Jay @ the MTV concert, 8/14/04

Just got back from the MTV concert! It was REALLy good simply because I got to see so many singers in one place. Here's my Jay report:

I was backstage (with a backstage work pass), outside of the office building where the performers stayed but behind the stage. My friend and I were waiting by the door, where the performers came through before they went on stage. And there he was. JAY!!!! He was wearing an unbuttoned black baseball jersey with white trim, a plain white undershirt and baggy jeans. So right when he passed me, I yelled out "Jie Lun!" and he looked RIGHT at my camera! We weren't allowed to ask for autographs (although I still snuck a few at the end), but still--WeeeeehoO.

Jay performed "QLX" and "Excuse" after Landy the booty popper and Nan Quan Mama. When Nan Quan Mama came on, they asked the audience, "Do you guys want to eat Jay's chicken butt? Yea? Okay. We'll talk about it after you guys listen to us sing first." (I thought that was really cute. :bleh:) Then half way through the song, Jay came on! (Sorry I don't know what song it was). The crowd went wild for him. When they were all singing the chorus together, Jay's voice definitely stuck out. He totally ignored the doc's orders and just belted it out man! Jay sings SO well live!

After he finished singing with Nan Quan Mama, this is what he said. "Sorry but I'm gonna be the substitute host today 'cause I haven't talked in awhile. Who were those dads and brothers just now? I have a new album, do you guys know what it's called?" The audience: "QLX!" "And did you guys buy it?" The audience: "Yes!" "And do you all know how to sing the songs?" The audience all replied "yes!" but one guy decided to jokingly reply "no!" "Ah, really, you don't know how to sing it? Do you know how to sing it?" The audience unanimously answered "yes!" this time. "So since you all know how to sing the songs, I'll sing this 'QLX'." During "QLX," he said, "Sorry I'm sick today, but I"ll still sing live, alright?" After "QLX," he said, "This is a song I'm singing in public for the first time. The lyrics... I've memorized them pretty well. :bleh: [Oh how cute is our lyrics-forgetting king!] It has some pretty high notes, so if I go flat, please forgive me! [And he takes a small bow to the audience! :excited:] Well then I'll do my best to sing this 'Excuse.' Thank you." Since every act only sang 1-3 songs, Jay left after "Excuse."

When he got off of the stage and started walking back into the office building, I did a VERY shameless but awesome thing. I asked my friend to record him walking from the stage toward us, getting my face in the camera so that at some point I would be in the same frame with Jay! And tada! It worked! I looked really dumb and expressionless, but Jay looked hot, as usual. Weehoo!

After Jay went back into the building, he went to the "performers' resting area" and chatted with some people there. From what I could see (I had to keep my distance), he seemed to be talking to some members of Machi. Then he took the elevator to the second floor after that. I don't know if he left right away, because the MTV website said 10 lucky people who buy certain Panasonic phones will have a chance to bring a friend and meet Jay backstage! AHHHH those lucky people. I wish I had connections to Jay man. Oh well, good enough. I'm gonna go watch the concert on MTV now. :wave:

I didn't even go looking for him--I was simply at the right place at the right time. :bleh: My digicam is being stubborn still, but I'll upload my one and only up close and personal Jay pic once I teach that digicam a good lesson. anyway...thanx alot for this...at least it let us know what happened there and how jay performed....i guess its really hot that day...maybe you can try to scan in the pictures you took?i guess everyone in j-c.net will thank you for a lifetime for that...and i hope to see him too....

Ah yes ... I caught that concert. He looked soooooooooo charming in that simple outfit. I just love it when he dresses simply with not much accessories this time round except that ring.

And the unshaven look. Hheheheh. Oooh, DFP, you must share with us the video clip where you took in the same frame as him.

Coz' it's gonna be really funny, I bet. By the way, despite his voice, I think he really did a great job with [借口]。

I saw the performance on TV too!! Jay looked really good!! :love: I agree, the simple outfit was nice. Did you notice how the crowd lid up when Jay appeared on stage?? :excited: They just cheered even louder when he appeared. I was also very pleasantly surprised while I was watching on TV. I bet if I was there I'd be screaming my head off.

I love it that Jay sang live even though he was sick!! He hit the notes perfectly IMO. :thumbsup:

I've just watched the part where Jay was singing. Did any of you notice that Jay made a little error when he was singing "jie kou"? At the first ref. it should be qing bu yao ba fen shou dang zuo ni de qing qiu, but he sang wo zhi dao ni de tong shi wo gei de cheng nuo.
I was just so surprise, he must be a little nervous, singing a song with his own music and lyric. I like this song.

hi thanx so much for telling us ur brief encounter with jay, OH MY GOSH, u r so lucky to hav seen him, 'applaud for u'......well, the way u describe jay's espression when u called out his name and he looked over at ur camera was so nice, and his dressing sounds great too....havent really seen him in base ball jersey in white trim, unbuttoned??on my, if i m u ,i probsbly faint alredy, hahaha......

oh well, jay is jus so ever adorable, so so cute though with his new superstar status now, he is still such a cute naive guy, n i m so touched when he said,'i m sick today, but i'll still sing live' .....its not good jay,but he did is for the fans, everyone is gona be so dissapointed if he really 'dont' sing....coz its like, i really think lots of ppl are there bcoz of him. oh i just cant wait to watch the clip, but i m at uni now, cant DL. sigh....need to get home as soon n try to DL, theres so many nice n interesting clips in JCN i hav a tough time making choices, and really thank everyone who uploads the clips.....thanx.and also those who shares the experiences of seeing jay in person.

Wow I wish I had a backstage pass. I was gonna get tickets by buying an X70, but it turns out my mom's friend's husband got us three free tickets. They were the ones that would have qualified for the Jay meet/greet backstage, except I didn't have time to go online and punch in the numbers. :cry: (I didn't get my hands on the tickets until the day of the concert, and I spent all morning at Jay's autograph session.)

When Nan Quan Mama was performing, I was hoping Jay might come out, but I thought that he was still at the autograph session since there had still been so many fans there when I left at 6. So I was really surprised when Jay came out. Hehe, everyone went wild and rushed forward (it's amazing how much closer everyone can push when a popular singer gets on the stage). I got glimpses of Jay by standing on my tiptoes, but mostly I had to look at the screens to see his face. My brother helped me take some pictures and short video clips, but they didn't come out that well.

Then I watched Jay on TV again when I got home.. ahh I need to download it!

lol, i would've even jumped ON him if i could... but if i tried to get anywhere near him the security guards would've kicked me out. they were really really strict that day. they were already nice enough to let us take pix when mtv strictly prohibited any picture taking... so i didn't wanna abuse my privileges. :oops:

I just rewatched that part and found out that Jay made up 2 new phrase when he was singing. After singing the error phrase "ni shuo gei guo wo zong rong" he continue with "wo zhi dao dou shi wo cuo, qing zai gei wo, yi ge li you na wo zou dao gen yuan" :wacko: :crazy:
And when the camera shows the audience I saw a couple of them just standing stunning with their mouth open :oops:
Well I think you can see who's there to see Jay and who's not coz those that where there to see Jay already knows his lyric and discover the blooper while those who didnt know continue to wave to the music :D

I went too but I couldn't hear him as well because of all the screaming :x There was this one girl behind me that screamed " HAO SUAI" into her cell phone like sixty gazillion times. It was awesome though xDDD

Awesome!! Another JCN member who is so lucky to meet Jay!! But you are one goodie Jay fan, admiring Jay quietly and calmly!! Yap, the crowd went crazy when Jay came out and sang with NQMM. ALl the fans screaming and yelling!! What a sight!! But I always admire the fans' stamina, imagine all the squeezing, screaming and standing in the crowd for so many hoiurs and yet they were still so energetic!! :excited: Hope that you can share your awesone clip and pictures with us soon!! :happy:

Actually i've realise abt the part when Jay sang jie kou too... before he started to sing he was sayin tat this song he is quite familiarise with the lyrics n had memorise it...but it turn out not to be the case... sang the wrong sentence... n his performance on tat day was really affected badly cos of his voice n oso the sound system... he was signallin to the crew abt the sound system... haha...
