Hello! :-)

I read a book today called [ A child called"it"] by David Pelzer.

It's about a child who was abused when he was little, in fact the authour is the kid :?

The story is a tru one and very meaningful and talked about how the poor little boy got through all that war, i think i've learned a lot about it.

Here's a little summary about it taken from here (http://www.davepelzer.com/) Click for further info.

A Child Called "It" is the unforgettable story of a child whose courage and unyielding determination enabled him to survive extreme life-threatening odds.

As a child, Dave was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother: a mother who played tortuous games--games that left him Dave nearly dead. With only his willpower to survive, Dave learned how to play his Mother's sinister games in order to survive because she no longer considered Dave a son but a slave, and no longer a boy but an "It."

Although A Child Called "It" contains situations of mistreatment Dave suffered, it is a real life story of the indomitable human spirit. This gripping account is told through the eyes of a child--who will pay any price in order to succeed.

The first part of a trilogy series*, A Child Called "It" is currently translated in nearly forty languages and has been read by millions throughout the world. As stated by Jack Canfield, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Dave is the living example that all of us have the capability to better ourselves no matter what the odds. One's life is forever changed after living through the eyes of A Child Called "It."

I hope if you have the chance to get this book, you read it! Try and look for it in your nearest library :wink2:

I raved about it in the "What are you reading now?" thread before, but I've never picked it up after finishing it. It's something to do with reading about such extreme cruelty to a child that makes me block out the content of entire sections of the book; my sister asked me about the book after reading it and it was as though I've never read about those incidents. Traumatising, it is.

I am really dragging old threads up, sorry if this bothers anyone.

I read this book a while back, and the two books that followed it, The Lost Boy and A Man Called Dave. I keep wondering, what did he do as a child that caused his mom, The Mother, to treat him that way? To physically subject your child to chemical abuse, and neglect. A really sad story.

The mom was an alcoholic so I don't think it was anything he did in particular that triggered her, maybe because he was the younger child or something, but she was probably mentally unstable and the alcohol just made her more psychotic.. It's so sad..

OMG, I loved this story so much!!..It was one of the best books i've read..and also one of the most traumatizing ones too!...I also recommend the sequels to this book and Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane. He's also a really good author. Anyways...back to A child Called "It". This book really hit me really hard and made to look at things in a different persective...it is really a good book.

I thought his mom stabbed him?

Although I might understand that his mom is mentally unstable. But what I don't understand is, why did she pick him and him only? Why only torture the one kid and pamper the rest? But I guess we are trying to use a sane mind to look at an insane action.

For you people who like to read about such pyschology related books, I can also recommend Torey Hayden's series of books, "Somebody else's kids", "Beautiful child"... also about abused children. My female friend had pressed them upon me when they saw I was reading 'A child called "it"'.

Oh...yes, I remember reading this a while back. Like when I was 11 or 12 ish...I was SO SHOCKED!!!!! At first I was like "Wow...this is a weird story." And then I realized it was a TRUE story. O.O!!!!!

It was so utterly complicated and I felt SO BAD...I just kept wondering how and why and all that stuff. It really made me think. It's a sad story...

But Dave Pelzer hasn't "gone astray" and he's actually used his horrifying experiences to help others or help others understand a little bit more.
