You added Southern *cries* I'm so touched!!!
I feel like I belong now.

BTW it's funny to say, but I'm getting tired of Jay's new album. I think the hype was too much now after listening to it, and realizing it's not *that* great, I'm almost burnt out.

LOL... We put "southern" in our theme week description below our banners too, Karen. But you didn't even join us.

Anyhow, I still can't get enough of the album.

I feel soooo bad about the whole theme week thing . Being it was partly my idea, I just couldn't get it together. I tried looking for scandalous pictures, but you know how that ends up. So I have no idea how vun came across that picture without having seen *ALOT* of other *THINGS*
*hint hint nudge nudge*

What, Karen? Maybe you should've asked me to look for pix for you?

And what do you mean by "without having seen *ALOT* of other *THINGS*"? :?

And what do you mean by "without having seen *ALOT* of other *THINGS*"? :?

What key words do you search by? :?
Cuz obviously searching for "naked guy" will get you alot of gay porn sites.
I even tried "funny naked guy" but I was afraid to click on the links more than half the time.

Actually, I just got lucky. I was searching for snowboards when I came across that pic. I was going to search for snowboards and naked bodies separately, and I did the snowboard search first.

:lolabove: haha vun... breaking down the process, i see... smart choice to go for the snowboard first. :bleh:

karen, what would you have wanted your set to look like? :? :shifty:

jenna, they rung my doorbell last time when they dropped off the CDs and just propped it against my front door (inside the screen door). =0 i know it's just a local distributor who drives by to drop it off. i hope i'll get it tomorrow. :worry:

Hi north american fans!

I just listened to Jay's album yesterday and I find myself listening to Se7en's album more. :shy: I'm quite disappointed by how the ballads turn out, especially Jie Kou. I wasn't at all touched by it, like how Jay's ballads do. Though I was impressed by his vocal prowess at Stranded, I have to hold my breathe everytime he reaches that high note. I love the sound layers though...Wo De Di Pan, Jiang Jun and Qi Li Xiang has the best sound layers for me.

I haven't gotten my copy yet from YesAsia. I hope I won't get tired of the album before I get the original. So far, I haven't feel that need to listen to it. Though when I do, I feel happy. Right now, I'm loving Duel of Trapped Beasts. I appreaciate how Jay used the palm mute sound. I can't wait till he plays the guitar live.

okay, hehe. when I read about karen's post about the album, I just to insert my thoughts here.

I wish I could fly there on Jay's concert *still wishes to win the lotto*

I think I'm going through the same phase, just maybe at a slower pace.

I feel the 10 tracks going by really fast and I feel like switching to another album just that, I CAN'T!!!!!

I do agree that maybe the hype was too much. I mean.. having to go through the many previews, the getting QLX off the radio stations etc.

Hey Kahel, have you gotten to Yuan You Hui yet? That HAS to be the best track on that album

Yes, I thought that one was pretty. Especially the backing vocals. It's my last song, I always find myself singing it.

Are you guys saving up for his concerts there? I really, really wanna see him live. I'm having a hard time deciding where. Taiwan is much too expensive for me.

Sweetness!

It depends where it is! If It's somewhere I can bus to (24h maximum), than maybe. Otherwise, most likely not.

I think the prices will be outrageous.. I also think that they'd sell out really fast. :)

Hey Kahel

Can i just butt in here? I had exactly the same feeling when I hear GeQian (Stranded), I was like just holding my breath everytime he reach that bridge part....... I just can't get that part out of my head.....

I think the album is still okay, I think it is different, yet still the same quality. Can't say I am sick of it yet.

Makes me feel  when you guys say you're sick of the album already.:cry:

Anyway, feel like not enough hours in a day these couple of weeks. Got 2 exams at the beginning of next week and this week still have to run to school whenever possible to work on the lab portions. Too bad can't bag a microscope and lug it home. (Someone did that last year and they ended up with zero on the exam. ) But on top of that, still gotta finish up my applications (the essay!!!) and try to squeeze a couple volunteering hours in there. Though might not be able to get that done before sending the applications out. I even called and tried going to some place to volunteer my services, and only to find out when I got there already that they THOUGHT I wanted their services instead of just wanting to volunteer. And then they're like no we don't accept volunteers. :glug: Bastards. Become so heartless when they've made it, no consideration for poor students. :-x

Don't even have time to translate some good stuff I see. Good thing there are some good news translators coming out these couple of weeks! Hope they keep it up :D

Anyhow, you guys were complaining about how I love Jay less than you do. But guess what? I'm the slow and steady type. At least I don't go through mood swings like you guys do! I'm still crazy about the album.

Jay's US west coast concert has been confirmed to be on December 18th!!!!!!!!!!! :excited:

Too bad I can't go!!!!!!!!!!! BAH it's on my graduation date...

I'm banking on the east coast concert, hopefully that's not just a rumor, otherwise I'll miss Jay once again, and have to wait another 2 years to see him!!

(December 25th is also a Saturday! So it's highly likely)

anyway, dec. 25 is christmas, will your parents allow you guys to be away from home to watch jielun?

lol I'm 22! Just like you...I don't think my parents care anymore how I spend my Christmas. :D
It's not like we do anything special anymore though, it's the same ol same ol. Besides, the chance to spend Christmas, and possibly New Years in NEW YORK!!! It'd be a nice graduation gift none-the-less. Although I have to find people who are willing to go with me AND willing to spend the $200-300 for VIP tickets...which I know will sell out fast!! But I mean if I'm gonna see Jay, I wanna SEE Jay...that is, close enough to see the pores on his face if possible!

You should come to the states too!!

O M F G.. The one year I don't go to Orange County, California is the year Jay goes to LA to do a concert. Damn, I wanna see him in concert so bad!

Lets see where the location of the east coast concert is. Maybe I'll take a bus there and rent a hotel for a night with friends and we'll head back since it'd be X-Mas break. I mean if it's after the West Coast, then it's a good chance a group of my friends could do it. Of course, we'd be 17 and money wouldn't come so easy for us to travel there by train or bus and buy VIP tickets.

And.. screw X-Mas. This would be the best way to spend X-Mas!! This could be my one and only opportunity to see JAY... LIVE!!!!!!!

kahel
08-13-2004, 09:04 AM
hehe. my grandmother who's very traditionally religious would not talk to me for a month or so if I go to see Jielun on Christmas Day. But come to think of it, I think she'll understand.

New York, Dec. 25...let me buy tickets to the lottery and test my luck.

I'm still waxing whether I'll go to Malaysia, Singapore or HK. of course I'd want VIP tickets, closer to the pores kind of tickets too. :bleh: It's good I have equally crazy over jielun filipino fans to accompany me on that. we'll have a banner, and little philippine flags (yes, we had a meetinig on this. )

Although I have to find people who are willing to go with me AND willing to spend the $200-300 for VIP tickets...which I know will sell out fast!! But I mean if I'm gonna see Jay, I wanna SEE Jay...that is, close enough to see the pores on his face if possible!

I remembered what you said about his skin being as smooth as a baby's bum. Imagine being close to that, with sweat trickling over his face while he sings soulfully. I'd have to get someone to hold me back or I'll forget whatever education I'll have and grab him.

You'll have north american members to accompany you!

I think I have no luck for the West Coast one, since it's so far away and I'm already going deep into the negatives with all the application fees this year. I HAVE NO MONEY!!!!!! The best I can hope for is the New York one, and even that, still!! But I soooooo want to go. I've never been to a concert before. How pathetic am I? Never had an artist that I was be willing to fork out the money for I guess. But this is JAY!! And Christmas in NYC!!! :excited: That'd be so great, that is if I don't have to think about the costs. Plus I've applied to 3-4 schools in the New York area and what if I get interviewed there, or at all of them in November or January? To go back again??:cry:

I don't know. I think it'd be almost the same price for plane tickets whether I go to California or New York. And I know they'll be expensive in December. But if enough of you want to go to either one, I'll probably try my best to go too. I'll be having winter break then.

So quiet here these days.

Anyway, it's funny seeing Maisee's banner/avatar set around these days because that's that character from Final Fantasy right? Moogle? I thought it looked familiar but it wasn't until I saw a few of you talking about it in some other thread that it jogged my memory. Heheh, that's the game my bf has been obsessing over for the last while and he kept on telling me how cute this character is and wanted to buy me the game so I can play too. It's Final Fantasy 11 right? Or 12? The new online one. And I've been like "yeah yeah, later". But only to see that it's quite popular here at jc.net too! :D So is it really worth my time? I always say I don't need another thing to be addicted to, but if it's fun, I'll give it a try after my classes are over and all the other stuff are sent off. Afterall, what else am I going to do during my bumming around year?

Don't ask me whether Final Fantasy is worth your time...cuz I'm a FF freak! I love that series. I bought a PS2 just so I could play FFX (and since it also had a DVD player..why not?). Moogles appear in the older FF (pre FF7). But they make their biggest appearance in FF9. They're everywhere! And oh so cute! I love the traveling one, I can't remember his name (Stilken or something), but after I played the game I looked everywhere (on eBay too) for the stuffed animal version of him. But they were freakin expensive! They don't really appear in FFX, they're only Lulu's doll weapon, and not as cute at all cuz they were dead (or voodoo) version moogles (x's for eyes). I haven't (and never will unless it's free) play FFXI so I dunno if they show up, and in FFX-2, they just make a cameo. But it's FF9 where they're most prominent (and cute!)

edit: I found him! His name is Stiltzkin!

He wears like some kind of traveling army fatique, with a bandana, it's so cute!

Hi guys, I'm 2002. I've wanted to contribute to this thread before but I was really scared to but now I'll join if I'm welcomed.

So the thing you guys are talking about now are braces? Some people think I need braces but others don't think I do. They're pretty crooked, uneven and I need more space but it doesn't look that bad... at least I don't think so. :shy:  I was told if I got braces I'd have to wear it for about 3-4 years!

Maisee, I heard that at first it might hurt for the first 2 days or so or even a week but then you get used to them but I never got them so I wouldn't know. :? But I also heard it doesn't hurt much if you get them when you're young.

Mississauga, small population? Noooooo way, about 650,000 people. One of the best places to live if you ask me. :D It's got a wide range of cultures here, lots of things to do too. Though living here for as long as I have, things get boring and we run out of places to go. Sometimes my friends and I go down to Scarborough or Richmond Hill cuz there are more Asian places there. (and a lot of cute asian girls) =p

Hello hello boy and gals! Welcome to the thread 2002 and welcome back Phalanix and vunsin!!

Yes let's make this thread lively again. Maisee will be gone for about 1/2 a month since she's moving and going to take some time to adjust and get internet connection back. It'll be much lonelier here without her around, but let's give her a surprise and be on page 20 by the time she gets back! :excited:

I've been...busy is not the word, preoccupied I guess? I've been job hunting, sending out many resumes. Today I went into a dental clinic to do some shadowing, and it was quite interesting though kinda boring to be standing around most of the time. But I did see a few root canals and tooth extractions. Interesting indeed and glad that I wasn't put off by seeing the inside of people's mouths. So it looks like dentistry will be a fine path for me. :-)

I've also got a call for a job interview today, for Monday. It'll be for a medical receptionist. Gah, all my years of science courses at school aren't really coming in handy now, but a job is a job and I'm willing to work at any job to earn some money this year. At least it is still related to my field. Anyway, hope I do a good job at the interview and it'll make up for my lack of experience. Yup, that's my day today.

Phalanix
08-28-2004, 01:31 AM
Good luck on your interview Jenna! =)

Speaking of job hunting, I should really start sending out my resumes again and look for work. I've been out of work for way too long. I'm starting to forget everything I've learned from school/work. So you're doing something with dentistry? Hmm, I can't stand going to the dentist, all the picking and drilling and the paaaaaain, the paaaaaaaaaaaaain!! *lol* Well, lucky for me my teeth are near perfect. No adjustments needed.

Hmm... getting to page 20 without Maisee around is gonna be hard! Well, something to strive for so she'll have a nice surprise when she gets back. :wink2:

jakinni
08-28-2004, 01:43 AM
Yeah, I'm applying to dental school for next year, so that's why the year off right now. For me, I think forgetting everything at school won't make much difference since I don't see it coming in handy unless I do something research related or work as a lab technician. I hate job hunting, I get inferiority complex when it comes to it because I have so little experience in things. So I understand how it can be so easy to slack off when needing to find a job, keep saying will send the resume tomorrow and another day goes by.

Pain? Maybe your dentist isn't that good! Have you thought about the fact that it shouldn't hurt if he gave you the right dose of anesthetics and stuff?

Oh, I know what you mean. I don't know how long I've been procrastinating. *lol* I keep telling myself, I'll do it tomorrow, eventually it gets to the weekend and I tell myself, "I'll start fresh on Monday". Monday comes, "I'll do it tomorrow..." *repeat cycle*

Employers now-a-days want all applicants to have experience. Thanks - how are people going to get experience if no one hires them? This is where co-op programs come in handy, I'm so glad I got into it. At least now I have some pretty big company names in my resume... mwuahaha :shifty:

Well, I don't really mean the dentist cause me pain - I was just referring to feeling of dental work make me feel painful. And the sound of that screeching tool makes my head hurt. Bleh, I'm not making any sense here... do do do... :worry:

Another thing that contributes to procrastination is trying to fix up the resume, and actually tailoring the resume to the different jobs. I really hate that because I feel I've either got nothing to write for it or the stuff I do have don't apply to the job at all. Plus I really hate it when I have to change things around and in the process accidentally made a little error in the resume, but don't realize it until I've already sent 5-10 already. It'd be something stupid like formatting or writing a qualification twice. There goes the "attention to detail and organized" part I raved about in my cover letter.

Hehe, I gotta admit, I don't like going to the dentist myself. But with more interaction with dentists at my shadowing, I can see that it's not so bad, it's not as scary as I'd thought. Plus, what's more important than your teeth? You can lose an arm or a leg and still be fine, but without teeth, survival becomes a problem. :-)

kai didn't stalk me. He just professed his love for me in a public forum, that was all.

jenna: Hey, good luck with everything! :wink2:

I hope I'll be able to come here in the future... I mean, there might be some drastic changes in my life in the next couple of weeks, and that will include not having DSL connection. Well... that's like just a small part of the problems!

Vun: I know!!! :hugz: How did I ever live all these years without you? You are my sunshine and it pains me whenever I have to part from you in this forum.

Jenna: I understand the thing about editing resumes! Grrr... one little mistake and it messes everything up and all the indents get screwed up! *lol* But what I hate most is writing cover letters - soooooooooooooo annoying. Hmm, well if I loose all my teeth, guess I'll have to start eating through a tube. hehe

Phalanix, nice to know you don't really stalk people. Sorry, I get real scared by that kind of stuff. :worry:

Phalanix
08-29-2004, 08:18 AM

jakinni
08-31-2004, 06:16 AM
Theme week? I think we may hold off on another one for awhile since we had one for this thread not so long ago. And some people kinda had trouble getting their sets together, so the next one we have we won't make it so demanding. In fact, didn't we kind of agree on it being a "favourite noob" week? :shifty: But it won't be for awhile yet, need a break, so stick around 2002 and Kai for that!! :D

I had the job interview today, it was fine, but the pay sucks ass. Anyway, I got another interview, but I have to call them tomorrow to set the time. Unfortunately it's kinda far and inconvenient by public transport, in Concord, and I kind of really want to go to the interview tomorrow in fear of them hiring someone else before I get my turn. But my insurance on the car doesn't come into effect until Wednesday (the 1st), so I'll need to bum a ride off of someone tomorrow if the interview is indeed tomorrow. I don't like doing that because no matter how reliable others are, it's better to rely on yourself to get to places and on time. I've learned this from being late 1/2hr to an exam before!!! But once again, they don't disclose the pay in the ad, so hopefully I won't get a bad shock.

See, who says we don't have much to talk about now? We can just all talk about me!

And it seems when the thread title says "Ontario" it actually just means people from GTA and surrounding areas!

Hehe, maybe next time we should write Southern and Midwest US + GTA Canada Fans Who Love Jay. But then someone new might be from somewhere else and wouldn't know if they could join or not. :shy:

Plus, this is where all the action is in Ontario, all the other places are meh!! Favourite n00b week? Hmm... that'd be me then. Cuz eeeeeeeveryone just love me (pfft, yeah right)!!!

"Phalanix? Who's Phalanix? What a weird screen name! FREAK!'

*lol*

Hope everything works out for your next interview. Concord, huh? Ouch - that's far for public transit. But not so bad if you're driving, about 20-30 minute drive from GTA depending where you are. If you're reaaaaaaaaally desparate - I can help drive'ya if you want (I know that sounds freaky), but I got nothing to do anyway - so if you're really stuck, I wouldn't mind helping'ya out. Feel free to PM me if'ya need help. In any case, best of luck on your interview! :D

2002: Heeeey, what do you mean people in their 20's are partying careless teens?! *lol* I feel so old. *hits head* Maybe it's cuz of school? Hmm - I don't know! But I feel old, like my life's over already. hahaha

jakinni
08-31-2004, 07:12 AM
2002, hmm really? I kind of think of myself as one of the "not so together 22 year olds" I mean others are doing grad school or med school or whatever school or they're out of school and using their degree FOR something instead of it just being nice decoration under their names. *sigh* Maybe I just need to get this first job to feel like I'm not totally wasting my time. And does your parents restrict you from the internet after school starts? That never happened to me way back when. Or is it just your super powerful willpower and self control?

Kai, maybe for the next thread part, we'll just quietly switch it over to GTA! Hehe and thanks for the offer of being my chauffeur! :D Actually I've kind of warned a couple of people about the possibility of my needing their help tomorrow, so hopefully that'll work out. I'm also going to try to call the insurance company in the morning and see if it can start tomorrow and problem solved, except I don't drive that often so hope I'm not too rusty in it. btw, do you know if insurance companies calculate fees by month or by day? I mean tomorrow is the 31st, so will they charge a whole month if it starts on that day??? :?

Phalanix
08-31-2004, 07:23 AM
Jenna: Yes, we'll secretly switch it to GTA... mwuahahaha >=) Hope everything works out for you tomorrow then - but I'm here as a last resort if you need help, I'd be glad to help. =) As for the insurance, they calculate by day. So depending on when you start, they'll calculate it from then. If'ya end up driving yourself, becareful on the road! Safety first. =)

Phalanix
08-31-2004, 09:25 AM
Jenna: Well, normally my info is just full of bs, that's about it. But as for driving, I guess the best thing to do is to just "drive" the car and not to worry too much. Be alert, but not worry... =P Important thing is to check blind spots while changing lanes, and don't forget to signal! >=) Speaking of insurance, I find it unfair that males have a higher rate. No offense to women drivers out there, but from my experience majority of the horrible drivers on the road are women. Too bad there are so many stupid punk boys who like to race their ricer Honda Civics. Yah, thanks for ruining the insurance rates for the rest of us good drivers. Bastards.

Kai, wahaha!! My bf drives a Honda Civic but he'd rather die than to say his car is riced. As for which gender is the worse driver, I don't know, you've got to compare between slow/annoying drive to aggressive/annoying drive. Which is worse? Which causes more accidents? But for sure the accidents that are caused by aggressive driving are usually more severe than the former.

Phalanix
08-31-2004, 05:17 PM
Jenna: That's true, that's true! ^_^ Guess I was just speaking in terms of general driving. As in, horrible lane changes, cutting people off, not signaling, people who don't obey traffic signs, no courtesy, etc. And what annoys me the most are people who drive, and no matter what they just have to drive at the speed limit, if they go over 1 or 2 km, they keep hitting the brake to slow down back to the limit. -_- Stop hitting the brakes, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease!! Just drive the car!!! heehee, well there are good Civic drivers out there too - I'm sure your bf is one of them.

I worked from 11am to 11pm, and work involved moving hundreds of long tables and thousands of chairs, and throwing away bag after bag of heavy garbage! It was our biggest annual school event, the Bronco Bash. It's the annual welcome back "party" for all students, but everyone in the community is welcome to attend. Hello, it's me again. Today I went on the second interview for that job that pays next to nothing. The person who interviewed me was really nice and basically wants to hire me. Except there are two openings, one is in Mississauga and it's full time, one is in Downsview but part time for now. She asked me to check out the Mississauga one tomorrow and see how I feel about it, so I agreed. But now I look at the map....:dead: It's so far away!!!!!!! I don't know if I want to travel so far just for the measley dollars. Plus my parents don't want me to go that far either, they're not too confident in my driving abilities I guess. Well, I guess I'll still go tomorrow and check it out.

I'm also going to do a few days of training(they check me out, I check them out) for this other medical clinic, the doctor who talked to me was very nice. However, it's only part time meaning maybe 2 full days of work a week. I want to do this job because it pays better and I think I'll get more of the kind of experience I want in this one, but I don't know how it'll fit in. So that's also swaying me to pick the part time location of the previous job.

Then, I also have an interview tomorrow morning for this note taking service, they pay pretty well, except it's kind of an on-call thing, so can't rely on that for food money. I figured that'd be nice to do on the side. So yes, I'm really hoping to fit all 3 jobs in, just not sure if I should choose the full or part time one in the first job offer.

Are you guys bored of reading my daily report everyday? I feel hectic and I haven't even confirmed or started any of the jobs yet. Must be what vunsin feels like all the time with what seems like so many jobs all the time.

September has started, and it feels weird to not be preparing/gearing up for school. I went to Walmart and Staples today to get some office supplies and it's strange to be amongst all the people getting back to school stuff.

I guess Kai is the only person here to keep you company for the time being until Maisee comes back. :D Since I think Jenna is pretty busy, well from reading all the stuff she writes here at least.

Jenna: Wow, you are like just... wow. :glug: You're so hard-working! :-) You're job-hunting, going to many interviews, going back to school (I think...?). Good luck to you in your interview err... or is it interviewS? Heh, sorry I kind of got lost after reading your report.

2002: Hey, you can't complain about being busy! I go to grad school full-time and I have 4 jobs! Anyhow, I think kai is busy too. *sigh* Everyone's leaving me.

Well, seriously speaking I'm not too busy at the moment, I'm still a bum at home. But I've been out quite a lot lately, get some fresh air, check out the girls *grin* and to loose some of that weight I collected during the past 3 years sitting in the college's networking lab.

Me need job - wanna hire me to do something? *lol*

Jenna: Not bored at all by your daily reports - it's actually motivating me to do some job hunting! hahaha, really though - you are very impressive. I don't know you all that well, but I'm finding you very admirable. :D

kai: If you want to work for free then I'd be happy to hire you. I need money more than you do! And hey, chasing after girls (I mean literally) might help you lose weight.

well I'm glad to see this thread popping back to life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I made my move, got settled in and just started school. Course I need to get my schedule changed and all but other than that, things are the same. Hmm.... don't really like my relatives but hey! free rent, what can you ask for more?

are we talking about cars? huh. I have no ideas about cars so I'm going to go "lalala" and play with my pink moustache and wait till I come back to lurk around here again.

Maisee!!!!!!!!!!! :hugz: So is this just school internet or have you gotten internet access for youself at home? Get back on quick so we can resume our regularly scheduled programming of trash talking.

vunsin, must be tough to be back into the school mode. It was already tough for me having time off between the spring and summer terms. I think all during the summer term, I never fully got back into things, a lot of slacking off. Anyway, I hope this WHOLE year being off won't screw me over once I go back to school next September (fingers crossed). How do you find time to have FOUR jobs!?!? :glug:

Kai, admirable? All actions borne out of necessity. I'm actually a very lazy person, if I didn't have to get dressed and go out, I'd lounge around all day in bed or infront of the computer. Sometimes I'm so lazy I wish there was TV screen on the ceiling so I don't have to crank my neck when watching stuff.

2002, don't get lost in here, it's not so bad actually, only a page or so of new posts at a time at most. You should tell us some stuff about yourself too. Like what's your name since you know ours. :-)

Today I went to the med clinic for "job training" and OMG this was like the most slave driving doctor's office I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!! First of all, there's usually ONLY ONE receptionist for 2-3 doctors. The doctor wants the receptionist to double book patients (ie. more than one patient booked at each appointment time slot) plus they take all the drop-in patients because they're so damn greedy. So at any given time there'd be 5-6 patients lined up in front of the counter waiting for the receptionist to put them in queue. It's like no time to sit down at all since it's constant flow of people. But on top of that there's phone calls to be made and files to be filed back. Actually today is supposed to be one of the "not so busy" days, plus there's me and the other receptionist there so it already cut down the work load. And everything's so disorganized because it's so cramped in there and actually no time to be organized. I'm seriously reconsidering working here, but it's hard to get experience in a doctor's office otherwise. I dunno.

Jenna: Ha well uhh... I actually really appreciate it if everyone here continues to call me 2002. :wink2: As for details about myself? Umm... I think I'll be a "mystery' person for now.

vunsin, another job!?! How many hours do you average at each of those jobs? I'm just wondering how you have time for anything?!

Maisee, public library? I tried logging onto jc.net one day at a public library and it was like torture, slow and everything loaded up funny. I hope you're settling in fine. Any dirt on the relatives?! :shifty:

Kai, Woohoo job hunting!! Any interviews yet? :excited:

Today I went to this other job "interview/training" thing. Basically I think they want to hire me, told me come in for the full day again tomorrow. Except I think I shouldn't have told them I'm considering going back to school next year, makes them a little hesitant. It's just a data entry job, but it pays well and more relaxing than the other doctor's office job. It's 3 days/week, but maybe if I don't do the other job, I can do 4 days/week for this one. If they hire me that is.

Guy A: Isteri aku garang macam harimau.
Guy B: Isteri aku hari-hari mau!

Translation:
Guy A: My wife is fierce like a tiger. (tiger = harimau)
Guy B: My wife everyday wants! (hari-hari = everyday; mau = wants)

Well... it sounds funnier in Malay. Anyhow...

vunsin
09-13-2004, 06:09 AM
Black stripe? :hmm: Do you mean Black belt? :glug: That would be pretty high! Different schools have slightly different belt system, I think. How did yours work?

Phalanix
09-13-2004, 08:32 AM
Black Stripe would be 1 level below black belt. Basically I had a red belt with a black stripe on it. Let's see, I think the ranking went as follows for my school:

White
White - Yellow Stripe
Yellow
Yellow - Green Stripe
Green
Green - Blue Stripe
Blue
Blue - Red Stripe
Red
Red - Black Stripe
Black

And then you have the different degrees for black belt... =P

kai...... when is your birthday? Random but I'm wondering.

vunsin
09-13-2004, 10:10 PM
kai: That's almost the same as ours. But we don't have any stripes. I mean, we don't call anything stripes. Here's what we have:

White
Yellow
Yellow-Green
Low Green
High Green
Low Blue
High Blue
Low Red 4
Low Red 3
High Red 2
High Red 1
Black Belt (9 degrees)

Some schools have purple somewhere, I think.

Maisee, your banner  We know you appreciate Pei and all, but that's not the way to show appreciation for her or for Jay!! Is that supposed to be Jay-sailormoon edition?

gaoy, welcome back. But I think you have people in this thread confused. I'm Jenna and I didn't clean up the member list, I think you're probably referring to Karen (jayx8318x), our admin extraordinaire. Hey you speak French? :excited: French is one of the official languages of Canada and I still know squat despite having taken it up until grade 10.

vunsin or Kai, whichever answers first, how is it to get to different colour levels in martial arts? Like how long does it usually take on average? Obviously the higher you go the longer it takes, but just wondering.

Anyway, I found a new job, I start Monday on that one and it's finally a full time position, Monday to Friday, 9-5. :yeah: The one I'm currently at is only 4 days though the pay is a little better than the full time one. So it's a trade off I guess. Oh well. I'm really sick of the job hunting, just want to settle on one and go with it for at least a period of time.

Maisee: Hahaha who's your lady friend? :wink2: Wanna introduce me to her? heehee
Jenna: Welcome back! :hugz: Well, it really depends on the school you're with. Some places schedule tests at a regular basis, and you take the tests (spar and do your 'patterns'). Then I guess your masters/instructors will grade you to see if you pass. If you do then you get moved up on the belt level. So, how fast you move up depends on when you have the tests and if you are good enough to pass the tests. Well, that's how my school did it anyway. And as I move up higher on the belt level, I also had to memorize more patterns and perform them during tests.

And congrats on your new job, Jenna!! ^_^

vunsin
09-16-2004, 02:52 AM
Jenna: Those "patterns" are called "forms" in our school. How we take the test is basically the same as what kai has explained to you. If your master think you're good enough to be promoted to the next level, he/she will recommend that you take a test at the next testing date.

Hey, new job? :excited: Congratulations! :D

What do you mean pronounce R's the Chinese way? :glug: I don't think there's any difficulty. It's just like English. It's a little harder in Spanish, with the double R's, but there's nothing extraordinary about it in Chinese.

msv
09-16-2004, 09:40 PM
I love saying the spanish r's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :excited: It feels as if I'm giving my tongue good excercise hehee.

Jenna, congrats with the new job!!!!! :kisschee: dude, I probably can't catch you on MSN anymore with your schedule and mine's (and I have to get internet in the first place hehee). This whole relationship with you guys here feel like a summer romance mwuahahhaah.

French... ooh I dropped out this year. Took 5 years of french and didn't learn much except for some grammer stuff, how to say my name and identifying clothes. Last year, the teacher made us sing french kiddy songs half the time. >< Horrid horrid.

gaoy: Are you talking about the "Beijing accent" where they exaggerate the "r" and "sh" when they talk? Actually, I prefer the "Taiwanese accent," which is more "plain" and the words are pronounced more clearly.

msv
09-20-2004, 04:26 AM
hehe, I like the Beijing accent. It takes me back to those days when I was still a kid and I use to watch classical chinese movies where its all romanticized and the chinese people trying to break away from Britian (most of the plot was, always made me so proud cause I'm a sucker for those type of movies).

I'm in a good mood guys!!!! I just heard utada hikaru song "exodus 04" and it reminds me alot of my parents (who are in arkansas) so just makes me miss them haha.

you know..Utada's album takes getting use to. When I first heard it, I was totally put off cuz the lyrics were either too corny, or too abstract. But there are some gems in there. And those songs have like so many "layers" to them, it's pretty impressive I think.

vun I'm so happy you're having fun babysitting kids. Are they angels??. I know you said cute, but my baby sister Rita (1 years old!!!) is cute but heck, I'd strangled her if I could. And before she left to Arkansas with my parents, she fell down the stairs (about 5 steps) cause she wanted to go outside. She didn't cry oddly. She just got pissed and wanted to go outside even more haha.

yes, we have pepfest too. Homecoming is coming up too. *sigh* Of all the 3 years I've been in high school, I've never ever been to homecoming. I plan the dances and the pepfests and stuff but imo, dances are boring and I'd rather catch a movie, go bowling or running down the streets of downtown than be stuck in a room filled with rowdy teens. (yes I'm a senior too). Dude I bet you, somehow somewhere I've probably seen you before but just don't know OR you're related to me some how because that's just how hmong people are hahaha.

hey! I wanna know what you did now muahahaha!!!!!! Don't tell me you threw a balloon at the principal or spiked the juice at pepfest or something! please... I'm a curious child.

eeek, I need to start worrying about my college applications and scholarships search so yeah, let's not talk about it. I'm stress haha. BTW, have you seen that magazine (I just found out it existed a couple weeks ago, yes I'm really out of touch), Hmong Teen or is it Teen Hmong? anyways, I think I might send in something to earn extra cash on the side. But the problem would lie in what to write, surely not about the problems of hmong teens and parents and traditional intolerance the youths have now adays to shamanism. I'll just get flame by little thugs going "hmong pride! hmong pride!" I did just apply to a job at a library though.

hey~ lol i havent been in the forums since the beginning of summer, just thought i'd check out some of the subforums. I don't recall this thread, so i thought I'd come say hi! hey Seltsi! Welcome to our thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :welcome: Where are you from in the midwest if you don't mind me asking?

Goa, I can so feel what you're going through! :kisschee: I know how hard it is to speak in all hmong without reverting back to english. Heck, I made my grandma cried once as a kid cause I couldnt' speak all hmong for her.

dude, I'm so glad you joined though! One of my friend joined the hmoob greenbay thingy just this memorial holiday. I'm going to cheer you!!!!!! I mean back in the past, I really looked at pageants in a negative way because I thought it was insulting for girls to prance around their looks and answer stupid "what ifs" questions that doesn't make logical sense. But once I talked to a couple of those girls, they really are genuine in what they believe. And like you and I who can't speak our language that great, its a good way to come back to our roots hahaha.

girl is alright to be nervous! It's for this new year's celebration no?! :excited: Ok, i'll be the chick in the front yelling "nyob zoo jay!!!!" so you'll know its me when they call you ok?

ilmao, gaoy and msy i'll admit it, i'm also hmong, so i can totally relate to what u guys just mentioned up there. are u running for the st. paul new year pageant gaoy? (i'm from minnesota, btw) there's always a lot of shady things going on, but good luck on it. and yeah it is harder speaking hmong than english if u've been raised up here, but its also a good experience for improving ur skills too. And all the girls in there aren't necessarily "HTT/MTT" they're just more into the traditional way of things i guess. Don't be too harsh on them! ^^;;

My mom would never let me join it (not that i want to lol) because she has a low opinion of it, but have fun in it! (Oh and whatever u do, please don't say in ur free time u enjoy spending all of it helping ur parents out around the house, b/c half the girls who said it before are so lying! lol)

msv
10-01-2004, 05:29 AM
hehe... seltsi, I've never really had a high opinion on pageants but I think over the years I've learned to be more "generous" towards them and like I said before and what you mentioned: at least it connects us to our roots.

Goa... I wish you the best of luck and tell us when it will be held!!! :excited: (sorry, the only thing I know know for a fact is when the July 4th tourn. will be held hahaha )

Kai, you changed your banner set!!! is that you? hmm? hmm? HMMM?!!! :excited: You look buffer than I thought you initially were from those pixs heheh. No wonder you took karate eh?

I'm not the star of the thread... I'm simply the crouchy senile producer in the background, while vun and you guys are the special actors bringing it to life. :wink2:

(we miss you by the way!)

School's aight... I've been slacking off. >< But after this week, I shall redeem myself and do better ahahha. ><

Kai, how is your apartment moving going so far?! :excited: And vun, what did you learn in taekowndo now? In TOK class, my teacher taught us the basic form/stance! :excited: yeah I was damn happy since I never got a chance to take any form of martial art class before (dance class instead) so that really perked up my day.

ok I know this like is sorta off topic and stuff, but I just got done watching the presidential debate and did any of you guys watched it? Imo if Canada broadcast it or not though. ><

Gao: Wow, that does sound a bit suspicious...I guess it's hard to tell this early into the pagaent whether anything shady is really happening, but I'll admit, it's strange. Seems like since he knew them he was willing to grant them a favor and let them enter the pagaent late...so if he's willing to do that now, who knows what he might be willing to do later on? Of course, if the girls are nice according to what u said, maybe they're geniune. I think it's still too early to tell, but just be aware of things.

Nice meeting u guys, Kai and Maisee! lol wow everyone in here sounds like they're all so close and familiar with each other...^___^

Btw, u guys can call me Julia/Shoua, one or the other.

hey I have a friend by the name Shoua too! and Julie! mauahahahah! Welcome to our humble thread and hope to see you stick around! :kisschee:

goa... yeah, with Hmong pageants, its hard to guarantee fairness since most of the judges are either bribed or they vote for their nieces, cousins, granddaughters up there. >< But on the positive side, it has gotten a lot better over the years as people start to crack down and stuff! Anyways, good luck and keep us update on the pratice runs! I should have gone with my friend to Wisconsin when she ran for the pageant there but alas... school is a mighty foe.

moving is tough, just take your time and settle in. :kisschee: I know you've had a lot of things going on so no sweat, I'm just glad to see you're back!!!!!! Even if on dial-up (like me! I can only use it late late at night when no one is calling ><) I miss my DSL too. I think I might get the Qwest plan instead of high speed from Time Warner now.

Your presence around the forum has been dearly missed vun vun! the daniel wu thread hasn't been kicking like it should and the "I love Jolin pixs" thread just ain't the same hahahah. I'm just happy you're back though.

vun vun.. awww that's horrible but at least you have a roof over your head for the time being! But you'll be so busy with work, school and other things that the apartment will just be a place to sleep, take a shower and eat. *crosses finger*

Yeah, dial up is horrible. I'm using it now and it just takes me forever to get a picture uploaded at photobucket. Are you going to get your DSL back after you settle down then?

vunsin
10-02-2004, 09:00 AM
Haha... since I'm practically sleeping right on the floor already, I can just do that anywhere, like in my office, which would probably be more comfortable, btw. And the bathroom is just NASTY. :bigyuck: Well... so is the floor I'm sleeping on. It has stains, cracks, and something strange (it looks like somebody just puked on the floor and somebody else painted right over it) that I can't wipe off no matter what! Well... since I'm living on campus, I can't get DSL, because the phone service is under the university's name. I can get Cable though. I mean, Cable for TV is free, but for internet, I have to pay $80 a semester. That's not too bad, but I have to get a modem first...

Yeah, I take IB, and I am trying to go for the diploma, so that means paying a ton of money for the exams. I don't know if I'll last the year though, since Physics and Intergrated Math are currently trying to kill me. Hopefully I survive this year. And no, lol Henry and South are in Minneapolis, where I used to live, but now I'm in St. Paul so I go to Central. Where are you from, Maisee?

Kai: Hahha hopefully that's not true...actually it doesnt seem like it, everyone here seems pretty nice so far.

Gaoy: Sounds harsh, smart of u to take it like a man. Just dont let them see how their provocations are getting to you. Seltsi
10-09-2004, 05:47 AM
Gaoy: Yeah, I don't blame you on ur view on Harding, and truthfully I thought harding was ghetto too so it never made it on my hs list. Como was my second choice after Central. No wonder I don't see Mona around anymore, that makes sense.

Free papaya and food is always good, but there's a price to pay right? lol but I don't think that things are going too badly from what u say, so I'm sure u can survive the competition. And if the other girls aren't bothered by being herded about, then I guess u should try to deal with it the best u can. I'll admit, I wouldn't like it too much myself. Is the bubble tea there good? I haven't tried them, and isn't the flea market closed? If not, I think I'll take a trip there this weekend. =P

oh Kai!!!!! If you see Lee Hom, can you also tell him that I love his hair and get me his stylist number? Purty please?

My sentiments exactly Kai haha. I wanna know how the rest of the world is. I read in books and see it in movies all the time, but I guess I can never know what life really is out of america unless I actually experienced it you know?

OMG!!! VUN!!!!!! WINTER IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (after fall ends which will in a month or two!!!!!!!) :bounce: Call me overly excited about it but haha, I love winter and I love snowmans and snowball fighting and sledding!!!!!!!!

LOL, Mai See, ur excitment reminds me of one of my coworker's over snow. He just moved up to MN to go to college here from Florida, so he's never actually seen snow before. So today, it started sleeting, and he got really excited. My manager and I were like, you'll get sick of the snow eventually, and he's like nope, never. After he left, my manager was like, when it's 40 below zero and snow up to his waist, he'll hate it. :D She's right, it's hard to adjust to it when you're a southerner. And really, I'm dreading winter myself. I cannot stand the cold. >_<

I don't like skiing, but I love snowboarding. I just feel so awkward having to control all four limbs when I'm skiing! When I'm snowboarding, I only need to concentrate on one thing. My friends think I'm crazy too, because I wish for snow 365 days a year.

How's everyone doing? =)

Count me in in the winter loving here. The cold fall weather is just starting here and I really love the feeling of stepping outside the house the in morning and breathing in that first breath of cold fresh air. Ahh, nothing beats it. Plus I like wearing sweaters and layers and coats and jackets because it feels so cozy! Being inside and watching the a snow storm outside feels really cozy too. I even like shoveling snow (to a degree). :D

So yeah, I'm back from hiatus.

Snowboarding, reminds me of how much sufferin my wrists went through last year when I tried it for the first time. I'm still suffering from carpal tunnel that developed from my summer fling with jc.net. And you know who's fault that is? Jolin's!!! Yup, I distinctly remember that summer night. I was up late making them damn screen caps of Jolin's First Love rendition and my wrist/arm was hurting, but Jolin's face egged me on to do more. Ever since then, my left arm has never been the same. It feels tingly when I rest it. It was better for awhile, only feeling a bit tired, but now it's back again, especially since I have to type so much at my job. Thus, the conclusion of my story is that the only thing I can think of to do during my winter vacation would be to rest my poor arm/wrist. Snowboarding then would only be going for the kill. I have no other period of time to devote to arm rest. Weekends are only 2 days and it's not enough.

So it was Jolin's fault? You have a pretty valid reason to hate her, I guess. She's a pain in the... uh... wrists!

You know what, I'm feeling a little sick, like I wanna throw up, just from reading her name repeatedly in your post!

whee I don't have school for 2 more days so time for me to sleep but *doh* I still have tons and tons of school work and papers to write.

I hate shoveling snow, I hate when I get a cold, I hate it when my feet and fingers look like dried grape fruits or when my car doesn't start, but its worth it when a snowball slams into someone and I don't miss teehee. (j/k).

Gao... IMO, I don't like Jolin cause she's fake and doens't have talent? her singing ability isn't so bad, she can hit certain notes and well, look at Britney, she's worser as a singer yet is still ever so popular. With Jolin, I guess she just invites people to insult her you know? Her lips are just fun to make fun of and she assimilates to whatever trend is supposedly popular so she doesn't have her own uniqueness.

Jenna, welcome back! :kisschee: Oh hey, I'm filing a lawsuit against The Twins for wrecking my nerves into utter annoyance and beyong repair for a $10,000 lawsuit... want me to draw one up against Jolin for you?

Hey vun... nice jacket. :shifty:

Wow vunsin you seem really busy! And I mean busy busy, instead of just preoccupied busy, which is me.

Speaking of clothes, I spent $300 on clothes last weekend, and I NEVER spend so much on clothes or go shopping all that much in general. But I just had a sudden urge to buy some "grown up" clothes. ie. not jeans or sweat shirts. Anyway, so I bought this really cute pink (YES PINK Maisee :D ) trench coat type of thingy. And also some sweaters and other jackets. Now I realize the joy of shopping, and actually buying something instead of just looking. Anyway, yeah don't think it'll be a regular thing though, still poor. All the money coming in goes out pretty soon to paying various fees. *sigh*

So anyone has plans for Halloween?

vunsin

 You do need "grown up" clothes when you enter the workforce. Before I started my assistantship, I was uncomfortable being all dressed up, but now I'm used to it.

Halloween? I'm at home and studying for my mid-term exam! And I had to work last night and the night before. So...

somehow being in the university setting puts me in a sloppy mode....
i mean, over summer i'd get used to dressing up more, but once i get back to school, it'll be right smack to the jeans and sweatshirts mode for me
as my friend puts it - its the starving student look.

just to divert the topic away a little....vunsin and all you other potential people who love to ski....where would you guys recommend? decent slopes, decent price? during xmas week....?
its horrendously expensive then, but to accommodate a couple of friends who are working, sigh, we'll have to go during the possible most expensive period ever!!!

I don't ski. I snowboard! I think skis are just.... kinda dumb. I don't know what to recommend. I'm pretty broke most of the time and I actually own a car that can't go out of town (i.e. it won't go faster than 50mph, so I can't go on the highway), so I pretty much depend on my friends. Whenever they're free and want to go, that's when I get to go. We usually go to a ski resort that's the closest to Kalamazoo. There are two within 40 minutes of Kalamazoo: Bittersweet and Timber Ridge.

Present from the government. It's actually more like your present to them. Or more precisely, your parents' gift to the government. Congrats gaoy!! :D

Back to the clothing topic (sorry, can't help with the skiing locale), although one would imagine college students as all being sloppy dressers, at least that's what I thought before entering uni, but after entering, it's like everyone is all so made-up. Sloppiness is only reserved for cram/exam periods I think. Otherwise, I tend to people who are dressed up over people who just rolled out of bed.

gaoy: You turned 18 just in time to vote?

jenna: Oh... you'll see people from both extremes. Especially when you're in grad school. Some people dress like they still live in the residence halls (you know, they look like they just got out of bed wearing their pajamas and then decided to walk to class). Others (like myself, who have a "professional job" before class) would dress in their work clothes. Of course, there are those in-between's who wear T-shirts and jeans.

Vun vun!!!!!!!!!!!! Its nice to see you back!!!!! Heard you did some physical activites during your trip!!! :excited: I remembered going to Eagle Bluff back in 6th grade (a camp) and I had to do high rope climbing/crossing. I mean... Oh sorry vun, I just got excited since my senior class is taking a road trip to Florida and so it just slipped and stuff.

Do you guys mind telling me about your college application experiences? I'm doing mine's at the moment and deadline is looming and I guess I'm a bit nervous at the whole process and stuff since it isn't like High School where you simply sign up and get in (at least in America).

It's not the first time, maisee. Why don't you just respond in VIP?

Anyhow, college application can become a headache, especially if you have no clue what you want to do and where you want to go. And then there are the deadlines... When I apply for my undergrad program, I was still in Malaysia, and then I transferred here, so it was different. And I apply to grad school here at the same university where I obtained my undergrad degree, so I think that made things a lot easier and faster.

msv
11-22-2004, 06:51 AM
oh.. I'm truly sorry vun. Won't happen again. :kisschee:

I think I know what I want to do but like you said, the deadlines and just the process itself is a headache. hey vun, don't you miss Malaysia sometimes? I don't know... I think I remember mostly the unhappy times that I had when I was in Malaysia, so... And since I don't really have a home there anymore, it's kinda hard to think of it as home. I don't know... There's really nothing I can do about it. I don't have any close friends in Malaysia anymore. Almost everyone's married and most of them have kids already. I can't relate to them anymore. Sometimes I'd call one or two of them just to chat, and we always disagree about a lot of things. I mean, they've never been out of Malaysia before and I tend to see a lot of things differently even before I left Malaysia, so now I'm even more different!

Well, at least you made a home of some sort here in America and plus, you're furthering your education to boot too.

I went down south for thanksgiving (which was pretty relaxing and something I really needed) and returning to Minnesota, I had to take the bus back since my dad didn't want to pay $600 on plane tickets. That was the longest 20 hours of my life.

It's snowing heavily again. I think there's already at least 6 inches of snow out there. I went to Meijer's with my best friend (who came from Chicago to see me) at around 10:30pm. We spent more time talking than shopping (which was a good thing!) and when we were done, it was already around 2am! When we walked out of Meijer's, we were like :glug: because there was so much snow! We both love snow though.
