Penny Dai ...the Sheryl Crow of Chinese music?

Hiya, anyone heard of Penny Dai?

Just recently found out about her music and totally fell in love with her style. She incorporates a lot of guitars and piano in her songs, it sounds very accoustic and have a really lighthearted and upbeat feel to it and her voice is wonderful.

I kinda understand why she's been hailed as that...the Sheryl Crow of Chinese music because of her talent on the guitar (she has a better voice). Just wanted to ask wheather anyone has heard of her and her music and what do you think?

I love her songs but din buy her album.. I love her "Oh my God" :p like the lyrics..it shows that reality really bites! and other songs like..Shui Zhong Yang, 1999, She Me Dou She De etc.

she's called the sheryl crow of chinese music?? i don't think her voice is that great.. and she doesn't stand out from the crowd of young female singers. i do like "ni yao de ai" but her other songs are.. eh

my friend borrowed me penny tai's latest album and i think her songs are quite nice on the first listen.....i liked more than half of it.... :thumbsup:

i've never likened her to Sheyl Crow, but then, i've never likened Asian artists to Westerners. i have only heard two songs from Penny, one is Ni Yao De Ai, and i can honestly that i love it, all for the simplicity of the lyrics, the tune and the perfect rendering of her voice with the words. the other song, i forgot the title, but it's fairly new since i saw it lately on Asia Plus. it's good, but not extraordinary..

i got to know Penny Dai from Zen Yang (How).
i love her Jie Jiao De Zhu Fu (Wishes from the corner of the street :unsure: ) and Ni Yao De Ai.
She pens the lyrics and composes the tunes for all her albums iirc...
And i think that's pretty amazing cos her songs are of such varying styles.
A pity that she has yet to make it really big.
Comparatively, Jasmine Leong (aka Fish or Liang Jing Ru) is more succesful in Taiwan, both of them being Malaysians.

I don't quite agree with babyxv's opinion. I think she voice is good! You should listening to her other songs like 'Shi Jian Kuai juan" ,1999, jie tou de zhu fu...they are quite nice..

And her new album is good too!! Go Penny Tai!

yeah, i think she's very talented. among all those female cpop siingers, i personally think that she's one of the best. most of her songs are incredibly good, given that she doesn't only sing, but also writes them (or most of them anyway). :roll:

i really like her! one of my frens from malaysia recommended her to me and so i bought one of her compilation cd's, and she's soo good! i really like her voice, soulful, strong, yet with a tinge of childlike quality in it.. and its awesome that she writes both the melody AND lyrics to most of her songs... ive seen her perform unplugged on tv and she really impressed me. shes not bad looking either. like mushy i really like jie jiao de zhu fu! and of cos ni yao de ai

I think the only song I have heard by her is "Ni Yao De Ai"...but don't remember it very well...I only know of it because my cousin sang it when I went to karoke along with her and some relatives one night... :D But from what I remember, that was a good song, I liked it very much!

I wish to hear some of her other songs, but have trouble finding places to download them or places to buy her CDs...and I haven't been to Vancouver in a long time...haven't had a chance to look at or buy any CDs. :? Maybe, if it's not too much trouble, someone could upload one or a few of her songs?

I love her voice. Truly beautiful and very soothing to the ear. I really like her songs because they sound nice and her voice pulls through the whole song =)

her voice absolutely kicks!!! i actually prefer her over stef sun, altho i knoe alota peeps will proly disagree. she's so talented, almost all of her songs are written by herself including that 'ni yao de ai' song from meteor garden.

i agree, although i have to say that stef sun isn't that bad either, esp. in comparison to some other female mandarin singers.

i still like her old songs eg. Ze yang and Xi Guan Zhe Yang, her last album "Just Sing It" is also not bad. Jie Jao De Zhu Fu is good. but i dun like her latest album, she seems to have lose her feel/touch. i dunno, the album juz dun appeal to me like her old songs....

penny tai is really really talented..as u all know, she composes her own songs.and she sings really well!! i went for the super concert and of all the performers( includes sun yanzi,tanya chua,fish leong,evonne hsu etc), i feel that she sang the best.. with just a guitar accompaniment and her voice. she wowed the crowd! really good!! before the concert..i didn't really take much notice of her but seeing her perform that day really made me a convert! haha..

Penny is wonderful! I have her best compilation album, and I love Fang...Kong Dong and Cinderella. Probably 3/4 the songs that she writes are good, while I don't really like the rest... But it's amazing how she wrote and composed every single song that she's sung.

Oh, and also, her new album is coming out! :excited: I think it's called "Ai Feng Le", or "crazy in love". I've heard the first single, and it sounds quite good.

penny was receiving an award ..being the first chinese malaysian singer who produced the most songs in malaysia guiness book record.
