lena: well yea.. but by now i am completely SICK of wine. first of all the wines they let us taste is not even good. disgusting... the only good one was a sweet wine. well u know me, dont really drink dont like the taste of alcoholic stuff.... anyways, i just feel that here, the courses i dont really use my brains (unless it is accounting). but the rest is a bunch of memorization, no critical skills whatsover... sorta sad, especially studying s hard druing highschool, i feel it was all a waste.. and plus i dont even know if i want to one day GM of a hotel... ahhh.... career confusion....

vun: so.. what are u planning to do after college??

Lain Lang
11-19-2004, 12:42 AM
iny: before i have my usual talk with u, i wanna say that my mom came back from tw today and bought jay's QLX!! waa!! so happy!!!! yeah...i dont really like the taste of alcohol either...but wine is okay...at least! u need to drink jurupinga then..its so sweet! hahah ... r u mad?!?! all my classes are extension of my highschool...and its harder and tiring  ! lets exchange places for a while okay? i dont wanna use my brain anymore...i've used it to the limit (waaa... my limit is really low.. :bleh: ) and its going to explode! hahaha... dont worry iny! maybe later u'll use the knowlegde of highschool ! u wont feel that it was a waste! calculus is quite useful u know (not mine though).. :wink2:

we should talk about the latin coutries... dont u think?! i dont really know what to say...hahah...there're a lot of jay's fans here...i've seem quite a lot in the orkut...

Lena: I'll try my best to come here as much as I can, but I'm so busy with school work. I can't wait until this semester's over!

iny: Well... of course I'll find a job in my field after I graduate. In case you don't remember, my major is Student Affairs in Higher Education, so I'll be looking for an administrative position in a college or university. I'm interested in student activities and also international student services.

A big HI for you guys (lena, iny, vun)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW! that's cool!, now there's a second part for the thread :D. I hope everyone is OK! Since I haven't visited the thread I don't know what all of you have been up to!!! I just checked from the old thread that iny was talking something about stealing at his school ^_^, about rich and poor people  ?? and that lena was saying there were more men than girls in her school :glug: . And what about vun? From what I've seen... are you taking college classes :?

Well, I miss you so much!! And I promise to take pics of Jay for you :wink2: . I'm so excited!!! can't wait for the concert!!!!! :bleh:

By the way... i wanted to upload some Spanish songs into the Spanish songs threas, but I couldn't find it... weird, neither the Diegot Torres one... Does anyone know if both threads still exist or they were deleted??

vunsin: oh.. ok... that it actuall a pretty neat career u are following. sounds interesting. anyways. i am total clueless of what exactly i want to do. but i think after studying here, i plan on studying more. maybe in a university, big place, where i can be more independant.

lena: yea i know that u must be stressed. but i am paying so much here, as to NOT use my brain?? i feel i am getting dummer... but i think it is because it is the first semester, maybe it will get harder later. but man, i cant wait til the internship i hope i dont get shouted or scolded at everyday.. sorta scary...

dianilla : girl, where have u been? i never see you on msn. too busy studing huh? should be doing the same...yup, ppl steal at my college here, cant do nothing about it :worry: ...mmm. i dunno what really happened to the spanish sngs thread.. sorry

oh.. just updates on me. me and my two friends went to starbucks yesterday which btw is located in another city.. hahhaa... but it was worth it!!!! i love starbucks!!! we only came back like 2:40 in the morning... and when we were waiting at the train station this drunk guy came up to us and started asking questions. my friend talked to him in english while we pretended not to understand anything.. hahahaha... anyways... wierd and scary experiences...

11-21-2004, 11:34 PM
dianilla: You're back! :excited: Well... I thought you know... I'm a graduate student. About the thread, I think there are some date options you can choose at the bottom of each forum to display older threads. The thread should still be there, but you probably can't see it now because nobody has posted there for a while.

iny: Do they have career exploration tests at your school?

Lena: Erm... it's better that you not mention things I've talked about in DK in here. There's a reason I'm not posting them in the public forum, you know.

iny
11-22-2004, 09:54 AM
vunsin : actually, not there are no career exploration tests here. since it is a really specialized college, most of the ppl here know that they are going to follow the hospitality industring segment. so.. hard for me. anyways. just wait and see...

lena: oh yea. i do remember the time we went to starbucks in taiwayn. so fun!! i am gonna go there everyday if i can. starbucks rules!! too bad we dont have it back in brazil.. wua... but that time in starbucks was my first time ever.. hehehe.... maybe i will go again this week. the only problem, is that it is really expensive maaaan.. :shifty: but worth it...

vunsin
11-23-2004, 07:19 PM

At least i'll be able to visit the forum more often :wink2: .

Oh, talking about Starbucks. When i went back to Peru last summer, i found out that there were 2 starbucks  . I know that it's expensive, but it's worth it if you don't go too often  .

Lain Lang
11-25-2004, 03:37 PM

vunsin
11-26-2004, 08:03 AM

vunsin
11-29-2004, 12:14 AM

iny
11-29-2004, 10:12 AM

lena: burguer king in brasil??!!!nooo waaay.. u know it is cheaper than McD...cool.. i wish they would open starbucks!!! hahaa.... i am going to taipei soon.. lena, u want anything?? meeeu.. to com mts saudades de vc....!!! saudades ta comecando a bater ja q tenho q comecar a arrumar as malas... me lembra qdo tava saindo do brasil 6 meses atras... still cant believe i survived 6 months... dunno, this dream of living abroad seemed so distant, and now, i sorta did it... feels wierd... hehe.. anyways.. still very happy!! :-)

at least i'm not working for free, i'll get some money AND jay chou's book!!! :excited:

Hi girls! hmmm... when was the last time i posted here? hmmm... like a month ago...? ^_^; sorry for that. I've seen lena a couple of times on msn, though :P

As I have said a long time ago... i went to jay's concert. i did have a great time. I even met one of j-c.net member at the concert and another one on the bus going home. I uploaded some of jay's videos I recorded with my digital camera. If you gals want some videos and pics, just let me know and i will post the links or send it directly to your email address ^_^

Hmmm... what else? i've been so out-of-date in this forum that i don't know how all of you are doing? Well i didn't know that Lena was working :O, and it seems iny is working hard in her internship ^_^ and what about you vun? studying right?

I've had a busy winter "break"... it's unbelievable that time passes so fast... I'm starting classes this friday -___-... Well, I spent a not-so-exciting new year... doing nothing, but playing Gunbound with my bf hahaha while my sister in peru went to celebrate it at the beach >< i'm so envy of her... I didn't even eat my twelve grapes as tradition, or wear any yellow underwear :'( Then, I spent a wonderful week because my bf came to visit me from Toronto :). We had such a great time. After that... I've been spending 10 days at home practising for the TOEFL test -__-... it's a long story... The thing is that in order to transfer to another university (UB) they ask you for your TOEFL score if you're an international student, but you can be waived of the TOEFL if you have taken at least 2 english composition classes. The thing is... i've taken an english compostion class and an ESL class. I even asked them if I was waived of the TOEFL by telling my situation. they said it was ok... but then, when they received my transcript they told me I completed only one english composition class and ESL was not considered as an english composition class -____- So I was angry as hell cuz they were telling me different things... so... after calling the university and discussing about my situation I ended up with no choice but either retaking the TOEFL cuz my TOEFL score had expired or taking another english composition class... I chose the first choice cuz it'd faster to proceed my score while taking another class (even though i'd gain credit) i wouldn't be able to send them my grade on time... and therefore, i may lose the chance to get into the university for fall 2005.

And that's not all. I also applied to another university (FIT). And in this one, i have to present a portfolio interview and do some kind of home test. The thing is that the school sent all portfolio and home test information to my address in Peru -____- when I'd written clearly MY US ADDRESS on the MAILING ADDRESS of the application. i had to contact them and tell them to send all information to MY US ADDRESS and oh gosh... practically, i've wasted a lot time for preparing my portfolio and doing the home test... the good thing is that they give you many days for the portfolio interview and because of my situation i chose one of the last ones that'll be held on february 28... But it's supposed to go to the earliest ones cuz you'll have more chance to be accepted... anyway... i don't even think i can go into that one cuz it's very hard to get into it unless your drawing skill and creativity is really but really good!... anyway, i'll try my best ^_^;

Have you heard of the snowstorm in the northeastern of the us? it's horrible... yesterday, coming back from my chinese class... i could hardly walk haha cuz of the snow T_________T and it's freezing cold right here... i wish i could be in south america :P you lucky lena oh by the way, my mom, my sister, and my aunt went to Argentina and also to Brasil, i guess to Rio de Janeiro. I'm not sure about it. but i told them to buy something for me >=)

Haha, I've written a lot for today :P. I don't have anything to do right now, and since i miss you girls here i am... writing to you! ^_^

dianilla!!! :excited: You're back!

Well... I went on a fun road trip during the break and now I'm back in school. This is the third week already. I'm so busy now!

Anyhow, I didn't know you have to retake TOEFL to transfer to another school. I thought if you're already enrolled in a university in the US, you don't have to "prove" you know English anymore. :hmm: I didn't even have to take any English proficiency test to apply to university here. I transferred from a college in Malaysia.

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with your applications. I hope things will work out for you eventually!

Yes, the snowstorm. My Taekwondo class was cancelled yesterday and so was my shift at the restaurant. And it's still pretty cold outside. Around 0 degree Fahrenheit, I think.

And please do send me the videos and pix! Please send them to my email: <vunsin@hotmail.com> Thank you in advance! :flowers:

Hi gals!!! How are you doing? I started classes today x_x. I'm kind of sad cuz I didn't really enjoy my vacations and it's time to study >.<, but on the other side, i'm glad to go back to school cuz i could see a lot friends today :). I miss them so much ^_^.

I dunno if you can help me with an essay i have to write for the department of Architecture of University at Buffalo. They asked me to select a quote or statement that reflects all my thoughts about Architecture. So, I chose a quote from Goethe and it says "Architecture is frozen music". Does anyone would like to give an opinion of what it means? I'd really appreciate it :)

dianilla: Thanks for the email! :flowers: Sorry I haven't responded to it and thank you properly. I've been so busy the past few weeks. I should download the files before the links dies. Eh... I don't know much about architecture. But to me, the quote talks about capturing a beautiful moment.

omg.. internet sucks here.. and my uncles laptop also sucks, i swear i had already posted here before and when i come back it wasnt there.. ahhhh...

so.. mm... i have no new things to say.. haha.. except that i am watching the drama MARS now and am completely obsessed with it!!! hahaha.. zai zai looks so hot with his long hair. hahaha... only thing which i look forward to when i wake up everyday... internship?? yea i guess its ok, dont like it very much, but i mean its work right? hehehe.. and plus nobody likes the boss, including me, she is so arrogant, like she is above everyone. so scared of her!!!! hehehe...

Vun: u are always busy!!! such an active person! hehe. dont get too stressed!! oh yea, u probably have heard lee hom's new album right!! it rules... two new mvs already came out.. if a vcd comes out with his mv i will definately buy!

Dianilla: sorry, i am clueless about architecture. mm, but from what i interpreted from the quote is that just as music can touch ur heart, can cheer u up or make u reminiscence about the past, architecture can also. and it is even more concrete and solid (from the word "frozen"--static of the quote)... mmm.. i dunno if this helps or if its just stupid, been a while i analyze quotes.. hehe...

iny: I don't think it's your uncle's computer. I think sometimes the server/forum/something does that to our posts. It's only happened to me once though. I can't wait to buy Lee Hom's MVs! I'm going home (Malaysia) for about a month end of April and hopefully I can buy CDs and stuffs at a cheaper price there!

Thank you so much for your comments about the quote. They'll really help me :)

I'm going to be quick :P I'm writing from my school right now. I'm working as a lab monitor in the EDM deparment (Electronic Design & Multimedia) every friday from 9am to 12pm. Although I don't get paid, I think it's nice to gain some experience :P Basically, what I have to do is help students to print their works and help them if they have any problem using a program (haha hope they don't ask me cuz I don't know either LOL :bleh: ) It's so difficult getting used to a Mac... You don't have any idea how many times I've been writing this post... Just pray that this time it's going to be OK

By the way, I received my TOEFL score a couple of days ago and guess what? I got 273/300 woohoo!!! :excited: I'm so happy for that :)

That's it for now... I guess :bleh: Take care!!

I thought TOEFL scores are over 600? :hmm: Do they have a new way of doing it? Anyhow, congratulations.

 Macs are actually quite nice once you get used to them. They look so much cooler too!

There are two ways to take the TOEFL. One is based on paper, and the other one on computer. The maximum score for the paper-based TOEFL is 677 i guess, but for the computer it is 300. The essay score is the same for both: 6. Nowadays, almost everybody takes the one based on computer  and the essay can be typed in the computer or handwritten. I chose to do it in the computer cuz it'll be faster to get the results :bleh:

I took TOEFL years ago. Like in 1995. I also took the British version of English proficiency test, the "1119," also called 'A Level' English. I guess I just like taking language proficiency tests. They're so fun! People think I'm crazy.

So how are things, dianilla? Which schools have you applied to again?

dianilla
02-09-2005, 12:07 AM
Haha I've never heard of the "1119" test :S I only knew about the FCE hahaha. Which one was more difficult? I know that the TOEFL test is going to be differente starting in september. There is going to be a speaking section too! They are going to give you a statement and you have like 15 seconds to think about your answer and 45 seconds to record it. that's crazy :s
vunsin I wonder what other language tests have you taken?

I applied to UB (SUNY-university at Buffalo) and FIT (SUNY-Fashion Institute of Technology) Getting into FIT is gonna be soooo hard... there're more competition, that's why they made things harder... and i have to present a portfolio and do a home test... crazy :S

dianilla: i also took the toefl one year ago..man, i remember applying to colges and stuff, so tiring... even if i already thought about changing schools now, i dont think i would just cuz i really dont have the energy to go through the application process again.... hhahaha... u go girl!!!!! really hope u get into the one u want!!!!! BEST LUCK IN THE WORLD!!

and.. HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!!! :excited: I'm so excited today! I came to work as usual and found my office nicely decorated! There are banners with Chinese greetings all around the door, fishes and lanterns on my wall and ceiling, and gifts on my desk! Everyone in my office contributed! There's even some sort of prosperity flower from my boss (I don't even know what it is, but I just acted like I do  ). And everyone (except for me :shy: ) is wearing red. Well... that's a good distraction from all the unhappy things!

dianilla: 1119 focuses mostly on writing, I think. I don't even remember anymore. It's been quite a while! I heard 1119 was supposed to be more difficult. And your scores won't expire. I've never actually taken any other language tests officially, but I've taken many unofficially as practice.

iny: I look forward to the pictures! :wink2:

Oh!!! HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!! xD (vunsin, I like your banner and avatar xD)

Hmmm... today, i just sent the essay about architecture and the letter of recomendation to UB. I hope i'll get into it T___T.
Today, when i arrived school, everyone was greeting me: "happy chinese new year" and then... "where's my red envelope" and i was like... -.-" "i'm not even married" hahaha they were just kidding.

In my classical mythology class, we saw a movie from 1956 :O it was called "helen of troy" and it was TOTALLY different from The Illiad But still, it was funny to see how "well" the actors were acting xD it was so... "exaggerated".

vunsin, I haven't worn anything red today. But, does my pink coat count?

 People who don't know about Chinese New Year got all confused today when others wished me Happy New Year. And then most people got confused about my being Chinese, because they knew I was from Malaysia, but they didn't know that there were Chinese in Malaysia. Anyhow, I'm touched that my colleagues did so much research on this to do everything "right" according to the Chinese custom! My office looks like such a happy place now.

Vun: that's so cute!!! I just tell about the chinese new year to my ch friends...
iny: Just wanna say that I really miss you!!!! I really really do!! Hahaha...we didnt go out much, but I miss a good friend!!!
Hum...let's see!! i don't really remember when was the last time I post, but I think I was still working at my aunt's store! Well, I stopped to work on Jan, 28th! Enjoyed a few days of my summer vacation, but I start to work again as volunteer for a Congress! This congress was for all Hakka of America and there were a few people of Taiwan! It was kind of nice cause I could practise my chinese and a little bit of english! Most of the tourists were quite old like 50... but they were alll really nice!! I loved them! I took them to visit a little bit of Sao Paulo, went to pick them at the airport and helped during the real Congress (there were a few days for them to travel around Brazil!), it was really tiring...and I'd to meet people I don't like... it had misunderstandings...gosh! But in the end..it all went well... I guess!
Hope everyone is fine....I'll hav to say hi on DK too...

vunsin
02-23-2005, 01:54 AM

vunsin
02-23-2005, 06:49 PM

Lain Lang

hahaha... I only read about Jay and Patty this morning...wow!

vunsin
02-24-2005, 04:30 AM
I don't go snowboarding that often, so I just rent the equipments. They're around $50-$60. I usually can only afford to go once a year. If I get my own snowboard, it'll be at least $200.

Lain Lang

Kungfu? Are you talking about wushu? Kungfu is kind of broad. Doesn't that include everything (martial arts)?

Lain Lang
03-03-2005, 01:00 AM
hum... I don't know vun!! My teacher says kungfu... I guess... and on the clothes is written kung fu too! Well, and I'm just starting!

03-03-2005, 08:04 AM
Maybe you can just ask your teacher? I don't know... I'm not familiar with Chinese martial arts either. I mean, I'm not sure how many kinds there are and what "kungfu" really includes or is a part of. I only know for sure there's wushu and it's a type of Chinese martial arts orignated from Shaolin.

Lain Lang
03-04-2005, 01:03 AM

vunsin

vunsin
03-08-2005, 05:30 PM

instead of :"Are you practising Taekwondo for self defense?"

Lain Lang

Some Asian parents are overly protective of their kids, especially their daughters!

Hi girls! Long time not visiting the forums. Wow! I miss you a lot, it's been like almost two months since i haven't posted anything... oh that's bad >.<

Hmmm... I've been trying to catch up with everything you've posted so far.
Let me see, where should i begin?... Oh, yeah, about se7en and 1tym. I have the songs though. if anyone wants it i can send it to you. But, i would recommend you to go to: www.asianmusicnetwork.com, sign up for it and then you'll be able to download music. They have almost everything about chinese, japanese and especially korean music. So, go and try it... hehe i've downloaded a lot of songs from there, and i think it's faster than downloading from j-c.net forum and you don't have to request anything because you'll practically find what you desire.

I agree with you about Bi's voice. Very sexy...

I still haven't finished school. But finals started today and i have 2 finals plus my photography presentation on monday.

Well, now... something that i'd like to share with you gals... yesterday i found out that my grandma in peru passed away... Oh god! i've never experiended something like that before and it really feels awful. My mom even wanted me to go back to Peru for two days to attend the mass and bury ceremony and then come back to NYC to take my finals. I also wanted to do that, but after analysing the situation, i don't think it is convenient becuase i think being there is going to affect me more than now... and i won't be able to concentrate on my studies when i'm coming back. besides, i wouldn't have time to study...
Today, even i was not feeling that well, i went to school to finish my photography project. i think keeping myself busy did me some good because i didn't have to keep thinking about what happened and i didn't want to feel depressed as i was last night... i think i still need to go on with my normal life even though i've already lost a loved one.

Hope everyone is doing fine.

OMG... This is my first login after.... more than two months? I feel so disoriented. I've been wanting to come here for the longest time, but unfortunately, it just didn't work out. First, there was the problem with my computer. And after I fixed it, I didn't have internet connection anymore. I was also on leave (from work) for two months and couldn't use the computer in my office (which I'm using now). And then when I went home, I barely had enough time to meet everybody. Now I'm finally back in the U.S. I still haven't set up my own computer yet. Before I left, it was acting strangely. I didn't have time to figure out what was wrong. Hopefully, it isn't too serious of a problem.

A lot has happened since I last came here. I don't even know where to start! I guess I'll just take things slowly. I'm still a little overwhelmed...

Hi Pao-pao! Welcome to the Latin American thread!

I haven't checked this forum for so long... This thread was almost dead. I'm glad you made a post ^.^. My name is Diana and I'm from Lima, Peru. I'm 20 and I'm currently studying in Buffalo, NY. My major is architecture. I hope we can get to know each other better. It's always nice to make friends around the world especially someone from the same continent!

Hi Diana...nice to meet you...yeah this thread was like dead cuz I haven't get any response from it hehe...well I'm 21 and I live in Venezuela, I'm studying Chemical Engineering and this is my senior year so I'm doing my thesis now...Lima? nice...we're so close haha closer than the rest in here...the friends I know from this forum are from, Bulgaria, Texas, Washington and Canada...no one from latin america...so did you win a scholarship or something? it's great that you're living in Buffalo right now...well I'll add you to my msn list so I hope to chat with you soon...see ya!!!

dianilla
03-27-2007, 07:50 AM
Hi Pao-Pao. Thanks for adding me to your msn list. That'd be a good way to get to know each other. I didn't get a scholarship or anything like that although I wish I did... I'm supposed to be junior according to my credits, but I'm sophomore in this school, University at Buffalo. Before coming to Buffalo, I was studying in NYC for 2 years. Living and studying NYC was awesome, but I was in the architecture program waiting list for 2 years so I couldn't wait more... and decided to transfer here. Living in Buffalo is not as excited as living in NYC but school keeps me so busy now that I'm taking my major courses that I cannot even have time for myself and explore what this city has to offer. It seems that these couple of days I wasn't as busy as usual, but I know I'll be for next week @_@. Oh well, hope to get some time to chat with you or I'll at least try to drop by here some time. Take care!

Pao-Pao

O.o Diana you really seem busy girl...don't worry hon...we can chat at msn or when you have time...school comes first!!...I'm busy too...When I have free time I always sleep or just rest....sometimes (well at least 1 time a day) I post in the forum hehe...yeah I guess Bufallo isn't that great as NYC but hey I'll kill for living there...gosh that's my dream...I wanna work in USA or Canada...or Australia...I'm thinking about it and maybe when I get my diploma I will...but you were born there? why are you living there right now?...so tell me how did you know Jay?? haha lol...and are you chinese, japanese, viet?...see ya sweetie and good luck with everything and remember to rest every now and then...it's good for your body, mind and soul.

dianilla
04-11-2007, 01:05 AM
No, I was born in here. I was born in Lima and came here just to study. My parents are chinese, so I can say I'm pbc? (peruvian born chinese? LOL). How about you?

I still remember I was still in high school (I think it was my senior year) when my friend told me about this Chinese singer [Jay] whose music was very cool... So i decided to download one of his songs and omg! I became so addicted to Jay's music! It was totally a new experience cuz I wasn't used to listen to Asian music except for those old-days songs my dad used to play in his car lol.
So it's been almost like 5 years since I've been Jay's fan. I used to come to this website more often, but college kept me really busy...

I wish I could rest right now, but finals week is coming soon and I have so many assignments to do... OMG! I feel I wanna die... Architecture = architorture... T^T

Pao-Pao
04-11-2007, 03:12 AM
aww Diana don't worry...just relax...take a deep breath and just keep going...soon you'll finish with all the finals...haha Architecture = architorture lol....I'm busy too...I used to come here a lot but now I'm working on my thesis, I told you that, and I don't have enough time but I still post every now and then...if my friends read this will call me crazy cuz at least I post once a day haha.

peruvian born chinese? nice! well I'm not chinese...I was born in Venezuela and I'm still here...but when I get my diploma I wanna move somewhere else...I don't see my life here...this isn't the country for me...I wanna to accomplish so much and Venezuela right now isn't the best place for that...haha probably you're thinking "how did she met Jay?" lol...I have five friends who live in China and one of them told me about Jay’s music like 7 month ago so I listened Ye Qu and that was it haha I’m in love with him since then…he’s amazing…I feel so bad cuz I met him so late but hey now I’m a fan and I’m so into asian music right now cuz of him + I’m learning mando now and it’s so cool.

Diana do you have “my space”?? I do…you can see mine if you go to my profile…BTW I haven’t been on line on msn, I was like addicted 3 months ago now it gets bored!! Lol

Take care girl and good luck with the finals!! you can do it!! lots of kisses!!

dianilla
04-14-2007, 05:31 AM
Now I see. I thought you were asian but born in Venezuela just like me. Guess I was wrong. I'm glad that you are into asian music. It's so different from latin music. When I'm tired of listening spanish music, I'll just switch into asian or viceversa xD.

I wonder if you like anime. There is this anime called "Death Note". I don't know if you've heard of it before, but it's pretty cool. There's a website where you can download all the episodes with English subtitles.

About moving somewhere else, I think the reason I came to study here was to get better future and also, there are more opportunities in the US than in Peru. I think you know what I mean because we both come from South America and you know how the political and economic situation is... It's very hard to find a job in Peru and if you do, the salary is very low *sigh*. If it wasn't because of that I wouldn't have come here in the first place. I miss my family and friends so much!

I don't have "myspace" though, but I have Hi5 and facebook. I haven't been online on msn either... I don't think I will until summer vacations lol. Hope you do well in your thesis ;)

Pao-Pao
04-15-2007, 06:21 AM
I love asian music right now...although I know only a few artists...I don't like spanish music...I think the only singers I like are Shakira and Ricardo Arjona...the rest mmm I just don't like them...or maybe just a song or two haha.

Well I don't like anime...honestly I've never watch one, I don't know why...maybe cuz I wasn't into asian things until last Dec...but I'll check that link for sure...all my asian friends are so into anime lately....you like it right?? haha cool...well the only asian cartoons I've watched over the years are Candy Candy (I love Candy haha lmao) and Pokemon haha but just a lil...I don't know if those kinda cartoons are anime but I know they're asian lol

I know what you mean...that's what I feel too...Venezuela has so many problems right now...problems of all kind and that's just wrong...Venezuela is such a beautiful country with so much to offer but now with this f***** "president" Venezuela sucks...we're not talking about politics...but hey that's the reason why I wanna move too...There aren't any kinda opportunities here...so I wanna do what I love in a place where I can have the benefits I want...let's face it, we came from a third wolrd country...I really love mine, I'm in love with it but I'm realistic...I can't live here anymore...maybe someday I'll have the chance to move and to have the kinda life I wanna have.

I'm so bored...I haven't used msn in such a long time and now my friends are worry cuz I used to get on line all day long....Now I'm using skype...and I met this really french guy who's doing an intership here in Venezuela, in Caracas, and now I talk to him using skype.

See ya girl!!!....BTW when your vacations are gonna start??...thanks it's doing great so far.

You seems young Pao...how old are you?
Well... Brazil isn't like a nice country either...but it's my home...it's really hard to earn money here... politics are all corrupt... it kind of sucks...i really wish I could make a difference here, but it's hard... although I still have hope that I do! You should think like that sometimes!
But if you do go outside...which is not a bad idea... where will you go? spanish is really useful...and you know english as well!
I'm almost finishing college... environmental engineering and working as a trainee in a company...

Environmental engineering is really nice too...My ex bf is studying that right now, he lives in Kansas now...we broke up in 2000cuz he moved to USA but we're still good friends...don't worry, you'll graduate sooner than you think...aren't you excited?? cuz I am...I can't believe it...when I was 15 I thought that the day when I turn 22 was so so so far away...you know in the future..now I'm 22 and I'm an engineer!! that's so awsome...I feel so proud of myself

I like I'm not ok, Helena, Ghost of you...they have so many good songs...and the new album is great too...I'm a rocker/puncker...and I did an exception with Jay...haha he's apop singer but I LOVE HIM!!!!

Hello gals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LONNNNNG TIME NO SEE, right? xD *big hugas to everybody* Well, let me tell you today was my last day of class which i'm GLAD! But now, finals are coming soon, so need to be prepared. Also I need to do this stupid portfolio for my architecture class... and let me tell you I didn't finish my model for my final review >_<. Anyways, I need to spend this weekend finishing everything I couldn't do it last week.

Wow, Lena! you haven't come here for so long. Haha, I was surprised to see you here xD. I've been reading what you guys posted and let's face it... most of the latin american countries have corrupt presidents... we cannot help it. Each country we come from has the same problem: poverty. I think this is the main reason why our countries are just how they are... People without education lead to ignorant people, who then get easily fooled by corrupt presidents, in which the latter just tricked people with fake promises.

Pao-Pao is learning mandarin... omg. i feel dumb now! haha I took some mandarin before but I've already forgotten everything I learned! >_< It's just hard when you stop practising and barely used it... T^T

Pao-Pao, I do like latin music. It's just funny that I didn't like it that much when I was in Peru. I used to listen English/American songs... but when I came here, I switched to latin. And also, I was really into asian music because that was around the time I knew about Jay ^_^. I still like asian but guess not as much as before... There was one time when I was really crazy about chinese (mandarin) music, then it was jap, thennnn it was korean and now I think back to jap. I love m-flo!

About Latin music.... hmmm... I used to like Shakira before she was "americanized"... her old albums were pretty good. I think my favorite is Diego Torres!!!!!!!!!!!! and Kudai (a Chilean pop/rock group) I like songs like "vallenato" style, like the ones that you can listen but you can also dance ^_^ I think Bacilos is another of my all time favorites.

Well, have to do some internet research about bridges. Yes... I have to build a bridge for my structures class argh~ This project is just a waste of time! I need to work on portfolioooooooo ahhhhhh!!! Lol... sorry... I went crazy!

Take care girls, and hope I'll visit the forum soon ^_^

awww Diana I've missed you a lot!! but Lena was here so it was ok...I forgave you for leaving me alone haha :D ...yup mandarin is hard and specially when you used to study it and suddenly stops...you should try again so we can talk in mando someday....I don't really like latin music, I told you once I think...but I really do like Shakira's songs...she's great....and you're right, her old albums were better than the new ones...she's a lil commercial for me right now but hey she's latina and I just feel so proud...she's so famous and she's very talented so good for her!...mmm I don't like Bacilos and of course I know Kudai...they're great...I don't love them but I do like some songs...I didn't know they were from Chile...but hey the burnette girl is from Ecuador right?.

O.o you're busy!! sorry to hear that but hey you take the finals and that's it...SUMMER TIME!!! so don't worry....a bridge?? wow sounds difficult...I love the word portfolio haha sounds so interesting.

Have fun doing your pojects...take care and see ya soon girl!!! lots of love!!
:wink2:

Guys I think you don't know me yet...ok this is me...and yes that poster is from The Curse of the Golden Flower...I was suppose to see it today but I got late so maybe on monday...although I already watched and let me tell you IS SO GOOD!

awww thanks Lena! :shy: :D

Yeah Pies Descalzos is one of her greatest albums...I love it too....so unique and humble...she's so talented and you're right about her voice...it's nice...kida weird but nice...do you like Rocardo Arjona?? O.o I LOVE HIM  he's my bf...but there's a problem....he doesn't know about it hahaha LOL...Spanish is really hard to learn...harder than english...I have this new friend, he's french...and he's doing an intership here in Venezuela so he's learning spanish...he speaks it so so well!! but sometimes I talk so fast so he doesn't understand what I'm saying lol it's funny...I always try to talk really really slowly for him.

Lena do you speak mando? O.o nice I'm learning it...haha it's really hard...I'm studying the Pin Yin now...deutsch?? zhen de ma?? cool....why?? did you take those classes in school?? I wanna learn Bulgaria but in Venezuela there's not a bulgarian curso so  maybe someday I will.

Hello guys!!!!!!!!!! :D How's everybody doing?

Pao-Pao I saw your pic. You're so pretty :) So you guys saw the movie already? *sigh* omg, I feel so out of this world haha. Well, school finished finally!!!! yay!!!!! So I can enjoy my summer vacations now ^,^. Well, I was kinda busy last week cuz I went back to NYC and a friend came with me cuz she needed to apply a new passport at the Korean consulate. So I toured her around NYC for 5 days and it was crazy!!!! There was one day we walked like 30 blocks... our feet were hurting so badddd... I just wanted to go home that day, but then I was thinking that my friend should go as many places as possible... so we ended up walking more than 30 hahaha.

I'll go back to Peru May 30th and worked as an intern architect for two months. Then, my sister and my mom are coming with me to NYC because my sis is gonna study there. So that means I have to tour her around too... why me? sniff sniff...

Haven't done anything lately. All my friends in the city are having their finals... so I cannot hang out with them until they're finished. So started reading the first book of a trilogy called: His dark materials: The golden compass by Phillip Pullman. Anyone heard of it? Hmmm... so far seems pretty interesting. It's sorta like Harry Potter, but the main character is a girl. It's more about fantasy, different worlds, magic maybe?

Oh well, I wanna learn mandarin. I really want to, but unfortunately the mando class in the school does not fit in my schedule... :( I guess I could practice with you guys although mine is soooo but soooo basic :P

Well, I think it's dinner time. So gotta go. Miss you lots!!!!!!!!!!!! :*

I'm ok sweetie...doing my intership and my thesis...I wanna finish it already...I don't wanna go to work anymore!! I have to get up at 5 am cuz I have to take 2 buses to get there but hey It's worth it so hihihi....family is great...one of my older cousins had a baby girl today!!! I'm so happy!!! I don't talk to hert that much but there's someone new in the family and that's always a great thing to hear!!!...I'm watching It Started with a kiss right now...do you know that t-drama?? it's really good....Starring Ariel Lin and Joe Zhen!! I'm loving it Diana...it's so cute and funny!! you should watch it this summer...youtube.com has all the ep....I'm learning mando very fast...I'm so proud...I know a few things and I can even create sentences already hahaha LOL...we can learn together haha at least we can practice...since you have vacations we can chat more often so I'll tell you more later!!.

Thanks dear...where did you see my pic?? here?? ...which movie? The Curse of the Golden Flower? yup I watched it like 2 months ago hahaha I bought it...thanks God it has subs hihihi...it's pretty good...all the blood and the gold!! + Jay looks so diao!!...I wanna watch Initial D but I don't know where to get it.

NYC?? awww I wanna go there....could you take me? lol...30 blocks? that's a lot dear...poor friend!! haha did you take her to The Empire State Building?? Oh I want to go there someday!.

So you're coming back to your land!! nice!! you must be excited!! O.o you have to give me your phone so I can call you to talk!! it'd be really nice!! at least I can meet you on the phone!..what do you sis want to study?? hihihi lil sisters are always annoying but at the end is family and you have to treat her nice haha...and don't worry I'm sure she will make friends soon and she will forget about you lol.

I dodn't know that book but it sounds interesting...is it like Harry Poter? wow cool I like that kinda books...it brings you to a new different world you know...sinc we live in reality is nice to live that kinda fantasy sometimes....why did you buy it? a friend told you about it?

dianilla
05-27-2007, 12:27 AM
Hey Pao-Pao, you're always so active in the forum lol.

Well, congrats about your cousin's baby :) I just found out that my friend got a baby too. I haven't seen/talked/heard of her for very long time but found her on msn last time and she told me about it. I was so shocked cuz she is of my age and I cannot imagine having a baby right now. Still feel young. I don't think I'm prepared for that.

Moving on. I hope I can find time to watch the drama you just talked about. I'm not big fan of t-dramas, but I'll give it a try. I think I prefer korean ones. They always make you cry no matter what hahaha. I have the initial d movie on dvd. Bought it when I went to Toronto. It was ok. It wasn't as good as I expected. I guess that happens when you are very anxious about something and have very high expectations of it and then you get disappointed cuz it didn't come out as you wanted it.

Well, I hope that in a near future you'll be able to come to nyc and pay me a visit! and then I can take you to the Empire State. My friend and I didn't go cuz we didn't have that much time and she wasn't really interested in going up. Well, I've been to the twin towers before they were destroyed and it wasn't a big deal either...

Yeah, I'll definetely give you my phone number. But I prefer to do it on msn or email or something like that. So, I wonder when I'm gonna get a chance to see you online? I'm not sure if I added you cuz last time there was a weird email that invited me and I blocked it cuz sometimes they're virus and didn't want to take a risk hehehe. Maybe you should add me again but includes a personal message or something on it.

And finally, guess what? I finish reading the first book of the trilogy. I'm on the second half of the second book now. It reminds of harry potter. But it talks about different but parallel worlds. I'm loving it as much as you love you t-drama xD.

Haha, my post always come out to be very long. Since I don't have time to post everyday but I have so much to say... xD oh well.. :P

Pao-Pao
05-27-2007, 03:25 AM
yup I'm always active hahaha.

Thanks sweetie!!! she's beautiful, I haven't meet her yet my uncle told me she's so so pretty...she has black hair, I bet she looks like Tom&Katie's baby girl lol..yup I know what you mean...young people are having babies like crazy hahaha I can't think about having one of my own right now..too busy for that!! and I haven't find my prince charming so lol

Korean dramas are the best but also t-dramas...they're really good...at least ISWAK is...it's so funny Diana, you have to watch it when you have time....I lmao everytime I watch it...I'm on Ep. 27 right now...there are 31 eps so I hopeing to see the end soon cuz they're filming the sequel right now and I need to watch it too...which k-dramas have you wacthed??? I watched one starring Won Bim...Autum in my heart...it was great!! A friend told me that Initial D was great...she doesn't speak mando and the movie didn't have subs but she liked it anyway hahaha lol I wanna watch it so so bad!!!.

It'd be so nice...me and you shopping and hanging out in NYC!! man so cool!!! I want to visti the Empire State, The Liberty Tower, Times Squear, Central Park hahahaha...I have so save a lot of money my friend hahaha.

Well you can see my msn address on my profile...it's paoloca_9@hotmail.com...it's easy hahahaha....I will add you again, don't worry....Ok you can give me your number there...it's ok.

you finished the first book already?? wow you're fast lol you do like it hahaha I can't do that...I get bored easily LOL...I have to read it now, maybe I become a fan too...I'm reading Diary of Anne Frank but I haven't finish it yet....so lame!!!.

Mine are long too hahahaha no worries!!! HUGS GIRL!!! take care and have fun reading the book!!!

Hi Lena!!! awwww you're here :hugz:

How are you?? busy huh?? with school or work?? are you still in Taiwan??

I haven't watched KFD but I know it's good haha

Hi viv!!! WELCOME!!! so you're from Chile?? COOL...I'm Paola from Venezuela.

Hi Margarita!! how are you today??

Well in this forum there are quite a few latinas but just two or maybe three are really active...me for example haha.

I'm not asian...I'm 100% latina haha but that doesn't stop me from loving Jay  I heard about him from a friend who's chinese, he lives in China and we met on msn so he told me about Jay and his music and he gave me a link to Ye Qu so I listened to it and I fell in love with him haha.

I think Lena is asian and Diana of course haha

Welcome! Not all of us are Asian. I am not. I found Jay on my own looking around on the Internet.

I didn't realize this thread existed! :D Even though I am not Hispanic or born in Latin America, I feel like I am sometimes, because I speak Spanish and all of my friends are Hispanic. I have one friend who is from Colombia, but his dad is Chinese. He never learned Mandarin, and he says if his family ever comes, I will need to translate for him. :D I've been showing off my Jay CDs to my Spanish-speaking friends. They said they thought Chinese music was boring, so I guess I proved them wrong.

I had been struggling to remember the name of that kind of bread from Colombia that I like, and I finally remember--arepa. Now I've just made myself hungry again.

Yes, the thread is here (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=275986), unless there's another one I don't know about. My personal favorite is Chayanne. My dad didn't realize that there was a singer named Fanny Lu, which is also my grandma's name. She sounds a lot better than my grandma, though, LOL! From Camila, I like "Todo Cambio." (I can't do the accents without opening Word, so forgive that kind of mistake.)

hahahaaha!!! That's so funny xDDD!!! Thanks for the link by the way!

So..Chayanne, I haven't heard of him for a while!!! but my dad loved him hahaha I still remember he even bought his CD and he used to play it while driving on the car w/ me. It is funny though cuz he doesn't understand most of it but he likes the music, i guess that's the same for me with asian music.

Now that I mentioned that, my parents dont like Jay Chou because they say they cannot understand what he is saying (specially in his raps) and they say his music puts you into sleep...hahaha; instead, they like chinese-oldies songs, and some chinese-opera's hahahahhaah which I REALLY DONT like xD it is funny how music is oriented...and the difference between generations x) I do like some of his old songs...but I rather stick to Jay and the contemporaries ... xd

Yeah Margarita, you're sis is popular hahaha at least in this thread...she joined the forum before me so she knows more latinas than me. I'll PM you with the number she gave me...I wanted to call her long time ago but I just couldn't and I haven't talked to her in a while so I didn't know she moves to Buffalo.

Well I don't think there's a Camila thread cuz nobody knows them haha but I do and I like them too...although I'm not a big fan...but they don't play emo music hahaha just that video with the rocker and his gf and his baby haha.

Sammy!!! arepa is not a bread!! :D hahahaha lol it is made of corn hahaha and it's really good...that's our main food for breakfast and sometimes for dinner. I eat it all the time haha. Do you really like arepas?? haha

My closest friends know about Jay too cuz I've told them and one of them says he sings really good but they still think I'm crazy haha  which I'm not obviously.

I saw the thread...and I'm going there right away. Chayanne?? really girls?? weird...I don't like him hahaha he was famous long time ago but I think he lost his touch...although he has good songs.

Yeah some ppl say Jay doesn't speak well but I don't think so you know...he can speak mandarin well...I understand his songs and all.

O.o chinese-opera's?? HAHAHAHA LOL I don't like operas..they're so annoying...at least for me...women have amazing voices but I don't like that type of music.

Bread can be made out of corn, like cornbread, but for some reason arepa tastes more like hashbrowns to me, even though hashbrowns are made out of potatoes. I like it, but I've only had it once, so I really want it again. One of my friends made it for me, and I've also tried a bunch of other neat foods from different countries--quesadillas, plantains (smashed like potatoes or sweet and fried), churros (so good, especially with ice cream!), and fried corn. The fried corn looked weird to me, but then I tried some, and it tasted good. For some reason, it looked like bugs to me. :D

My Latin American music may not be very up-to-date, but they play Chayanne a lot on the Sirius station "Universo Latino." That's a nice station. They play Mana, Chayanne, Enrique Iglesias, Paulina Rubio, Ricky Martin, Camila, and a bunch of other artists that I had never even heard before until recently. I wasn't listening to a whole lot of Spanish music while I was learning the language the way I'm listening to Mandarin music in order to work on my Mandarin, so I only started listening recently. Ha ha, the Latin American parties are very loud, when we play a lot of music. Last time I went to a party, we played musical chairs, and there were a couple of extra rounds--one for the women, one for the men, the rest were just for the kids. The women were wearing high heels, and it was very funny to see everyone rush around, and the guys were play-fighting and sometimes ended up sitting on top of each other. :D

^That reminds me of the time my parents said they went to "Le Yunika." I was like, "Huh? Where did you go?" They kept saying, "Le Yunika, Le Yunika." Eventually, I figured out that they meant the Mexican restaurant, "La Unica." Then I said, "Oh, you mean La Unica. Lah Ooneekah." Then they were like, "Huh?" They just don't know how to pronounce it! :bleh: They ate there, but they couldn't pronounce the name of the place. Then, my mom asked me what the Spanish version of "the ping pong song" is. I knew what she meant by that, "Dimelo" by Enrique Iglesias, but I had no clue what "Le Yunika" was supposed to mean!

I think I'm physically incapable of rolling my rr's. I just can't do it! My tongue won't do that! I've tried for years, and people still think I'm Hispanic, even though I can't roll my rr's. I can't make the difference between the words "pero" ("but") and "perro" ("dog"), but people generally understand. It must be hereditary, because no one in my family can do that.

Yes well I guess you're right Sammy but arepas are totally different...from the texture to the way you cook them...they're really good...I think they're more famous in Colombia, Venezuela and maybe Ecuador?? I'm not sure...we eat them all the time...for breakfast and dinner...we eat them with almost anything you can think of....cheese, meat, chicken, black beans, avocado, pork etc...but I' prefer cheese, black beans and avocado...gosh and eggs!!! lol

Don't worry, I'll make arepas for you if I ever see you...promise!!!

YEAH WE ARE LOUD hahahaha and we're so so close to our families and culture...I'm not saying other cultures aren't but I mean, it feels so so so NICE when you're in another country and you see a Venezuelan for example...you feel like with family you know...and better yet if you're buying food and you hear someone speaking spanish and telling things like "Epale bro" or some words you only hear in your country....awwww bunch of my friends always tell me stories like this and it's nice.

Camila son demasiado buenos!!! hahaha and you should also listen to Kudai, Allison and Panda...I love these bands...altough Kudai are very young but their new single is really nice...Allison and Panda are from Mexico...PANDA IS THE BEST!! gosh those guys are great!!

We are Diana, I hope you're doing ok too....we can chat on fb!!! YAY!!...I miss you too, especially on msn lol....btw FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS CIELO!!! :hugz:

You silly girl hahahaha yeah Maca I got it lol UN PAISANO!! haha the guy is totally right...I can't say VENEZUELA like I say it everyday hahaha lol so funny LMAO

Well Sammy is hard for people who don't speak spanish as their first language... foreigners most of the times don't pronounce the words correctly...at least the RR...QUI...LL and Ñ...don't push you too hard...at least people understand you.

I guess arepa is most like our cornbread. Mmm...cornbread. I haven't had that in a while. My mom's too much of a Yankee to make it.

I was thinking about some of the mistakes people usually make when they speak more than one language:

You know someone is a Spanish-speaker if they ask you where the soap is and immediately after ask you where the soup is. ("sopa" = "soup")

You know someone is a Spanish-speaker if they ask for the direction of your house when all they really want is the road name and number. (direccion = address)

You know someone speaks Spanish if, while speaking Mandarin, they say that something is coffee-colored. (cafe = brown, coffee, ka fei = coffee)

You know someone is an English-speaker if they publicly get pregnant when they say something dumb. (embarazado/a = pregnant)

Doesn't it seem like every country has it's own word for "pen"? Also, I found out today that in some places, they call "bangs" (that fringe of hair like Jay has on his forehead) "fleco." I always called them "flequilla." It's kind of odd that the English word is plural but the Spanish word isn't.

Pao-Pao
05-11-2008, 05:08 AM
Hahaha you should teach your mum hispanic food is the best!! lol

You can call it: fleco, flequillo or even pollina haha I have a pollina, have you heard this word before? pollina? I think ppl from Mexico call it Fleco and only ppl from Venezuela call it Pollina haha lol and in some places people (I think Spain) call it Melena but I always thought Melena was the hair....when you habe big big hair like the woman from The Nanny we say: Dios que melena tiene haha cuz it's really big lol...and also you can call it Mechon....but un mechon de pelo can be any part of your hair.

And do you mean pen as in Boligrafo, Lapicero???

Err I didn't get the last one LOL

You know someone is an English-speaker if they publicly get pregnant when they say something dumb. (embarazado/a = pregnant)

applemac
05-11-2008, 05:21 AM
hahaha I guess she meant embarrassed? because it sounds like "embarazado".

Actually, I didn't know what was fleco or flequillo, hahaha. In Peru, I think that's what we call "cerquillo". That is so funny about latin america, we speak the same language, but we have so many different words for the same thing. ^_^... if a non-spanish speaker wants to go to latin america and asks me where should he/she go to learn it, I wouldn't know which one should he/she choose...they are all different! :P (not that much, but the speaking and the accent is so different).

Pao-Pao
05-11-2008, 05:29 AM
Yeah read about Cerquillo and I was like: errr eso no es acera?? hahaha lol or maybe a cerca?? hahaha

Latin America is very rich in culture and language cuz you're right there are so so many words and sometimes they mean the same, sometimes they don't....even in your same country hahaha lol

And the accents are totally different lol....take for example Argentina...I don't like their accents and the "vos" hahaha lol they don't say You = Tu, they say vos hahaha

Venezuelan ppl don't have a particular accent...but if we go to Colombia who does, Colombian says we do have one haha so funny

For example, there's a state here called Zulia, capital Maracaibo and it's one of the biggest and famous cities in Venezuela...well they're like their own country...they have an accent (really funny btw) and they have their own word and I live in Valencia so I don't know them but of course at the end we're Venezuelans so we know some of those weird and hilarious words or pharses they say....look at this video and you'll see the difference hahaha its a guy reading a letter and then one guy from Maracaibo reading the same letter but in it's own special way hahaha....we call ppl from Maracaibo, "Maracuchos or Maracuchas" haha

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTg9Xh9wzV0

Please don't pay attention to the bad words and please don't get offended hahaha they really speak like that but it's cuz they're so outgoing and so fiesteros and so loud LOUD and so so so so cheesy lol not every Venezuelan speak like that of course...but I guess you have to be here to know the joke haha and why they're laughing so much...I think hispanics , once again, have a really rich language...we have so so many words and so so many bad words lol

And I live in Valencia and we say "Naguara or Unaguara" when we want to express like OH MY GOSH, or WOW hahaha and they don't say that lol so we have our special way to speak as well.

Omg Pao that was hilarious xD! Well, since I'm from Peru, I think every other country has an accent except mine. I guess that's your case also xD! When I was in high school, there was this program called interCAS, where students from all latin america gather together and do CAS, which stands for Creatividad, Acción y Servicio (Creativity, Action and Service). The point is to go to a country, and do community work. That year, Peru was the country selected to host interCAS. Since I was chosen, I had the chance to go to Paracas, a city in Peru, downtown Lima (the Capital) and I met people from Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Brasil. We were 149 students, from 31 school from 9 different countries. We spent there 3 days, it was AWEEESOME to share our culture. The last night, we had like a talent show, and every country performed something from their own. The funniest thing was when this colombian girl told me that peruvian people has a very strong accent..hahaha I couldn't believe what she said, I start laughing of course. xD And then for the talent show, one of the funniest moment was when these 4 girls from Uruguay started singing a song, which was like a 'joke', since they got a really strong accent, it was like:
sho me shamo shessica sholanda,
me voy a la plasha con masha amarisha,
abro una sombrisha, me tomo un shogurt,
me lavo el cabesho con shonson shampoo.

Translation:
Yo me llamo Jessica Yolanda,
me voy a la playa con malla amarilla,
abro una sombrilla, me tomo un yogurt,
me lavo el cabello con Johnson Shampoo.

[I found Uruguayans and Argentinians accent pretty similar).

I actually knew someone who made the mistake of using "embarazada" to mean "embarrassed." I think she only succeeded in making herself even more embarrassed! She tripped and fell, and said, "I'm pregnant!" LOL!

My teacher in elementary school was from Venezuela, and I always thought that she pronounced the "ll" sound more like a "j" than people from other countries, where it sounds more like a "y." The people from Spain have the funniest accent, though, because they lisp and have a ton of different words!

applemac
05-11-2008, 08:34 PM
Yeah, people from Spain has a really strong accent. Although they are supposed to be like the "official" one (or I don't know how to call it, but you got what I mean, right? xD) I think it is too much, I feel like it is too exaggerated..and it is just weird.. hahaha.

Mexican accent is kinda funny also. I think it is an easy one to identify.

I was thinking about something kind of random--does anybody like to drink malta? It tastes kind of weird to me. I've had it once, and it was like drinking molasses, only it wasn't sticky or slow. I was drinking Malta Goya. I didn't dislike it, but then again, it was kind of weird. I was just wondering if it is very popular. Some friends of mine had it when we ate lunch. I can't remember exactly what we had. I remember that we had mashed plantains. That was kind of weird to me, too. I'm used to mashed potatoes, and I was thinking of platanos maduros. I guess I didn't realize that plantains aren't all sweet until that point, so it was kind of a shocker for me. I'd have fried plantains before, but they were "maduros." They tasted more like bananas. I think I've gotten more used to everyone putting plantains in everything and there being all different kinds.

I forgot about the pens! Yes, I mean that kind of pen, Paola. Here, we call them "plumas," but every country seems to have a different name for them. When everyone moves in here, we end up with people from a bunch of different countries, with their own vocabularies and their own accents. The people from Spain call computers "ordenadores," but here we call them "computadoras." It can be quite confusing, but I don't think it's as bad as moving from one place to another in China, since those "dialects" they have are much more different from each other.

applemac
05-11-2008, 09:46 PM
Fried plantains are bananas.. or maybe I'm confusing, but I google it on google, and they are bananas. We eat them too xD We even have those as snacks.

The fried plantains are the ripe kind, yellow like bananas, but the mashed plantains aren't ripe. They come from the green plantains, and they taste a lot different! I mean, who would fix bananas like potatoes? That'd be kind of gross!

I just realized...I'm probably the only Spanish-speaking person who despises tomatoes! :bleh:

Hahahahahahahahahahahah LOL  that was so so funny Maca!!...I don't know how Unruguayans speak lol I don't know if they have an accent but I do know I don't like Argentinias accent...and yeah it sounds exactly like that song they sang LOL

That's so cool...that you had the chance to meet ppl from all over latin america...I wish I could do the same thing cuz it feels really good cuz at the end we're all bros and sis you know...Latina America is the best!! and when we gather together is like THE PARTY hahaha lol cuz once again, we're so loud...so funny...so outgoing etc

Really Sammy?? are you sure she was from Venezuela?? cuz we pronounce the LL like Y...that how it sounds, not like J.

Yeah Spain gave us our language so they're like "official"...it's like "el verdadero español"...and they use words that we don't use...and if you see ppl from Galicia (they called themselves gallegos) they speak SO SO different!! cuz they have they're own accent and since they live near Portugal they don't really speak spanish...they speak like a mix between spanish and portuguese...it's really funny cuz they talk really really fast and sometimes I understand some words but sometimes I give up lol

MALTA!!!! :D so so good...I love it but I don't drink it that much cuz I don't drink gaseous drinks but yes Sammy it's very famous here....I haven't heard about that lable before but I guess you have to try Maltin Polar hahaha

http://static.flickr.com/28/54732672_1b5c505ec4_m.jpg

They're you go...Malta and empanada...the typical Venezuelan breakfast lol

Platanos are very famous too....we have to include platanos in every lunch or even dinner...me for example, I can't have lunch without platanos...but I don't eat them fried, I eat them steamy...they're really good too...have you tasted platanos dulces?? they're so yummy....you have to use them maduros and the have this sweet flavor cuz of the sugar...and have you tasted tostones?? well you don't use maduros for those...you use them verdes and although they look like fried platanos, they're different cuz the texture is different and you can add a lil bit of salt and they're tougher.

http://seattlebonvivant.typepad.com/seattle_bon_vivant/images/tostones_1.jpg

Actually we also use the word "plumas" but for us plumas are fancier and more expensive than a typical boligrafo or lapicero, like this:

http://www.minabis.com/images/33084162.jpg

See the diference??..."pluma" is the one on the right...and boligrafo is the other one.

I got use to spanish words cuz I used to read Bravo long time ago, that's a magazine from Spain and it's kind of famous...I was a big BIG BSB fan so since they were so famous in Europe, I read that magazine...btw I still have them somewhere lol

Bananas and platains are different but mostly cuz of their sizes...bananas are smaller...but yeah they taste the same.

Ok that was REALLY long lol

Ohhh Sam I just read you are not going... then what are you going to do for summer?

hobielover
05-16-2008, 03:00 AM
I have plenty to do during the summer--teaching myself Mandarin, helping other people learn Mandarin, going to visit family in upstate New York, going someplace on vacation (we don't know where we're going, but were going there), going to the pool, hanging out, listening to music, translating songs, etc.

The best Mexican restaurant we have around here is La Unica. I love their churros! I don't like that stuff they call "caramel," though. It doesn't taste like caramel to me. Is that some kind of thing that is different in Mexico? I always thought caramel was supposed to be sweet. Anyways, I don't order the churros with the caramel in them, but con fresas is good. (Mmm...strawberries...I just remembered that there are some downstairs!) I don't know if there is a restaurant like this in NYC, Margarita, but if there is, it is pretty good. There is also a place in Appalachicola, FL, that is very good. It is called "Peppers." My grandma and I shared a supper there once and had the churros afterwards. I've never seen so much stuff on churros before! There was ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate, and caramel (not the icky kind).

^Aww, cute! Te quiero, tambien.

Does anyone else ever get annoyed by the word "chino"? I think it's in Colombia that it has a double meaning. I'm constantly asking, "Un chino de china o un chino joven?" ("A Chinese person or a youth?") Otherwise, I don't know which I'm talking about.

It's kind of funny that most people don't think there's a Chinese guy who sings reggaeton, and they're very surprised by the song "Hong Mo Fang."

Aww, I only got to go to his concert vicariously through the DVD/CD set I bought. How much did we miss out on?

I've been kind of bored lately, so I started doing Spanish translations again. You might remember the video Jen helped me with for "Un Vaquero Está Muy Ocupado" ("Niu Zai Hen Mang") (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQpUb_AuVFg). Her YouTube account got suspended recently, and she's starting on a new one, so I'm going to try out subbing on my own. I have 2 new translations in order, but no time right now to do the subs. Here are the translations, though:

Silencio

Estabas llevándome a mano, acompañándome,
Pero ahora, todo esto está en el pasado.
Espero que él de veras te ame más que yo.
Sólo puedo esforzarme a salir.

Quieres que yo diga algo que sea muy difícil.
Es cierto que no quiero que nos separemos.
¿Por qué necesito sonreír para continuar?
No tengo ese tipo de habilidad
De sorportar que quieres a él también.
No te preocupes demasiado.
Voy a mejorar.

Tornado

*Me dejaste silencio—silencio—silenciosame nte,
Y ahora estoy en peligro, baby,
Pues mi mundo es una tormenta con viento fuerte y lluvia.

#Wu~

Amor viene demasiado rápido como tornado.
No puedo escapar la tormenta cuando llega. No hay manera de escapar.
No puedo pensar de nuevo, no puedo pensar de nuevo,
Yo no, yo no, yo no puedo...

I did my own English translations first, then did the Spanish translations with the lyrics fresh in my mind. I left in the English word "baby," though, for "Tornado," since Jay really did use the English word. You can see that I like to leave in the repetition in the lyrics, too. Aren't they so sweet? "Tornado" is my favorite Jay song.

I think if I add Spanish subs of his songs on YouTube, maybe more Latin American fans will be converted, since I don't see any other Spanish subs, so if there are more fans in Latin America, maybe Jay will start having concerts there. It's my master plan:

Translate Jay's songs into Spanish=make Spanish-speaking fans=someone from JVR finds out=Jay goes to Latin America

I'm not doing Vincent Fang's lyrics now, though. They're too hard. I'll do that when I feel more confident in my Chinese. So, I'm going with other lyricists. I do agree that much is lost, but I think this can attract more fans, since Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the world, with Mandarin being the first. Mandarin rhymes better.

I know I'm not Chinese, I'm white, and Pao isn't Chinese either. She's full Hispanic. Margarita (applemac) is Chinese, though.

I ran off to hang out with my Spanish-speaking friends the other day, and I came back to find a kitten in my house! Hobie is very jealous now. He wants to be my baby, and he doesn't want any younger kitties around. He also got a haircut, so he's also kind of sucking it up for the warmth now. The kitten's ears remind me of Yoda, LOL!

This is my old Spanish shirt. The people who made them left out some of the accents, so I drew them in, LOL! I'm always picky about spelling and grammar, whether English or Spanish!

Oh, and the hat is for Charlotte's football team. Go Panthers!

In case anyone's feeling down, here's (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3093/2610156371_1b81212bb9_o.jpg) a Mariachi band to cheer you up! (Ugh! I have some random person in the background!)

You know my remedy for that? I watch Jay's MVs and match the characters with the sounds, but they're in Traditional, so if you want to learn Simplified, you should probably look for a good mainland artist, such as Fusion Band. There are also a bunch of good books that can help you learn to write, and some of them really break the characters down so it's easier to remember them.

I want a cool Chinese name now! My Spanish name is Samanta, which I only get to use with Spanish-speaking friends, and I just go by Sam in English, but putting it in Chinese characters, but that seems too Western. My friends see me in a qipao, and they ask me if I know how to write their names in Chinese. I tell them I don't know, but I might be able to find a transliteration. So, I get stuck looking up transliterations for all of these Spanish names. There's one problem with that, though. Should "Juan" be "胡安"? I would go with "约翰," since it's a Bible name. The former may make the same sound, but it isn't the name of the apostle. Since my friends are religious, I'm inclined to simply find the name in my Chinese Bible and write it down for them. They have names like "Jose," "Juan," "Maria," "Kesya," etc. (The last is one of Job's daughters, but they played around with the spelling some.)

This weekend, my parents are leaving, so I want to go to the Peruvian restaurant with the good chicken and have fried plantains. I also want to go to Tin Tin, but they're expensive! Whoo! Their food is great, though, and it's a buffet, so I'll have to go when I feel really hungry. I would go to La Unica, but I just went this weekend. I had quesadillas con pollo and churros con fresas. I was so hungry, I just had to order dessert, and you know the churros were calling me! :D

Margarita: Wow, same here...well actually my whole family is taiwanese, but i was born in miami and spent most of my life in peru..
i can only read a bit of chinese but i can speak it. my mom's forcing me to learn how to write it.

Lain Lang: i heard that portugese is really similar to spanish. can you speak spanish as well?

Lain Lang
07-18-2008, 11:22 PM
well.. yes, portuguese is pretty similar to spanish...I never took spanish classes but I can understand it fairly (reading), and the listening is quite good, but mostly all the brazilians can understand it.
But i won't try to speak or something like that... hahaha

applemac wow!! say hi to her for me!! i wish I had a tan, here's winter..so no tan for now!

hobielover hum... when i was studying in taiwan the guys from my classes chose their names by the meaning... came out pretty cool names hahaha... you can try to pick a name from taiwanese novels... they usually have good meaning...
my parents chose mine...and both characters means something good..can't explain it..hahah

As for my chinese, it's good at reading and writing, but I must be practising a lot so I won't forget... I can usually understand novels and tvshows, but news are hard... really hard... ahhaha

Well, I think there are some characters that work in girl names and others that work in boy names. I like the girl's name from "Secret," "小雨," but I think I'm going with "星儿," since I like science fiction so much. The first character means "star" and the second character means "son," but I guess "child" would be a more fitting translation, since it is a girls' name. I saw it as the name of a female singer, seemed kind of obscure, but I liked the name. It's "Xing Er" in Pinyin.

I guess the news would be hard. You'd have to watching the television to see the context, and have an understanding of the subject, I think.

Hello everybody!!!!!

After such a long time I finally came back to Jay's forum and I'm glad to see that this thread has been active. For the new people in this thread nice meeting you all! And I can see that sam_ho is in Peru too!
I've missed lenilla and pao so much! I wonder what you gals have been up to? I'll tell you I went to Paris for my study abroad program this summer and traveled to other European countries for a total of 2 months. The trip was awesome and all worth it!!! Then spent a week in NYC with some relatives and taking a break after travelling so much. Now, I'm back to Peru resting for one week before heading to Cuba for 5 days to spent quality time with my family. Then I'll be back to Peru for another 3 weeks before going back to Buffalo and get ready for my last year in college. Seems I got a pretty busy summer, isn't it?

Right now, I'm waiting until it's time to go to Camila's concert!!!! I'm excited. Hope they will give us a fantastic performance. Take care everybody~~

Your going to Camila's concert?! I'm so jealous! I think some of my friends have seen Mana, but I've never been to a concert!

I'm going to try to start subbing "Tornado" in Spanish tomorrow. I hope it turns out nice. I did my own translation, and now I want to sub the MV.
