The most influential artiste for the entire year of 2002 would definitely be Jay Chou. With the cash counter tinkling non-stop, and the advise from his menotr, Jack Wu, Jay should be rich enough to be 'brand conscious'. However, things were not as it should be.
Jay never knew how much he had earned all these while, he doesn't have any idea how much he is getting per commercial, and how much money he had in his bank account.
Nowadays, when the F-gen youths have an average of 3 credit cards in their wallets, Jay does not even have any credit card. Not only is he without any credit cards, he does not even bring a wallet around. So would he meet with any difficulty if he was stopped by the police? With a name as famous as Jay, his face is his 'ID' and 'Drving Licence'.
After Jay got off to a raging success, he was earning more money than he ever dreamt. But Jay had little sense of money, so his company Alfa has a huge group of people assigned to count his money, and manage his finances. Jay always had PAs around him, to help him handle his money.
This point can be clearly illustrated in the clothes he bought. The pants and shirts he owned usually do not come with pockets. Since he always had PAs to help his pay for things, there were no need for pockets. Even when given a personal handphone, he would keep losing them, because he does not have any pockets to keep them. So, even his personal handphone was kept by his PAs. And Jay is pretty happy with the kind of life he is leading now.
But the Capricorn in Jay still has his basic principles. He is not without 'brand consciousness' but he had a different attitude whenn it comes to brand selection. His clothes may appear to be without any visible brands, but a simple T-shirt can actually cost more than a few thousand dollars, and when you flip the collar to reveal the brand tags, they are of respectable brands!
In addition, Jay is the best and most loyal spokesman the companies could have employed. Up till now, he had never used any handphone models from any other rival handphone manufacturers, or drank the coke from the rival company, when he's in the public and even when he's alone!

MacDawn's FootNotes:
Thought this article is pretty cute. Yeah, Jay's T-shirt may look like any old T-shirt you can pick from the bargain store, but if you look really hard, those T-shirts ARE the branded goods...
And yap, he really did gave me the feeling he had no idea how much he is earning... as long as they are enough for him to buy what he wants, he is contented..... and he didn't have much to buy anyway.....
