can't imagine after so long I've been in here (with a username laruku) I haven't noticed that there wasn't a laruku thread!
*bangs head against wall*
I repent. Therefore.. Here it is!!!! Woohoo!!!
Damn.. They are just great! After so many years of solo projects they still rock together! "Smile" was just so laruku style! I missed them terribly while they were gone though. But it's curious why they aren't on NHK Kouhaku* this year. Wonder why. I don't believe their album sales didn't make the cut. They are too popular and too missed to have poor album sales.. Lol...
*NHK Kouhaku is this competition kinda event that runs for 4 hours during New Year's eve (Dec 31) every year. Every year, singers are invited based on album sales and popularity (which is really related) Only for Johnny's artists they go by seniority as well, meaning as long as your senior is still singing, you will not get into Kouhaku. For example, Kinki Kids have never been on Kouhaku simply because SMAP is still around. It's only till this year when SMAP is not taking aprt that w-inds have the chance...
Anyway, back to topic.. Come on people! Let's show our love for laruku!!! ^^ :bleh:

Hopefully not. We still love to have Hyde, Tetsu, Ken, and Yuki make wonderful music together.

@kahel: Wow... a tour in Shanghai? That'd be awesome for all the people living around there ^_^ And ahh.. I hope they aren't going to be releasing any 'last' album soon... that'd be so sad
@laruku: *laughs* Perhaps you'll be able to see them in their tour in China, if the rumors are true -- besides, you don't have to be green with envy ^_^ It's easier for you to pop into Japan than if it was me. And anyhow, I wish I could live in Singapore ^_^ You can always travel to other places around you for fun trips (like go to Shanghai, Beijing... etc)... the states can be kinda boring sometimes :\ I also love the feeling of being submerged into an Asian community XD Something I miss very much in my everyday life

11-27-2004, 04:18 PM
That's pretty true I guess? But you get to have them come to you! Awww.. That is like awesome? Wahahah... I guess Singapore has one great point. We are pretty much in the centre-ish place so going overseas is pretty alright.. Price not that expensive too... ^^

sure. do you want the really ancient stuff or the new ones? I was looking at my l'arc files and I have more than 20 CDs. I swear my friend really tried to push me to hydeism. I have much respect though. Much respect.
You guys are Singapore are quite lucky because L'arc original stuff are sold there. here....*sighs* It' s more nonexistent than Jay's stuff.
btw, CDs can be sent to singapore right? I can always just label them as gift. :wink2:
I hope they got to shanghai too. It's much cheaper to go there. I'll give you guys a buzz if there are more news.

Hey, I am kinda new to J-rock, I just heard L'arcs older songs "Ready steady go" and was in love, I was wondering was/is there a l'arc thread cause I wanted to try and find some more of there songs...

MM! For any new fan, some must haves! (If you need any, tell me, I shall happily upload):
shinjitsu to gensou to
kasou
Niji
shinshoku -lose control-
HONEY
Driver's High
Heaven's Drive (I actually like this live more than the single, but it's still a kick ass song)
Dive to Blue
bravery
get out from the shell
I just thought I'd say, if anyone wants to watch that movie that Hyde played a role in, Kagen no Tsuki, it's now available with English subtitles at this bittorrent site (http://impact-media.me.uk/phptracker/). I have yet to watch it, but I'm excited!
I'm a bit sad. They seem to be rather quiet of late. What did everyone think of their latest single? I thought it was pretty normal... nothing spectacular, but the remake of Round and Round. OMG. SO MUCH LOVE FOR PUNK~EN~CIEL~!!! Aha. I thought the remake was a nice improvement to the old song. It's much stronger. <3
kahel
03-08-2005, 01:59 AM
I'll be more than willing to upload too. I just have to scan through my CDs again. >_<
Hopefully we can watch the young bishie Hiroki and Hyde on Kagen no Tsuki soon! I can't wait.

I actually like Neo Universe best. Maybe because of its amazing bass patterns? Although I still don't like Tetsu as much, I can't help but bow down to him for his amzing technique.
I heard PUNK~EN~CIEL was great too! But they are selling at SGD$40+ in Singapore. Which is about USD100++ That's an exhorbitant amount for a SINGLE! Gah.
And yeah, they are very quiet now. And I thought they'd be more active after being apart for 3 years and then back with a new album. They day they come to Singapore for a concert will be the day I strike lottery.. Hahaha.

I just realized that there's an L'arc~en~ciel thread here.
I'm also a fan of L'arc~en~ciel...But not too great as in following every updates of the band. I found out about the band when I was about 11 years old. I was starting to dig into J-pop but not J-rock that time. The first song of Laruku that I heard was Niji. I heard it in the radio and this DJ *always* put this on the radio everytime and he always proudly claimed that this is the best L'arc~en~ciel song ever! I ignored his claim that time because I was into Utada.
But I think he brainwashed me indirectly. About 3 years later, I was so bored with J-pop that I started to find more alternatives. I watched a lots of anime that time and I heard "4th Avenue Cafe" in Rurouni Kenshin. I fell in love with it and it reminded me of the reminiscence of Niji. So, since then, I hunted the album and I bought "Clicked Best 13" on cassete. Damn, I love that album so much! It's the only cassette that I keep among my CDs (I suppose to keep Ayumi's "A-Best" but I somehow threw it. :glug: ).
Well, since then...Love them to bits! I love Hyde's voice...very unique, with a rough voice but can reach multiple octaves & has a great falsetto! His solo album is good too. And the style of song is different from any other international rock-bands or J-rock band. :-)
And thanks for the "Smile" album on the Download thread, me back to L'arc~en~ciel again.
Guess this introduction is too long, eh? Hey all L'arc~en~ciel fans!

haha i will admit i just got into them, and i absoluetly love their stuff, but does someone wanna explain to me how L'arc en Ciel is laruku ?? o_o is it just some phenetical thing?
laruku
03-20-2005, 06:44 PM
Man, Alby stumped me for a while. I had to go do a search and I got the answer!
OK. As we all know, L'Arc~en~Ciel is the French name for rainbow right? However in Japanese their name is read/pronounced ラルク・アン・シエル (raruku an shieru). Katakana or something, courtesy of cats.. lol..
So yah... I THINK that's the reason it's nicknamed laruku.. But I'm not 100% sure though.. :shifty:
Got it from this (http://lists.musicbrainz.org/pipermail/musicbrainz-i18n/2004-December/000034.html) page....
JianDan[Ai]
03-21-2005, 04:13 AM
haha wow im very confused o_o but now i know arc en ciel is french =P ...kinda fruity name tho for a rock band tho dont u think? "rainbow?" hahaha
Funny how i found their music through anime =P I just finished watching all of Full Metal Alchemist, and I got the soundtrack, and thats how i found out about them... ^^
laruku
03-21-2005, 04:24 AM
Eheh.. Alby, there's more of their songs if you wanna DL. --> here (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10789)
The leader of the band, Tetsu, actually just got the inspiration for the band name from a French movie he saw way back in '90 i think. It's so random that it's amusing. The best thing is, they can't even pronounce their own name properly actually. Some fans can do better pronunciations. HAha.. Oh well... :shifty: And ya know what? They were VISUAL KEI in the beginning. How's THAT for a name as l'arc~en~ciel??
HarmonyCloud
03-21-2005, 10:23 PM
Oh I don't have any in particular, I know what I have heard I love!!!
Edit: Oh ya L'arc en ceil means rainbow but its kinda hard since japanese language...well lets just say hearing a japanese person speak french is quite amusing...I was kinda wondering where they managed to get that kind of name lol
Odium: De_Vangelis
03-22-2005, 02:34 AM
They were visual kei at the beginning? :glug: I never found the reason why they act like somewhat a visual kei. I guess I know now why they act somewhat like Visual Kei sometimes.
By the way, Laruku, for the first song in the "Smile" album...Shouldn't it be "Kuchizuke" rather than "Seppun"?

Eh? But I found from some places its "Seppun".. Let me check again. Ok. It's 'Seppun". I checked at CDJapan here (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KSCL-680).
Anyway, they weren't very extreme in their appearance. I think they gave up visual kei because their music wasn't suited to the image. I mean, compare them to Malice Mizer and XJapan. So different.
I've put up a picture of their VK days. I don't have anymore. Hehe... :
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/laruku1006/others/laruku005.jpg
p.s. The guy on the extreme right, wearing the black sleeveless top is Sakura. He's no longer with the band. He was caught for drug possession and so he left to do time I suppose and Yukihiro replaced him.

03-24-2005, 02:50 PM

But but but... I went to the official English site and what do I find? They are going to have their concert in July in SHANGHAI!!!!!!!! I can go!!! I mean, I don't know Japanese nor Korean so going to Japan would be like quite silly without tour guides... But I know chinese! I can go to Shanghai!!!!!!

OMGOMGOMGOMG DID YOU GUYS HEAR THE NEW L'ARC SONG? MORE IMPORTANTLY, DID YOU SEE THE NEW L'ARC PV?
The new single "New World" is posted in the Downloads & Links forum, I think. If you guys want to get it through BitTorrent, the song can be found here (http://mullemeck.serveftp.org/jps_beta/?page=details&id=2678) and THE PV is here (http://mullemeck.serveftp.org/jps_beta/?page=details&id=2712). The single is set for release April 6th, I believe. I'm quite surprised, actually. I didn't know they were coming out with a single.
I really like the dead green tint in this pv and it wasn't freaky like the last single (giant red faced sun ><), so yay for that. Hyde's hair looks like Miyavi's. O.o;; Tetsu and Ken look oh so shiny. <3333
I sort of wish they'd make a pv without computer graphics. And is it just me, or does anyone else sort of miss the ballads? I miss seeing PVs like Pieces.
WHICH REMINDS ME. For anyone who's seen the Pieces PV, can you please explain why Hyde decides to kill Tetsu of all people? We've tried to analyze this pv backwards and forwards but we still can't make sense out of why out of all the members, Hyde chooses to kill Tetsu.

I really enjoyed the new world MV or Pv...or well MV I am not sure whats a Pv @.@ Anyway, Hydes hair was intresting, I like his hair better on the english website...and I really wish Yukihiro would change his hair style cause ...I am not crazy about it (he looks like a girl ><..Think I said that before)
Hmm thats wierd that Hyde chooses Tetsu...maybe its an inside joke between the band??
laruku
03-30-2005, 01:33 PM
Sigh.. My Pieces PV is burned and kept in some obsure place. NAh. I am just too lazy to dig it out..
Anyway, PV & MV are the same. PV's just the japanese way of calling it. HAha..
Odium: De_Vangelis
03-31-2005, 11:56 AM
I used to think that PV is a 'Performance Video'. ie. live-performances on some TV programs, or live concerts. While MV is those common 'Music Video', as in videoclips. It got me confused for quite sometime. But since they are the same, I will follow with MV; because that's what it's originally called. Thanks for clearing that up. :-)
I also wonder...some of the people called Music Video as "MTV" (like: Have you seen Jay's latest MTV?). I was like, "huh? Jay has his own Music Television channel?" :glug:
HarmonyCloud
04-02-2005, 08:20 PM
LOL Same here Odium! at first I thought MV also had to do with MTV and I got soo confused for a while til finally I figured it all out...

During their first tour in 4 years (or something like that)
I saw their live performance at otakon in the usa (by dc).
We were so close, that we got wet when hyde started throwing his water bottles into the crowd (my friend's gf was hit on the head by one of these), while another friend caught one of their bananas.
Lol, tetsu wore a mask while making duck calls. or something like that ~ was kinda drunk at the time ~ partying with five hot japanese girls, who came just to see L'arc...well, its a lot of fun ;) .
laruku
05-08-2005, 04:45 AM
OMG! THEY HAD BANANAS AGAIN!?
When will they NOT have bananas.. -_- Oh Man. I remember one of my friends was watching some old concert video and Tet-chan was like pulling this banana out of his pants.. Crotch area... THAT was how they ALWAYS had bananas in EVERY single concert they have. Such.. nonsense.. -_-
KendoTiger
05-08-2005, 10:47 PM
Keke, it was hilarious.
Tetsu was like "Do you want some of my bananas?", and then started throwing them into the audience.
My friend had a dilema about what to do with it though. He stored it in his fridge for like, a month, took a whole rack of pictures of it, and then it passed into memory. He eventually ate it by accident. Lots of cussing soon followed.
JiaYi
05-10-2005, 06:23 AM
He ate the month old banana? Oh geez... hopefully he didn't have a stomach ache afterwards and at least he still has the rack of pictures to prove he did get Tetsu's bananas ::laughs::
KendoTiger: That wasn't Tetsu who wore the Dolphin mask. It was so definitely Ken ::laughs::

I really like this band, but all the websites I've found of them aren't updated too frequently, therefore I lack a lot of information. My favorite song by them is Niji. I could listen to that song all day! Especially, the part where Hideto is talking. Have any of you seen Hyde in Moonchild? Gackt and Wang Lee Hom are also in there.
Hey I found some quizzes on L' Arc en Ciel. I took one a while that compiled the following two into one, but I still thought I might post it if anyone is interested.

Cheat.... Laruku will never go to Indonesia. You know what in Indonesia there's a group name j-rocks. And they so so so copycat laruku. The voice, the look. I still get 'ohmygod' everytime see their MV. And their song also similar to Laruku. Me myself not a big fan of laruku but my sis love it so yeah she had a little influence to me. And my sis said that this j-rocks song is taking from several song of laruku and they combine it become one. Huh.....

hi
new member and big fan of L'arc, seen all the dvds cant get enough of hyde or the rest of L'arc. Ken in his pimping gear or Tetsu's big boots. Or what is yukki gonna do with his hair next lol. The music can go anywhere from delicate romantic-a(Those who saw Moon Child will get it) to hard hard rock. The range of different types of music is amazing. Which other jrock bands can't pull off as well as L'arc

Not a huge fan, but I listen to their music. Pretty nice I must say. Although I have to admit, it goes long miles to be able to compare with Jays =)

I think it's a bit difficult to compare Jay's music to L'arc's music. Jay is primarily pop/hip-hop, but L'arc is rock. Just plain rock.
I don't know - I think I have more respect for L'arc because hyde's voice has a much wider range than Jay's and the four of them put together have made many different styles of music. When you listen to a lot of their different songs and see how different each song sounds, it kind of makes Jay look like he's just scratching the surface as far as variety goes (which is perfectly okay since that's what Jay wants to do anyway).
In any case, has anyone gotten their hands on the new album yet? I think it's pretty good. I like SMILE a little better, but there are a lot of tracks on AWAKE that kick arse. I had AS ONE on repeat for quite a few days. @@;; <3

:jumps up and down with Harmony: I'm anxious to know too! You can't compare two different genres of music, because they each have something to offer, as with every j-rock band. They have been releasing singles over the past few months, so I'm glad that the album is finally out.

L'arc~en~Ciel = Love
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Hyde and Tetsu!! Both of them are SO great.
Upcoming CDs? Well Since I'm a big Fullmetal Alchemist fan, I know that the single LINK came out in around last year. The DVD AWAKE just came out in Hong Kong, I found two exact same DVDs of AWAKE in Hong Kong records one for $125 and another for $400. Hong Kong records just can't tell the difference :glug:
I absolutely the MTV for New World... it's just beautiful. Check it out on youtube...
Oh yeah and their website http://www.larc-en-ciel.com/

vanillaie123:: it was only $70 for a pair of tix.. so not too bad >.<
just got back from the concert^^ i hafta admit i'm more of a laruku fan than a hyde fan... his solo music is a little harder than what i prefer, but it's still a lot of fun live^^
it was a rather intimate venue, but still really crowded, and i'm really short so i didn't get to see much. It was very simple, nothing flashy... Hyde just pretty much rocked out the entire time, switching to acoustic guitar for a song.
He came over to my side towards the end, and lemme tell you, his is one beautiful man^^ and its weird cuz he doesn't sweat!! the guitarist and bassist were drenched and dripping, but hyde remained pretty much just dry and perfect. and i swear i locked eyes w/ him for a moment!! that was worth all the trouble of getting tix on ebay, getting yelled at by the box office, standing in line for 2 hrs, and getting scolded by security for trying to take pix (sorry guys, i was quite unsuccessful, i really wanted to be able to post some >.<)
He spoke in English the whole time (tho he didn't say much) and this one part he forgot the english word and paused looking confused and just skipped over it so that the sentence didn't make too much sense, of course making fans cheer like crazy for his cuteness^^
there's not too much to say, but that he's so cute and small and perfect^^

Sorry to disturb but anyone knows anything about a laruku concert in Bangkok???
I've heard about it but I'm not sure if it's a rumour & I couldn't find ANYTHING at all on it.. SIGH...

07-28-2006, 04:00 PM
Aahh... I kinda remember.
There was this voting poll on which Japanese artist they want to have concert there, I guess. They will invite (or maybe try to) the artiste with the highest vote to perform in Bangkok. (If I'm not mistaken, I vote for laruku, of course)
It was quite some time ago...
EDIT: It turns out to be some misunderstanding after all...

L'arc-en-ciel rocks! I first heard their songs in Rurouni Kenshin because I love that anime!
But I always wondered why they named the band that... Why it's in French and why Rainbow...

If I remembered correctly (memory's bad nowadays) Tetsu saw some french movie called l arc en ciel and decided it sounded cooll.. so yah la.
kinda crappy but oh well.. HHAAHAH..
But somehow I feel that their older albums rock more than the newer ones.. esp those after their 3-year hiatus.. AWAKE just didn't rock my world as much as HEART of HEAVENLY did... I mean their BEST songs were from older days.. like Niji, Neo Universe.

OMG has anyone heard their new single?? I didn't quite like it 100% cos SEVENTH HEAVEN isn't exactly the laruku kinda song. It's got a little bit more... electronics in it? It seems to me that yukkie has a bit more influence in this single. Considering Yukkie like to experiment with synthesized music.. LOL

Yay! *pulls out a flag* here here! L'arc en Ciel fan! I haven't heard their new songs yet. But I have everything up until the Smile album. Hyde is such a dream! He was my first love, and still is one of my favs. I just wish I could see them live someday. Grand Cross Tour was one of the best concerts I've seen. Any plans for Laruku to return to the U.S.?
