I've loved him ever since he was a brand new actor, I think he's so handsome and so diao!!! He is definately my dream guy (along with all my other dream guys) because:

1) He speaks Mandarin
2) He speaks Taiwanese
3) He speaks Japanese
4) He speaks English
5) He speaks Cantonese

All the qualities I look for in a guy!! Oh, as well as:

A) He does martial arts
B) He Acts
C) He Sings
D) He has great fashion sense
E) He looks great in a trench coat

His most recent movie was "THE RETURNER" which was a good movie, quite entertaining. It just wasn't too original but who cares, we all just want to stare at Takeshi, right?

I think he is definately the hottest martial arts/action hero in Japan. So far there is no other actor that does Wushu like he does. And I'm extra happy because he speaks perfect Mandarin and is proud of his Chinese background!! Yay! Go Dream Man of Chun Li!!

God was definitely at his creative peak when he made takeshi. He is the only other male artiste that makes my heart pound the way Jay does. I LOVE takeshi kaneshiro. N the best part abt him? he's sooo understated, no silly publicity antics, no rumored gf's (that i know of), jus a pure simple devastatingly gorgeous man. i had to replay that scene couple of times. In fact I think my DVDs are a little jumpy these days if you come to that kissing part.. There was one scene in the car remember? He jus grabbed the gal and man, did he KISS her!!! Why is he so hot? i dont geddit. He's jus soooo damn freaking good looking. And u know in a report when they asked him which part of himself he didnt like, he said, "my teeth." Takeshi is quite the hotness.:D I have a friend who was a photographer for his album, but I don't know which one. She knows him from waaay back when. I met up with her in HK and she asked me if I knew who he was (YES!), and told me that she did the pictures for his album. And then she showed me one. (He's sitting in and armchair looking to his right...the coloring and everything was great!) I tried not to get too excited, but yeah. They still keep in touch, which is bery good to know...:D

yeah, i've watched those two movies (fallen angels and chungking express)... also saw Lavender... that movie was good! he's a good actor... very versatile... being multi-lingual has its benefits.

It was an indie film and it was pretty good. His english is all right. Out of all the languages, his english is the worst and most heavily accented.

The last news I got from an Indonesian magazine for Asian stars is that he's starring in a J-dorama that has something to do with him being a bowler. Has anyone seen that? I think my first encounter with Takeshi was from the movie Mermaid....(I think that's what its called in english). The movie also starred Ekin Cheng (not yet famous as he is now) and Christy Cheung (as the mermaid). Anyone know the movie Im talking about? He was still very young in that movie....I think it's almost 10 years ago.......He's so cute......I instantly fell for those dimples and melancholic eyes.......

vinka, i remember that movie... i think i've watched every single movie he's been in, well almost. that was a pretty forgettable movie actually, i mean he looked good as always, but the story was kinda blah.
I love takeshi's voice when he speaks, it reverberates with a toxifying manliness and sensuality, esp when he speaks Japanese. :drool: Yes, u can tell im a fan... please try not to rent any dubbed movies, settle for subtitles and immerse yourself in that oh-so-sexy voice. As for singing, it's not something he's known for. He did some teenybopper songs when he first started out, so his vocals are pretty raw and immature in that sense. I think he hasn't sung in ages now?

The Returner is basically about this guy who is a thief and runs into an old enemy during one of this stints. Well, a girl from the future drops into the scene at that point, and he finds out that the planet is in trouble unless he can help her change the future. So its a sci-fi movie. He looks sexy as hell in it. If you search "The Returner" on google, there should be several results. I'll post some trailers up this weekend. He is one sexy mofo in it, even though the movie is just a typical sci-fi movie with moves copied from the Matrix, even. But who cares. Go Takeshi!

The first I heard about Takeshi was through some friends who went to karaoke. Apparently the room they got had this huge poster of him on the door that took up half the door space. The were staring at it the whole time not knowing who he was. I kept hearing about this mystery guy and then they showed me pictures they took with the door that night. Pretty crazy. Then I got this copy of Esquire with Lee Hom on it and there was free calendar, with Takeshi as January.:) That was when I learned his name.

In Thailand temperatures reached a scorching 40 degrees Celsius, and not a bit of wind in the air. In order to produce the effect of satisfaction that comes from drinking the bottled water, crew members brought in two planes, and using the propellers to generate the wind effect. Takeshi’s hair and clothes can be seen as if going against the wind, looking really cool.

Takeshi sweated a lot during the shoot, despite the winds blowing to cool him down. He kept changing clothes and kept drinking, and at the end of the shoot, he drank a total of 8 bottles of water!

The commercial was deemed a success and some have realized that Takeshi shows his chest for the commercial and it seems to have gotten bigger. Unfortunately, the commercial won’t be shown in Taiwan, but don’t worry. In “Go left, Go right”, Takeshi has a scene in which he comes out of the shower half naked, and one will know if Takeshi really reveals anything only if they watch the movie.

Okay, I rented GOLDEN BOWL (Takeshi's latest Japanese Drama)

And it's good!! I talked to the guy at the video store and I asked him if he was stupid, and he goes, "It's about bowling, what do you expect?"

But I watched it and it was good! Takeshi does a good job in this movie! He's so cute!! He's not "diao" like he was in God Please Give Me Some More Time, but he's still good looking nonetheless.

The story is about this guy (Takeshi) who likes to bowl after work. He is good friends with the owner of a bowling center called Golden Bowl (hence the name of the dorama) and the owner is really old and about to be forced to give up the bowling center to be turned into a Love Hotel by some dirty looking mafia type men. So Takeshi has to save it by bowling in tournaments (at least up until episode two anyway).

Well there's this lady that also bowls there named Hitomi who's husband is cheating on her. Takeshi and her get off on the wrong foot (she uses his bowling locker) but since they live across the street from each other (surprise, surprise) they argue a lot. Anyways, since she's good at bowling too,

Takeshi: I can bowl 1,000,000 average.
Hitomi: I can bowl 1,500,000 average!


they start to pair off against others during the tournaments. It turns out that Takeshi's character is hung up on this girlfriend who died in a car accident.

I wonder how this will turn out? But it's good so far and he looks really really really really good in it!

i like the film 'lost and found' which he did pretty early on with kelly chen. it's quite adorable in it and i like the idea of a girl losing hope and asking a boy who owns a lost and found company to look for an intangible thing. it gets sappy and predictable but the idea still is very fresh. too bad the entire screenplay. i think the movies he does with kelly is rather unusual.

there is also 'anna madagalene' which has kelly and aaron kwok. the first half is rather boring, but it takes off in the later half of the film which things speed up a bit in a fantasy twist. but you do come out not understanding the point of it all.

'lavender' does have kelly in it. i didn't like the idea of him being an angel. the story is so so and slow, but compared to movies that typical hong kong films are made of, it is considered okay.

and certainly his outbreak is his part in 'chungking express' and 'fallen angels', both films by wong kar wai. these are both very enjoyable as christopher doyle has amazing cinematography in it. and wkw's storylines are funny and quirky. would recommend these two first as they are an acquired taste.

His character reminded me of an anime character called spike from cowboy bebop(not sure if anyone has heard of it but i highly recommend it if you like anime series)

Just not too keen on anna madagalene and house of flying daggers, I mean he is a great actor but those movies didn't do it for me as much as returner. And i love that he can speak so many languages. i saw a press conference he did in japan for HOFD and he switched between mandarin and japanese and i was just :drool: oh and his english is pretty good, very deep manly voice that makes you go weak at the knees :tongue:

He usually speaks in Cantonese for HK movies & Chinese for TW movies. In HOFD really both he & Andy Lau actually spoke Cantonese. The Chinese dubbing was done by China voice-overs. Which made it sound weird cos we are all used to listening to Takeshi being VO-ed by a certain voice.. :sweat:

His oldest songs from the 90s are really hard to find online, anyway. Right now, if you want to hear how he sounds today, if you go buy the Perhaps Love OST (or go watch the movie), you can hear his deep manly vocals. I think he sings in about three songs on the soundtrack that you can hear. ^^

When Takeshi Kaneshiro closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep, he dreams in Japanese. Usually. "It depends on the people in the dream," says the actor, 32. Born in Taipei to a Chinese mother and a Japanese father, he spoke the Taiwanese dialect as his first language. Growing up, he conversed mainly in Japanese and Mandarin, but he's also fluent in Cantonese and English. He lives in Taiwan but travels on a Japanese passport and makes Hong Kong, mainland-Chinese and Japanese films.
No wonder Kaneshiro is an Asian star like no other. Also known as Gum Sing-mo in Cantonese and Jin Chengwu in Mandarin, he combines well-honed dramatic skills; a classic, refined handsomeness, and the versatile appeal necessary to lure filmgoers throughout the vast region into cinemas—despite easy access to pirated DVDs. Now, in the new Chinese musical "Perhaps Love," Kaneshiro delivers a striking performance in a film that should appeal to a broader audience abroad, where moviegoers have grown more accustomed to lavishly filmed martial-arts epics. The film, which broke box-office records in China when it opened in early December, is Hong Kong's bet for a 2006 foreign-language-film Academy Award nomination.
In "Perhaps Love," Kaneshiro draws on his beginnings as a pop-music idol to play Lin Jiandong, an actor tortured by love. Lin finds himself in contemporary Shanghai working on a glamorous picture with the woman who left him a decade earlier to pursue stardom. The actress, played by China's brilliant Zhou Xun ( "Baober in Love," "The Little Chinese Seamstress"), is sleeping with the director (Hong Kong's Jacky Cheung Hok-yau). The tale of passion unfolds through song-and-dance numbers that range from high drama to sheer opulence.
Produced by American Andre Morgan, who made "Million Dollar Baby," the unusual project appealed to Kaneshiro in large part for the opportunity to work with Hong Kong director Peter Chan Ho-sun ("The Love Letter"), whom he considers one of the best in Asia. He's also often been drawn to love stories. "Love—or hate—you cannot escape from these," he says. He made a name for himself playing a lovelorn Hong Kong cop in "Chungking Express" (1994), directed by auteur Wong Kar-wai, whom Kaneshiro credits with helping him make the leap from singing to acting. After establishing himself in Chinese show business, he broke into the Japanese market by starring in several popular TV serials, then doing films like 1998's "Misty," a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Rashomon." Most recently he received top billing in "The House of Flying Daggers," Zhang Yimou's martial-arts film that was nominated last year for a foreign-language Golden Globe award. But he considers himself essentially a dramatic actor. "I am not a martial-arts actor," he says. "I'll never be Jackie Chan [or] Jet Li."
While mainstream Western audiences have embraced such action stars, they have been slower to accept Asia's dramatic actors as leading men. Kaneshiro could change that. In 1998 he made the small, obscure U.S. picture "Too Tired to Die," with Mira Sorvino, and is constantly being courted by Hollywood directors.
But for now, Kaneshiro remains cautious about Hollywood. Though his English is excellent, he says he finds speaking it "weird" and is reluctant to take on other English-speaking roles. Furthermore, he thinks Hollywood still has a way to go in creating complex and believable Asian characters. "Most of the time, when Asians are in Hollywood movies, the part that they can get is very stereotyped," he says. "I never felt interested." But that doesn't mean he never will. "I have read some scripts, and I think the style is changing because they want to go to China. They are fixing things. I think it's good for the actors—the range of characters in the movies is larger than before. So we'll see."
Outside of his impressive filmography, Kaneshiro's private life remains private, the way he likes it. He describes himself as a regular guy who likes to "go out with friends and family, drink, watch movies, read books." He favors philosophy, classical Chinese literature and manga, Japanese illustrated novels. Kaneshiro rarely gives interviews because, he claims, he doesn't know what to say. If anything, the mystery surrounding him has made him more appealing to his fans, says Hong Kong-based actress, independ-ent filmmaker and script-writer Silvia Chang Aichia. Chang, who cast Kaneshiro as the leading man in her acclaimed 1999 movie "Tempting Heart," says: "He has a star quality that I haven't seen in anybody else. He's good-looking, charming, he can act—and it all comes out on screen."
Indeed, Jacky Cheung's grand scenes and rich vocals may dominate "Perhaps Love." But it is Kaneshiro's Lin who touches hearts and makes audiences swoon. Now it's only a matter of time before the rest of the world falls in love with him.

For those who missed it like me, this is a translation of him being on CNN. Not sure if it is all of the interview or just a small part.

The interview was in English, no translator was required. Once again Takeshi Kaneshiro’s is being interviewed by CNN.

Growing up in Taiwan and since coming into the entertainment circle, he was dubbed as one of the Young Heavenly Kings. Takeshi said that by not giving up any chances of performance did he manage to find his true interest.

Takeshi Kaneshiro: “Realize that acting make me very happy and making movies is wonderful.”

Wong Ka Wei (the director who directed 2046) doesn’t use scripts to rehearse. An angry scene can rehearse 20 to 30 times. This causes Taksehi to fall in love with acting and made up his mind to be an actor.
Later co operating with Zhang Yi Mo fulfils his dream.

Takshi Kaneshiro: “Listening to him (Zhang Yi Mo) talking is like watching a movie. He is a good story teller.”

Talking about the movie, Memoir of the Geisha, Takeshi said it is the pride of Asia but still hope that the geishas can speak Japanese.

Being asked about whether he is planning to go into Hollywood, Takeshi replied that he is more interested on being a Hollywood viewer than a participator.

In 1999, Takeshi had already being interviewed by CNN. This time Takeshi had not only communicated fluently in English throughout the interview but also show he has the air of an international artist earning the endless praising of the CNN reporters.

I've just got to revive this thread by sharing this piece of good news.

Charismatic Takeshi san is going to act in a new movie with Tony Leung! :excited: It's named, 傷城 (directly translated as the City of Hurt/Sadness). Tony Leung will be potraying a high post police inspector who engaged in a drugs transaction while Takeshi will be the rightful low-post policeman who wants to overthrow the bad. It'll be a battle of mind games between them. Takeshi will arrive in HK next month and filming will start thereafter. The movie will directed by the same two directors of Infernal Affairs Trilogy and Initial D.

It's been a long time since Takeshi acted in such police-and-thief hero movie. Another movie to look forward to. :wink2:
