hey everyone.. imagine this.. you have a good friend who hasn't heard any of jay's songs before.. and he/she asks you to give him 1 song to listen to.. which one would you pick to let him listen?
my friend was kinda stuck in this situation once.. in the end he gave him ke ai nu ren.. and he was *whew* impressed with it.. subsequently another friend burned a cd of jay songs for him and he was so impressed he even wanted to buy his cd.. :D

haha just recommended songs a little while ago. it's really hard for me because i'll recommend *all* of them. but usually i say: love in b.c, adorable girl, starry mood, black humour, and tornado.

my first thought was....it kinda depends on who it is...if the person likes fast songs/rap, i would let them listen to sorry or ban shou ren, but if the person likes slow and pretty songs, then i'd recommend silence & split....i think jay songs have really good variety (unlike some other singers who only sing one type of music)...i donno, i can't really imagine someone not liking ANY of jay's songs no matter what type of music they like...lol...there must be a jay song for everyone :D

I actually let my friend (a guy) heard BAN SHOU REN as a fresh start and even though he didn't understand Chinese (He's native Indonesian), he was impressed by the music. He said, "I don't understand a bit what he said, but the music is really nice to hear!" :)
And I let my friend (a girl) hear KE AI NU REN as starter, and she liked the song in an instant. "Nice song, I like it!" she said. And later on, I let her hear LONG JUAN FENG, and she said the song was nice too. (she doesn't understand Chinese either)
haha, i totally was in this situation. My first priority was to find a song that was pure RnB, cuz i love his ballads. For that, i played Black Humour and had to play Cannot Speak too. but then, my second priority was to show that he could rap and that his music has an asian influence, totally DIAO, so I played nun-chucks and ban shou ren. Even still, i felt like i didn't do him justice!!!
but IF i had to play JUST ONE SONG, i'd play Black Humour.... wait, Ban Shou Ren... but i can' t leave An Hao out! aahhhh....
This is a good question actually, I'm sure Jay asks himself this too, especially when he had to select a song for his MTV Asia Awards performance. Didn't he say he chose Long Quan because it would shock the Europeans/North Americans with the Asian kung fu? I totally thought he made all Asians proud, but i also thought: "oooh, i wish he could have fitted in a ballad on his piano! well, i hope all the western viewers and attendees (artists) will listen to his album and hear his soulful Richard Marx-like voice and compositions!!!" but Jay's a smart dude, silly me, i would have tried to prove that I (Jay) could sing RnB/ballads just as well as Brian McKnight, Richard Marx, but Jay decided to show what HE CAN do and others CAN'T.

oh, i've been in a situation like that before, but i would choose the song that i think the person will like best, depending on what kind of songs they like, fast, slow, e.t.c.. But, since all of Jay's songs are so great, i'm sure they would like all of them, i'd probably just give them the whole cd to listen to.

i made my friend a korean cd, but i snuck some jay in there. i put one song from each album that kinda showed his range. so from the "jay album" i put "tornado" to show his skill in ballads, then for "fantasy" "simple love" to show he could sing pop too. then from the "8D" album i put "half human monster" to show his hip hop skills. jay's a very versatile artist so it's easy to find a song that fits most people's taste.

I recommend songs based on who asks for recommendations. Usually, I find myself gushing about Silence, Simple Love, Dad I've Come Home, and Secret Code. I think one of the best songs to recommend is Dad, I've Come Home because of it's unique lyrics and the overall dark quality of it. My mom and I have a blast yelling "Ni zhou kai!" when the odd man screaming part comes up.
If it were up to me, I'd just burn a CD with what I think the person would like. That's what my friend did for me... All his songs are of very good quality, so I'm sure no matter what, people will like his music.

Ah! Sorry! I'm not positive myself, but it means something like "(You) Go away!" or "Leave" or "Let go". Something like that. >.<;; I'm not extremely fluent in Mandarin either, so I could be completely off. It just sounds funny.

its so hard to choose cuz ur scared your going to give your friend the 'wrong impression'. i'd probably make them a mix cd: cute girl, black humour, nunchuks, (dad i'm back?), silence, cannot speak, ban shou ren, final battle, dragon fist, an hao and return to the past
okay: like linny said, its kinda of like: go away, but more towards- back off or get out of my sight

i can't choose just one song!
but if i had to...i'd choose... an hao! the first song that got me hooked!

I would have to play them two songs cos jay's music is kinda 'varied' in style.
For the classis ballad, i would probably play 'cannot speak' / 'silence' / 'tornado' - cos they really are the most touching songs i have ever heard and they're also my fave!
As for up-tempo songs - then uhh...probably 'sorry' / 'bullfight' (the live version though cos that remix is just brilliant!!!)

DEFINITELY an jing. i'd recommend xing qing, ke ai nu ren, and jian dan ai 2nd.. then all the rap songs last.
i gave my friends an hao, ai zai qi yuan qian and ban dao tie he.
but if it's only just one song, it'll definitely be an hao!

oh, this depends on the person and taste. i always thought a guy would love Jay's fast number/rap, but it turns out that one guy like Milan's ironsmith - not for Jay voice but for the guitar.
if your friend could spare some time, i would suggest playing "Fantasy" album. there's enuf varieties there to fit any taste .
the one
04-21-2003, 04:41 PM
if it's a girl, then "ke ai nu ren" and "jian dan ai", but if it's a guy, then either "ninja", "nunchuks", or "lung quan"..

i think black humour or an jing would be it.... i personally like jay's slow songs better than his fast ones (maybe i did not learn to appreciate them yet) but yeah black humour and an jing are sooooo..... emotional, and just shows him drowning in agony....
my fave songs ever!
these two songs show jay's emotional style in his music

Ke Ai Nu Ren for sure!!! that's how i got hooked on Jay! and also Shuang Jie Kun, that's totally Jay! during the recent web chat, one fan asked him which song can represent him and Jay said that it would have to be Shuang Jie Kun :)
hmm...maybe i should get some of my caucasian friends to listen to either one of those songs and see what they think...

I'll choose Black Humour, The Last Battle, Niang Zi, Kai bu laio kou and Ban Sou Ren.
Walaueh, all his songs are so damn good
i think xing qing and long juan feng.. and maybe pa, wo hui lei le... and shuang jie kun... coz these few songs are kind of very jay's style.. i got a friend who never hear jay's song before, then i introduced xing qing to her and she love that song a lot... now always sing that song when we go to ktv...and she also bought jay's fantasy album...

Hmmm my friend let me listen to Ai zai xi yuan qian last year and I was totally hooked on Jay and that marked the starting point of my Jay obsession. So for me, the ultimate Jay song would be that one, Love before AD. But I found that almost everyone I persuaded to listen to Jay always ended up absolutely in love with An jing. Then again, each person has his/her own favourite songs. My cousin who is a girl, was smitten by Ba wo hui lai le and my other cousin who is a guy was smitten by Xing qing earlier but now is totally crazy for Ban shou ren and Long Quan. Another friend got hooked on Ye ye pao de cha. The best part is, though, most of the people I introduced Jay to, ended up liking almost all his songs. Hey, the guy is talented, all the songs are good. So need we say more? :p
slowslowturtle
04-23-2003, 04:32 AM
hmm.. if i have to give a song.. i will give ba wo hui lai le...
cos it is a v special song..
but if have to choose the defining jay song.. then have to choose ke ai nu ren.. cos he sang this song to forget who already and that person.. after hearing this song.. asked him to cut an album
so i think this is his most signifincant song

see i always think that guys are more into the rap so i would recommend Dad, I'm Back and Nunchuks but then I found out that this guy was more into the slow songs so i can never tell. i always end up recommending the wrong songs

hmmm, i can't really choose one song either... it does depend on the person... if that person's into fast songs, i'll recommend "ban shou ren" and "dragon fist"... if that person's into slow songs, i'll recommend simple love (the song that got me hooked), secret signal, tornado, cannot speak, etc.
i've played some slow songs to one of my friends who is Polish and she loved his songs... she said he has a nice voice and the music is excellent... she does have good taste in music! :D :D
also, i had a party at school a couple days ago and i've played two songs "ban shou ren" and "iron box of the island" and they liked those two songs... i didn't plan to play his cd cause most of them are hispanic and i wasn't sure if they will want to listen to a foreign language (they were playing too much salsa to begin with  )... that music was annoying me, so i suggested that i play something different... most of them liked his style too... thank goodness!

I know i have already posted here, but i just remembered something..i think that i would choose Ba wo hui lai, it was my very first song of Jay, and i really liked it. It's got a smooth melody and it isn't too romantic as to some of the others that some people might not like too much, and i would probably choose Love in B.C because it's also a neutral song, but the rhythm is really catchy and nice..

04-24-2003, 08:22 AM
Like most of you guys, it really depends on the person tt ur recommending to. but i would definately chose 2 songs of different styles...hmm probably love in b.c cuz it's a real soft ballad and...dragon fist cuz it's a great fast song.
actually, i'd probably just lend the person my video of J's 'the one' concert, then not only can they listen to the songs but also see J in action. that'll convince them! :)

an jing hands down..but if they could not relate maybe an hao or kai bu liao kou..but only if

For me, it depends on who I'm tryingto make Jay impress. If it was a girlfriend, I'd play her Simple Love or one of the other 'cute' love songs like 'Clear Stars'.
If it was someone younger than me, then 'Dad, I've come back' or 'Wife' will be cool enough to make them pay attention.
If it was someone who loves a good ballad, I'd surely play Black Humor and Can't Speak.

i would recomend ban shou ren, long juan feng,
an hao, dui bu qi, so the person could see that his type of songs varie
kahel
10-12-2003, 01:31 PM
it depends on the person's taste. when i recommend them to my rocker friends, i usually let them listen to guitar driven songs such as *ren zhe, *nuo fu etc. then to friends who love ballads...*an jing and *hei se you mo.. to those who are open for anything...usually i give them one of each, rap + ballad + r n b songs such as *long juan feng (i find that almost everyone appreciates this song) *dui bu qi etc.

I would always recommend YEye Pao De Cha...always succeed.
Miss_gun
10-12-2003, 05:45 PM
Hmm....KE Ai Nu Ren!! I love that song!!!And Black humour..
for those ppl who likes raps..I think Nunchucks!!
just like kahel said...it depends on ppl's taste.
I think I will still see the situation first..
*meow
10-13-2003, 11:47 AM
if i had to choose.. i think it'd be long juan feng, jian dan ai, kai bu liao kou, ni ting de dao... shuang jie gun! and.. long quan also. i think it suits his style... so people will see that jay is not only good at rapping... his ballads are also good!

i'd say ban dao tie he cuz it shows that jay can rap and sing. and it sounds good together

I would recommend Black Humour, Jian Dan ai and An Hao
These songs are soothing and I immediately love them when I first heard these songs...

Yi Fu Zhi Ming......it will blow anybody away, like it did to me..or perhaps..Pa, wo Hui Lai Le or Tornado...or...Ye Ye Pao De Cha...hhmm..every jay song is good ! :D :D
lattae
10-13-2003, 05:37 PM
I'll go for Jian Dan Ai... cos it's the very song that made me fall in love with Jay...
but if that person is more into upbeat music, I think ye ye pao de cha and yi fu zhi ming is pretty good...
Jay's pretty easy to like.. at least in my opinion... I've influenced quite a few of my friends into Jay already

I think i will recommand xing qing , jian dan ai or qing tian to those wan who like relaxing songs.
then, shuang jie gun, shuang dao ,long quan to those like powerful rap songs.
an jing ,hei she you mo or kai bu liao kou to those who like sentimental songs ...

the jay song i would recommend for a friend who has never heard of jay b4 would b 'ai zai qi yuan qian'. it's a gr8 combination of rapping (sort of ) and love song. it's one of my top jay songs...ever! my first song of jays' was 'zui hou de zhan yi' and i thought tha rocked, but i would still recommend 'love in bc'.
sakikora
04-11-2004, 03:23 PM
well...i would make my friend sit down...and play through all of jay's songs....i'll give him/her the ultimate experince of jay's music....by then she/he would probably be as in love with jay as i would...
Dong Feng Puo
04-12-2004, 04:41 AM
hmm... the FIRST song I would have to recommend would be Black Humor, just 'cause that's the song that made people notice Jay's musical/lyrical/vocal talents. After that, I would recommend very different songs to show Jay's versatility. I would probably recommend the following:
Adorable Woman/Simple Love/Return to the Past for the sweet/happy love songs
Tornado/Can't Say It/Secret Signal/Sunny Day for the poignant love songs
In the Name of the Father/Final Battle/Ninja/East Wind Breaks for the "themed" songs
Terraced Field/Coward for the socially conscious songs
Yea... I couldn't narrow down the list much so I just divided it up xP

An ineresting topic...heez..
I think the first thing i will do is to show all Jay cds to him/her...and i will tell him/her the best songs that are from the albums...but if i have to play one song for her, it will be Qing Tian..
jbert99
04-12-2004, 06:59 AM
i think definitely that tornado, simple love, rooftop and then an jing to cap it off.
i would recommend silence, or love in bc both very touchin song, jay is a all rounder, he sings anything u want him 2 sing, ^_^ 1 n only jay n 4ever he'll be

04-15-2004, 02:34 PM
me...if i were to giv ma friends sum Jay songs to listen to...they would be an jing, qing xing (is dat right?), ni ting de dao, dong feng po, and ti tian oh! and ba wo hui la le (is that right again?) man these are my all time faves!! they are soooo good
oh...and to prove my loyalty to Jay, my friends burnt me YHM but later i bouhgt the actual thing, so i wasnt depirving Jay of what he deserves...

i just recommended to my best friend to listen 'qing tian' and she loved it!

This is a tough questiong. :? But I guess it depends on what type of music my friend likes. For my friends who are into rock/rap, I'll choose shuang dao. I've made my friend listen to the Ye Hui Mei CD and she loved Shuang Dao as much as Nuo Fu. For my friends who are into more "peaceful" songs, I would choose Hui dao guo qu. When my friend first introduced my to Jay songs, she made me watch the hui dao guo qu MV and that made me notice Jay.

04-16-2004, 06:20 AM
Hahaha, Jay has so many style of songs it's hard to actually find a 'defining' one. If it was a slow song I would pick Jian Dan Ai or Dong Feng Po. For fast songs I would pick Long Quan and Ren Zhe.
Squall
04-16-2004, 06:53 AM
the most defining jay song should be kai bu liao kou because this is the song which make me notice about jay.
and alot of people like this song too
mangmomiu
04-16-2004, 09:11 PM
In my opinion, the most defining Jay song is Tornado. That was the hit song that made him 'hot' and famous - I don't think there's any music lover out there who hasn't heard or knows of that song.
