Jay Likes to Play Basketball at Night, Hates to Sleep Alone and Fears Roaches
Jay Chou could not understand why anyone would want to have his old basket ball.
The Taiwanese singer, who is in Singapore to promote his January here and to take part in the TrueHearts charity show, had donated a brand new basketball for the TrueHearts auction.
At a press conference yesterday, he said,"I thought it would be nicer to give a new ball, rather than an old one. But should it make a difference that I used it, maybe I would dribble the ball on stage."
Despite having a sore back from sitting too long on his flight here, Jay couldn't wait to check out our basketball courts.
The singer reportedly has a spinal condition which causes his backbone to become inflammed and painful when the weather changes, or when he sits for long periods of time. Yet he was keen to hunt for courts which are 'open at night'.
"I prefer to play basketball at night, because there are fewer people around." he said.
Jaust a minute... could his desire for a nocturnal basketball session be more of a reluctance to hole himself up in a strange room? After all, his dislike sleeping alone is quite 'legendary'.
Even his good friend, Taiwanese host Luo Zhi Xiang (better known as Piggy) mocked and wrote about it in the book Luo Zhi Xiang Pig Style Society.
Boredom, Not Cowardice?
However, Jay put it down to boredom rather than cowardice.
He said,"It's so boring to sleep alone. Sometimes, I will leave the TV on the entire night, just to have some sort of presence in the room."
Not that he isn't faint-hearted. Besides a fear of rollercoaster rides, Jay also confessed to being spineless when it comes to creepy cockroaches and mice.
When deejay Dennis Chew said that rollercoaster rides here are quite mild, Jay stopped looking at his toes, lifted his head, and 'ahh-ed' in interest. But when told the rides can go up to seven storeys high, he shook his head and exclaimed, "Seven storeys high? No way!"
Probably in a bid to salvage his image, Jay pointed out that he keeps away from rodents because he is being 'kind', "If a mouse is scurrying around, I'll let it go because I don't have the heart to kill it."
"But cockroaches, everyone's afraid of cockroaches!"
