Yousendit Explained
Yousendit (http://www.yousendit.com) is a website that allows you to temporarily upload any file, up to 1GB in size, to their server. While their original purpose was to be used for attachments too large for e-mail, it has grown to much more, and now is one of the most common ways people share files over the internet because it is fast, free, and doesn't require a lot of computer knowledge.

The only downside of Yousendit is that the files only stay on their servers for 7 days or 25 downloads, whichever comes first, after which the file is blocked or deleted from the server. While there is a trick to go over the 25 download limit, there is no trick for keeping the file on the server for more than 7 days. (Refer to the Tricks section to find out how)

How to Upload on Yousendit

Go to the Yousendit Site (http://www.yousendit.com). Once there you will see a screen like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/jiandanai/ysiguide01.jpg
First enter a e-mail address, then click the "Browse" button.

A new pop-up that looks like this will appear:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/jiandanai/ysiguide02.jpg
Simply select the file you wish to upload and then click "Open."

Finally you can click "Send it"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/jiandanai/ysiguide03.jpg\

Now begins the wait. When you see this screen you know the file is uploading. How long it takes depends on your connection speed and the size of the file.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/jiandanai/ysiguide04.jpg

When the file is done uploading you will see a confirmation screen like this one with a URL that will read as "http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=XXXXX" where the XXXXX is some random letters and numbers. You can highlight and copy (Ctrl+C) the link right click it as I have shown and choose "Copy shortcut." (Both ways are the same, either way you are just copying the URL) You can post paste the URL (ctrl+P) in your post and share your files with others ^^

Congratulations! You now know how to use yousendits!
Now that you know how to use yousendit to share files, We hope that this will be a start for you to become a good jc.net citizen -- sharing files instead of just leeching.

If you are ready for more sharing, it'll be good if you learn how to use Yahoo briefcase. Unlike yousendits, Yahoo briefcase files are permanent, hence we prefer it. Please refer to the guides here (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12268) for information.

Tricks for Yousendit

Unlimited downloads for 7 days
The first and most useful trick is how to extend the download limit of your YSI past 25. First upload a file as you normally would. When you get your final URL
http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=XXXXX
(XXXXX is for the random letters and numbers)
Change the d to an e.

You can also use this when accessing other people's YSI, take the URL and replace the d to access what would otherwise be an expired or blocked link. Remember this will only work within 7 days of the upload.

Uploading files larger than 1GB
First I must say you are really quite a nice person to be uploading something that large. You can use Winrar (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12269) to split your file into smaller pieces. This also works for really large files that you want to just break up in general. It is also helpful when you want to combine all the songs of an album into one file so you don't have to upload each song individually.

FAQ

Q: What kinds of files can I send through yousendit?
A: You can send ANY type of file, of sizes up to 1GB. You cannot upload folders or directories however, for those I would recommend using Winrar (http://jay-chou.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12269)to compress them into one rar file.

Q: Who can use yousendit?
A: Anyone. Yousendit is a FREE service.

Q: What other alternatives are there to YSI for sharing files?
A: Right now at our forums we only use YSI as temporary file uploads, ie to fulfill file requests or for extremely large files (over 100MB etc). For most everything else we use Yahoo Briefcases as our premanent file storage. Another alternative to Yousendit is MegaUplad (formerly known ad Youshareit). It works in the exact same way as YSI except their files will stay on their servers as long as people continue to download them. Once people stop downloading the file, it will be deleted. File uploads to Megaupload will be treated the same as YSI for the time being.
You can access Megaupload here (http://www.megaupload.com/)

Q: Can YSI send files with Chinese/Korean/Japanese Filenames?
A: Yes it can. However your files will be renamed in the process and the chinese, Japanese or Korean will be removed. For example if your file was named Jay一路向北.mp3, it will be renamed to renamed_Jay.mp3.

Q: How long should it take to upload? I've been uploading forever and it is still not done!
A: How long it takes depends on your connection speed and the filesize. As it says on the uploading screen, 1MB can take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes. Also there was an issue of sometimes, yet rarely, that YSI gets stuck on the uploading screen and never take you to the final screen. Here is what you can do to check on this. When you filling out the e-mail, put in your own e-mail. That way you can check to see if you got the file and YSI is simply stuck. This is an extremely rare occurance and more likely than not, you are simply expecting your computer to be faster than it really is. =P

The 'd' to 'e' method is NOT working anymore. It'll tell you that it's an error link.

The only way to increase the number of downloads is by adding http://anonym.to/? in front of the link. For example :

http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

to

http://anonym.to/?http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

I hope you can change that trick. =)

Actually the trick still works. I dont know where you heard that it doesn't. If you click on any YSI link it will first take you to a "click here to download" page which isnt the download yet, but instead it redirects you to the page with a E, which then changes to complete.aspx

Yeah of course I know how it works because I did post this trick in the old thread before. Just that it got deleted and a new guide is created.

It's because a few weeks ago a lot people are having problems with it including me. I didn't hear it from someone else. Maybe sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Well, maybe it's just me. Sorry.

hi all, i dont know if anyone else has this problem but lately when i try to upload a song for someone on YSI, the first time i open the link in a different window, the link will work. but then later when i try to open the link, it says "the page cannot be found" or something like that. is this a technical problem with YSI or am i doing something wrong?

I have never experienced anything like that before, so I would recommend that you chec the link, and make sure it is the correct. I think this would most likely be the reason why its not working. Perhaps you can post the link here so we can try and see whats wrong with it.

yeah, that's what i've been doing is checking the link and make sure it works before posting it, and it'll show that it works, so i post it. but then later someone tells me my link doesnt work [and its like after a day or two that i uploaded the song] and i go check it, and indeed, it doesnt work! sometimes it says my file has been blocked, but i dont know why its like that.

so i just uploaded a korean song for someone, and when i first checked to see that it worked, the link was available. now the second time i tried it, it doesnt work!
http://s58.yousendit.com/d.php?id=14DJQ2VMUHXCW2YAPG1AVPG6CG

and a few days ago, i uploaded "learn chinese" for somebody and the link worked the first time. but then the person asking for the song said that it wouldnt download because either the transfer wasnt complete or the sender removed the file. however, i didnt touch it after i saw that the link worked.

^ i've been having such problems lately with links being blocked when no one has downloaded from them or the "page cannot be found" message. i'm guessing it must be something with YSI. now i have to check the link before i post it. usually, i don't check since i don't want to waste a click. so, i don't think you're doing anything wrong. just YSI's problem.

i had that problem a few days ago also...the new files i just uploaded gets blocked ><

i've noticed that only YSI links with the numbers following "http://s" of around 50 - 60+ gets blocked automatically when you post it on this site =/ so you'll have to check what server your file uploads to before posting here ...anything below 50 seems fine.

you should also make sure that the link you copied to post here has all the numbers and letters displayed or it won't work.

an example:
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.php?id=S...GK36ZFJPP3IIKG8
this link would be invalid because it's missing some numbers/letters in between

am i making any sense? :glug:  hope you guys understand what i mean :shy:

Thanks for the tip Jess, but if the number is above 50, what are we supposed to do? I don't think we can just change the number without it affecting the overall quality of the file.

yeahh i was wondering about why there were periods in there but thats how it was when i posted it.. didnt really realize it until later though. but honestly, i didnt check it until when i posted it to see if it worked. so i guess that was the problem. still, i'm having problems w. YSI.

thanks for the tip about the 50+ links, too!!

Umm.. what's your connection speed? Both downloading and upload speeds..

If you're on a 512kbps speed, it'll take around an hour.. Hmm.. Did ya know that UPLOADING is SLOWER than DOWNLOADING?

Recently, I can't open the YSI website. Not even the YSI home to upload files. Is anyone having the same problem too?
It has been like this for few weeks already. Everytime I open the YSI link, then it'll be "Page cannot be displayed". Help?

Hmm.. you could try not to use ysi for a while, and switch to megaupload. They'll tell you YOUR speeds for uploading stuff though.. maybe that would help. Or, use savefile, it's better than ysi cause it's semi-perm, but the downloading process is loads faster than megaupload. :wink2:

I agree with sean-eka. There are more and more servers nowadays. If you want to know your uploading status, sendspace.com has it too. But I don't know about the downloading rate.

hmmm i think so is megaupload...... its faster.. ysi very sark... it take very slow 2 upload a 5mb song also hmmm.... so don use ysi

lattae

but YSI's DL is much faster than megaupload, and YSI can go up to 1 gb.

Enough said. Each has it's own merit

So what if I am a mod. I'm not throwing my weight around.

I agree that megaupload is easier for the uploader, but downloading from megaupload is crappy. Not only is the speed slower, they will give you error messages like there are too many connections from your area.

I've got a question.. How to download from ysi if I have a link like this? http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=4E8116B5B4F1600F I've tried right-clicking on it but this transfer microsoft html doc came up, asking me to save it...

wackycashew

it's the beta version of YSI, which allows for 50 instead of just 25 downloads. people can sign up for a free account to upload to the beta version via http://www.beta.yousendit.com

anyway, to download, it's the same thing as regular YSI's. just click on the Download Now link below the title of the file in the center of the page.

EDIT:

if you want your regular YSI to last longer, you can try encrypting it with www.4zones.org. i've seen people downloading 50 times or more from these encrypted links instead of the usual 25. :-)
