I actually didn't find anything particularly special about Forgiveness. It's better than Greatful Days and Ourselves (even though Ourselves is ADDICTIVE), but it doesn't really shine when I listen to her older works...

Still, Forgiveness isn't half bad as far as newer releases go. XD

I never listen to her songs because I don't really like her voice. Seasons was the only song by her I really liked. I usually collect her videos and pictures just because I like her fashion. Her videos are usually pretty well done and stylish. If her voice was thicker I might listen to her songs a bit more, but for now, I just like her clothes and makeup.

Ayumi's newest single is coming out at the end of July! It's called "inspire" and has a poppy feel to it. I've listened to it and not really loving it.... :cry: Reminds me a bit of BoA who I do not like. I'm hoping the other songs on her single are better!

I like her images. Every time she came out with an album there is always the surprise element on her image. It is seldom ugly. Somehow it always make her look good. She was interviewed by "The Times" magazine last year. If you are avid fan of her it is a must read. A lot of interesting things on her.

I like Ayumi! When I first listened to her, she sounded rather typical. Maybe her songs were a little different in the way of pop, but nothing spectacularly different. Then, my friend sent me the TIME article of her, and when I read these lines, my interest in her grew.

It is necessary that I am viewed as a product. I am a product. The "Hi, this is Ayu" person on TV is the person I know they want to see. I understand it's my role to realize people's dreams. I'm okay with that so long as my songs are my own.After reading that, I respected her so much. Very few, if any, stars go straight out and say "I am a product and what you see is what you want, not me". I started listening to her songs in a different way after that.

As far as fashion goes, she is a goddess. I think she can pull anything off. >.O

As for My Story, it's alright. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be and some of the tracks on the album are really good. That one instrumental with the freaky clown music though - that was just SCARY. I really like My Story. That's probably my favorite track off the album.

I like her, but not as much as I used to.
She can put out some absolutely amazing stuff (Memorial Address, Moments, Rainbow), but most of her songs are filler.

I don't like her image though.
She splashes on too much makeup, and it's pretty obvious she's gotten an eye-job or two.

I do notice that her songs are going from dance style to rock & band style nowadays....

Her more recently songs like "No Way To Say" , "Because of You" & "Game" uses a live band for music.....
rock ballads i would say.... probably that's the type of music she likes.... given that she now has the ability to have a say in the type of music she wants to produce for her albums...

Her earlier singles such as "Evolution", "Whatever", "Unite!" are more upbeat kinda dance tracks....

I would prefer her past works though..... But nonetheless, her ballads... whether past, present, pr future..... STILL THE BEST! Better still if its a live performance!

I've just recently started listening to Ayumi's songs. I think she's really pretty. Some of my fave songs by her are Heaven, Will, and Walking Proud.

I was just wondering, how do you guys think she compares to her competitors, Namie Amuro, Hitomi, and Hikaru Utada? I know that she usually sells more albums than them though.

if you like hamasaki ayumi's songs, you should also listen to HAL. when i first heard a song by HAL, i thought it was ayu singing. >_< i heard that the music is produced by HAL for ayu (that's why the music sounds alike b/w ayu and HAL). their voices also sound alike to me as well.

yeah ayumi is the one that started me on japanese music and asia on a whole... i lived in china and i kept seeing an ad for orange softdrink or something on the TV themed to a song off the RAINBOW Cd and i couldnt get it out of my head. i came back to school in aust. and was walking past a kid in my boarding house's computer and heard the song and nearly made him fall out of his chair it was so random... since them i have brought about 40 japanese/Chinese CD's and have a total of 5908 non-english (99.9% asian) songs on my computer... how says i am not obsessed?

and later in the teenager-age she made alot of model pics

What are everyone's favourite Ayu PVs?

I don't care too much for her older ones, they're pretty uninteresting, but I love 'Kanariya.' I really started to like her PVs starting from the Memorial Address-era on, though the 'Connected' PV is really cool to watch, PVs like "Ourselves" and "Because of You" are awesome, same with "alterna." "GAME" and"About You" remind me of the aforementioned PVs but they're also different, they're not as interesting as them, but they're great to watch.

The "Moments" PV is gorgeous, I love the shots of her on the floor with the features and the black paint/ink. The 'is this LOVE?' PV is also another favourite, I love how everything looks slowed down and exploding XD Ayu also looks really pretty in that MV, the 'STEP you' PV is also nice to watch, Ayu's very cute.

I didn't like too many of the recent PVs, "Beautiful Fighters" was cute, but not that interesting, and the "Startin'" PV ruined the song for me T_T;

last night i couldnt fall asleep and i decided to watch some ayu PVs
and i tried to understand the story behnd them, but it was very complex
and i always was too lazy to look it up in the internet and also when i couild have read the stories, i still was too lazy
haha...but i regret really being that laz,because yesterday i treid really to undertand them, and i will definatly read the stories when i find them anywhere

its just i love RAINBOW PV and also OURSELVES are so impressive

and fairyland is such a cute summerish PV,really like it

Whatever Ayu's done to her hair has usually worked for her no matter what the style or colour, that's part of why she's so great as a fashion icon, she can work just about any look. My personal favourite look from her is when she has dark brown hair, she looks really pretty and sophisticated, for example, the Startin'/Born to be... covers were simply gorgeous, or the photoshoot for the January 2006 ViVi, I really love the dark brown on her, black may be too harsh, but dark brown looks just right in my opinion.

She does look really good with short hair, it's very cute, but I prefer it long and feminine, but that may be my own personal preferences coming in there XD

How long can Ayumi be QUEEN?

She has dominated the Japanese pop scene for years, but Ayumi Hamasaki could soon be bumped out of top spot by fast-rising newbies like Kumi Koda and Ai Otsuka

THERE is only one J-pop queen throne, but three contenders.
Chameleonic popster Ayumi Hamasaki has been the reigning queen all this while until sizzling sex bomb Kumi Koda sashayed along early this year and nearly bumped her off the throne.

Competition intensified recently with the meteoric rise of singer-songwriter Ai Otsuka, who is said to be Kumi's biggest rival at the upcoming Nihon Record Taisho, Japan's version of the Grammy Awards.

That all three singers are contracted to Japan's biggest and most powerful record company Avex Trax only increases the rivalry.

But who will get to wear the J-pop queen tiara eventually?

The A-Nation concert held in Tokyo's Ajinomoto Stadium on 27 Aug held a clue.

It was a six-hour pop extravaganza starring Avex artistes ranging from pop groups like TRF, Every Little Thing and TVXQ to solo acts like hitomi, BoA and Ami Suzuki.

But there was only one finale act, and the stage belonged to Ayumi.

The 28-year-old's performance, at 40 minutes, was reportedly the longest. She belted out seven hit songs and had the 50,000-strong crowd singing along.

Every artiste had his or her own merchandise booth and Ayumi's apparently attracted the longest queue.

She was also the only artiste who got ferried in an automated cart around the stadium to get closer to her fans and shake their hands.

Mr James Kang, marketing director of Warner Music, who was at the concert, said: 'Ayumi is the undisputed queen. She got the queen treatment and also the loudest applause and screams.

'She was charismatic on stage and displayed showmanship befitting her 'royal' status.'

Most of the 60-plus Chinese media invited to the show agreed and their views were reflected in reports that ranked Ayumi's performance as No 1 among all the Avex artistes.

But it was Kumi, 24, who charmed the socks off reporters at the pre-concert media conference with her candid replies.

China's News Times reported that she laughed heartily when asked about her sexy image.

She also talked about being 8kg heavier when she started and how she disliked herself so much that she started dieting to lose weight.

'The sexiness that I'm pursuing is not the kind that will only make the men think I'm sexy, but also the women,' she said.

'I don't know if you watch animated (shows), but the female protagonists are always portrayed as strong. I think they exude both coolness and sexiness and that's what I hope to be like.'

She certainly did set out to be sexy at the A-Nation concert, judging by her two drool-inducing outfits, a mint-green bra top with hot pants and a black bra top over torn jeans.

Not to be outdone, Ayumi raised her own sex factor by appearing in a sequinned black and white swimsuit-like outfit and, for another song, a white cropped T-shirt over army-green shorts.

COPYCAT AYUMI?


Talk of rivalry started months ago when Kumi flaunted her long legs on her album cover and Ayumi followed suit on her CD single cover.

More recently, Ayumi donned a wedding kimono for an advertisement while Kumi is set to appear in a wedding gown for her new single.

But in terms of sex appeal, Kumi won hands down with her tantalising dance sequences at the A-Nation concert.

Mr Kang said: 'Her dance for the song Butterfly was really hot.'

He added that even 50-year-old obasans (Japanese for aunties) in the crowd were screaming and clapping along to Kumi's performance.

'I was shocked that the Japanese aunties were open-minded enough to embrace a sex bomb,' he said.

'But Kumi also makes a strong feminist statement on stage. She's constantly telling women to believe in themselves and do what they want to do.'

Interestingly, Kumi's brazen ways have also inspired a Korea-based singer to follow in her footsteps. (See other report.)

Meanwhile, Ai's cutesy charms not only won cheers from the teenage crowd, but from the media in China too.

Lauded for her creativity and songwriting talent, the 24-year-old reportedly made a good impression with her laughter and easy-going ways.

Recently, she made a huge splash in her first straight-to-DVD movie, Tokyo Friends, fuelling talk that she was fast becoming a threat to Kumi's status.

Mainichi Daily News reported that Avex assigns individual support teams to its A-list artistes and that Ayumi had the biggest team of 30 members. Kumi had about 20 and Ai, fewer.

But with the success of Tokyo Friends, which sold an impressive 50,000 copies, Ai's team reportedly got beefed up to the same level as Kumi's.

Apparently, Kumi was also furious when Ai got second billing after Ayumi at an Avex concert in June.

A TV network insider told Shukan Shincho: '(Kumi) Koda and (Ai) Otsuka are bitterly opposed to each other and make little secret of their rivalry.

'Koda goes around saying that Otsuka has no talent. And Otsuka says that Koda... 'acts like a cheap, nightclub hostess'.'

Avex, however, denies talk of any rivalry.

A spokesman told Mainichi Daily News: 'They belong to the same record company, so there's no question of a dispute.'

But it is not so clear how long Ayumi can hold on the J-pop queen's throne before being usurped by either

Under many's expectations, Avex's no 1 singer Ayumi will be singing in Taibei's xiao ju dan in March, and it has been long since she visited Taiwan [about 5years]

It has ben Ayu's wish to sing in Taiwan especially since (miss)understood sold well in Taiwan, being the top in many charts. She said before; "I have never expected Taiwan fans to be so supportive of her, I wish to go to Taiwan." And she has already announced in her recent CNN interview that she will be having an Asia Tour from March to June.

To their knowledge, Ayu has already signed the contract. expecting to perform in Taibei in MArch, venue is still under discussion, and she will be heading to different places such as Shanghai and Hong Kong for her tour, accompanied with her usual stunning style, grand stage design to let her fans enjoy. Yesterday, someone released this info - her coming, but she also said, "Details are still under discussion."

Ayu has arrived in Hong Kong today for Confessions of Pain's premier but it's only for 1 day. The organising company has reserved the entire level, and allowing her to stay in a 360k president suite in addition of 30 other stylist, security guards, treating her like a queen. Though Ayu's sales has been declining, new album Secret's popularity is not that high, and her contract with Avex will end next year, Avex stil has high hopes on her, treating her with the best, Avex's president himself even accompanied her to Hong Kong, and this has been seen has his sincerity to continue with Ayu's contract.

Ayu is, and will always be, my favorite jpop artist. I just love her songs, style, and personality. She's awesome n_n One thing that does irk me about her (and most people would agree) is her voice. There are times when I have to lower the volume because it gets too squeaky. Anyways, I love a lot of songs by her. Forgiveness is a good song but somehow I just don't listen to it a lot. Some other good ballads are M, jewel, a song for xx, voyage, who.., ...ah there's just so many x_x But my favorite songs are heartplace and a song for xx. I'm surprised that heartplace doesn't get much recognition. The song is so good n_n

Aiyo..where the hell have I been while Ayumi Hamasaki was reigning Japan & the rest of Asia.I'm a big fan of her nemesis Utada Hikaru,however,people were always admiring karen's Ayu avatar so I decided to do some reserach on Ayu & found a diamond in the ruff.

Jewel is a perfect song for her to sing & I also love listening to End Roll,Trust,Dearest,Far Away,& Forgiveness.I'm currently searching for more media on Ayu because I just found Jay's female equal.I have to say I love them both so much that I think Ayu should get her own section in the forums.

Furthermore,there was a beautiful mv made by huge fans of Ayu & they played her song Dearest perfectly with an electric guitar & piano keyboard.I swear my heart melted after listening to their version of Dearest & the link is in my banner actually.So go check it out people!!!^^

Really, the only two jap artists that I constantly listen to are Yui and Ayu...

The first cover is the "YOU" version and the second one is the "depend on you" version. To celebrate her anniversary she re-recorded two of her past songs and the "YOU" version contains her song "YOU" and yeah you get the point :bleh:. The two covers I have posted are the first press edition and the regular edition is the same cover just different size. The CD only is not released yet. I forgot but I think only the first press edition comes with the re-recorded tracks.
