Mmm i was suprised no one started a thread on Babyface since he's Jay's favourite artist. Babyface (real name Kenneth Edmonds) is a male contemporary R&B artist/song writter/producer in his 40's right now. Being a veteren, he's now past his best times, which was durin the 1990's in which he won 10 grammy's (not bad). He's more appreciated as a songwriter/producer for other artists (Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Usher) rather than for songs written/produced for himself. His specialities are slow jams/ballads.

Jay has indicated before in a radio interview that he would like to work with Babyface sometime in the future. Babyface has actually worked with an Asian artist already when he wrote and produced 'Missing You - It Will Break My Heart' for Japanese R&B artist Ken Hirai.

I don't really listen to his old albums (dating back to 1986 - he was part of various groups/bands durin the 1970's, 1980's) cause they're just too old-fashioned. Here are my favourite/recommended songs :-

1989 (Album - Tender Lover)
Soon As I Get Home
Where Will You Go
(The only 2 old-fashioned songs i like, both slow R&B ballads)

1993 (Album - For The Cool In You)
When Can I See You
(His most successful song, a guitar based R&B song)

1996 (Album - The Day)
Everytime I Close My Eyes
I Said I Love You
When Your Body Gets Weak
Seven Seas
The Day (that you gave me a son)
(All good quality slow jams)

2000 (Album - A Collection Of His Greatest Hits)
Reason For Breathing
When Men Grow Old
(Transition to modern R&B ballads with a nice beat to them)

2001 (Album - Face 2 Face)
There She Goes
What If
With Him
U Should Know
(A very diferent style to previous albums, he worked with The Neptunes on 'There She Goes', which is probably his best upbeat track. 'What If' is one of my favourite R&B songs of all time. 'With Him' is an excellant sad song which is touchin with a lot of emotion.)

2004 (Album - A Love Story)
Recommend whole album - standout track: The Loneliness
(This album is still to be officially released - current release date Nov 2004 - but it has become available on the internet. This album takes a return to his smooth ballad type love songs. It is a concept album about a love story as the title suggests and is better appreciated when you listen to the whole album rather than just single songs. But one standout single is 'The Loneliness' which is an amazing sad R&B ballad, a must listen.)

Overall definite must listens:-
What If
The Loneliness

Recommended songs which he wrote for other artists:-

I've not listened to all the tracks he's wrote for other artists, but i would recommend
Bedtime by Usher
End Of The Road by Boyz II Men
I'll Make Love To You by Boyz II Men

I actually love babyface's music. It's usually simple but really good, just like Jay's R&B songs. :wink2:

I have heard that collaboration with Ken Hirai and I thought it was soulfully done. Ken Hirai sang the song quite well too.

I think Babyface is open with collaborating with other artists. I'm aure if he knew about Jielun's desire to work with him and he'll hear Jielun's works, he will gladly oblige.

no offense... but did you bother to READ jaychou88's little mini bio on babyface at all???

so what if jay loved zhang zhi xue's music, he also likes Usher too. And he likes Chitose Hajime for her pitch control and obviously he must like Nan Quan Mama too since he pratically wrote the album. Common sense that since he writes so much of a variety he'd like other musicians aside from zhang zhi xue no? :excited:

oh i'm a fan of babyface too. he's like one of the world's greatest artists!
my favorite songs of his are reason for breathing, when can i see you again, everytime i close my eyes, i care about you (milestone), two occasions (the deele) and with him.
i didn't know that he has a new album! maybe because i rarely listen to radio and english songs anymore.
i had no idea that babyface was the one who wrote bedtime of usher! i absolutely love that song! one of the few songs i like from usher (coz i don't like him anymore). you guuys have to listen to the live version of that song! great rnb
in one of the pirated vcds my friend gave me, jay had a version of two occasions too. i am not sure of the title of it. do you guys know?
