Oh man I really wonder how all this stuff gets leaked out.. :?
I thought it was reported that Jay's writing even more lyrics this time.. how come only 2 songs.. well since this is unofficial.. we'll just have to wait and see...

If this is really the tracklist, guess this album is more to a war-like album. With the song titles like "My Territory", " General" and "Dying Young stops war", they are all related to war. Wella, guess we have to wait and see though.

thankx jakinni. u've dun a great job feedin us all this information on his new album!
yeh i agree with most of u that his titles sound lyk war themes. funny how they sound lyk war and the theme of the album is "poetic". there are was poetry though so yeh. wot concerns me the most is that according to the titles, there's not going to be a slow or slow rnb-ish song there except the last one " At the seashore" and track 8 "lightly floating slow"
2 mite be enuf but i still think 3 would be betta

thanks for the news, jakinni. :D it's interesting how all this info gets leaked out though. :? anyway, based on this tentative list, the song titles are very interesting this time around. seems quite random for some of them. and i see that vivian has penned the lyrics for one of the songs. =) looks like there'll be some light-hearted and fast songs. :) and maybe the "lightly fluttering snow" song would be a ballad? heehee... can't wait to hear jay's new stuff. the countdown is on! :excited:

It's so funny how people keep asking jakinni where she gets her info from...WHEN SHE STATES IT IN HER FIRST POST!
Members here have very selective comprehension it seems..haha
wow viv wrote one of the song. It seems like in every one of jay's albums, there's one song written by her. I like her lyrics. She and Jay produce good songs!

Thanks for the list!
I'm kind of curious to see if this will be the list because I'm still kind of skeptical about it. I just want to listen to the ones that were written by Jay and Vincent! I'm expecting those to be a real big hit.
if this is indeed the tracklist for jay's upcoming album,
it seems it has a good mix of ballads (yay!) and fast songs...
some of the titles are really romantic.

EDIT: Another tracklist version being revealed one by one by people in charge at www.jaycn.com Of all the lists, I've never seen this version circulating anywhere else on the internet. So I am leaning towards believing jaycn.com on this one.
七里香 (Orange Jasmine)
止戰之殤 (Dying Young Stops War)
我的地盤 (My Territory)
將軍 (General)
園遊會(文山词) (Garden Tour Meet/Fete - Lyrics by Fang Wen Shan)
困獸之鬥 (Duel of Trapped/Caged Beasts)
外婆(杰倫词) (Grandma - Lyrics by Jay Chou)
Thanks for the update, jakinni!!
Going by the these titles, it seems like an "aggressive" album this time hehe. There are references to "war", "territory", "general" and "duel" after all. :D
Something tells me that 園遊會 is going to be a nice ballad. And it's nice to see that Jay is honouring his maternal grandmother (外婆) as well.

Yeah Jay's album has leaked out all over kazaa. It's as popular as someone like Beyonce or Britney Spears in the states. It's amazing! I download his songs because as much as I would like to support him, his albums are not accessible in Canada and my parents won't let me buy anything off the internet. They think Yesasia.com is suspicious, hahah.
You know what though? Even though his singles are all over the net, I can't download any of them. They keep disconnecting all the time. It's really frustrating.

Haha number 4 is gonna be a killer. Sounds like something tchaikovsky would come up with. Oh yea, I gotta hand it to those of you who have gave into temptation and have listened to the song previews for QLX, because I certainly can wait a week or so before getting my hands on a brand spanking copy, then I can drill it into my stereo so it plays over and over for months. It just doesn't feel right if I already know how the songs sound like before getting my hands on the CD.

04 乱舞春秋 (Luan Wu Chun Qiu/Chaotic Dance Spring Autumn)

09 止戰之殤 (Zhi Zhan Zhi Shang)
10 搁浅 (Ge Qian)
I just read on the Alfamusic website that the tracklist is different from what jakinni posted (in the very first post of this thread).
Taken from here (http://www.alfamusic.com.tw/Album/Albums.aspx?id=54)...
01 我的地盤 (Wo De Di Pan / My Territory)
02 七里香 (Qi Li Xiang / Orange Jasmine)
03 藉口 (Jie Kou / Excuse)
04 外婆 (Wai Po / Maternal Grandma)
05 將軍 (Jiang Jun / General)
06 擱淺 (Ge Qian / Stranding)
07 亂舞春秋 (Luan Wu Chun Qiu / Chaotic Dance Spring Autumn)
08 困獸之鬥 (Kun Shou Zhi Dou / Duel of Trapped Beasts)
09 園遊會 (Yuan You Hui / Garden Tour Fete)
10 止戰之殤 (Zhi Zhan Zhi Shang / The Youth That Ends War)
I tried to translate some of the titles the way I interpreted them, so they may not be entirely correct.

I just remembered that 將軍 (Jiang Jun) might even be a reference to a check-mate position in Chinese chess, hehe.
And since I've seen translations like Wounds of War for 止戰之殤 (Zhi Zhan Zhi Shang), the 殤 character does not represent "wounds". It does however refer to youths (19 years and below, if I remember correctly) who have been subject to the terrors of war.
* thanks catseyes for his help in helping me source out the "true" meaning of 殤 *
That's the main reason why I felt that track (and the fact that the 7-year-old girl plays the female lead in the corresponding MV) should be translated as The Youth That Ends War, with "youth" possibly being in either singular or plural form.
I'm still trying to figure out the meanings of the other track titles, but as you can tell, it boils down to a ton of guesswork since not all the lyrics are available yet.
jakinni
07-30-2004, 05:05 PM
Yup that "shang" character, I've seen it defined as "casualties of war" or "premature death". There was a bit of discussion about the translation of this title in the lyrics thread, and just ended up with "Wounds of War" despite it not being a literal translation of the Chinese title because it seemed to fit the lyrics?
07 亂舞春秋 (Luan Wu Chun Qiu / Chaotic Dance Spring Autumn)
I wonder if there's much meaning to this title or is it just so it sounds like title of the game it's a theme of. Hehe, it sounds like a historical epic or some kind of martial arts Chinese serial. :D

This is going to be one poetic interesting album...
Thanks for this information Jakinni!! :excited:
I can't WAIT for this album to come out, because I know it's going to sound soo awesome and cool. Not to mention... hot pictures of Jay.

Yup jakinni I read about the discussion in the lyrics and translation for 止戰之殤, but it still seems (to me) like a play between the similarly-sounding 傷 and 殤 (both being shang1).
From this part of the lyrics "她只唱 只想 / 這首止戰 之殤", it reminds me of this part from Dong Feng Po... "谁在用琵琶弹奏 / 一曲东风破". In both parts (of both songs, that is), it does make it appear that Vincent deliberately wrote the lyrics to make references to the actual track titles themselves, thereby (possibly) creating an endless cycle or loop.
春秋 seems to be be a reference to the period of The Warring States before China was unified. Maybe the feudal warlords doing some bizzare war-dances prior to huge assaults on the enemies?

I agree I think it is a play between the two "shang" words. Hehe, most people don't know the meaning of the more obscure version, I know I didn't. Had to use the dictionary. I think the real meaning of the title sounds good in Chinese, but just a little awkward when trying to convert it into English.
Woo, great for pointing out that similarity to Dong Feng Po! I really like the way he sings this "她只唱 只想 / 這首止戰 之殤".
I thought Spring and Autumn was specifically the period before The Warring States? :hmm: But you often hear people say the two together.
I'd love to see Jay doing some war-dances!! But it seems a little strange if the title 亂舞春秋 refers to that historical period because the game is called 乱舞三国 (dunno why it's not showing up in traditional font) in which case The Three Kingdoms takes place like a 1000 years later. Maybe 春秋 is just being used in the sense of the Spring and Autumn Annals, in which case it's like a reference to a record of historical events?
edit: Or maybe he just used it because it sounds nice while we're trying to find some deep meaning in it.

No, I believe it refers to the Warring States period itself.

That (about the game title showing in Simplified Chinese) could be an indication that the game publisher (松岗科技, a Taiwanese company) wants to tap into the mass potential of the mainland Chinese market.

You're probably right. I now think that 春秋 may be a reference to the Spring and Autumn Annals (almost read that as "anals" but that doesn't matter xD), which is one of the Chinese Wujing (five ancient Chinese classics associated with Confucius).
Haha seeing how the ancient Imperial Examinations were based on the Wujing, I'm starting to picture scenes where scholars keep rotating their heads as they memorise the classics. That might be how the 亂舞 was derived from.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Spring and Autumn Period (ch. 春秋時代 pinyin Chūnqiū Shídài) represented an era in history of China between 722 BC and 481 BC and was coined after the Annals of Spring and Autumn that chronicles it. Power became decentralized; rigorous annexations, battles and assimilations of states were typical of this period. Slow crumbling of nobility encouraged widespread literacy as a result, which blossomed into freedom of thought and technological advancement. It is followed by Warring States Period.
*the Warring States is from 475 BCE to 221 BCE

LOL Good explanation but I was referring to why when I type in the Chinese in traditional font, it's automatically converted to simplifiedin the reply box. I suppose it just has to do with the browser encoding system. Though referring to your explanation, I think this game was mainly developed in their Shanghai branch, from the news article.

Rotating heads, I'm picturing the scholars exchanging heads with each other! I can also imagine 亂舞 as represented by some kind of dance combined with large calligraphy writing. :D That'd be cool if we see Jay doing that. Also would be cool to see Jay dressed in ancient Chinese warrior outfit! :D
edit: I wish jaycn was accessible right now because I remember seeing someone transcribed partial lyrics for the songs from the preview.

Hehe guess both catseyes and I were wrong then. My bad. I consulted him before I made my earlier post, and he supported what I said.

I don't want to add in any spoilers for those of us who have not heard the brief version of 亂舞春秋 but it really does sound wacky. I can imagine Jay wearing a scholar gown, together with the accompanying headgear and swaying his head along with the wacky tune of the song!! :excited: Maybe he'll even continue the calligraphy from Dong Feng Po, where this time, instead of him teaching someone (the girl in the DFP MV), there'd be a fat ugly teacher trying to guide him to write out the proper characters.
Wooo I can't imagine what would happen if we were to become the MV directors. :bleh:

 I think we'd have very creative MVs on our hands. But why a fat ugly teacher though?
Other than this song title, I'm also curious about:
05 將軍 (Jiang Jun / General)
Like you said before it could be reference to chess match, but the tune of the music don't seem to fit that theme. And plus all the old folks he has in his MV. Sounds like a wacky song again.
08 困獸之鬥 (Kun Shou Zhi Dou / Duel of Trapped Beasts)
I totally thought this song would be more masculine sounding, but it turns out to be softer and more alternative rock to me. The title itself reminds me of Ban Shou Ren, and would've thought it was like a continuation of that. I'm finding it very hard to reconcile these titles with the way the previews sound.

A fat ugly teacher would perfectly, erm, complement the slim and attractive girl in Dong Feng Po. Other than appearance, the eagerness of the girl to write calligraphy (with Jay's assistance) would be better downplayed with Jay's desire to avoid having his fat ugly teacher grab his hand and guide it across the writing paper.

You know how some old folks enjoy playing Chinese chess to pass their time and to stimulate their brains to work? But the tune doesn't go along at all. Why would he (or the MV director) want to feature old folks? And with that tune?
*tries to visualise head-banging old folks*
And I also find 困獸之鬥 pretty alternative rock. In fact, I had difficulties trying to describe the preview, because I had no idea how to relate it to his previous works. It just didn't sound like anything he had done before, and that makes me look forward to the album.

Don't have to try to visualize, we can already glimpse hip hopping old folks from that little snippet. From the way the music is and the MV, I feel that the whole song may be like a paraody? And the heavy hip hop beats maybe just to accentuate it. But what are they parodying I have no idea.
Similar to 困獸之鬥, I thought Grandma was pretty alternative rock too. It sounds melancholy, like it's talking about neglect of elderly people by the society or something. Reminescent of Dad, I'm Back. If that's the case, I'm so glad Jay's talking more about social issues in this album.
