Helping out siblings get into the business has been the trend with celebrities lately. Britney Spears's sister now works on Nickelodeon, Beyonce's younger sister Solange now has an album out, and Hilary Duff’s older sister is coming out with an album as well. Also Jessica's sister, Ashlee having her cd out and her own reality show.

so what do u guys think about this? cuz im kinda neutral on this, hehe, i mean, like if is a good thing for their siblings to help them out to become famous instead makin it on their own without just being someone's sister/brother.
and could u guys think of other celebrities and their siblings?

Eh, I think they'll all still live under the shadow of their siblings, unless there's something special about them.. but none of them are exceptionally talented or anything. I read that Ashlee's debut album is selling pretty well, I bet no one would have given her the time of the day in the first place, if she wasn't 'Jessica Simpson's little sister'.

I listened to Ashlee's CD... eeyuck, I hated it. She sounded bordering an Avril Lavigne wannabe and those mix CD's for like teen movie soundtracks. Anyways, helping out family members is a very common thing. It just doesn't have to be siblings, look at Tom Hanks and his son, or the Douglas family. Breaking into the entertainment industry is hard, so hey, if you have connections, the better and smoother the ride will be. :)

But sadly, usually the siblings that depended on the fame of the other sibling doesn't get so famous/popular and usually is known as, "oh yeah... blah blah's sister/brother?" in most case (though there are some exceptions)

yeah ashlee is a LOT better than jessica in more ways than one. jessica let her record company (or WHOEVER) mold her into a bubblegum pop britney-wannabe. jessica doesn't write songs. ashlee writes lyrics and refuses to be like her sister, or anyone else in the music industry. gooo ashlee xP

actually, although these new people have famous siblings, it doesn't mean that they didn't need to audition or send in DEMOS and get signed for record deals. they still had have talent to back themselves up.

that is true, but don't you think that it would be much easier to actually be heard and seen by big shots managers and record producers if you had a family member who knew the right people and could pull strings compare to an avergae joe trying to make it big though? And I think regardless of what and how far your career takes you, your career will always have a link to "oh yeah, blah blah's little blah blah right?" (ex. Janet Jackson and Michael, Lisa Marie Presley to Elvis Presley etc.)

i mean i think it's only natural that a celebrity would help their siblings right? if you were rich wouldnt you lend ur bro or sis some money for a new show or etc? then for singers.. if tha older sibling proves that they are able to sing. it might be in tha family. so wont tha younger sibling try and sing.

i don't have a problem with famous celebrities helping their siblings get into the business. i would just think that there would be a lot of pressure on them to do well. for example, beyonce is one amazing artist... she can sing, compose and dance. the public and music critics will be sure to hold her younger sister to the same standards and possibly expect even more from her.

in any case, helping them get their foot in the door is one thing.... how they keep it in is another....... :wink2:

YUP X_tina was rite. n like others said b4. maybe it would be easier if we have a relation with someone famous... but u still have to have a big talent to sell to public. not only by 'im jessica's sis' or watever...

Yupyup i agree that there are dis/and advantages to having a famous sibling get you into the entertainment industry. True, it will be easier for you to make it on the first level but to prove yourself to be an individual is another step.
I only found out recently that Ashlee Simpson was Jessica's sister! haha, I didn't know Ashlee's last name but i had seen her in Seventh Heaven, The Hot Chick ((small role)) and then I found out they were sisters! heheh. I think Ashlee seems quite different from Jessica, and I've only heard her song Pieces of Me but I quite enjoy her singing style// voice.
Oh yeah and isnt Saya A-mei's sister?? And as x_tina mentioned, i think kelly chen does have a brother that sings, Victor Chen i think?? I dont know much about him but i saw a pic once and i thot he was pretty cute haha :D

I think it will take some time for these celebrities silbings to break away from their sibling's shadow. The media and the society will tend to compare these celebrities and if you are the 'weaker' actor/singer. I think you will tend lose out quite a lot.

Time can help you break away from being in your sibling's shadows but you know what also? More than half the times, these "potential starts" suck.... big time. Unlike others, like Janet who initially had her start with Michael's fame but made it on her own, they have a bit of talent to pull through and not get that much criticism, but would producers give a fig for them if they weren't connected? Ex. Aaron Carter, Jamie Lyn <---- do you see great talent in them aside from the looks? :rolleyes:

its not just using her sibling's fame how about using your parent's fame...
the osbournes for example...i means seriously who would've signed kelly osbourne for her voice alone, if you know who micheal hutchence is 3/4 of his daughters are doing shows/writing columns for magazines, the only reason the fourth one isn't in the media is coz shes like 8.

then again you have those like stella mcCartney who doesn't need her dad's fame as she is a legendary designer

Just because someone has a rich sibling/ relative doesn't make them worse okay?
Like someone said earlier, helping out is one thing. Whether you stay there is another thing. What's wrong with being given a helping hand? As long as you have the right attitude, and don't have the superior aurora about yourself, people will notice that.

And personally, I think a person whose 'made it' on their own with a crap attitude to reporters etc. is far worse than some person who has a famous sibling, but is very humble and hardworking. Wouldn't you agree?

i dont mind celebrities that are brought to fame with connections as long as they have the talent. but as in most cases, the gonnabe celeb has no talent whatsoever and the only reason they are famous is due to connections, and that pisses me off. the talented average-joe-looking person with an average-joe-background will get overlooked because some talentless person has connections.

about ashlee and jessica, i can't believe why so many people like ashlee. her voice is so ugly and i dont think she's pretty at all. jessica on the other hand has an amazing voice and she is really pretty! she might appear to be bimbo in newlyweds, but i seriously doubt she is that stupid in real life. well im a fan of neither, but this is just what i think. Well, from my point of view, it isn't all easy being famous and having an older sibling which is already famous before you. Even though, people might give in to you because of that reason for recordings or whatever, the expectations of you will be high right?? like people will expect you to perform like your older sibling and there will always be comparisons between you and your sibling. Who knows, if the bond isn't strong enough, if there are rumours and stuff about you and ur sibling, you might lose your relationship with them or something haha. Shrugs

I agree with junnleenfaah on pg 2. Ashlee was trying so hard to differentiate herself from her sister in the beginning that she wanted nothing in the "bubblegum pop" zone. She went out of her way to dye her hair black, sing "rock" songs (puh-lease), lets not forget her "punk" shirt. She was trying so hard to break away from Jessica's shadow by being everything opposite of what she stands for. Why do you have to do that? It's common for a person to have one style but is able to like other stuff. She was being such an extremist. But now I'm glad she looks a bit more "girlish" cuz well, what she's showing now is more her style and its really time for her to show the world what shes really like. As for singing-- thats not working for me.

but about siblings....as long as you got the talent and is not using your siblings to gain fame.

Admit it, if one of your family members was a global famous star, you'd get influence to jump on the celebrity bandwagon as well.
