This book is also written by Amy Tan (the same author as the Joy Luck Club)

I strongly recommend this book to everyone! Especially people that feel strongly about their root.

I dont want to spoil the book... but it is basically the clash of cultural differences between an ABC daughter and her very traditional mother.

Her mother has a lot of "weird" behaviour but all only revealed towards the end of the story!!

Anyone else read this book before? Hope someone have....

I've read the book before.. =) Its been a while though.. ><

But i remember being able to empathise with the characters, and it made me realise how lucky i am to have the best of both worlds. im proud of being chinese, but i have the freedom more prominent in english families. :D

I love reading books by Amy Tan, Adeline Yen Mah and Jung Chang etc...i just find it a more fascinating way to find out more about my chinese roots. So yeh, i enjoyed this book. =)

Audrey: ohh and i read The Kitchen Gods Wife as well...it is almost the same at The Bonesetters Daughter

That's too bad, because I was planning on reading Kitchen Gods Wife next. I learned about my relationship with my mom through this book. Although, I cannot exactly relate, it helped me sort out some family issues at the time.

i remember reading the bonesetter's daugher a couple years back. although i didnt get to ever finish the book [lol, i got lazy =/] i read about half of it and i thought it was reeealllyyyy good. i agree with you guys that i could relate quite well to ruth. the part about ruth thinking her neighbor raped her was kinda funny but then a little sad at the same time.. haha anyone remember that part? i liked joy luck club better though. the movie was good too (:

i've read all of AMY TAN's books...n i love it very much..
i came across this writer when i saw The Joy Luck Club in HBO back in many many yrs ago...
when i saw her book in MPH Bookstore here in Msia..i straight away take it from the shelf n pay for it..after tat,i got myself all of her books...the Bonesetter's Daughter is the last book i read from her..
it was good...i've always wondering why chinese mum hav to b so sure of wat they said is true..
i mean my mum always said tat..if u dun listen to me,u will regret, wat i said is true n i've expected u to believe it n do it as i said....even tho i am unlike those characters in the book where the daughters are all borned n grow up in the States..but still,my mum somehow is a lil bit like the mothers in the book...i guess all chinese mum r like tat..hehe!!
