i don't know if this question has been asked before. i tried to go through as many posts as possible and i didn't see it anywhere. does jay sign his name in chinese or english? i saw his siggy on a pepsi picture thing and i can kinda tell that there's a zhou, but the rest is so scribbly that it actually looks like there's a "y" in there at the end. so yeah.. does he sign in english or something?

I will post this for other people to take a good look at, so they could make a better judgement.

From my very limited knowledge of Chinese character,... I could only see that he writes it in English, as he start the signature with a J and end it with a Y. Hmm... makes me wonder, where do you see the 周 (zhou) ? Coz I've looked at this piece of signature for many many times and couldn't find that character. :?

Autographs are always hard to decipher. No one can tell how my signature says my name at all. I've seen Jay's autograph a billion times, and I always see the same things: the J, the y, and the Chinese "Jie." I think the last chunk of the signature is somehow "Lun." =)

same here, dong feng puo. i had no doubts about it until this question came along. i think that is what jay is signing. the JAY is quite obvious, and the scribbly words on top look like jie lun-with the lun in old chinese characters.

really? i don't see the JAY. am i blind??? ok maybe i'm making this up in my head but i thought the thing that looks like a "v" on the very left was a very scribbly box in "zhou" and the thingy next to it that kind crosses on itself is the stuff inside the box in zhou. hmmm on 2nd thought, i think that might actually be the "jie" arghh. so enigmatic

ok, just confirming what yiwenwong posted, jay's autograph is basically Jay plus 杰倫 (Jie Lun) on top. he usually signs starting with the "J", going from left to right and then up. then he finishes the "Jay" with the "a" and "y". after that, he signs the "Jie" and "Lun". hope that's clear.

J A Y plus jie lun???
:hmm: i can see the 'jie' but i can't see the 'lun' ...
'lun' character is pretty difficult to write, it has so many lines.
But i understand that Chinese people has their own ways to make a character easier to write.

Thanks wackycashew for the answer, now i know...
i thought it's only some curly lines...

actually, the "lun" may be hard to identify because jay actually doesn't write the full character. =D

ok, i just had some fun with this. :bleh: this should be clear now.

yeah, Lisa, that is one heck of a guide! :) you can now work in a bank and analyse forged checques or be a handwriting expert at the FBI.

when Jay makes the Jie Lun characters, it's hard to decipher...i guess when you are a native chinese speaker then you write, it adapts to your mannerisms too (i'm thinking that this relates to jay's knack for mumbling :bleh: )

:excited: Lisa, nice tutorial here.. wanna know what Jay will do if he see this haha may be change his autugraph.

ermm.. and that Jie Lun on Jay, I also can't figure out, I think it's somehow of heart shaped at the tail of his autograph

lisa, that was a good tutorial! I was wondering what is Jay scribbling as well.
After looking at the tutorial, I was thinking about the 倫 part. He did do a swirl-thing at the end of the word. Could he be signing 'Lun' instead of 倫? :? The big 'L', then the two 'un'.

Coz I saw the same thing with the signature I've found. (placed it on my previous banner.)

Geez, we are really keen in forging his signature. :D

I saw the autograph on the first page of this thread, in fact, i've seen it a lot of times, but the only autographed thing of mine is a Panasonic x300 poster(where he signed on it, personally) and it looks NOTHING like Jay's autograph. The more I look at it, the more I doubt whether Jay was using a false hand while signing my poster.

I don't have any way to post it up but i'll just briefly describe it here. I can only see a J then it's like he wrote a capital N, only it was slunting, then followed by a slunting g where you can see the tail curved. Yeah, Jay signed J N G for me

Probably because when he was signing, he talked to me and I shook hands with him. That's why i guess.

when signing for a LOT of people, i'm sure there will be varied versions of Jay's sig just cuz he's doing it so fast. :D and of course, if he wants to change it at any time, that's pretty much up to him. he might not sign this way every time. :-)

rach: in regard to your question about the chinese "lun" and writing the english letters "lun", i'm pretty sure it's the chinese one. it would be rather strange for jay to write the "jie" in chinese and then switch to the romanization for the "lun". but that's just my guess. it might not look chinese simply because of the scribbling. it's just quicker to do that instead of writing all the vertical and horizontal strokes. =P

haha why do i find myself saving this tutorial? lisa you are so funny!! i am laughing my butt off.

why do i feel so evil/dirty seeing that? :brows:

rachelle03
10-10-2004, 06:46 AM
Quite weird too, most likely he's signing the simplified ver. of lun. the traditional one will be more strokes.

ray-chan: felt 'dirty' seeing that? :hmm: why?

wackycashew
10-10-2004, 08:02 AM
actually, i don't think he's signing the simplified version. the strokes would be different if it were simplified. i'm sure you guys have seen some signatures, especially of stars, that are indecipherable... it's just a bunch of squiggles, whether english or chinese. :bleh: so, we probably don't have to be too overly concerned about jay's sig not being exactly like the way you would write it out perfectly... we don't sign that way ourselves, right?

Thanks for the tutorial Lisa! That was so cool! All along, I thought it was just "Jay" with some scribbles, or decorations on top of it. But it's really hard to make out the "lun" in his autograph!

That was a really cool tutorial!! Great job on the analysis!! Diao! :yeah: No worries on not getting any jay signatures, we can forge them ourselves! :D

Yeah, what's with the 'lun'? I don't see the last two strokes of his signature bearing any resemblence to 'lun'?! :? :worry:

wait!!!! if u look at the lun, do u agree tt it looks more like zhou? becuz it seems like zhou to me...

Jay's signature is only a Jay and a chinese character 'Lun' .I saw his signature many times already,he signs a huge JAY first then he signs the 'Lun' , or at least, this was what I saw.

i cannot imagine how you managed to decipher that :/ well the point is HE SIGNED IT
