i`m just curious here .. but i know probably lotsa azns like that Korean movie "My Sassy Girl" right? ^^; who here has watched it?? and if you did did u like/dislike it? i have never heard ne1 that didnt like the movie tho :D bcuz it's got a really cute storyline n everything goes together! what are your favorite parts?? i looove the part where she made him switch shoes with her while they were walking thru the park hahaha :excited: that wus sooo funnie n also where their playing that slapping game in the subway haha i felt bad for him :oops: i so0o wanna get the DVD from yesasia but like they have some weird DVD codes that say some of the DVDs can only play on like Asian DVD players or something .. or can only play in HK :rasp: i made an LJ icon for my journal! if anybody likes it they can take it :wink2:

I saw My Sassy Girl a couple months ago. Personally I think it's over rated. The storyline was pretty cute and the characters were fun but I thought that a lot of it was kind of random. Like the ending. You know with the old man under the tree? That was random upon random.

Otherwise it was an enjoyable 2 hours I spent. I thought the last scene was cute as hell. haha

Well I think the whole plot of the movie breaks down to SHY GUY MEETS PUSHY GIRL. THROW THEM IN RANDOM SILLY KOREA BASED ANTICS WHICH CAUSE THEM TO FALL IN LOVE. PROBLEMS ARISE. SOLVE WITH MORE ANTICS. THE END :roll credits:

Even the climax of the movie was random (you'd think they'd try to make sense of it), with the whole amusement part episode. While watching it, you're just thinking HUH

I just finished watching this movie last night.. and I thought it was quite a funny and interesting movie but like some of you said, I thought it was overrated too. I mean it's good but I don't think it's REALLY GOOD. There were a few funny moments as well as a few sweet moments.. I thought of the best moments was towards the end... :happy:

I watched this movie a long time ago...It's a pretty good movie...

The reason? Everything in the movie fits together. The plot is tied together from start to beginning. I won't say how, because it would spoil it for some people, but people who've watched it know what I mean. The two main characters really go together well...

This movie is loved by so many because it was like one of the first of its kind from Korea, and has several cheap laughs and romantic twists. Throw in a good tune that gets stuck in your head, and bam, it's a hit. I remember there was a huge obsession over here; the songs are heard as ringtones quite often (2 of my friends have Pachelbel - Canon as ringtone >.<).

Sure, to some it wasn't THAT great because they've probably seen better...But to others it might be the best they've seen.

That was an UFO? I'd always thought it was a bird... :D I thought this movie was superbly done, the plot fit together very well. Lots of symbolism with regards to time. Though I never did get how that toad got into the egg. :?

I thought the movie was really good. There's alot of stuff that seems very random but if you pay close attention to it then it all fits together, and some are little add ons for viewers that paid attention, and there's also alot of symbolism. Like in the movie, the girl said that the guy of his dreams will be from the future, or a UFO. So when she walks down hill after talking with that old man, a UFO flew past the top of the screen, which symbolises that she has met the guy of his dreams. Also the first time the guy brought the girl to the hotel, they showed a little newspaper clipping on the wall, with 5 kids who are suppose to be twins. If you count the number of old men who looks like the hotel owner through out the movie, you'll find 5 of them(which is the 5 people in the newspaper clipping). There's alot of other small things people don't pay attention to.
Personally, I really enjoyed the movie bcause it's really sweet. The part where the guy walks into the concert hall and gives her a rose was really sweet. I mean it DOES take alot of courage to go in an all girls school and present a rose to a girl in front of hundreds of people. And the humour's a good touch to the movie.
That's why I enjoyed the movie alot atleast. As for the frog, all I can say is... ALIENS :bleh:

Everything fit together, you just gotta pay attention. Had a few laughs and romance.

My fav scenes: slapping game on the subway, apolagizing on the mountain, and when they finally meet up again.

oh yea .. there were lotsa random/small things u didnt really catch the first time watching it. i watched it the 2nd time and i noticed the smaller things .. like when you heard a little line on the news about 'a runaway soldier' . i didnt get that part where they jus suddenly met a random soldier until i saw it the 2nd time & lots more! and the songs stick to you .. like that "i believe .." song [denno the name] and i have pachelbel cannon on my ringtone :D

I think my fave part from the movie is when the she slips him in the subway because he lost the bet.. and everyone started staring at them.. And the part when he was reading the letter that she wrote him.. soo sweet and sad at the same time. Yeah, it's Shin Seung Hoon. :) By the way, I think that My Sassy Girl is overrated. If you want to see another great romantic somewhat comedy, I highly recommend: The Classic.

It's the best Korean film out right now. Go buy it!

Yup Barry Yip sings the Canto version of "I Believe" but I am not sure about the Mandarin version. He also have a version of it with Rain Lee. And I think there's this other version of I Believe with all 3 language but I am not sure who sings it.

The Mandarin version was sung by Van (Fan Yi Chen). There was a downloads link in the request section for all versions of "I Believe", but I can't find it anymore. And as for what Rich suggests, The Classic is definitely a movie that deserves to be watched. For those that liked My Sassy Girl, I'm sure you'll like The Classic as well.

Il mare is pretty good, but I don't think it's as good as Sassy Girl. And the ending is sorta weird. But it's worth a watch. As for the story, it's not about teacher or teaching :D It's more like time distorting and weird stuff...and romance :rolleyes:
Anyways give it a crack, it is with the girl in Sassy Girl. I'm gonna try to get The Classic.

The Classic was a really sad/sappy movie. Not a comedy like My sassy girl. It was ok, but I don't usually enjoy those kinds of movies that much. =/

'Sex is zero' is another comedy which people have compared to american pie. Just that the sex scenes are a lot more explicit ( you will feel like your watching a porn at some points) and its has the typical korean dramatic twist. =P

Windstruck, anyone heard of it? It's loosely a my sassy girl prequel, and a FREAKING TERRIBLE one. same director too, how could he do this to us?! The plot twists are totally random, it's a mess of a movie that drags on way too long. the reason this is a prequel is apparent in the ending, and ONLY the ending, the rest of the movie has nothing to do with My Sassy Girl. Well, JJH is still sassy but toned down a bit.

Anyone heard of My Wife is a Gangster? That's a funny movie with... pretty explicit sex scenes. The ending was sorta messed up but overall the movie is pretty good, give that a shot too if you like Sassy Girl. There's also My Wife is a Gangster 2 but that's not nearly as good, probably not worth the watch for most of you.

i saw the movie 5 tyms this week! i can't get over it! i just love the movie. Jeon ji Hyun is a amazing actor and cha tae hyun was very funny! Here that lots of people think this moive is overated. i personally think u can argue both wais. I wouldn't sai best romance/comedy ever but its pretty close. After i saw the movie, i herd that it was based on series of true stories. Although it sais this, i think half of it's made up for instance getting gyun woo to climb all the wai to the other mountain a the end so that she(jeon ji hyun) could se if gyun woo could here her talk fro the other side.
Reasons why i loved this movie is because of how gyun woo gets pushed around alot by this girl thats triing to shape him into her old boyfriend that died.
i'd sai my favourite scene is wen they plai squash and also wen they changed shoes

There have been an interest recently about Korean movies in my class. Everybody loved my sassy girl. There were some classmates of mine who cried at the ending... I like windstruck too. It's very emotional and touching... I prefer windstruck. Its story as a whole...

ahh cameron diaz? that totallys sux.. hate her acting.. shes only good for the ditzy girl role lol... i think that there isn't really an actress that can replace jeon ji hyun... she was perfect in the role!! also for the male lead too (cha tae hyon?), it was hilarous everytime he saw someone throw up, he was abt to throw up as well ^^ i think this may be why there aren't that many popular asian stars in the US... coz the US keeps remaking all the good asian movies and replacing them with crappy remakes (the ring and the grudge are *perfect* examples).. i'd hate to see how they remake this awesome film.. esp coz you just *know* that the US is gonna butcher it and then ppl in the US who haven't seen the korean verision will be like 'this was one of the greatest romantic-comedies in s.korea? it sucks'

anyway i just happened to rewatch it last nite.. i love the ending, it was somewhat satisfying to have it click in my head that ******SPOILER******the aunt's son (who died) was jeon ji hyun's former boyfriend... ************END SPOLIER********** and one of my fave scenes is in the nightclub, when they just stick their id's infront of the guards with this very 'cool' look lol.. and they also looked really cute in the highschool uniforms
and i love the guy cha tae something... he's so good in the film, except for his kinda big lips, but i guess that's part of his charm ^_^ i checked his other films.. not as good... i did the same with jeon ji hyon, some of her other films were good, some decent, and some (**cough cough the uninvited cough) were horrible..

abt windstruck.. its a sequel? or prequel? coz i read the summary but it didn't seem to really connect, maybe i was missing some points... is the guy her former bf or something? the one who died?

But I agree with u. It seems like in my sassy girl she is a student and not a policewoman. Apart from that fact that jjh occuptation is weird, i think the other pieces fall quite into place.

just because Jeon Ji Hyun starred in both Windstruck and MSG doesnt mean they are connected. you might as well say Il Mare is connected as well.

you dont see any of the same characters/actors in these movies except JJH and Chae Tae Hyun for like 5 seconds at the end of Windstruck, and the plots are really different. a lot of people may have gotten confused about it, but seriously~it was just a little joke to make it seem connected. they are seperate movies. not prequels or sequels.
i dunno what you've read, but just use your common sense o_O if you think about it [when you've seen them both] putting them together wouldnt work out.

Well both movies r made by the same director. Who knows wat he is trying to do with the plot. Anyway originally my sassy girl was a internet story. The plot was great, and it's just so cute how she was the girl that his aunt was going to introduce to him...and it's just such an amazing movie...I think it'll probably be one of my all time favourites. :-)

My favourite scene was when he was telling her blind date (when she was in the washroom) the 10 things to remember when dating her...I was so touched :cry:

I LOVE My Sassy Girl!! What a good movie! Though some people have said that it was overrated, I thought that it was actually really nicely done. It was really cute, but not done in a corny way. Just very, very sweet. It makes you laugh out loud half the time, and the other half you feel as if youre left with a bittersweet feeling. Oh, but yes, what a fabulous movie. it was the director's intention of an interesting.. 'extra' to the show.
if you look very carefully at the scene whereby the female lead returns to the tree years later
there IS a UFO (fake of course) in the background. very small. it even comes with a little sound effect.
the old man she meets is actually the male lead, from the future. that's why he knows alot. and why the capsule has been opened (the frog).
notice how the female lead talks quite a number of times about space/time, and how she concluded right at the ending 'i think i've met someone from the future.'
my friend (a huge MSG fan) told me that the director revealed this himself. when i watched it again, it does makes sense.

and no windstruck is in no way a prequel. the two are not linked. the plot isnt even consistent.

And technically it wouldnt make sense if the old man was cha tae hyun, maybe the actor was, but as far as the story, how could he have (1) aged so much more than her and not say anything to her (2) how could he then become young again

heyyyyyyy that's sooo interesting! serious! i've watched it thousands of times and i never thought to interpret it that way. cos movies usually have hidden meanings inside, but i just cant place a finger on MSG. but after what fujiwaratofushop said, i seem to view it in a different perspective. im still stunned.

ooh, and talking abt romance movies, i think of a walk to remember and love me if you dare. i simply adore those two movies! just that they arent asian. but my sassy girl is really really really good. i wont think it's over rated cos it's really worth the compliments it received. it's quite typical, but there's just a different feel to it compared to other romance flicks, cos the other actors tend to try too hard to make it sweet. for MSG, it just seems to come on naturally and beautifully. and that's what did it for me, aside from what the Jeon said abt meeting someone frm the future, which is actually something i have always fantasized abt.

like a lot of people have said, my sassy girl was praised so much as a lot of people's favourite movie, but when i watched it after the guy was cool (first korean movie i ever watched), i was kind of disappointed because i thought it would be SO MUCH better.

but this story...my favourite part was when they walked into the club wearing their uniforms and flashed the idea and i LOVE the expression on their faces.

i decided to watch this movie cuz so many ppl said it was good. so i borrowed and watched it recently. i was beginning to think it's another dodgy tb film but the ending really surprised me. so even though most of the movie was average, the ending was great. got some good comedy too. like the part where the guy aniticipates his mum hitting him with whatever she has in her hand at the time - a knife. HAHA. i think they should have explored more why their relationship was going to fall apart. because all we see is the good side of it. i was torn between wanting them to end up together and not ending up together. it would have been brave to let them just go their separate ways but seems like they were meant to be. plus movies always seem to have happy endings where the couple end up together. more enjoyable this way, just not unique.

I never saw House of Flying Daggers, it looked too cliché, not to mention the billboards ripped off the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon design. The only reason why I would see it is b/c of Takeshi Kaneshiro, the man whose name you are trying to think of. He is an incredibly talented actor and director (in several languages!) I despise Zhang Ziyi especially what she's said about Taiwan and Hong Kong!! :-x I recently saw her on the cover of Time magazine from a couple months back, and they put a huge picture of her under the heading, "The New Face of China" meaning it's new industrialization vs. historical context. I saw My Sassy Girl about a month ago. I was excited to see it, b/c I've heard so many great comments about it so I went out and bought the VCD. I was disappointed. She was so mean to him, and like someone said earlier, so many random events!! It barely tied together! I liked the ending that was it. This was my first korean movie I watched last time. It was a year back. I watched this show without subtitles, until now I'm not very sure what's the story is about.
I like the girl! Jeon Ji-Hyun right? She's so cute. Suits her role his the show.

i'm a bit late on posting, but i've just watched 'my sassy girl,' a few days ago. although i cry in everything i watch, surprsingly, i didn't cry this time. the guy main character(forgot his name...something like gework-woo) was extremely funny. he's a great actor. omg, the very first part of the first part was cracking me up! XD and the girl was a great actress too, and very pretty ^_^ i liked the plot. it kind of went from present, past, present.

yup.. i agree this movie totally rocked!! my friend kept tryting to get me to watch it, but i just kept putting it off.. then one day i was totally bored so i popped in the cd but she only had the first half of the movie!! had to wait such a long time before i got to finsih the rest of the movie.. im really glad that i did tho cause it was such a romantic ending.. i never would have thought the ending was gonna be so good, but i guess that's part of what makes the movie so appealing.. o man!! all this talk about the movie makes me wanna watch it again..

Hahahas but there's one part there I don't know why, but I'll always cry no matter how many times I've watched this show. It's the scene where Jeon Ji Hyun was on this date, matchmaking, I think. Then when she left to the washroom, & Gyeon-Woo arrived, he was telling her date about the ten things to remember. Though somehow I can never remember these ten things, the tears will just somehow start flowing out. Mannnnnnnn it's a crazily touching show.

oh, those ten things were so sweet =) i couldn't cry though >.< i don't know WHY, lol but the ending was definitely unexpected, it was like..'wow. it really is fate.' haha

Yeah most movies nowadays may start off nicely, but then halfway they seem to rush things & it gets a little absurd. It's mostly the endings that get me O.O

i can't tell the difference from many male korean actors. they all look the same. O_O and the names are long, so it's hard to remember XD if they have a sequel for my sassy girl, i think it might be a disaster. there...just can't be anything for it to go on. for example. meteor garden was so good. then they make a stupid sequel, and it turned out to be a disaster. no real plot, nothing >.<

MAN that is so, so true. Meteor Garden II was waaaaaaay pathetic & I really couldn't stand that second lead actress, Michelle Saram. I actually get very ZZZZZ whenever I watch a show that she acts in :X MG II was totally cheesy. I mean, the starting started off nicely, but after the accident it totally went waaaaaay off & it didn't make any sense.

Yeah it's kinda sad sometimes when scriptwriters write a sequal to great shows & they turn out NOTHING like the first one.

OKAY back to My Sassy Girl. I really love Gyeon-Woo! He has that spastic face that says, "I AM LOVE SICK" XD

i've just watched it again :cry: there's so many great scenes in this movie!! some that you can cry because it's so funny and other when your heart just warms ups to her :happy: all in all a GREAT movie! it's been a while since i've seen a movie this good!

Yeah I've heard about these american remakes and I saw "The Lake House", which is a remake of the movie "Il Mare". It was a good movie, but it just didnt have the same kinda of feel that "Il Mare" had. And a remake of "My Sassy Girl"? WOW. I know for a fact that it will totally change the original meaning of "My Sassy Girl", first of all, because of the two totally different cultures. The story was made to fit the average Korean's life, and it definitely won't clash well with the everyday American person. I mean, if an American saw a girl hitting her boyfriend, they would think she's crazy! We will just have to wait and see...:dry:

On another note, I loved the movie "My Sassy Girl"! The story and the characters were super cute. And I love how it all ties up together in the very end. I recommend you guys to watch a movie called "Windstruck", also featuring Jeon Ji-Hyun. It's supposedly the prequel to "My Sassy Girl", but nobody knows. :bleh: Pesonally, I liked "Windstruck" way better, but I guess you have to see for yourself!:-)

I liked My Sassy Girl (many hmong people find Jeon very funny in it), but I rather take Windstruck over it (since i'm a criminal justice student, love police flicks). I don't know, I liked My Sassy Girl more than Windstruck. I can't explain why. I think its because I saw My Sassy Girl first, so it was more touching for me than Windstruck was. I think that with Windstruck, the whole thing with the pinwheels and stuff was just too unbelievable for me, so I didn't like it as much.

Edit: Umm nevermind. Looked back and saw who was playing her. I don't think she's suited at all for the role, she doesn't look the part, but I must admit, she is sassy, especially based on her role in girl next door.

i'm saying they should just show the original movie with subtitles in the theaters. that way they can avoid all possible situations of screwing up a now-classic (:
