How Fast Do You Type (WPM)?

OK, so it's not really a game and we can't really have a huge discussion over our results so I just put it in here. :)

Anyways, I got as high as 107wpm w/ 98% accuracy. I guess since I've been typing a lot since Grade 4, it really helped how fast I typed today.. I'm going to apply for a job (telemarketer research, the annoying a-holes that call you and ask if you want to do a survey) and typing fast is a requirement so I just wanted to test how fast I am now after several years of not testing.

My typing speed went down a bit.. It used to be 120wpm.

Well I did the 1 minute test and got 99wpm no errors. The 1 minute thing is rather inaccurate as I could never keep up that pace :tongue: I type about 85wpm at a constant rate from all those damn 5 minute typing test I took in school.

wow... you guys are fast... i can only manage a 53WPM... and only 89% accuracy.. but the acuracy isn't really accurate coz my 'v' on my laptop isn't working very well so i missed words with the letter v. :bleh:

Pretty good results guys.. most jobs that require typing only need you to type like 20-30wpm max.. besides you think a lot too :)

Phew.. I chose the 3 minutes for time.. and the Fishing in Finland psg.. I think i hv to pull up my socks for the typing skills..

My results are neither good nor dat atrocious.. Mine is 93 % accurate, and 42 WPM gross speed..?!

Then next, i take up the challenge again, I chose the Huckleberry Finn, for 3 mins..
And, I resulted in 50 wmp Gross Speed.. but 88% accurate.. I really got lots of errors.. :shifty:

ahhh, ok at school I was getting in the 100s but then on this I am getting in the 50s :dry: weird thing is I stopped for like 10 sec and MY SPEED WENT UP!!! I don't think this thing is very accurate with counting :whistle:

It has also has its cons. Typing on MSN has really screwed with the way I type MSN and stuff. Forgetting to put apostrophes and such really screwed me over during that typing test when it asked you to type "ain't" and I kept missing that damn apostrophe!

Meemaw: Don't know why you would consider that slow! It's quite fast compared to the average PC user. Usually people are lucky to hit 20wpm! :) As long as you don't use the two index finger method to type, it's all good :)

lol, my typing speed really varies. like i can't even IMAGINE how some of you can reach speeds of over 120 wpm =P, me on a sugar-high day with extremely high caffeine levels only reached 111 wpm. although i had 98% accuracy :tongue: .

then i retried the 1 min typing test today (in the morning) and made all sorts of grossly executed mistakes and errors AHAHAHA. if i had finished the test, my accuracy would've been in the negatives XP. and speed went down to 80 or so wpm. it really depends if i'm in a good mood or not, i suppose o.o.

and those of you with lower wpm, pugwash is right :D. as long as you type in the correct hand positions and whatnot, typing fast is much easier. unless you have some supar dupar index finger o.O that can type at 120 wpm o.o. amazing.

yes yes, i have to thank my 4th grade "typing time" (like some of you) for where i'm standing today, at wapid 111 wpm. on crack, of course. (lol, i feel like i'm giving an acceptance speech for a huge award).

i'm only 12 so only been typing for a couple of years..

took it again half a year ago went down to like only 40 wpm and like 70% accuracy.

"Only" 107 wpm :bleh: I can hit maybe 50 WPM, but pretty low accuracy. Been typing for quite a while too, but switching between this natural keyboard, and the standard ones at school throws me off a lot.

90 WPM is fast enough, average population does 50-70 WPM with average 85% accuracy. You're above the average. However, 80% accuracy would disqualify your claim at 90 WPM. You can type however many WPM, but must have at least 90% accuracy to claim it.

It's difficult to get over 100 WPM. It basically gets to the point when words don't get spelled out from the fingers when typing. It's a mind-set that governs speeds near 100 WPM's. I can type the word by thinking it, not spelling it out with my fingers and the keys. The moment I think the word, it's combo'ed on the screen instantly, not typed. Then above the 100 WMP's, I'd need to forecast 2-3 words ahead of my currently typed words. Speed typing can be trained, like playing piano, but maximum limit is around 110 WPM per an average person. But beyond 120 WPM, to me, is up to a person's potential and talent. I am hardly capable to maintain good accuracy above 125 WPM's unless I'm fully concentrated like during a competition.
