Shang Ban Nu Ren [Starring Xiao Chu, Ken:F4, Jolin:boo!] New Taiwanese Drama

So I finally saw the first episode... and wtf!?

So here's my mini review:

This has to be a Japanese drama. The humor, the plot... the characters personalities... could this drama be called ShoMuni in Japanese? I've never seen the entire Japanese series, just bits and pieces so I'm not sure. But this definately could not have been thought up of in Taiwan! It's just too funny. (er, it would be if it was the originial series). The humor is too Japanese for it to be an original Taiwanese drama. Plus, what a joke. "Original" Taiwanese drama? There hasn't been one since 200 b.c.

The only reason why I rented this drama was because Xiao Chu is in it! And he's probably one of the best actors in there. Jolin can't act, and she's not suited for the part. Her expressions and way of talking is just so "blah" that it really doesn't suit her character. You can tell she was chosen for the part because she's "Jolin" not because she fit the character of the lead.

Also, Xiao Chu is a pretty good actor in it. Of course, he has experience. So, when he's acting with Jolin, he's doing all the acting and she's just reading the script. I love Xiao Chu! go go go! But Jolin is Xiao Chu's LOVE INTEREST!!!!!!!! How Sickening is that!? EEEEEWWW. When they almost kissed I almost puked my guts out. First Jay and now Xiao Chu? Sick Sick Sick! I wish Makiyo was in it!

Next gripe, Jolins song is the theme song, the background music, and basically in the entire 60 minutes the episode! What's up with that!? Doesn't fit. Definately trying to plug her music there. They're also obviously using her to sell the drama, which is using her songs to sell it as well. I actually got all excited when I heard Jay's rap part being played. Go Jay!

The other characters in the drama were chosen appropriately. That one girl is incredibly pretty. (The snobby coworker). Who is she? She is really beautiful imho. I've never seen her before.

Ken from F4 has yet to appear so I wonder what role he'll play? He's not that great of an actor either, but I hope he's improved since Meteor Garden. Anyway, I really want to find out what this series is called in Japanese so I can go rent that as well. As for this one... I'm only watching it because of Xiao Chu.

Okay, this is a horrible drama. I'm on episode 6 and it pretty much sucks. Jolin is a horrible horrible horrible actress. At first I thought I'd cut her some slack but I hate her even more now because she is horrible at acting!!!!

When she's nervous, she throws her hands up. When she's mad, she throws her hands up. When she's scared, she throws her hand up. Come on, woman, there are other ways to express anger than using your hands all the time!!

Plus, they try so hard in the drama to be funny. But they're not doing it right! It's too "over" and completely not natural. They also use the same tactics to try and be funny. The way the camera zooms, the facial expressions... I'm for sure now that this was a Japanese drama first. If not, I'm sure they copied the idea from some other drama in Japan. It's just too similiar to Japanese slapstick humor to be Taiwanese.

ANOTHER thing, what the hell is up with Ken being in only one episode yet having his name and image advertised all over the drama? Whatever. Another way to make money.

Xiao Zhu is actually an okay actor. He's one of the better actors in the entire thing. The snobby girl is an okay actress too. Everyone else sucks ass.
This drama is horrible. I've stuck through 6 episodes just because of Xiao Zhu, but Jolin is too horrible for me to watch any further. If she was a supporting role I'm sure it would have been tolerable, but as she is the main character, I can't sit through 6 more tapes of her horrendous attempts at acting.

He's in love with stupid Jolin, who is named YI LING in the drama, her real name!! So I get so sick of hearing him pine over Yi Ling, Yi Ling. And her acting is so unbearably stupid, I almost want to rent the VCD and upload it so you guys can share in the disgust. All she does is squeeze her face like this (>_<) when something bad happens, and that's like 90% of the entire drama.

Plus, she throws her hands up and grabs her head when shes like "in trouble" in the drama, so she looks like this: Y(>_<)Y all the time!!! GAHHH!!! I can't believe I wasted money on this.

And now, Yi Ling (the character) is in love with Xiao Zhu (they almost kissed - GROSS!!) and this other guy is in love with Yi Ling, and for some reason things they're going to get engaged. Well, Yi Ling, being the submissive idiotic stereotypical damsel in distress with a supposedly "good heart" which is the euphemism for "WEAK LOSER" - can't say that she's NOT in love with him because she doesn't want to hurt him.

About acting and singing:
Jolin said that she has a good experience in 'Working Lady' show. Her interest is more towards singing and performing. But if there is a good script or role, she will still take it up. This also goes with movies but she won't push herself to perform fakely. (Uh.......... didn't Chun Li say her acting is FAKE and sucks? Hmm.)

About the album:
Most people comment that Jolin's songs are for people under 18. Jolin said that her songs are for every one. At least her classmates are also listening to her songs and they are all above 18. (They can listen but they don't enjoy it. I doubt my mom would like to groove to See My 72 Changes.)

Jolin's plan:
Now that Jolin can't do any large promotions overseas, she will relax and take her time to manage her life. (What life?)

About jeans:
Jolin likes to wear jeans. She says that wearing jeans (those with the waist part very short) can show her good waist line. (OMG.) And also nowadays the jeans are very nice and creative.

And honestly, I am looking at it from a neutral point of view - as a paying customer to watch this show! Besides the fact that I think she's an idiot, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt by assessing her acting skills without any bais thoughts. It worked until episode 6 and 12 dollars later. hey i bought the show too. it is spilt into two parts (i think cos for now there are only two parts in the market) i manage to watch it finally and the reason i bought it cos of xiao zhu cos i think he is really good at imitating people esp and also the fact that he is funny. unfortunately, jolin (sorry not a big fan of hers but nothing against her - just that she should stick to singing and trying to be 'cute') so happens to be the lead actress. however, xiao zhu did not manage to shine in this show at all. to be honest, it's an okay show nothing to shout about.

And just like what aina said, what strikes me the most is that they name Xiao Zhu character A LUN, as if Jie LUN. And they name her character Yi Ling, almost like her real name. Gah.... I can't believe what the producer do to polish the rumor even more. And Jolin can't act, it's just too obvious. :oops:

Yi Ling, she actually have this innocent but tough girl character, right. It doesn't suit her well. But the fact that this Yi Ling character is very "hun-hun", it kinda suits her.

I don't think Jolin looks good in this series, she looks better in concerts. Maybe due to her make-up and her hairdo. When she's just a regular office girl, she doesn't look too outstanding.

And Xiao Zhu is drop dead gorgeous. He shouldn't smile a lot, because I'll die when I see those smile. :happy:

You know..the preview song shows Jolin carrying a broom and acting like a maid (Yah, what the hell is with Jolin cleaning the office washrooms and board rooms when she's upset?). And lemme guess...Xiao Zhu is actually a really rich guy - - the disguised son of the boss of that company, RIGHT?! Why else would the boss and his wife try to hook him up with JoliN? And the two snobs at the office are supposed to be Cinderella's (Jolin *cough cough*) evil stepsisters. Oh yah, their boss in their department- - the guy with a toupee-look-alike and moustache - - freaks me out. Cinderella's plot...it's ruined...by this idiotic amateur piece of crap they call a show.
