Well, i believe everyone shld noe tat Mediacorp n Mediaworks had so called merge n Mediacorps is the bigger boss... so wat do u think abt their merging? do u think is a good idea? will it help boost singapore's entertainment biz? for me i personally think tat it is a good idea cos singapore has a small industry only n mergin will mean more unity n will produce better shows to go globally... n with two companies effort, there will definitely be more quality shows! the show which i can't wait for them to have is City Beat which used to be hosted by Sharon Au, Bryan Wong, Kym Ng n Huang Shu Fang... hope tat will be together to host City Beat again cos they are the best team to host City Beat... no one can replace them.. hehe...

I think it's more like Mediaworks will be the subsidary of Mediacorps. If this would be the case, then I don't see why there must be a competition in the very first place, where in the very end this company will be bought over.
A merger will not boost the Quality of Singapore Entertainment Biz, it'll mean that after the so-called merger, the quality level might go back to what it was a few years back before Mediaworks commenced business, which was totally SUCKS!
Because it'll be back to a so-called "monopoly" state in Entertainment Showbiz in Singapore. SO, the company might not even care about the quality of the show after all, because they know that the audiences will watch TV even if the quality of the show sucks...
But when Mediaworks came out 3 years ago, they came out with a bang, they redefined how variety shows can be made, how talk shows can hosted and how news broadcasting can be broadcasted in a different way. All these things forced Mediacorps to wake up and forced them to produce better shows in order to combat what Mediaworks was giving, that was when Entertainment Biz in Singapore brighten up...
But if the merger is to be true, then I don't think I'll be watching TV as much as I do now...

Hopefully the merger won't change the quality of the show. I still want to watch my hk and korean drama from channel u! But it is quite stupid, open competition 3 years ago, now say mkt too small. Waste of money and resources! Hopefully the channels won't become complacent or else we will be having lousy quality shows!

I really think it is breaking the hearts of many mediaworks' people...
I mean... no doubt some left for money and a whole dozen of reasons... it is evident that they put in a lot of efforts to make things work... personally, i still prefer the kind of things that's coming out of mediawork instead of mediacorp.
Hopefully, this wouldn't be the end of good shows... i mean, if u all noticed the channel 8's drama, they are all of the same kind.. it kinds of put me off... I mean, where are all those good shows that they used to have in the past? Like the vampire thingy (不老传说) and all those sci-fic dramas... Now they are all so "moral" and "standard" stories... i mean we watch TV for the fun of it.. Not for the sake of some bloody indoctrination... *sorry if i sounded harsh... i just feel so disappointed in the eventual 'merger')
If they are going to do the same to Channel U... i might just stick to cable instead...

Recently, Wan Quan Yu LE in channel U has stopped playing.. I heard my friend say that the reason for that might be merge of this 2 associations. I also duno lah.. What will be the outcome of the merge?
Just read from a Friendster account of my friend.
To all Wan Yu fans..
Wan Yu didn't show in channeL U is coz of sum
sesonaL change... not coz of channel 8....
but rest assured it will be back soon..!
By the way, does Channel U have a streamer in their website? I wanna watch "The Champions". :depresse:

Hmm I just hope we'll be able to have a mix of wacky channel u shows and channel 8 tv dramas.. i don't really care, as long as the artistes have good chemistry, and the shows are not boring.
the only thing that is of concern is tv viewers like us. :bleh: jkjk hopefully there will be some good shows sometime soon.
Lookin forward to RenCi charity show tommorow. :D:D (did anyone see jay advertising for renci? sad that he aint coming.. )

just one word bout this merging thingy....sucks
look its more like mediacorp is eating up mediaworks....coz all i see is people from channel u move to channel 8 and channel u have to change their timing in order to fix to channel 8's....come on whats that man...what the hell did channel 8 do? just changed their chinese name to " ba pin dao"....
i feel so unfair for channel u

hmm.. i'm not trying to sound harsh here but i really cant help it!! why did mediacorp stop playing jacky wu's shows?? if they cannot produce shows of those quality.. why stop playing his shows?? :rasp: and i can say that the Huan Le Dian Feng sucks..!!
i hope people who also like jacky wu's show will agree with me.. and i've considered sending a email to media-CRAP (oops.. its mediaCORP) to complain about the stop of his shows.. but i dont know the email address..
Seems like besides Jacky Wu's shows, MediaWorks has also taken out Wan Yu, citing seasonal change as excuse, and then promising us that they will be back! God knows how many episodes we would have missed, or how "outdated" the shows will be when they are finally brought back.
I didn't really know about it until last week, which I find it funny as I've missed Jacky's Wu shows for almost 2 months on Mon/Tue and wanted to catch them again. I failed to find the shows on both days, they were showing all Korean dramas! And those Korean dramas are like, duh-I've watched them from Cable already months back!!!
I wonder if Ch 8 is gonna turn Ch U into another BORING Ch 8! Ew...nothing interesting to look forward. Just stick to my cable then.

hey i'm with you...lets discuss bout what we should write in the letter...
dear media crap/crop,
i feel that the arrangment of channel u totally sucks. if you wanna eat up channel u....you gotta get over me first...and many many others...
coz your channel simply sucks. dont think that by doing something so terrible to channel u will help you in anyways....i, on behalf of more than 50% of singaporeans, demands that you give channel u back to us!
lots of love(hatred),
kasic
ok hows that? :D

great one kasic_fantasy :D.. but anyone knows the email address or mail address of that Media-crap?? really can't take the crap shows they are showing us on TV now..
I noticed there wasn't anything interesting on the 7pm and 9pm slot. I hate those "gu zhuang" shows! Gosh....I didn't know which channel to turn to. Usually have my dinner on Ch 8 at 7pm. But know I thought I might as well skip tv altogether. Only watch Kang Xi Lai Le on Ch 52, which sometimes really gives us some fantastic laughs till you cry.
kasic and GeQian, maybe you both might want to length your letter a bit. Get everyone to add on a sentence or two, before long I think u gonna have a decent long letter dissing them! I guess they won't want to publish their email address, they would make it such that it is difficult to find on their website! Hahaha......I guess u know what i mean.
My contribution:
I know u MediaCorp is feeling really bloated after the big feast, but I hope you would WAKE up soon and DO some work before you kill us Singaporeans with your stupid boring shows. Let's not just push all your plans to April OKAY?! Last word to you: YOU SUCK....

add to the letter:
we know that you are not capable of producing high quality shows like that of Jacky Wu.. and you do not have any talented host in your company.. but there is no point cancelling their shows, forcing us to watch yours.. i rather watch the Vasandam(not sure about the spelling ).. although i don't understand the language but at least i can avoid all the lame joke you throw at us.. :-x so watch out.. if i ever get my hands on SCV.. i will tune-off channel 8 from my tv set..
edit:
look guys.. look what i found at the media-CRAP website..

guys.. i guess its time to take action.. :brows:

as i dont have SCV, i didnt know singapore shows are so lousy, until there's Channel U. it was then i started watching taiwan dramas and entertainment news shows like wan quan yu le, not to forget entertaining shows like the guess show. and now, they are all GONE! :realmad: am glad that it would be back in april. still, no one's stopping me from subscibing to SCV! even if it means paying for it myself. i'm not going to make do with those stupid shows by Mediacorp. All they want is for us to stop getting so crazy over taiwan artistes and start supporting local artistes and shows again. but i'm simply sick of seeing zoe tay, fann wong etc still there after decades! :profanit: seems like in future, Channel 8 and U will only cater to the older generation. if they dont continue showing taiwan variety shows, i believe they gonna have a tough fight for ratings with SCV in no time!

Oh, anyway, I read from the Life! section of The Straits Times a few days ago that "I Guess" will be back on Channel U on 26 Feb 05, 9.30pm. Whereas for "Jacky Go Go Go", it will be back in April, day and time not confirmed though. Yeah, and I'm looking forward to the shows. Another show I miss a lot is "Wan Quan Yu Le". Although it's a "crap" show, I still find it entertaining. Well, I hope Channel U will bring back "WQYL" again...

I felt really pity for channel U, I thought that the reason why channel U is because they wanted to compete with cable tv together so as to attract more viewers, but from the arrangements of the programmes in channel U, I think Mediacorp is still seeing channel U as an outsider, in some ways like, Mediacorp is trying to attract viewers to watch channel 8 and not channel U for example like the chinese new year programmes, we can see that mediacorp is only giving the new movies to channel 8 and the old ones to channel U, I feel that the movies should be given to each channel equally and not like that, it sounds a little bias to me.
The other thing that I feel bad about is the Taiwan variety shows, from the start of the merging, I can see that they are cancelling the usual variety shows and only broadcast the older shows, I think that is also another way on how mediacorp is bias of channel U.
I hope all these problems can be solve in the years to come...

Well... personally, i really think that Channel U's variety shows used to be great... the drama, though at times a little boring, are better compared to the Channel 8 one.
*Note to Mediacorp: If you all could, can you all bring back the producers of channel u who can make better shows? Better watch television for entertainment nowadays and moral stories should stick to educational programs that they used to show in primary schools in the 90s. NOT on evening slot...
And i really miss Shi Zhi Lu Kou...

I heard that Dee Hsu's (Xiao S) [Yu Le Xin Wen] will be aired on Channel U. Is it true? It's been ages since I've watch a Taiwan entertainment show. Hm...I wonder why it isn't [Wan Quan Yu Le]. But any nice Taiwan entertainment shows will be fine with me.

When they merge, I heard Channel 8 is targetting mature audiences, e.g. People over 40. And Channel U is targetting at younger audiences. My thoughts at that time was how are those artist going to cooperate with each other? Isn't the line drawn very clear before the merge?
Its a sad thing that the Singapore market here is too small. *sighs* Or else, we have more choices by now.
