That’s it. We Brisbanites are sick of being the poor cousins in the Australian forum so we're forming our own band. Raising the stakes, and proclaiming some land for ourselves... We have lots to be proud of: The Ekka, the Broncos, the great barrier reef, hosting the goodwill games, the big pineapple, and the one and only Steve Erwin of AUSTRALIA ZOO!!
...and, Leise (Stargirl) and I wanted to welcome our newest Brisbane gal on JCN, SHAY!!
WELCOME SHAY!!! :welcome:
So if you're from Queensland, like Brisbane folks (like Leise and myself), being in the state of eternal sunshine with endless servings of Pina Coladas & Bundy Rum, Welcome abroad!!

Can you believe tho...I've lived here for all of uni, and I still have not been to the Ekka. And when I went to Australia Zoo, Steve was in L.A promoting his movie
Wow, we sound like we're totally hyped...we just need OzM8 & Shay in here and that will be ALL of the Queenslanders in here!! NO WAYYYYYY!!

Man my eyesight needs work. I read "....and you know what else will be crazy...me sleeping in a eucalyptus tree again! I swear im going to go nuts and climb the first one i see!"
First thought:
Leise the Koala, Pei the Wombat. *lol*
I feel to truely bond, an unreasonable need to name our fellow aussie's other native local animals...

Lmao yes thats right i sleep in trees... no seriously i have done if before! ok if your a wombat than im a koala! lmao...
so who is going to be the echidna... spiky OUCH!
Hahahaha!! Thanks for the welcome Pei and Leise!!! I feel very loved! LOL! Man, you guys are crazy!!! (in the BEST way of course!! :D)
YAY! Brisbane ROCKS! Where abouts do u guys live? I live in Eight Mile Plains. I'm a pretty recent fan of Jay's....I was never really into taiwan music til i went back last Summer holidays! But i wasn't into Jay til like...I dont even remember when! But his "Yeh Hueh Mei" CD really sucked me!!! Then when my dad went to TW I was like "you have to get me Jay's new CD!!!" I love it! It's great!!!
But anyway, coz I have more Aussie friends I can't exactly talk to them much about my lil obsession hehehehe (though one of my aussie friends thinks he's hot!) and my family's getting pretty sick of it LOL! So I was like (coz my Mandarin kinda sucks) "I wonder if there's a English forum for Jay?" and I stumbled across this!! It's fantastic!!!!! Anyway....this is a really stupid and long story but I felt I had to talk about my Journey to Jay hehe! But I feel like my obsession is so small scaled compared to some of these people!
Thanks for the welcome again guys!
P.S. Do I have to be an echidna? *desperately tries to think of another native animal*

Ha ha ha Pei lives in Goodna!
Im not actually a Brisbanite per se......... you see i live on the sunshine coast (near Noosa) but i figure... HEY close enough right?
I feel your pain Shay... i drive my family batty with my obsession and none of my friends know who jay is *cept for OzM8 because i brainwashed him* anyway im caucasian so im not even sure why I know jay! ha ha ha ha
Your story was good mines boring... heard gui ji at the beijing airport first day in china went hey that songs damm good... never looked back you know! im a new jay fan too dont worry!
AAAAAAAANYWAAAAAy you can be like a kangaroo or a platypus or i dunno bandicoot? dingo???
Damm this song is driving me crazy!
Haha Goodna...sounds familiar but..have no idea where that is!
Oh well, I'll still consider you a brisbanite then! hehehe! As long as you visit occasionally...or just think about visiting...or think about Brisbane LOL!
Wow, that's pretty kewl, you're caucasian but you like Jay? Do u like any other Asian singers?? Haha, you're pretty cool girl stargirl! ;) ...Aw, now i'm just sucking up hey? haha
Hmmm...maybe I can get my Aussie friends into Jay.....highly doubt it though :S
P.S. Who's OzM8? lol. he's a friend of urs?

goodna is a slightly slummy suburb of brisbane... and i was just kidding! :shifty:
Yes i like other artists i listen to japanes korean and chinese music mostly so yeah i have loads of favorites! and im not cool... just ask pei!
Jason is a friend of mine but he is MIA at the moment... meh cant blame him really i think the whole concept of listening to music other than evanescence kind of blew him away ha ha ha!
Yeah i visit Brisbane often!!! but i was born in Townsville GO THE COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i lived in bundaberg *shudder* most of my life till i moved to the coast late 2002! YAY! but i have always been a Queensland girl!
How long have you been in Auz? Im pretty sure i read somewhere that you were born in taiwan right? but you have spent most of your life in auz or is it someone else im thinking of! *no not you pei you NZer!!!! child of the world*
MIA....so dont' know what that means! LOL I'm so uncool. I'm not down with the slangs of kids these days ey? Anyway, I think Evanescence sucks. They think they're so deep and stuff but they just annoy me. Feel free to disagree! Same goes to Linkin Park.. (for some reason Evanescence and Linkin Park remind me of each other..)
Yeh I was born in Taiwan but I moved to Brisbane when I was 1 so i've lived here for like...probably 17, nearly 18 years? But I visit TW occasionally (I would visit more if it were cheaper!!!!!) and I did go back to study in primary school for like....half a year to a year-ish! My mandarin's kinda bad though, I can read it and speak alright though - I guess that's enough!! And I used to be fluent in Taiwanese (Hokkien) but I'm so bad at it now... my mum laughs at me. *wipes a tear*
so how did u get into this website stargirl? did u just google/yahoo it? (that's what i did...) So I hear you're in China at the moment (How's China? I've never been there myself) and you're gonna go see the Jay concert???!! How awesome! you'll have soooo much fun!!! Are u there for holiday or working??
Anyway, I so have to get back to my uni work...I've done nothing this entire semester!!!!!! Btw, do u know what Occupational Therapy (OT) is Leise?? (That's what I'm studying.)

Hey shay sorry its taken me soo long to reply! lmao
MIA means missing in action - well erm im pretty sure thats what it means????
I dont much like Evanescence either but i do catch myself humming some of their tunes every now and than!
i googled jcnet as well but first i got jaystudio but i couldnt stand it!
I will be in china for the next 3 weeks than im heading home..i have been over here for a year and yes i work but its more of a holiday for me! my parents have to work though to support my raging yoghurt addiction :shifty:
Im not going to jays concert im going to the Metersbonwe perfect concert in beijing which is starring Jay but its actually a collection of asian artists... frankly i wish it was just Jay! but oh well! lol
Cool! what do u work as over there?? I'd like to go to China some day but i'd have no idea where to visit and stuff....hmm maybe the olympics? that would be great! hope u enjoy yourself for the last few weeks there Leise!!!! I bet you're missing the beautiful beautiful sunshine state of QLD! first day of spring today!!! but...not...very sunny. *sigh* it rained!
Oh i have to go watch tv now (hehehe) but before i go, i thought i'd wish Pei a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY (in 2 weeks)!!!! I can't do anything fancy coz i'm forum-crazyfont-and-colours-incompetent, but I hope you have a fantastic day (in 2 weeks) Pei and that you enjoy yourself a lot (in 2 weeks)!!!!!!!
note: it's my birthday on the 4th!!! feel free to send me presents :) i like the colour pink and i love clothes! (i would never lie about my birthday)

ahaha...Shay dude, thanks for the birthday note. I feel like a total ass when I signed on tonight...it's not my bday for another 2 weeks, but being the noob that I am (noob especially on jc.net is not cool. you'll learn...) I wasn't watching when I clicked in my birthday stats, so I've edited it now. Can't wait for ppls reaction when it comes around again, they'll be like, "dude, what are you doing?~!?~" But cool...your birthday in 3 days! What are your plans? Going out to the pubs and celebrating with the girls and/or bf? We're talking Regatta, R.E, Valley, City? (I love talking about local places that locals know! Yay us!)
Sorry for being MIA on you guys, especially after that crazy enthusiastic welcome...I used up my free UQ net account on JCN and other non-study related sites (tee hee). yes, leise jokes....I'm not in Goodna, I am very much in Brisbane. I can't wait to get a job and pour myself into it...you can only bum about so long before you bore of it and relish the new challenges.
Shay, I get what you say about jay's music and a lot of what you say is spookily familiar. I'm a kiwi at heart, was born in Taiwan but moved to New Zealand when I was six (and no, I didn't say it with an accent). A lot of what you say rings true...but I guess it gets like that when you grow up overseas at a really young age. Almost all my friends are western, but I hit this phase about six months ago where I wouldn't listen to anything but Cpop (chinese pop)...and since JCN it's developed onto Jpop & Kpop too. I need to work on my mandarin too, but with music you love, artists you admire, and people you can relate to...everything becomes easier.
haha well...then....i take my birthday wishes back!! my plans for saturday night - dinner with my old school friends at my place and then going to the valley probably!!! like birdie num num, the GPO? not so much a city gurl anymore....(since city rowers closed *wipes a tear* tho...not sure why i liked it?) where do u usually go when u go clubbing? or where do u usally just hang out? in my free time i probably just go to the southbank cinemas (cheap!!), the city or garden city to shop, for restaurants and stuff, sunnybank plaza and market square are pretty good (and pretty asian) places for my family to dine out... very southern places in brisbane! hehe i love naming local places too!
good luck with getting a job pei. it's a bit tough out there huh? yeh, imagine all the energy u'll put into ur next job though! hehe
so u used to live in new zealand? how awesome! it's ok, i wont make any nz accent or sheep jokes.... :p so do u live here with ur family now? how do u like it compared to new zealand??
it's good u relate to my experiences re: asian music. what other asian singers do u like?? i like jasmine/fish leong, jolin (i know...but my mum got me one of her cd's ages ago and she helped me get into asian music), mayday and machi are pretty cool, eason chen......and i go thru other phases...i try to keep up with music with the kiss radio website and downloading and stuff and i wait for relies to go to taiwan to get me cd's! oh yeh, i like jay too OF COURSE! though i still listen to western (as in..english, not cowboy)music, i love it that i also have this other side of music to explore! sometimes i wish i could share jay and stuff with my closest friends though (who r aussie), play it at parties and dance...hehe. well, i say that if i ever get a car, i'll play jay in my car and they'll have to listen to it and then they'll fall in love with it! and before u know it, they'll be surfing jcnet! hehe!

Well then, I put my birthday wishes forward for you!! Happy birthday girl! Sounds like you have your birthday sorted!! lol..I know why we have a soft spot for rowers...the venue itself is pretty decent, great views..and for some reason..the music they play is always so right. I didn't even know they had closed down...how long ago was this? & Sthbank cinemas..how cheap are we talking?
As for going out...I don't have regular places I go to I don't think..oh wait..apart from Indooroopilly shopping centre...the cinema there ($6.50 for UQ students, last I checked), the cafes in milton, and I'm getting back into latin dance which is good...I tend to club hop so it changes frequently (regetta atm). I go out less, but do more unusual things...the night before we went to a drive-in cinema in yatala...I had no idea brisbane had one. Great fun! Smilar exp to 'sunset cinema' at the botanic gardens, which should be coming soon...last year they had Bic Runga (a kiwi singer/songwriter) preform to start off the season...good memories.
*yawn* it's early morning after a fun night out., but wanted to surf abit to wear myself out and noticed your bday being today so had to reply. I will reply to the rest later today...Have a good sleep-in and enjoy your day!
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes!! It's very sweet of you Pei! I had a really good day!!! (apart from a bit of studying) ...I tell ya though, could not study the next day...for certain reasons.....hehe (ok, i felt too sick) *quick change of subject* Yay! I'm finally back at jc.net.... I've been so hard at study etc...it's been terrible. But i'm back!!! Mid-Semester break soon. Only one week, but one week is good enough for me! Ill try to up my posts and when i can (be bothered), i should apply for regular just so i can get that cool little comment under my name hehe.
Aw, speaking fo music, I went to see Muse a couple of weeks back - they were absolutely awesome!!!! Have u guys ever heard of them? anyway, it was at the riverstage so it was pretty big and stuff..
Southbank cinemas is $5 for students or $5.20 on weekend kinda thing. Not sure about adult. Btw, is the regatta good? i've never actually been there....i've been to the R.E. though.
P.S. i dont drink beer. lol

I love muse shay! my brother and i were spitting chips that we missed the show!
aww thanks for the thread title pei! im home yes... im not sure how i feel about it but it was soo awesome meeting you! hey one day we should all three meet up in brisbane. I always go to indooroopilly when im in bris pei! lmao
Welcome back to the sunny state of Queensland Leise!!!! I hope you had a heap of fun in China!!!! It's cool u guys went and met up with each other and got along! hehe. Any goss? (any one of u a bitch? hehe)
Man, it's getting so hot... i'm starting to remember what summer is like now.... fingers crossed i'm gonna be sweatin off the weight i put on in winter. hehe. Oh i so have to go to the beach this weekend! Yay!!
Leise, Muse were EXCELLENT!!! It's so sad u missed them, but def so see them next time they come. They were like the best show i'd seen though they weren't very interactive with the audience. Matt Bellamy was so hot with the guitar... and on the piano...
P.S. Pei, this is so incredibly belated (whereas my other one was just incredibly early), but i hope you had an EXCELLENT birthday! :)

No i dont but i want to now!!!!!! I think they're opening up a school here in brisbane so if u're interested, come learn when it's open and stuff (dont..really know when tho)! It was awwweeesomee, I had such a great time! I think i just really like the drums. So cool...but i'd love to be able to play the xylophone like they did...it just sounded sooo nice.
Alicia Keys..that would be wonderful!!! U gotta tell me about that!
The 'purcussivism' group is opening a school in Brisbane?!?!? For real?! Or did I misunderstand that? If and when that happens, let me know the details...I'm sure the classes will be fun. I'd love to learn those huge chinese/japanese drums that they stick on either side of you and just belt out rhythm and let loose.
And Alicia Keys...BRING IT ON! Lemme grab details...
The Frontier Touring Company are thrilled to announce that come October this year, America's new darling of soul will be gracing stages across Australia and New Zealand for the first time ever. Widely tipped as the princess in waiting for the soul diva crown, Alicia Keys is talent, looks and personality melded into one glorious package.
At just 23 years of age, the classically trained pianist and singer has already made her mark on the international music scene. Her fusion of old school soul, influenced by the likes of Roberta Flack, Oscar Peterson, Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder, and contemporary R&B has endeared her to both critics and fans alike.Flack herself describes Keys as "the quintessential example right now of what someone with real, deep-rooted talent can do."
In 2001, springing from relative obscurity, Keys released her first album Songs in A Minor, from which the chart-topping single Fallin' was spawned. The album won critical acclaim worldwide, and earned Keys a swag of music awards, including five Grammys. NME proclaimed Songs in A Minor an "almost flawless" offering, touting it as "a record of glorious parts", whilst Pop Matters described it as "a distinct and oft -times brilliant debut."
Keys' current release The Diary of Alicia Keys, featuring the highly popular singles Diary, If I Ain't Got You and You Don't Know My Name, received similar praise. Dot Music labelled it a "masterpiece", Rolling Stone "an assured, adult statement". Demonstrative of the musical mastery she has been honing since the age of five, The Diary of Alicia Keys was written almost entirely by Keys herself and was based on her own life experiences. "I don't put myself in any kind of box; I speak freely with my music," Keys says. Since its release in 2003, the album has gone multi-platinum, selling over 5 million copies worldwide, and resulting in Keys' nomination for three 2004 MTV Awards. Alicia Keys is a talent in her own right, a modern day diva not afraid to reveal her true self to her fans.
Secure tickets to see Alicia Keys perform in Australia and New Zealand for the very first time. It is sure to be a performance you won't forget.

So what do you think...I love her voice and I think it should be really good..but right now...the seating I can see thats left is pretty average. lol, which was why I mentioned winning them off some corny radio competition would be perfect right about now...
Yeh they're opening a school here! they signed the contract or whatever last week!! my sources are my mum and her friends, so that'll be awesome if it opens...soon! im thinking it might take a while to open though.... I totally know what you mean about the drums, it'd just be so awesome!
I think alicia keys has such a beautiful voice but i dont think i'd pay that much to see her...and plus the crap seats hehe. Yeh, i'm sure b105, 97.3 and/or nova (maybe) will have competitions, one of them will!! Haha you'll have to put the number on speed dial and try hard not to go crazy listening to some of that bad music they play....!! Not a big fan of the radio really. My friends listen to JJJ and it's cool and all...but it's hard and takes time to get into most of that music...what radio station do u listen to?? What kinda english music do u generally listen to?
(I hope you're well Leise! :D)

When do your exams finish Shay? How did they go? Let's go to the valley and just go crazy from club to club when you're done to celebrate! I have been away for so long and you're the one with exams going on...sorry guys. Busy with job hunt & having fun...and getting extremerly poor along the way. Oh well, such is life. And if not to celebrate, then when Leise is next in Brissie we should go for coffee and meet up? You'll always find me if you pop by Indro often enough :-P
Edit: Just been reading you getting up to no good with the LQP's (naturally). Maybe we should meet at the airport after all..have them scan you for any metal devices (Digital cameras, cam recorders).
Pei? u're actually alive??
How the job hunting going?? Yeh, i seem to be going on jcnet a lot (and reply quite quickly!) considering i have exams this week.....i have one tomoro too :glug: hehehe. went to uni to study but saw the man of my dreams...*sigh* and chatted to him a while. lol....just when u think there are no distractions at uni... So uve been having fun ey?? what do u get up to? partying? hehe yeh, it appears u do live at indro.........shopping centre.

yes, I'm about now...still lurking but getting back into things slowly. Congrats on being done with your exams!! I am still checking with my job situation, but once I know, I'll set a date so we can catch up. And if Leise is up in Brissie too, even better :D
So how are the holidays treating you? And you know our big theme day is tomorrow huh? Made ur's yet? lol, I haven't still but I have an idea of what I want. It will be sexy, smouldering, and have everyone drooling. Naturally.
