Channel V (World Chinese Music Billboard) yesterday simultaneously in both Beijing and Taiwpei, announced the finalists in the year's awards. The finalists for the Most Popular Newcomer including, Van Fan (Fan Yi Cheng), Evonne Tsiu (Xu Hui Xin), Shin Band, Zoey Rong (Rong Zu Er), were present at the Taipei announcement ceremony, while Kelly Chan, and Mainland singer Sun Nan were present at the Beijing ceremony.
The awards ceremony, to be held on 19-01-2003 in the Shanghai Musical Theatre, is the ninth of its kind. Among the awards norminated, last year's big winner, Jay Chou, is also the hot favorite for this year's award. His three songs, Last Battle, Secret Code and Peninsula Iron Box, were in the contest for the "Top 10 Most Popular Songs". But David Tao is also not lagging behind, with his Black Tangerine and Angel are in thr running for the award. This would be a replay of last year's battle between the two R&B princes.
Yesterday, the norminees for the Newcomer award, Evonne, Van, Zoey and Shin Band, all expressed that the most blissful time in the careers of the artistes, would be during the time when they first entered the entertainment circle. Because they just started, they are given a lot of slack, and have more chances.
Van and Shin Band both started out from pub singing, but there was no hint of rivalry between the two. Instead, there was much betting, and saying that the winner must treat the other to drinks.
Last year, more than 5,000,000 people joined in the voting for last year's awards. So this year, Channel V will also make use of SMS and web voting to make the final decision. So from today until 10-01-2003, fans can go to the Taiwan Yahoo! website to cast their votes. Or they can SMS with the message 'V' to 83822, within 5 seconds, they will receive the automatic voting slip to cast their votes.
