has anyone here heard of machi??
they're supposedly taiwan's first hip hop group...
dun really have much info on them.. but members in s'pore can listen to one of their songs sung by machi didi (youngest member) played on 93.3.
they're quite good..
anyone with more info pls share.. thanks

They are pretty cool....
the little boy...His name is Andrew i think...He is really cute and he can rap very well....
Machi doesn't have good looks but they are very talented and they have their own style...
i think they'll make it big :)

well heard their song over the singapore radio stations the past few days.
andrew is oni 12 yrs old and the DJs were commenting how fabulous he is as there is a segment in the song in which the lyrics are sang backwards. When they made their debut sometime back last month in taiwan, i remembered that jeff actually criticise a lot of singers eg. Wilber Pan, ENERGY, 5566 etc. But actually hor, i oso dun find machi's song to be nice leh. like there are too many sound effects made to alter andrew's voice in some parts.

Why the name "Machi" though? I hope it's not a Japanese word that they're using. It means "Street" in Japanese. If they are using a Japanese word, I'm going to hate them! Another Taiwanese group in love with Japan. When will it end? How long will this love for any country but themselves last?

It's not only the Taiwanese, it's happening all over the world. Even Japan. If you've noticed, they happen to like inserting random english verses into their songs, in a placement that doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I do not oppose the use of Japanese words in Taiwanese songs or group names. They have far worse choices in group names, like F4 and 5566.
But the Taiwanese are one of the most rampant culprits of trying to assimilate the culture of other "hipper" countries in the world today. Have you noticed how they even try to make Japanese hosts for Taiwanese programs? That's plain bad taste, how can you expect someone who cannot string together a proper sentence in Chinese to make themselves understandable for an entire program.
I like learning different languages and knowing more about cultures all over the world. But most of all, I'm proud to be a Chinese. I'm horribly disappointed by those ppl who think they can appear more happening with their dressing or speaking with a annoying accent. Where's their sense of indivualism? Aren't they proud of their own heritage?

i'm not very sure, but i tink machi means "brothers" (good friends) in dunno wat language, or mabbe its a word specially created for it? coz in one of their songs, they sang the word "machi" and the chinese translation at the bottom of the page said "brothers” as in 兄弟

actually, "machi" is referring to the "machi" in japanese ice cream machi or traditional chinese/japanese rice snack "machi". "machi" is a japanese snack made from sticky rice, you make the rice kinda like into a dough, then beat it in a bowl until its sticky. then you take the sticky rice dough and put sweet red bean paste or fine peanut powder on it.

actually, machi's front man, jeff, used to part of LA Boyz, which i think it was the first taiwan hip hop group, its career lasted like few years back in the early 90's? remember hip hop now days is different then hip hop back the days.

LA Boyz used to be jeff, steve and stanley. stanley later started his solo project, an album was released last year. Machi still got jeff and steve, and other new members, such as kenny, andrew? and some one else.

jeez...no wonder he looked familiar..albeit uglier!!hehe..

as for the sound effect thing.. in the machi didi song..there's one part where he sang wen bie and it goes like "wo he ni wen bie.bie bie bie..(robotic sounding thingy).." supposedly that was no sound effect but 100% andrew....

Hey to all:

Hv seen them recently on the taiwanese variety shows. Seem to be a regular on those shows. Ya.. the forntman is the guy fm LA BOYS. They one tt speaks the taiwanese language on tv most of the time. Hv not heard any of their songs actually coz i m not really into bands/groups but tink they are really a humorous bunch. They alwaes seem so spontaneous on the variety programs.

i saw the mtv couple day ago, "machi" is "mochi" and its the chinese word for "sticky rice cake thingy"

so machi is the CHINESE word for the sticky rice?

or are you saying mochi is the chinese word because that would be very very wrong.

I think machi has two meanings..one for mua chi (sticky rice) and the other means..match? matching? which means compatible..(any taiwanese here?) but since it's titled in english u wldnt know the chinese word to it so i think it's the latter.

and they are quite exposed as in playing their MVs.. going for promotions and they basically rap in taiwanese with vurgal words (hokkien) so I can't understand so well unless it's subtitled.. >_<

tink they're taiwan's 1st "taiyu" (taiwan language similar to hokkien) hip-hop group. and its kinda weird coz they are all ABCs....so when u hear them rapping u'd expect it to be in english, but its in taiyu...

yeah, u'll hear bleeps in the mv/music, coz some words are censored...hehe.

Machi was in Dong Feng last nite (rerun this morning). I don't understand a single word, but they seemed to be a fun bunch.

The 'almost' bald guy (not the leader) seemed to be a fans of Momoco so he flirted with her, really funny. Momoco asked them to "rap" some difficult lyrics and Machi also showed some funny dance moves. Andrew is cute !. Other than Wesley Chu, I never see young chinese artist before.

I think they're still in Pepsi top 20 Chart (MTV Chinese). Mmmh, will take a good look at it this weekend !.

Andrew the little one is sooo adorable!! wish i had a kid bro like that.. and 2 of them (not the big korean dude, or that ex-LA boyz) looked pretty cute... anyawys its hilarious how the korean guy was totally flirting with Mathilda Tao, he kept telling her how beautiful she is and how he fell in love with her when he first saw her on tv and stuff.. haha.. he even serenaded her with flowers and champagne!! they seem really fun, i like them =)

Machi does not mean sticky rice.

Machi means Street in Japanese.
Machi also means City.

Mochi is sticky rice in Japanese.

Mou Ji is sticky rice in Mandarin.

Satanrina, I totally agree too. Every single culture in the world copies, but only do the Taiwanese do so SOOOOO shamelessly. I can't believe they rip off complete Japanese SHOWS!! i think they are taiwanese.. they claim that they are real hip-hop artistes unlike will pan and energy and claim to be the most diao taiwan hip-hop artistes around.. i personally do not like their attitude and i think that they copy a lot of the western hip hop style without they own distinctive flavour.. the only thing that's different from the western artistes is that they rap in chinese and taiwanese

haa, poor machi, people, people just making money mah, so, love it or leave it lor. I quite like the little kid, got telent to Rap, the dj scatch effects sung by him is totally effects free, he used his own voice... i mean, he is good in certain way, and other song not so nice, just the jump 2003 is better. if i am not wrong, in singapore Machi is been distributed by Warner Music. saw the ad on TV. Heard Jeff on YES933 yesterday and he said that if nothing goes wrong, Machi will be coming to Sngapore in June to promote their album. actually i dun think it will receive much response here coz the album is in Taiwanese and oni 1 chinese song which i would not agrree that it is good.

Yeah i watched the episode of Happy Sunday too!! we all know xiaozhu can dance, but did u guys see ah liang??? i was so impressed!! i mean, he's GOOD for a guy his age!! i was telling my dad, look at that old guy, try dancing like that, and my dad did pathetically btw...
Anyways, machi is coming to Singapore next month to promote their album! Andrew's gonna be here too cos its summer break for him.. i'll think they'll prolly be at Heeren since they're not that well-known here yet.

Though Machi is pretty cool. Has seen alot of them recently as they seem to be appearing on the variety programs all the time.

Not too sure of his name but the front man (ex LA Boys) guy is pretty cool. But a little turn off when he answers his questions is Taiwanese.

Their songs are pretty catchy as well. Saw a recent episode of Kuai Le Xing Qi Tian and Jiao Jaio, Ah Liang and Xiao Zhu were imitating to rap like them. That was pretty hilarious.

That's the episode that we were talking about earlier. A liang was truly impressive. I got the video of that from Jam and in the Jump 2003 song, I thought that parts of their dance was pretty impressive. I wonder if that little kid dances? He's cute, but he's no way as adorable as the little kid from Jay's "Square of Prague" song.

actually i heard somewhere that machi in their words means brothers. well so far they are doing great whether you like them or not, they are definitely in your face. they even have a colaboration with missy elliot and guess what a local radio station in malaysia - HitzFm is also playing the Jump 2003 version with missy elliot. they will be coming to malaysia soon, can't remember when exactly. however one thing i don't get it - one of the ex-member of LA Boyz steve is supposedly in Machi too rite? but how come i don't see him on entertainment news with the other Machi fellas? and during the G-Club party on TVBS when Machi performed, he wasn't there but instead the Korean guy was there? but all the pictures that you see of Machi has him in it but without the Korean guy. weirdd...

That's impressive, since most western artists don't care about Taiwan and some can't even point it out on a map. nope not stanley, i think his name is steven. there are 3 guys in LA BOYZ - jeff, stanley and steven (i think) rite? dunno but so far a lot of their publicity pictures that i have seen always got steven but no korean guy. yupyup they are coming to malaysia and also singapore soon - can't remember when but malaysia is this dance club in KL call warp so ppl who are interested can go....

i'm confused.. who's in Machi?!why isit Huang Li Cheng & Machi?? Jeff Huang is not in Machi?? i know steve is jeff and stanley's cousin.. i saw him in the MV but he wasn't in e-news when they were guests. yes i saw the korean guy, nicholas hwang is that his name?

eh why do they always have to go to warp?? jay went there last time for his mini concert. >__< i don't like that place..

Jeff is in machi, but since he's the leader, so they put it as Jeff and Machi...and i tink the "official" members of Machi are Kenny, Xiao Pang, Machi didi, Jeff and the other guy which i dunno the name of. Stanley and Steve etc juz chip in when they are free/nothin to do/needed.

well.......so seems like so much has been said about this new group machi......but, actually lets put aside all the past of the members of this group......and all their other features.......what do u guys think about their songs ,music?? does anyone think that their songs are really great and has sort of a revolutionary feature becoz most of the rap is in 'tai yu' or hokkien??? and......also i've seen from tv that their influence in taiwan is pretty great.......coz its like, their so new.....and so soon they can hav their own concert......and the audience seems to have great response........so do u all think in any way....would MACHI surpasses JAY??? i know that they arent the same and not much comparison can be made.....but their genre in music still resembles so......maybe we can compare a little in that aspect???? no offence ......but to me.......i still dont really hav great interests for their songs.......but the little boy 'andrew' is kinda cute i have to say......ok, just hope to know what u all really think about them.

I kinda agree~ I was about to buy that until i scroll through their song list and got turned off~ There's only 7 original songs minus the intro, the remixes and the karaoke version~ :? But of course, it doesn't mean all the songs are bad~ :laughing: Just that there's too little originals~

And isn't Steven supposed to be in Machi? I have a look at the cd cover and he is in it.... :?

yeah i agree completely with catseyes and chun li......too many remixes only indicates that the song has lost its authenticity, and then if thats the case.....the album would not worth buying lo, well .....of course it depends on individuals still, some pple love remixes. besides, i think that their album is a little lack of variety.......

Hei Machi still great. I love all the Rap song. They kinda good at singing. Especially that Machi Didi Andrew Chou. Hao Ke ai.So cute a little boy like him can do the rapping. And now he make his own album with Machi Didi on the title. But all the Machi ge ge is helping him. Like on the song Tian Mi Mi. Nicky is helping him. Nicky is the one who sing with A mei. Are they all related to one family. I don't know cousin or xiongdi.

well, i think that machi didi's voice's gonna break sooner or later. and he'll sound..different. speaking of machi, (hope i'm not sidetracking), i had a dream that he was my penpal over at cali..weird..

their album is mainly hiphop stuff. if you're not into it, then i guess, it's not really worth buying much.

whoa guys, check it out. i met steve of machi/la boys whatever he's in...at room 18 in taiwan and he was a total @$$!! i didn't even really know who he was, some other dude introduced me to him and i was like talking to him in chinese then in english and he wouldn't even look at me!! he's really buff tho, not that i wouldn't still try to kick his butt...

yeah, i saw them on da ge da(ok..dunno how to spell it, but the english is Bir Brother Variety Show...i think) a few times..and theres like machi di di, the smallest, a korean guy, and like this really buff muscly guy...and this skinny guy with a goatee? and they can all break dance i think, and some of their songs are really good!i just can't stand machi di di, he really annoys me..

My friend introduced me to Machi and I can't help not to fall in love with Kenny and Edward's dance moves. :love: Imagine two tall, well-built guys breakdancing! Plus, I really think all of them are very down to earth.

They have a nice selection of hiphop clothes, machi style. :wink2: Hopefully it will be available internationally, soon.

i think machi is a slang word for frend or hommies in taiwan ....

yes, Machi the 2nd album will come out in July. They have already done the MV shoot. More dancing to watch out for. I think they have the same choreographer as mariah carey's.

Edward also has a regular radio show every saturday night. you guys can catch it up on the net. :)

Machi Didi has grown taller than before too. He's even taller than Da ge Jeff now. :laughing: But he'll be studying in the US along with his brother Kenny Chou.

I think machi is like a really good rapper like on Machi Di Di and Pi Li Pa La. He like totally raps real good. I actually knew him from my brother and hid friend so yea then I downloaded his songs. I like Machi's MV's coz they're like really different in some ways.

The super remix in the 3rd album is done by ex LMF member DJ Tommy who is a good friend of Suffa. I find the remix very very well done and it's fanastics - I enjoyed every bit of the song, besides the other songs in the album.

Melody is not new - she was in Machi's 2nd album in of the songs (sorry have to check which song) and Melody officially became part of Machi in the 3rd album, you can see her in Mei Ban Fa MTV.

Yes, you're right 2 members of the old Machi left - Steven is a doctor in training in the US and Kenny is studying to be a doctor.

Machi only became so big during the 3rd album by including Mel, abe, Luke, Don P and Sufffa. The old gang are Jeff (Big Bro), Nicky, Edward and Andrew (Machi DiDi)
