The first time I heard Jay's "Qi Li Xiang," I thought the chorus sounded awfully familiar. I couldn't figure out why until one day I was humming the chorus of QLX but sang the words "I wanna stay" from Nan Quan Mama's "Xiao She Ho" (Childoood) instead. So I played NQM's XSH and the first line of the chorus reallllly does sound like the first line of QLX's chorus. For those of you who have heard both songs, is it just me or do the two really sound very similar???
[EDIT: I am making no implication that any copying occurred b/t Jay and Nan Quan Mama. The question is exactly as it appears--do the first lines of the 2 choruses sound alike?]
well i don't think it sounds too similar...
only the first part there..i wanna stay and the yu xia zheng ye..
because both have the "dragging" part
but i think jay just thought of the song not copying xiao shi hou
i agree that some parts of "Qi Li Xiang" sound similar to "Xiao Shi Hou" especially the instrument used for the intro of the song
You know what sounds extremely NQMM?
Track 08. Duel of Captive Beasts
and
NQMM's Summer - Track 04 Bai Se Lie Hen.

There are like 200+ countries, each with their own famous musicians. So it's not a very big deal if we find that a few notes in certain part of this song is so similar with another song. Cuz c`mon, there's only these much music notes, so no matter how you play, some parts of your music will definitely clash with another song.
I just listened to Yuan You Hui and I found that the chrous is very similar to a song Jay created from Wilber pan wei Bo called "Zhan Zai Ni Shen Bian". But that's normal, cuz all these songs' music are created by Jay :bleh: Just as long as Jay insist on originality, no one wil be able to say that Jay copy music... :)
i agree to HaNaBi tt theres so many songs around the world and it is possible tt they have parts of the melody similar....coz they might think of the similar melody tt fits the song....i will say tt its only a coincidence that xiao shi hou has a part similar to qilixiang......why would jay wanna copy it?? i mean this could affect his reputation...and he is the type who wanna keep his....

1. No offense, but I have every right to say that a part of Jay's song sounds similar to a part of someone else's song.
2. It's important to stay objective, no matter how much you like Jay. It's not fair to say Jay's being copied just because you like Jay. Where's the evidence? And "copying" others' styles is something almost every musician does, consciously or unconsciously. People have ears, so they can't help it if they're somewhat influenced by what they hear. And no, I am not saying Jay is a copy-cat. I am merely saying that there is no proof he is copied.
3. As many have suggested, with a limited number of notes, songs are bound to sound similar at some point. Jay and Nan Quan Mama have been working together for years... of course it's possible that they have a few similar beats. All I wanted to know was if anyone else thought the first chorus lines from the two songs sound alike. That simple.

Well well, this just shows that his music and style is spreading all around the entertainment ring tight? Thats something to celebrate!!! Since in Wai Po's lyrics he mentioned something about people not recognizing his hardwork and efforts......
Anyway, we should be open, as Dong Feng Puo says... after all, there only 8 notes... there are always bound to be repetitions... cant be avoided...

hmm... the chord and tune used in that sentence is similar... but both is sang with different emotions... "yu xia zheng ye..." sound soft and light... and more of melodious... but the "I wanna stay~" is more elaborated, and has more bass... and more heavy.. that made a lot difference... and that tune is also of the same melody as britney's "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" where in the chorus, "I'm not a girl~" sounds just like QLX "yu xia zheng ye" and "I wanna stay~" it is just that this type of opening for chorus is commonly used... course it is some sort of graduation of a chord...

Well, i think there is some similarity but it's common... jus like bluesnowflakes mentioned, there's afterall only 8 musical notes... with these 8 notes n u want to come with million, billion n zillion or practically uncountable number of songs to contribute to the music industry n nt have any similarity in the tune is definitely impossible... but i believe the similarity is definitely not intentional... it's jus all concidence...

well you can take any song and for each part of the song, there will be someone who has used that melody before. Meaning...you can't really do an "original melody" anymore...there's way too much music out there. The most you can do is to combine different melodies. That way, there will always be parts that are similar to an older song...
