firstly, i would like to say i am certainly a great fan of jie lun..but let's
face it, every singer would sonner or later stop singing n jus retire...for
jay, i think if he is sick of being in the limelight so often, he would 'retire'
to be in the background composing songs for others..i believe his passion
for music is deep enough for him to continue to write songs..n i will still
support him...i guess he will continue to be in the foreground singing for
ard the next 5 yrs b4 he goes into backgroung composing...so wat u guys think??

i do wish he could sing as long as he could.. but of coz i do agree that singer's life span is short.. tt's undeniable.. but.. let's just say.. ''live for the moment''.. enjoy his songs as much as we can when he's still there to sing n compose.. he's da best..

well, there will be a time that he retires, just like many singers, but i remember reading that he hopes to sing until his 50's but he says even after he retires, he won't stop making music, but since we cannot see the future, nobody knows how long he will stay in the music biz, probably even he doesn't know, until the right time.

Well, I would think Jay would last a looong time before actually leaving the music world. Many artists make music long into their lives, many lasting for years.
Miles Davis didn't stop until he died, and he was around 70-80 something when he gave his last concert.
So, I guess, I'll hold out hope that Jay will be around for awhile yet. I won't ever stop being a fan, even if he does stop making music.

if J choose to stay in the foreground with current style, i'd give another 3 years max. in his late 20's , J could concentrate into a more adult/ mature image and this could last forever. wish that he would collaborate more with local / international artists - younger or older and stay in the foreground !. let's get old together with J's music, :)

Well, I think Jay would stay longer than any male singers around.
Since he's like a sponge when it comes absorbing any style of music. And about that "DIAO" thing, not following others, surely will make his presence in the music industry stays "fresh". :) (At least that's what I hope)
But I guess I give him 5-7 years. So, the total album would be at least 10 :p (Then I'll be a happy bunny listening to 100 of his songs) :excited: :excited: :excited:
But after that, I would still expect him to compose for other artist, so I can still taste his talents. Maybe he would be the producer that rise up new talents like how Jacky Wu found him. But eventhough he's not in the showbiz anymore, I'm sure his dedication to music would stay forever in his heart.

I think he would continue to compose songs, for other singers...
And maybe once in a while, he would come out and have a concert... and us old fans by then would still go and support him...

eek, i cant imagine jay having 100 songs... It will be a pain to memorise all of them!
But I'm sure he will stay famous for a long time, and maybe slow down the releae rate of his albums, maybe to about 1 album every 2 years

It all depends on him. People change. Maybe 4 or 5 years later, he decides not to sing anymore and begin to write songs only. Who knows he might become a very renowned songwriter?!

maybe until his back really cant take it anymore?
if not, im sure he'll continue..he said he wants to spread his style
of song to the whole world right? hehehe..i think even his back cant take it anymore, he'll still go on writing songs for other artists. :D
Who knows he might become a very renowned songwriter?!
probably he'll be the modern mozart or beethovan. hehehee!

.. A long time.
He'd probably stop singing at 30ish but would probably still write songs and become a producer or director. Joy!

i think he'll definitely be around for quite a while.. maybe another 5-6 years? then again people like andy lau and jacky cheung have lasted more than 10 years.. even leslie cheung lasted over 20 years.. i don't expect him to be jumping about at 30 plus but he'll definitely be around to compose music for us and spot and develop new talent.. of cos occationally holding concerts for us.. i think jay will represent an era in chinese music.. like how teressa teng did in the 60s.. (or is it 70s? hmm,)

I think he would actually leave centrestage when he finally gets married and settles down. So, that would probably be when he's in his mid-30s. However, as most have pointed out, he'd continue making music. Maybe do more producing and composing. He'd then probably reprise his centrestage role along the way again. Hence, I think he'll be around for a very long time. You know, how singers like Gao Lingfeng are still around? But just not at the centre of attention?
Anyway, Jay once said that the day he stops making music is the day when the world comes to an end. So, not to worry, we'll still be hearing much of Jay in the many, many years to come. :D
Hmm..can you imagine Jay with white hair? or wrinkles? I think he'd look so adorable. Or can you imagine when he has kids and his kids grow up? They might enter the entertainment biz as well. Think Patrick Tse and Nic Tse. We'd all be old by then and we'd reminisce adoringly at how we once went mad over Jay Chou.
Am I thinking too far?

i agree with Nunchakus! when he has a wife and kids and wants to settle down and have his own time with them without the show biz business taking up his time! i think his wife is gonna tell him to stop, i mean, wouldn't a wife want her own husband to spend more time with her rather than doing show biz stuff?
I COULD IMAGINE HIM WITH WHITE HAIR AND WRINKLES! he would look cute, but when it gets worse, i don't think it'll look so cute anymore...
i think his kids will be really proud that they have such a father that was a really good singer and has so many GREAT FANS!

He'd be as sensational even when he ages. Just like Paul McCartney. I doubt he'll ever 'retire' from the music scene, he'd continue to give advice to novices and let his positive musical influence continue for decades to come.
He's the new King of Mando-pop, remember? As long as I'm concerned, I deem him as the new age musical icon, a legend to be forever reckoned with, and not put aside by merely the term 'retired'. :)

Well i'm hoping he'll be around for as long as he can and not necessarily just singing either. Very rarely do we get people with such amazing talent as Jay's and it would certainly be a great lost to the music industry if he 'retires' from it or 'disappears'....

i think jay COULD go a very long way, if he keeps making music the way he does.
but i think jay would probably like to go and become a producer even though he could last forever.

think jie lun may end up being a composer at mebbe 30+. Being a singer iz not that long. Even if he retires as a singer, mebbe he have a desciple then i will support the person. :)

i think he'll keep singing until his late 20s and if he's settled down with a girlfriend, he'd focus on his personal life. he'll probably keep writing songs for other people until... 40s? who knows

this is a topic i try to avoid thinking about, cuz the thought of jay ending his career is too painful for me.... how can i live without him having new cd's and stuff?? ahhh! (I love his old stuff of course, but i want my jay collection of music to be neverending)
realistically speaking, i think he will keep doing it until people no longer appreciate his music for its artistic value. (e.g. if the market becomes too focused on packaging and stuff instead of the true music)

wow! if it is true then i'll be rich!! hahaha~ just jk
if it's true by then, there is no worth in music anymore.
if no music in my life.......NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
i cant let this happen to me!!!!

Hey to all:
Think Jay will continue singing til he is bout 30.. by then he may want to settle down and he is not the kind to wana spend time juggling both areas.. really think that singing has held him up in that area as with most other artists..
Although we all love Jay n his music very much and does not want him to stop.. i do think his future lies in composing and songwriting/producing.. thats where he started and thats where some pple gets real recognition.. he will also have satisfaction penning songs for established singers.. knowing tt his songs helps make someone famous is a very satisfying recognition..

Well personally, I think that he could last very long in the showbiz. He sure has the talents and values he's music like a true artist. I guess if he were to get out of the spotlight, then I think that it'd be his choice not because people started getting sick and tired of him.

Not too sure about how long Jay will go on singing. But pretty sure he will not stop composing as i agree with Ninjabeast that thats where his future is.
Jay is really such a precious talent and it has really given a whole new image to the Taiwanese music industry. Really like some of the songs he composed for other singers. Especially liked Re Dai Yu Ling (SHE) and Bu La Ge Guang Chang (Jolin). Real classics, both of them.

I definitely hope that he will "last" as long as possible, besides, he has got MANY MANY fans, (including me ;]). But his passion for music will always be there...it's hard to say. perhaps he will head towards directing a movie? or he will be making er....classical music? As long as he keeps on making music, even if he becomes a behind-the-scenes guy, I will still love and appreciaite his music.

yeah i agree ..i think that jay will last a long time all of we here are loyal fans right? well jay may stop singing when he about 30+ but then he'll still compose songs for others. i personally think jay will stay in the showbiz for a long time cause jay really have talent i think mostly of his fans really like jay for his talents more than his looks so i think he'll be here for some long time. unlike other artist who get famous for looks like if they gets old or they don't look as good as before people would stop liking them but jay is always making good music so i think he will be in the showbiz for a long time.
ya the fans will hope that jay stays ard for as long as possible... but i think his singing career may not last that long, since his passion is still producing music. a singer needs to stay in the limelight so i guess once jay settles down he probably would retire frm the singing industry, as he wouldn't want his family's privacy to be intruded on. but we can still count on him to produce gd music..

erm.... i think he'll quit whenever he thinks is appropriate....
or when he feels that he wants to start somethin new...yeah...:)
but then his passion for music will never die...this i can be sure of...

He will continue for a long long time...Even if he retires, he will never stop making music. He'll help ne newcomers to make it very big...He just lives for the music :D. Without him, music is just isn't music anymore.

I think Jay will retire when he's around 30 (like 29 or 31 or something) I think he'll still be composing music for other people. But I dunno... He might start acting then his career could be a little longer... I kinda doubt though cause he's already acting in his MVs. I hope he doesn't retire that soon though, I want his music to last a little longer!

I think Jay somewhere in his 30's or even 40's cause he's doing really great now, album sales r doing really awesome!!! I hope that when he retires he'll still make music 4 other ppl so we'll still have something to remember him by. :) I really hope that he'll make music even longer, cause I just never get tired of it!!!!! :bleh: But I mean he's not gonna retire till a long time, all I'm worried bout is if I'll still remember him when I'm older..... :hmm:

well....it is quite difficult to predict when he will retire
but all i can say is that he is a very talented person ...
so i do not know what will happen if such a talented person
retires.....people may soon lose interest in other songs?? :? ...
well maybe not....but i guess he may retire at around 30+ or so...
Will any Jay fans soon do not support him when he gets older???

Think Jay will end up jsut being a composer. He will eventually fade into doing background work as i think he is incredibly talented and he can certainly contribute alot more to the industry, although he is already doing alot for other artists at the moment.
He does say he may consider stopping when it is time for him to settle down. Thinks its only natural as all singers goes through phases of ups and downs and Jay has had his fair share of ups i guess. He must not have known that he would be this popular when he started.
Thinks he can be pretty much the evergreen kinda singer. Much like Jacky Cheung. Still have the appeal after all these years.

Of coz, for as long as he lives..
when he feels that he should retire, he will step down..
but i wouldn't want to see jay gone..
so far, jay is doing so well.. we all love his music.. i don't think he'll want to disappoint his fans right?
ya.. and i agree if he really retires, he will still continue to be a composer of songs for other outstanding singers.. or maybe, he might be like Jacky Wu, and hunt for stars like how he was hunted back then~! haha..
aiyah.. with his talent, i just think he can do so much things IF he really ends in showbiz.. we'll just have to wait and see whether this day will come... (its like, yanzi resigning 1yr from the showbiz industry..)

i think jay has a lot of staying power. so, he'll probably be involved in the showbiz for a long, long time. look at jacky cheung, married with wife and daughter, and is still in the business. even if jay grows old and may not want to do a lot of on-stage performances or put out albums anymore, he'll probably retreat to the background and keep on writing/producing/arranging music for other artists. he may write soundtracks for movies. that'd be cool! and yeah, as someone mentioned, if he ventures into acting, that'll also broaden and sustain his career a bit more. in any case... as long as he has our support, i believe he will continue to pursue his love for music considering it's such a huge part of his life.

I really do hope that Jay could make it 10 years or more to prove to my DAD that Jay is not just another "artist fever" (like F4 or Backstreet Boys) who only stays for 1-5 years. B'coz my dad doesn't seem to believe that Jay could last long.
