What is a signature?
The little saying or image (also called a banner) that is posted under every post you make

How do I add a banner?
1. Find an image you like

2. If the image is on your computer, you need to upload it to some site

3. Get the url to the image, it should be something like http://www.somepage/myimage.gif

4. Click on the 'User CP' link above to access your preferences

5. Click on 'Edit Signature' under Settings & Options of your control panel

6. In the text box type in the url of the image like this:

http://www.webpost.net/dk/dkstuff/bannercode.gif

There can't be any spaces between the [img] tags and the url
It's normal for it to skip automatically to the next line, as long as you don't press the Spacebar or Enter key to make it skip
Remember NO SPACES!

7. Click 'Save Changes' at the bottom and you're done

When creating your banner, please keep the BANNER RULES (http://www.jay-chou.net/bannerrules.htm) in mind

Ok I was wondering, could I have banners like 200x200 pixels? I know it breaks that 150 maximum width rule, and I know that I can always reduce the width while contraining proportions, but it makes the banner really small. Sometimes, I don't want to have to resize only the width to 150 just to fit the width max, as it would make the image look strange..

Take for example my banner

http://webpost.net/me/melvinlow2/banner11.jpg

It's dimension is 245 x 203 pixels. It's total area would be 49735, which satisfies rule 1 of max 50k area.

And you can't be stupid and have a banner like 900x10 because that breaks the 400 width rule)

I know thats what I'm requesting, but its not from 400 to 900, but from 150 to 200..

So would this banner be allowed in signatures?

I guess the idea behind limiting the "height" is so that signatures don't take up too much vertical space. Else the users of this forum will spend time scrolling a lot just to read a few lines of post.

I know I'm not a mod/admin, but I'd say that rules should be kept? I mean, if every other member comes along and tells us that they need to "bend" it in this xxx manner, then it'd be hard to "standardise". If we say yes to your request, then we'll have to say yes to the others how come by with other reasonable variations...

I am sure you can find a pic that fits in the standards right?

The rules are plain and simple, not that hard to understand or follow. Believe me, I have tons of images that I'd love to use but they'd break the banner rules, so I just don't use them. Either that, or I'd try to find a creative way to use them, eg. resize them, rotate them, etc. lattae is right. If every member asks to bend the rules, in the end, there'd be no rules anymore.

Ok sure thanks I'll just have to think of a better way to use my banners! Sorry about it. ;)

file size for each picture:850kb!! :)

We don't need to register? :? Does that mean another person would be able to access our files then? :?

erm..there is not a specific account for the user in imageshack..so what they give you after u uploaded a image is just a url :)
try it :wink2:

I know. I uploaded a random image of Nakashima Mika. I mean, would a person be able to find the URL for my images though? Like, with photobucket, you can't just look at somebody's directory, but you can actually do that with webpost. In fact, you can just look at anybody's directory. So how does that new thing works?

i think the main purpose of this website is to upload picture to post in forum :shy:

ImageShack(TM) is a free image hosting solution. It can be used to share pictures with friends, as well as post images on message boards and blogs. It can also be used to direct link images from your personal website or online auction. And best of all, it's completely free.
the url?
i think the person cannot find the image unless you give him/her the exact url of the image

vunsin
06-15-2004, 08:37 AM
So they can't just delete the last part of the URL to get to the directory, right? Like, with webpost, if my url is <http://www.webpost.net/vu/vunsin/fruits/starfruitbanner.gif>, you could just take out <starfruitbanner.gif> and see whatever other files that I've uploaded! And if you take out <vunsin>, you could see all other webpost accounts that start with <vu>! Hate that.

ya..can't..
because there is no specific account in imageshack
i uploaded a pic to test it
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/3267/qn6.jpg
the url prove that there is no specific place that the image is uploaded to

vunsin
06-15-2004, 08:49 AM
Okay, cool. Thanks. :) So, how do you keep track of things?

i think that is the negative part

i got this from the FAQ
I uploaded an image, but I forgot the URL. What do I do?

Upload it again. A good way to ensure that you do not forget your image URL is to copy-paste the link that is given to you into a .txt file for safe keeping.

 So what if I delete the file after uploading it. No more?

Anyhow, if we just want to post ugly Jolin's pix this would be really helpful. Thanks again. :D

It sucks...www.photobucket.com has implemented some kind of mechanism where by if you are behind a firewall, the image will not show up at all.

I only noticed it when members have been talking about their sig, and alot of people have been saying they can't see anything, myself included. But when I turn off my firewall, I can see it.

Anyways, I'm just letting ya'll know, and can plan accordingly when you decide where to upload your banners from now on.

I guess it's firewall specific then...since I don't use either of those.

Hey there jayx8318x,

thanks so much. i wouldn;t have disturb u by pm you if i have found this site earlier  . Thanks for pointing it out.

I know that we shouldn't be posting just to say thanks. I also want you to check if my signature fits the rule. I believe that it does... but just to double check to be sure.

Thank you :-)

Your banner is 181x58, total area of 10498. You are far below the limit of 450x150, maximum total area 50000. You have plenty of room to expand

You can learn how to check yourself too, just right-click your picture/banner>properties>dimensions and you can know the size of your banner. :wink2:

^ Photobucket or Imageshack have this direct links for you to put in the image directly to the website. I often do that when i wanted to change my avvie.

After you've uploaded your pictures in either Imageshack or Photobucket, you can see the 'direct link' column, just copy and paste the link to this your avvie page and save.

Hope this helps.

i put the <a href="link"><img src="link of pic"></a>

but it still doesn't work ..

to include link into signature ..

jocsim
08-01-2008, 01:09 PM
^ It's the same. Upload the pictures from pictures uploading website... after that you'll see a column named 'direct link', so just copy the link. And paste the link to the Option 1 in your signature page, and save it too.

mmh... I don't think it's the forum that resizes the picture... maybe you've checked/choose "resize" or some smaller pixels as the actual image on the image hosting site you've uploaded it to? try to check that first and tell me if it worked
