Heres part 2 of the main socializing thread in the Europe forum. :excited: Keep it up Europeans... :bounce: :bounce:
Erm...we were talking about Thailand and Finland?
cologne is a really nice city. i spent a large amount of my time there. the church is called "koelner dom". :wink2:
no i havent been to Germany before....but ive heard its such a fascinating country to go to but one day, for sure ill go there and explore the german lands
sauerkraut : "koelner dom" church :hmm: how to pronounce that. I still can remember d Mcdonald store at d corner of d road opposite d church hehe
hey there Pam! my firends went to thailand and told me it was absolutely beautiful country! i`ll have to go there winter time though, cause i have a problem with heat ><
sauerkraut: whoa, you`re going to kuopio? are you visiting helsinki anytime? kuopio is nice, but it`s kinda small (just like all the other cities in finland :D ) you`re taking finnish lessons? good luck, i`ve heard that finnish is a hard language for foreingers, cause of the weird grammar. but it should be okay if you`re sticking to the daily language^^

Hey there, I reckon Thailand is a great place!! And for those who say its really hot, well from my own experience, the weather is perfect. You dont actrually feel hot like you do in hk, coz hk is so stuffy and even if you stnad still, you begin sweating. In thailand, coz your near the sea, summer is alrite, you can wear jeans, and the feeling is like 25 degrees, even though the actual temperature is probably 32 degrees. know what i mean?? Well thailand is really beautiful and so relaxed!

dana: I know exactly what you mean! Here in Sheng Yan, the air is so still! I`ve been sweating like a pig here>< You can`t find a cool breeze anywhere and that`s why the air con is your best buddy! We went to Da Lian the other week, which is a city by the sea, and even when the temp was higher it felt so cool cause of the sea breeze! I was wearing a skirt and a top and I was actually cold in the evening! (Which never happens in Sheng Yan ><)
whee Part two already? I still remember when we 1st started the euro thread, I didn`t know any of you guys! And now I feel so much closer to ya!^^
Jess: I noticed that your CS` VP, good luck girl!! You really are better than the rest!
Hello guys !
No, I'm not from Europe but would love to visit it one day. Does that count ? You guys have the most amazing mountains and building architecture. I'm jealous !
I'm from the little tiny sunny island of Singapore, btw.

i'm not sure how to explain the pronounciation in english, cos english doesn't have the oe sound... :hmm: "coylna dome" is the best i can come up with, but even that isn't too close to the actual german pronounciation.

hi everyone, i'm back... just got back from finland, where i've spent the last few weeks. although it was lots of fun, i feel so unbelievably exhausted. i don't think i've walked so much in my whole life. O.o that's probably why my feet blistered up... urgh... it's so disgusting. anyway, what have you guys been doing lately?
Sparkling_Jade

Sauerkraut: You were here already? How did you like Finland? Where did you visit during your trip?
I just came back form China a week ago, and boy, there really is no place like home! 2 months in China has made me appreciate all the stuff I used to take for granted in Finland, like the water, all the forests, the peace and quiet and even the weather!
sauerkraut
08-08-2004, 01:26 AM
we were in kuopio most of the time, but we did go to other places like jyväskylä, tampere, savonlinna and helsinki, too. i really loved the lakes, the forests and the beautiful landscape, although i guess i liked helsinki best among all the places i've been to. i flew to kuopio about 4 weeks ago, and returned to germany only yesterday. :wink2:
in which part of the country do you live btw?
Sparkling_Jade
08-08-2004, 01:47 AM
I live in Helsinki, and I have to agree with you that it's probably the best part of Finland.. All the other places seem so small compared to Helsinki..
Yup, finnish lakes are really something!

I wanna go back again, so bad...
Where did you visit? You don't know peace and quiet until you've been to Southern China :P (Yunnan)

08-08-2004, 02:09 AM
yeah, i think i took about a zillion pics of those beautiful lakes. yeah, although i only got to stay one day and a night in helsinki this time, it was quite nice not to see all the same faces all day and all over the place like we did in kuopio for example.
and wow, it was so hot yesterday and the day before, so i was sweating half to death. i never quite expected it to be that hot in finland.
Sparkling_Jade
08-08-2004, 09:51 AM
Willy: I spent most of my time in Shen Yang, cause that's where my grandparents live. I didn't really like the place, but we went to Da Lian for a week, and it's so beautiful, I loved it so much. We were supposed to go to Shanghai as well, but it was so hot there and I can't stand the heat ><
Sauerkraut: Yeah, the weather here is so awesome now! The whole summer has been quite rainy up till this week.. It's like 27 celsius right now, feels perfect after 37 celsius in China :D Gonna hit the beach soon, yay! ^^ Did you go swimming in the lakes when you were here?
sauerkraut
08-08-2004, 01:50 PM
Sparkling_Jade: i wanted to go, but i was afraid of all those bloodthirsty finnish mosquitos. i got stung a couple of times, which got really unnerving, cos it itched like hell and immediately started swelling up. anyway, most of the other ppl went to the sauna (although i never did) and then swimming in the lakes. do you go to the sauna frequently btw? and do you happen to know muuruvesi and saunalahti? they made us go there, and although i really loved the landscape, that's also where we all got our fill of finnish mosquitos. :wink2:
scarletwillow: what is it that you're holding in your left hand on this pic in your sig? just being curious. cool pics btw.

Okay...i was sitting then at home and had to go to school and didnt get around.. but it wasnt that bad  ..
u have to know.. i live in Bremerhaven(Germany) ( city near Bremen, at the North Sea("Nordsee")) and u cant do many funny things here

Finland have mosquitos as well? I'm sorry, i thought only asia had them!
wow u totally put me off going to finland sauerkraut!
yarukon... what put you off finland? not the mosquitoes i just said right??
um... i just kinda picture northern europe as very cold... and the months of complete darkness? yeah, thats what i picture... and that my cousins that live in sweden tell me its boring.
sauerkraut
08-08-2004, 07:13 PM
yarukon: hey wow! :excited: another fellow german! :waves: welcome to jcnet...
ftlouiea: finland has TONS of mosquitos, i can assure you, mostly during summer time from what i've heard. there are also mosquitos in other european countries (like germany), but also in america and africa. so mosquitos aren't an entirely "asian" phenomenon.
Sparkling_Jade
08-08-2004, 08:32 PM
Sauerkraut: Finland has mosquitos alrite.. But they usually lurk in forests and countryside though. Personally I don't like sauna that much, but almost everyone has a sauna in their home, it's a finnish thing I guess. Finns are crazy when it comes to sauna... in the winter they like to go to sauna and then hop in the icy cold water (and if there are no lakes around, they'll just roll in the snow. It's suppose to boost up your circulation.
Dana: Yeah, your cousins are probably right, atleast Finland is very boring, especialy in the winter. You don't even feel like going outside, because it's so cold and dark all the time. But Finland's summer is very beautiful, and the temp is just right, around 25 celsius ^_____^

mosquitos suxx^^...
i dont know why i dont like finland... have no special reason :bleh:
yeah, thats right...its not so warm in the north of germany, but we had the last 2 weeks every day about 32° C
thats the reason why i'm havin a sunburn or exactly the 4th  ....but now i am brown colord ;D..and everything is okay^^
hey sauerkraut: do u live in germany and where exactly? or just on holiday??? and do u like it here??

Sparkling_Jade: yeah, but i like finland despite all those mosquitos. and i did notice that finns are... er... a little... um... obsessive when it comes to their beloved sauna. they made us go to three different places for instance, just to have us check out the saunas there.
yarukon: i live in a small town near cologne, as i have most of my life. :wink2: it's sort of ok here, but there are lots of places i like better. and how did you become a jay fan btw?
ftlouiea
08-09-2004, 12:41 PM
Hehe this image of Finns jumping into their saunas, then running out into the snow stark naked and rolling about... is ... ehem... hilarious! its like sauna-mania!
p.s. And ooh do you think Santa Claus gets in with this sauna-mania? Hehe...
hello europeans jay fans. i am not european, actually i am taiwanese but was born in brazil.

yea i am brazilian..but with an oriental face!! hehehe...
sorry..cant help you in guiding switzerland yet.. i havent stepped out of college since i got here... i have not even seen the town which i live in!! hopefully by tommorrow... so..au revoir... i will tell you more about it when i actually know this country..hahha... :)

hey i went to switzers for a french/swiss exchange. the schools they have are local but god do they have great stuff: so many gyms and heated indoor swimming pools, oh and one more thing that was new to me, they take pride in their school. wait let me check where i went. ah went to La Chaux de Fonds.
wow..really?? mine has none of those stuf...the gym is really small and they dont have a treadmill...only bicycles.. i prefer walking and jogging...no pool either..anyways..i havent heard of this school. by any chance to you know GLion? it is the school i am in...
ftlouiea
08-14-2004, 09:39 AM
Um... have not heard of that place.. Sorry! Sounds like you are isolated within your college till people rescue you!
Why did you go there to study anyway?
i came here to study becuase my school counselor said it was one of the best hotel manaemten schools, so i applied hre and got in... it is not exacltw how i though my college would look like, especially because they are pretty strict here. i though that in college i would have more liverty, but i guess thats the price i need to take...
today i went downtown to montreux, and did some shopping..basic needs. its amazing how thing are expensive here compared to brazil..i keep converting the currency. and it just drives me mad you know. but the view of the lake and place is really pretty. cant complain about that.
i geuss thats it.. bye bye...

switzerland is definitely one of my fave countries. been there a couple times, and it's really lovely there. i usually stick to the german-speaking parts, but i'd really like to go to graubünden (romantsch-speaking) as well as the italian-speaking areas.

wow, Iny is here! :excited: you are studying in Switzerland now? that's awesome! i always thought Switzerland is a great country. tell us more about it when you take a look around :).
so it's more expensive there than in Brazil? is it clean there?
hello!! yea i am studying in switzerland. i mean it is cool and everything, but i am still not used to the life here. i come from a big city and here it is a small town and everything is just too incovenient. kinda gets me mad actually, but i mean, there isnt much i CAN do right? hehehe...
yea, it is so much expensive then things in brazil, it is frightening. but their standard of living is much better so, cant compare to brazil. it is clean and everything, at least in the school.
you are from russia right? there are some russian girls in my class too!!! hehe...

jessca: I think their are many Jay fans in The Netherlands, because a friend of mine (who I know since last year) said: not another one, when I said I loved Jay's music...;) I hope Jay comes to Europe for a concert one day! Not to far, I don't think I could go when it is in Spain, but Engeland, Belgium, France, Germany and of course Netherlands will do :) Dream on...
I've had French and German in highschool for four years, but dont' consider myself speaking French or German, I only know some standard sentences, or words. I think it a waste of time to teach other languages if you only give two hour lessons a week, it just doesn't work. It's better to focus on only one language. Luckily, we had more English lessons :) Here in The Netherlands, many people speak/understand English. Television programmes spoken in English have subtitles, so you can pick up a lot of English watching television :)

xJayChoux: well, I hear a lot of Chinese girls are fan (I don't know many, but at least two I know are fan), and I think I've just made another one of my new friends a fan, I lent her the Eight dimensions cd, and she loved it. But for now, I think I'm the biggest fan of my group of friends, cause the rest hasn't even got all of his cds! I think Jay's list of European fans is growing, so there is always a tiny tiny chance he'll perform here someday, even it's is only for 1 song, haha.

the only chinese artist ive known to hold a concert in englands jacky cheung..he performed in london over a year back.
my friends in england know him, but cos the majority of us are cantonese and only have access to hk tv, its hard to get into mando music. but id say hes popular in newcastle.. =)
xtine - keep going!! :hugz:
katie - french and german? me too! i learnt german last year..could say i know the basics. now, im having to pick up french again after a year out. im definitely better with my french cos it was my first modern language, but its hard prioritising it over the german atm. ill be okie once i get back into it.. =P and i think its great how many languages you get to learn in the netherlands...you guys have excellent grasp of english over there.. :D *pokes sinny*
Katie23

I know some HK artists have held concerts in The Netherlands, but that was like ten years or so ago...oh, oops, gotta go to work...
Jacky Cheung...he wears weird clothes sometimes, like a purple disco shining blouse :S Like his old music though.
xJayChoux
09-30-2004, 11:34 PM
Katie, what are you saying? some HK artists have actually held some concerts in our little country? you say what? 10 years ago...i was...*counts*....4. -_-

*kicks thread* hey to the europeans!
Autumns well and truly here...i love the colours! Waking up in the morning is nasty cos its so dark and the house is so cold...but once youre up and awake and you step outside.. :D theres something different about the air and the birds and the sun hehe...
I think im gonna start carrying my digicam around with me a lot more now...just to snap some of the pwetty things ive been taking for granted lately.. =)
so whats autumn like in the other european countries?
Katie23
10-12-2004, 11:39 AM
I don't like Autumn it's cold and rainy in NL, well, not at this moment, cause the sun is shining :D But I hate rain and that's what Autumn here is most like. But I have to say, love the look on some trees, those red/orange/yellow leaves, very nice. But I don't like them falling down, cause it makes a lot of blurry messes mengling with the rain :( I prefer Winter, cause then the Holidays are coming, and with some snow it's perfect. I love putting on a thick coat, some gloves, etc, a perfect winter outfit :) Or stay inside, with some hot chocolat milk :) But it gets dark too early...that's another point to Autumn, since then the sky can get really pretty with the sun going down.
ftlouiea
10-12-2004, 07:50 PM
Hm. I dont like the weather of Autumn. Wind Rain Win Rain Chills. Other than that, and the horrible insects that come out, i like th colours and how everybody wears lots of layers.
Our tree next to our driveway has already turned auburn red, but the other trees are still green!
I need a jumper. Will go to topshop or H&M so i can get 10% off with my student card! Dude!
Katie23
10-13-2004, 08:55 AM
You get 10% off with your student card? WOW THEY SHOULD DO THAT IN THE NETHERLANDS (NL)!!! Then I would go shopping waaaaaay more often, keke. We get a discount at the theater being a student. But not on clothes...unfortunately.
christinetang
10-13-2004, 12:01 PM
a good advantage of being a student because you get discounts in most department stores but bad thing is that river island doesnt do student discount and i could clear the whole shop out if i did have discount !!!! :bleh:
ftlouiea
10-13-2004, 08:28 PM
Yup Katie, we get discount! And all you have to pay for the card is £6.50. You get discounts at most department stores except River Island, and others i haven't found out yet. Drat, River Island is so great. How could they not discount us? And at HMV 10% and Pizza Hut 20% which is scrummy!
xtine. any others that dont do discount? i need to know so i can modify my shopping plans! Do Republic do it??
Katie23
10-13-2004, 10:44 PM
Still can't believe it! So much discount is a reason on its own to be a student, haha. Oh, in NL, we can also get discounts on some tickets (i.e. plane tickets), and probably some other things too, like going to musea.
I have a Public Transport pass, which allows me to travel by bus/train for free from Monday - Friday, that's my gift from heaven haha.

eeee~! i watched Domino Day, friday!
all of them were soooo cool! and i think theyve broke the record of last year...
anyway...still 6 weeks or so to go before christmas...and my holz... i cant wait that long...so much work to do...
jessca
11-14-2004, 11:56 PM
Domino Day? :glug: as in the playing tiles with dots on them?
i cant wait till christmas holidays. i dont think anyone got enough rest over halfterm, so it seems as though its been non-stop since september. and although ive got modules in january, id still be able to get a week or so's decent rest. :D
we'll just have to stick through it together.. =P
and is it just england, or is it getting awfully cold outside now? so hard to get up in the mornings.. :depresse:
Katie23
11-16-2004, 03:04 PM
Kind of, but it's something different. The dominos are tiles, but without any dots. You place them straightup on their shortest side and in a row...and when you're finished, you push the first one over, and tadaa, the rest will follow...haha what a lame description is this...
It was held in The Netherlands, but many countries participated. Domino Day is an upgraded version of the standard domino tiles, because they make very complex and beautiful images and constructions, like projects under water.
They did break the record, but only with 145.000 something, the 4 million was not passed by.
It's not just England, it's freezing here too!!! And raining too, today at least...and dark...
Humpf, have to work on my essay...it's not going very well, I'm so slow at writing essays...
What are you guys going to do for Christmas? I don't know yet. We have another festival first here, called Sinterklaas, who looks like Santa Claus, but isn't..very odd.

Jecka!!! can't wait for u to get online. I hope u do it before i leave :) . Good luck with your essay. I have to translate this stupid article from Chinese into Russian and it's so difficult, much more difficult than the one i told you about last time, remember? about confucianism
and i gotta write a composition about my family in korean, hehe.
ftlouiea, wow, typing in gloves. it must be really cold there. well, i wouldn't mind using gloves right either, so cold!
ftlouiea
11-21-2004, 09:40 PM
Patya: Hmmm its not that cold actually.... I'm just making a fashion statement with my United Colours of Benetton fingerless gloves. Lol that was a mouthful.
Apparently it snowed in the UK somewhere? Any of you guys get any snow at your places?

11-21-2004, 09:53 PM

don't know about UK, but it's snowing crazy here!

11-22-2004, 06:30 PM
ugh. today it was snowing so much that i was completely covered with snow when i walked back home from school >_<
dana: that sounds cool, what color are your benetton gloves?
it seems like everybody's obsessing over christmas already.. i have no idea what i'm going to get my family and friends this year.. oh well, still a month to go
ftlouiea
11-22-2004, 08:40 PM
Hey but apparently, when you get cold, especially in front of computer, it is because all your energy is spent thinking. The blood flows to your brain. Apparently, capital A. Lol.
Oooh Patya and Heidi, you have snow already? Ooohhh i'm so jealous... wait, i mite need second thoughts. freezing my toes off or no snow? Ooohh...
Heidi, they are pink! so cool! I think i'm in love. with them.
Sparkling_Jade
11-23-2004, 05:57 PM
dana: That kind of make sense.. especially since you're not moving your lower body, so the blood can't reach your toes that well and that's why your toes are extra cold? hahaha. that's only my theory though.
pink! awwh. that's so cute. My new favorite color is green. Lime and pistachio look so nice when you pair it up with grey or some other neutral color.
ftlouiea
11-23-2004, 08:39 PM
heidi! shhh and apparently if you'r thin, its because you think a lot. i actually don't think so, but its one of those useless jibberish facts that you bring up to debate over now and then!
Ohh yess and green. speaking of which i have a pistachio trenchcoat! lol sounds horrid, but actually looks good with jeans, and everything else actually. i want a gap tweed coat. any of you guys seen the sarah jessica parker gap advert with lenny kravitz? oh and nicole kidman's new chanel advert is classy!
Sparkling_Jade
11-24-2004, 03:59 PM
dana: OH MY GOD you have a pistachio trechcoat? That sounds like the coolest thing ever <3 I bought a green Mango vest from barcelona, it sounds bit weird, but it's like the cutes thing ever. Too bad it's too cold to use it now.. :(
hahhaha then I guess according to that statement fat ppl have no brain activity? kinda absurd :D
SJP can pull off anything. She always looks so chic. I wish I could look like her when I'm 40..
ftlouiea
11-24-2004, 10:50 PM
wow i worship mango! and zara to add to that. so amazing and expensive the stuff there, but relatively cheaper in spain! drat, i want to go to spain. i think i've seen them vests, with white writing saying "mango" right? well obviously... but yeah. whip it out when it's... summer... in 9 months? doh. and sjp, having had child too! But if you do a close-up, she does in fact have some wrinkles coming on.... :-) Understandable.
christinetang
11-25-2004, 12:34 PM
hey girlys!
cool we talking about shopping= clothes my favourite topic hehehe
gotta say that i've only walked into one mango shop in my whole life which was in Marseille and that was 3 years ago because in Newcastle, we dont have one
gotta agree with dana that zara is a nice sophisticated shop but gotta add that H & M is as well! :wink2:
im like heidi, buying vests in the middle of winter but who cares if you like it then you gotta buy it because if you go back, there will be none left so grab while you can !!!! :-)
Sparkling_Jade
11-25-2004, 06:26 PM
Chris: We don't have Mango here in Finland either, but we're planning on getting 2 (!) by the year 2006. So till then, I'll just have to get my MNG stuff from somewhere else... :( H&M is okay, I like some of their stuff, but sometimes I'm not so happy with the quality and it's so common for ppl to shop in H&M here that you're likely to see the same stuff that you've just bought on other ppl.. sigh. Zara is cool, their stuff is so much cheaper in Spain though! haha You're so right, we're the kind of ppl who buy swimsuits and bikinis in december!!
Dana: Actually this is what my vest looks like MNG vest (http://www.webpost.net/li/lilhihi/home_campana.jpg) (the color is nicer in real life though :D) Shopping in Barcelona is heaven! They have HUGE zara and mango stores there! <3
Shanhaigirl
11-25-2004, 06:36 PM
waah, i love shopping! :excited:
We have a few Mango stores in Moscow, but don't think i've seen Zara anywhere here, hm. Is it that good?
Mango is considered a casual store here actually, it's not too expensive, so mostly teenages shop in there. But i like it, sometimes you can find really nice stuff there. But Mango is different in every country i think. 'cause in Shanghai the choice of clothing they had was so different from what we have here in Russia.
I gotta buy a new pair of winter shoes. gotta do it this weekend! I love buying shoes!
ftlouiea
11-25-2004, 08:28 PM
Xtine: h&m! but me and my friends call it "hum" cos... we do. i pity you that newcastle doesnt have mango. but you have the normal topshop and stuff? but that stuff is so typical, people who solely buy from there are so horrid. we'll my school. but ted baker is nice :-)
Heidi: nice vest! looks very sassy, dont you think? Lol. I'm trying to imagine myself in the huge stores in Spain. Relatively cheap as well, right? hmmm*
Yeah Patya, different in every country. Here its around late teens and early lady age, very classy. stuff that you can wear as a business woman, with a little chic. Say, HK have really skimpy stuff and "cute" styles in comparison. So yeah, different audience, different clothes.
Hmm need some boots, classy ones. I reckon every girl is either a bag person, or a shoe person, or BOTH. Me, I'm a shoe person, every type of shoe does it for me. :-)
Currently searching my ass off for stilettos with black satin ballerina-style ribbon that you tie up your leg. See any?
Shanhaigirl
11-29-2004, 06:18 PM
hehe,i'm definitely a shoe person :). I looooove shoes! when i was in China it was a disaster for me, 'cause Chinese feet are so small and i could hardly find any shoes of my size! I bought only like 2 or 3 pairs during the whole year :(.
Moscow is heaven for shoe lovers actually! But i'm still having hard times finding what i like.
Dana, haven't seen any stilettos that you're searching for :). they sound nice though! hehe
ftlouiea
11-30-2004, 11:14 PM
Patya, shoe buddy! Hmm how can it be? What size are you? I doubt you''re size 13 like my friend's friend is. Lol. Keep searching anyway, coz you'll meet your one love. Shoes i meant. Lol.
Hmm stilettos of my dreams. And rounded toe high shoes are nice. Hate pointed shoes/ boots coz they always elongate your feet.

and i don't like pointed shoes either! they make my feet even longer  . besides round toe ones are so in fashion now!
Mik , i'd rather call you that instead of Freak, haha. i kinda feel weird calling you Freak too.
we don't have any of the shops you mentioned in Moscow :shy: .

ooh i love zara! all their clothes are so pretty! i really love their shirts they sometimes have. H&M isnt bad either, its cheaper than zara...lol. but you can find the most simplest things there...love to shop there.
i dont like C&A....their clothes are so weird...when its a shirt it looks like jeans...when its jeans...it looks like a shirt. :dead:
jessca
12-02-2004, 09:51 PM
LOL! C&A that bad? when it was still open in England, i was probably 6 or 7 so i didnt mind clothes like that!
hehe...Zaras really good for simple basics. and i love how the shops laid out too...nice and colour coordinated! its really depressing though, cos the sizes are so small. im a size UK 8-10, but i prefer a Zara L. :glug: is it just the UK? or just me?
ftlouiea
12-02-2004, 10:16 PM
Really? Zara don't have L for 8-10... they have european sizes e.g. 36, the last time i checked.
i'm a sucker for different shirts rite now, the combo of knitted top and shirt underneath. "I'm Lovin' it" as Justin Timberlake would say...
C&A is kinda like BHS rite now. Not nice, very oldies. :?

12-02-2004, 10:48 PM
dana - i just dont get the way they size clothes in different shops. >< my last top from zara was Europe L...whatever that means. :glug: but im usually a size 10....so 10 to Europeans is L? or arent i buying them tight enough lol!
and BHS hehe...the last time i bought something from there was my junior choir uniform at least 5 years back lol! i really like debenhams at the minute though, we had one open a coupla months ago in newcastle...we got a mango too...which is big for us.. =P
ftlouiea
12-02-2004, 11:03 PM
Lol me like Justin? You must be dreaming...
hmm jess: i think i remember now, i got a top from mango which was M and was slightly tight >_< but yeah, they have small sizes!! or its just me and you :?
yeah debenhams is good coz it has a wide range of brands all rolled into one store. they have faith there! i want one of them bags they give you when you buy a pair of shoes. :-)

Hey! I haven't been on the forum for a while, but if I had known you were talking about shopping/clothes.... :excited:
I love clothes, but don't buy a lot. Unless I'm in another country, then I buy lots. If you look at my summer clothing, I can say that 80% is bought in another country, lol. :bleh: Yeah, when I'm on vacation, I tend to buy more than when I'm in NL.
I mostly go to Esprit, Mexx, Mango, but also buy clothes at nonbrandshops. OMG, thinking about cloths really makes me want to go out and buy myself some beautiful cloths for the Winter, including gloves, shawls, boots, a big sweater, nice warm socks, a hat, I've got my perfect outfit in my head already...

Jecka, wow a pink Burberry purse! :excited: I bet it looks good!!! I have a pink purse too, but it's not Burberry :( , lol
In China i got obsessed over pink and bought too many pink clothes! now i'm getting sick of pink, hehe. Want to buy more blue clothes. I never buy green though, it just doesn't suit me at all.
what are your fave colors when it comes to clothes?
ftlouiea
12-17-2004, 07:59 PM
Patya, green suits anyone! It's such a vibrant colour! as is pink btw :-) I'm loving a tint of green, blue, black with multicolour, or pink with brown. Lol. too much choice :excited:
jess: if you're scared to use your brand new monkin' burberry purse, i recommend you put some cling film inside it so the coins/ notes dont dirty your inside of your purse... LOL. the looks you'd get from the sales assistants at your OTT!

12-17-2004, 10:39 PM
OOh are we talking about my favourite subject again? :D haha
Jecka: Wow, the pink burberry purse sounds so lush!! I'm sure it's supercute! (just like it's owner ;))
Patya: I have loads of pink stuff too!!(and huge amounts of other pastel coloured garments as well) I'm bit bored of them, so currently trying to buy clother with darker shades :) And you'd look fab in green^^ especially in pistachio (which is my favourite color ATM btw ;))
I just noticed that i don't have anything blue (well, one shirt and a pair of shoes) or black (except for one pairs of straight pants that I never use) . I'm black and blue deprived!! :D

thats half a decade!! :glug:
wow.
hm...but i think im getting an unhealthy liking of designer. i blame my mum..shes rubbing off on me  and i blame my dads willingness to pay lol!
:shy: me and my mum managed to get from cruise yesterday one burberry handbag, one pringle handbag, a levi top and diesel jeans. i would have got a pringle jumper too (cos we could have got money off...pen ink on the back and it was the only one there) but my dad didnt want me to get it cos it was imperfect.
and we're heading down to london in february!! :excited: like my dad said, hes got over a month to save up
...but sinny might be going this week, methinks?
ftlouiea
01-05-2005, 12:02 PM
A cruise to buy soo many things? Wahh that's soo cool! Diesel jeans! Wah, i'm in such a jeans craze at the moment! They must be *gorgeous methinks*
Bah your daddy is a bit picky! Bleh, don't blame him. He wants the best for his little girl. :-)
Honestly, that pen ink would have washed of in the wash, eh? Ah, a chance missed. Things happen for a reason, maybe you'll get a... Versace jumper later in the year? :D
Coming down in February? In the half term? Or Chinese New Year?
Me thought that sinny lived in holland... Is she coming to London? Wah, everybody all visit the bestest place in the whole wide world! (*cough except bangkok, hong kong, ...*)

I really wanna go shoppin in London, i havent been for ages and London must have changed abit now me thinks :?

Ah that's nice to hear, christine!
yup, trip to london eh? are you the type of person you likes to drop into the BIG chain stores or to visit the little on-off mini shops? Me, the latter. :D
Btw, did it snow up North during Christmas? Or near then, anyway... I'm still waiting for the ice queen to bring some snow to me :-)
jessca
01-06-2005, 07:13 PM
the snow fairy forgot about newcastle! so much for white christmas =(
hehe...i prefer the smaller shops :D id still need to drop by harrods though..ive never been!! but i can imagine me and my mum and aunties will be spending most of our time in the as many stores as possible lol xD my dad and the men are taking the younger kids to the museums etc so we dont need to deal with them moaning keke...
apparantly you need to have your passport with you to buy stuff from LV in London? :glug: actually, i think we needed out passport in Copenhagen too..but i assumed that was so we could claim tax free. =\ weird.
but we're heading down for halfterm...and it just so happens that its chinese new year, so my aunts get their breaks too and they can come with us. we know someone who can use their staff discount to get us £20 return which isnt bad at all! :excited:
btw if we get lost on the underground, im calling you.
ftlouiea
01-06-2005, 07:41 PM
No white christmas? I heard it did drop by at Bath... for quite a while...!
Harrods? A must! Though, i used to make time for Harrods, i find Selfridges a better hangout for me, it has LOTS of vintage OTT jewellery! And the little designer sections so pretty and expensive... it's more modern... bleh, i don't know what i'm talking about. And it's also near to all the other shops which makes it more convenient, eh?
Hmm i don't think you need your passport. Only if you want tax free if you're on holiday here. It's strange LV never has sales, but honestly speaking, even though it never has sales, so many people still buy it. They don't need to do price cuts! :D
Chinese New Year! I lurrrve going to see Chinese people, yup the people. Well most of them are Mainland, but then some eye candies tottle about... :excited: I'm sooo shallow! The other day, when to Oriental City (outskirts ex-Yaohan) for dim sum, and man, sooo many nice guys.
Damn, how silly do i sound. :shy:
£20? Whoa, that's so cheap! It's totally worth it! It cost my friend the same to come by coach from Bath! Well, i don't know how different the distances are though...
Bleh heh, don't get too lost! I hate the really really long escalators in the stations, make me want to fall and make everyone else fall with me. :glug:

After all, Jess has convinced me to go! It's the price that's the main thing, I'm sure that if i revise prior to the concert, I'm sure i'll pass even if i'm 99.9% falling asleep on my paper :-) And you guys, are all coming right? Or at least I heard that Patya will try and make it, won't you!?

01-17-2005, 08:00 PM
kekeke..i think my parents have realised that im going no matter what.
i asked my dad whether id need my passport to fly within the UK...cos mine expires in april. he replied that we didnt need to deal with it so soon cos i dont fly down till june xD and i hadnt even mentioned london. :bleh:
but the main problem is saving up the money. i dont really want my parents to pay for me. but youll pick me up from stansted, wont you dana? ill end up taking the train back up to newcastle somehow... i AM that hopeless with public transport. *dies*
ftlouiea
01-17-2005, 08:11 PM
Lol really? aww your your dad is so sweet! Me and mum are on touchy terms right now, it's best if i dont say now... eh?
Yup, i think i might go for £100 or £75, how about you? I have no problem with me paying for it myself, its just that i want my mum's permission, you know! And i'm certain that if i'm going to something as big as this, the only compromise is to revise well in advance, no matter what i have to sacrifice, e.g. not going out for 2 months prior! :-)
Stanstead, i dont know where that is.... but i can tell you it's on the train map. i'm sure you can book a train from there right? i'm only 5 minutes from heathrow terminal 3, which comes in handy to pick people from hk, but not from newcastle! and if i have exam that day,ill probably meet you later in the evening!
wait, don't be sooo excited yet. god, i'ts all going to tumble down when he doesn't come, right?!
jessca
01-19-2005, 07:51 PM
dana...it would be soo good to go with you! :hugz: i know what you mean about wanting your mums permission. now that my parents have made it obvious that im allowed to go, its one less thing to worry about. my little sister wants to come with us though. what if i lose her. =X
but change of plan: for £23, we can get a return ticket to london by train. so im probably going by train then... >< i dont like trains.
and seeing as you reserve by paying only half the ticket price, we might be attempting to get the £150. cos we can all cough up £75 within 2 weeks. methinks. my friends were even wanting the £200..*dies* but by the time comes, i dont think we'll be able to pick. ill get anything thats available...
...ooh...my mum said its fine to meet up in february! =)
ftlouiea
01-19-2005, 07:58 PM
£150?! OMG argh. You're not kidding, are you... Which row would that be? Basically, you'd like the 2nd highest price, right? Let me think about that... And what's the next price? £100? Can i not convince you to pay £50 less to sit one row behind? *digs into empty pockets*
Train would be good... hmmm to Waterloo Paddington or Marylbone?
Oooh need to PM you about february and this ticket situation!
jessca

...ill try to convince them £125.
i dont think theres drastic difference in distance to the stage either. and thatd be an extra £25 to spend on the stalking. think HK style stalking.. we need to pay taxi fare, you know? =P
and i have no idea which station. :glug: same one im arriving at in february? *dies*
ftlouiea
01-19-2005, 08:11 PM
I'm still not sure on the price ranges coz they are moving them up and up, it's depressing! But could you convince them for the 3rd highest price available? Me needs to find a summer job to pay for that! And some extra pocket money to add to that...
Yes! HK stalking, cut the £25 and then you could buy him some present, and wait at the backstage! I'm sure his security won't get the hang of London buildings yet...
Taxi fare? Depends where it is. Me thinks I know London Arena and how to get there on tube, but will have to check. And anyway, still need the confirmation of the venue. Unless it is Brixton, which will be *rough*.
I'm thinking your station will be Paddington, it is usually that station for trains all around UK.
Oh well, make sure you have your bestest photo with a nice pose for your new passport

haaaaai.... going to be a lot of trouble for me! i live aaaaall the way in edinburgh so i gotta take the damn train aaall the way to london on the day which will cost around £40 return. then i gotta get the ticket before hand... gotta get front seats so that will cost me another..... £100+. then i gotta take a taxi or something to get to the place... dont know how much that will cost. THEN i gotta travel ALL the way back....
i think i even have exams on that day! these exams are so important too! i need them to get into uni! HAAAAI. what am i going to do now? if i have exams on the day then...... i wont be happy AT ALL. just a lot of trouble for me. will cost me a lot to go there but i MUST go.

^i have friends from edinburgh that might be making their way down too! :D but i hope you dont have exams that day...that would be a horrible choice to make =X
dana - thank you so much.. :hugz: youre making it so much easier for us to go! <3
about passport photos..apparantly theyre bringing in new regulations about the photo. you've got to be facing the way your bodys facing...nothing obstructing, nothing covering etc...and no smiling. at least everyone will be looking miserable in their passports then..keke...

After all, you can't spend ALL that money, and find you have a exam those days? I hope you don't though *fingers crossed*
Lol Jess. damn, and i was ready to do my superstar pose for my next passport... :-)
I'm going to keep checking! And i found out that there are NO restrictions per house, unless you reserve 100 or something...

I'm sorry... but I feel for you!
But exams are for the long term, right? don't be disheartened too much, coz in a few years, you'll find you have more time to travel around e.g. study leave and in the summer. Hopefully that will be the time of Jay's next round of concerts!

hahaha good old cantonese... gets boring after a while doesnt it... doesnt have the same beautiful tone as mandarin.... unless you have the Beijing accent... bleugh... sounds horrible .... always adding "r" to the ends of the words like... wo xiang qu waR, ming tian naR... did that sentence make sense... i actually speak cantonese too... learning mandarin in school with.... Beijing Accents...
ftlouiea
01-30-2005, 01:17 PM
joyce: i can read 60% of chinese words, write 40% words... but when it comes to writing "beef in black bean sauce" i think i'll need a little training with that :bleh:
the beijing accent is nice coz it's like... the "royal" accent in England. But normal Taiwanese mandarin is easier to understand.

Dana, looooooooool, he definitely likes to say "Am I right? Am I right?" :D I watched the match and the thank you speech again today, lol. It's just so funny how he cursed in Russian, not really loud, but Russians still could tell the words, hahaha! And thanking sponsors for such a long time was hilarious! :D
He was so friendly to Lleyton too, talked to him about smth, but Lleyton didn't seem to be in a mood to talk ,lol. Well, no wonder, after losing to the greatest MARAT SAFIN!!! =p
Joyce, thanx for telling the cantonese I love you :-)
Are the accents (sheng diao) the same in cantonese as they are in mandarin?
And i agree that the beijing accent is not easy to listen! I don't really like it, makes the language kinda rude sounding. I like the southern pronounciantion more. I like the way they speak mandarin in Shanghai, though Shanghainese dialect is awful!

Patya: not a story, tis real life! almost like movies, but it's very strange, which is why they're taking him to neurologists...
Jess: i finally discovered uses for logs instead of what i used to do "1-AM-A-log" :bleh: Mechanics is hard... from the experience I had, I don't wub it much. I hate it a lot! But then s2 would build on s1, and that's not very nice either...

ER? never watched it. STH is on in 15 minutes though! yay! <3

Like Jess said, and we have to figure the speed of a ball falling down from a building... tis :? stuff!
Dr Carter yupyup :bleh: I prefer Kovak personally, those strong brooding arms  I didn't like how carter suddenly went off to congo, meets a girl, gets with her. after him and abbey enduring so much together. this new series: i need to watch, coz i'll miss the plot line!
Jess: the ()()() move along and replace each other! tis fun fun! and the "boobless" thing that i learnt from my friend in year 8 :D We don't do tree diagrams? but they were so pleasing to the eye! Me thinks you'll be watching STH now... and having said i was going to do my Maths in an earlier post, I haven't progressed since there... that was 1/2 hour ago.

His story is sad? Which bit do you refer to? I can only remember from the Congo series, last season! I can't beleive they don't show that series! And we are on the 3rd or 4th episode of the new series! May i tell you vaguely what happens in the episode I have just watched? Two black girls, around 6 years old, are rushed into E.R. having received injuries from falling many storeys from a building. Although the doctors try very hard to save them, they can only do what they can. The mother of the 2 girls comes to see her dead daughters, weeping. Only at the end, we find out that this woman needs her mental medication, but it had run out last week. As Carter and a social worker question what happened to her daughters, she begins to remember, holding her son in her arms. Although her husband has died a year ago, she was imagining that he had come back to kill her. Fearing that he will shoot the door down and locked in her apartment with her young children: 2 daughters and a son, she tells them to hide, run away leave so he will not find them. She sees the window, and lifts her daughters up to the windowsill. Even though her son is crying out to tell her not to do it, she ushers them to jump out the window. They jump. She realises what she has done.
That's got me in a very somber mood. Oh dear. *runs to finish maths and to bed Dana goes*

I like the way they speak mandarin in Shanghai, though Shanghainese dialect is awful!
sheng diao.....not really,
the accent of cantonese and mandarin ar quite different,
cantonese I Love U dun have any change in sheng diao,
just very normal........i dunno how to describe.......
i dunno how is shanghai accent,
i think will better than beijing once

oh, Joyce, so there are no sheng diao in canto? really? how interesting! i thought every dialect had sheng diao. Shanghai dialect does have them, even more than 4 i think.
Lisa, hm, hard to explain what sheng diao is :shy:. Well, it's the 4 different versions of pronouncing the same thing in mandarin. like you know, when you write in pinyin you type the number of sheng diao. for ex. Wo(3) ai(4) ni(3)

lisa, dont worry! it's just that some of us are korean entertainment fanatics here! eat korean, live korean, sleep gasoos. :D
patya, we dont have sheng diao. cantonese, you just have to know the sound of the letter off by heart! though with some words, they can have different sounds in different contexts. Car can be said "chaer" or "gui", reason? don't know... :?

is it when the pinyin sometimes has lines on top of the vowels... eg... é ē ě è. it just changes the tone of the word... Cantonese kinda has that aswell.... but i dont think it matters as much as mandarin... example.... take the car example.... if we say Cher (hi tone) it means car... but if we say Cherrrrr (low tone) it can sound like (dont know how to explain this) its kinda like a sound word....we would use if you werent impressed by something.
ok i dont know what im talking about.... im just a beginner at mandarin so i might be wrong.... and my cantonese is disappearing from my brain since i hardly speak it.

Dana, wow, that's interesting. It's like there are no sheng diao's, but just...hm...confusing, lol.

Lol!
That lightened up my very bad day!
It's like Rochus shrank, and Marat grew... like Gulliver's Travels :D
Gotta say, Marat bears even more resemblence to Orlando Bloom in those pics
Canto, is just funny and non-logical. I give up.

caiyun,patya:
sheng diao is when u read a word, how's ur sound will be,
if u read a word in different sheng diao,
that two words will be different and dun have the same meaning.
u know in mandarin have 4 "sheng diao" ,
in cantonese auctually have 9 also,
but i dun really know about it.........=.=
i just know how to say it.

haha okay okay. i know what you guyz mean now ^__^ that's actually also that thing i was thinking of. hehehe. thanx for confirming it. hehehe. i once heard cantonese has 6 "sheng diao's" not sure tho..
i wished i could speak cantonese fluently. i think it sounds much better than mandarin, but that's only my opinion. hehe.

ive always thought that mandarin songs sound better...but for everything else, i tend to prefer the cantonese language. =P
its more personal? the slang and the little additional grunts of approval/disapproval are more fun :D maybes im used to the diverse dialects in the UK and it rubs off onto my mother tongue. whenever i watch mandarin drama, i think of a 'better way' the actor could have said it in canto <3

yeh i think mandarin songs sound better than cantonese. i dont know why. maybe because i am getting bored of cantonese perhaps? but i think when speaking... cantonese sounds easier. it is more clear (or i think so anyways) than mandarin.
grunts of disapproval? things like.... "Chui" "Meh?" "Cheeeerrr" and things like that.

Exactly those kinds of words ^^ :-) . Maybe coz I dont hear enough mando people talk, but generally mandarin language is pretty much how it is written, unlike Canto.
Actually, I'm so disgusted with some of the magazines and trashy newspapers that even PRINT with the canto dialect. Yes it makes it easier to read, but it's just killing everybody's knowledge of the chinese language. When they actually write down on paper.

I like mandarin sound more than canto. Don't know, mandarin sounds more melodic (is there such a word?) to me. But i'd like to know canto, just 'cause most of you speak it ,lol
I want to talk to Sinny, but she wouldn't talk to me, 'cause she doesn't want to speak english, so the only way to talk to her is for me to learn canto :D
you can print in canto dialect? how's that? I thought the hyerogliphics is the same :glug:
is the grammar different too?
Joey88
02-06-2005, 03:28 AM
i thought they were the same too.... maybe when writing in colloquial tone then maybe it is different grammar? im not sure. i think it is the sentence structure... because my mandarin teacher always says: "that sentence is more like cantonese" when im trying to translate from cantonese to mandarin so im GUESSING there is a slight difference.

Hmm... how to say this.
When writing GOOD chinese, then both canto and mando will be the same.
Canto has lots of colloquial terms, and people have started changing letters so they don't have to write out a phrase with the same meaning:
(You can see I'm sooo miffed about this, I bothered to write out a few letters to show you :bleh: )
From here, the above two is what you'd write out in essays etc. But now, instead of writing the FULL way of "don't have" people take out the two lines in "have" to represent "don't have".

ooooo you DO learn something every day then. never seen that before maybe because i dont read much chinese letter things.... i only TRY to read the nice formal newsletter which is WAY too hard anyways.
ftlouiea
02-06-2005, 12:47 PM
formal newsletters shouldn't have does kinds of HORRID letters.
lol, this has turned into a "value of chinese language" type of thread. Off topic.
Read in the news yesterday that in Italy, a baby girl was born with her legs stuck together like a mermaid. Doctors are going to operate on her, but she has so many other abnormalities, that she'll most probably die soon. (e.g. 1 kidney) :depresse:
