Dana, thanx for explaining! :hugz: But that "don't have" in canto is sooooooo weird! This hyerogliph just loses all it's meaning! I wish everyone would write using traditional letters, instead of simplified. But cantonese "don't have" is even worse than simplified, lol
aww, Dana, where do you always find this sad events? This is so sad, poor baby

02-06-2005, 06:38 PM
I'm glad you feel the same way Patya. It's just that the traditional letters are so much more... chinese. After all, we've used them for like... more than 4000 years?
Did you know, Korean letters used to be like the chinese letters before the Korean Civil War? Same for Japanese I think... <-- not sure about that :?
Shanhaigirl
02-06-2005, 06:42 PM
too bad i'm much better at simplified chinese than traditional :shy: That's because in our uni we're taught chinese that is spoken in mainland China and learn traditional chinese and wenyan for only 2 years ><
Yeah, Koreans used chinese writing nowadays too, like in newspapers or when they write their names. Japanese too.
But i don't like the way koreans and japanese write hyerogliphics. it's ugly. Chinese write it much prettier :-)
ftlouiea
02-06-2005, 06:48 PM
Yeah, thats understandable coz you're educated in China, I wish I could come over and give them Mainland Chinese people a slap across the face with a wet fish. That should do it, and then you'll be learning traditional, Patya!
They do? In papers and for names, is that why they have their own names that can be easily translated into Chinese and the names are in the same format e.g. Kwon (Surname) Sang Woo (Name). Ah that's just so nice, *wakes up from SW oppa dream* whoops, sorry!
Hmm, I don't really like japanese modern letters, but the korean ones are cool! Lots of circles! Sometimes it all looks a bit jibberish, but when it's handwritten (especially by SW) it looks very flluent and beautiful...
p.s. that baby with the mermaid disease- in news. I don't intentionally go looking for such news...

lol, Dana! but i think it's already too late, half a year and i'll finish learning Chinese. not that i reached the highest level possible (really far from that), but they taught me all they could in uni :-)
I wish i could learn more traditional chinese, but i guess i have to do it on my own. well, Jay's lyrics help hehe. I've got much better at reading traditional chinese after getting into cpop, hehe
I like korean writing too! it's so nice, i love to write it! But i'm saying that them writing hyerogliphics is ugly ><
I'm not sure about the format of their names, but i guess that's one of the reasons.

There is always time to learn, if you wish, the chinese language. Meh. My piano teacher told me about her husbands friend, when he retired, he was determined to play this one Chopin piece as his ambition. He tried to teach himself on an electrical piano, but later resided to my teacher to teach him. After being taught, he not only plays that piece; he bought a grand piano to play the piano as his hobby. Isn't that sweet
I like korean writing too! it's so nice, i love to write it! But i'm saying that them writing hyerogliphics is ugly ><
 I'm confused... :worry:
Shanhaigirl
02-06-2005, 10:20 PM
aww, that's so sweet story that happened with your piano teacher!
and you know, koreans write in korean letters and they also have hyerogliphics (chinese). they use hyerogliphics in newspapers. i like korean letters, they are kinda pretty, but i don't like korean way of writing hyerogliphics. I don't know how else to explain :shy:
going off for now. night night! <3
ftlouiea
02-06-2005, 10:24 PM
Hmm. So, Korean written language has both "Normal" words for everyday use, and also "Formal" words that showup in papers. *ponders on thought*
Oh well, sweet dreams Patya!

The simplified way started after the Chinese revolution right? When China became the People's Republic of China, I think. I'm not sure...
Both Taiwan and HK and anywhere where HK or Taiwanese people have migrated, continue to traditional letters!
Happy New Year

thanx for the information, dana!! ^___^ ohh. so they use traditional letters in hk?! i don't know but i thought they have simplified.. someone told me o_O but in the movies and so on they always use traditional.. so i guess they use mainly traditional and some (some special people haha) use simplified.. iunno. haha.
i was wondering if any of you followed the ski world championship?? anyway. coz i'm from austria, and usually the austrian are quite good and have very good results.. but what happened to them this year?? hardly any gold medals *sniff* hahahahaha. (btw. i'm a non-skier =P)

Austrians didn't win? So who did :?
It seems to me that Chinese New Year has a better atmosphere?
Well, today, I went to do my Community Service at a playgroup like I do every wednesday for this term and my supervisor, Celia, she got all the little boys and girls with little "red packets" and taught them to say Gong Hei Fat Choi to me! Mind, how sweet, for little 3 and 4 year old kiddies :hugz:

dana.. that's really cute.. it's always so cute when lil kids say something.. especially when they speak cantonese.. i don't know why.. but i think lil kids speaking cantonese is cuter and more adorable than when they speak mandarin. hehe.

It seems to me that Chinese New Year has a better atmosphere?
i thought this years chinese new year was probably the most boring in several years. There was many parties going on but all of them were just boring. i didnt get much red envelopes either... that means i didnt see a lot of relatives so that was pretty crud. im guessing your new year was more eventful?
Joyce: how was paris? were you just there for a holiday? ah... the memories of paris... *dreams*. what are your mock exams for? GCSE or A-Level or whatever? i got my scottish equivalent to A-Levels in May/June. SO not looking foward to it. Failed ALL my mocks for them.. highest grade i got was.... D.

Lisa: the austrians lived up by winning some medals then :D
And kids are even cuter if they are caucasian and think the "fat" bit in gong hei fat choi is the slim/ fat meaning! :hugz:
Joyce, how was the Paris trip? Was everybody geared up into Lovely Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day everybody!
Joey: it seemed to me that this year was better, after Sars and then the bird flu. As well as London trying to back the 2012 Olympics bid.

Charles and Camilla didn't kiss. It would seem inappropriate apparently. Everybody MUST remember the 1981 wedding, or at least seen footage and photos. The reason why this second marriage does not have a white long dress etc, Christine, is because it would just be... inappropriate.

Princess Kitty, you're right. As long as we try our hardest, we'll be fine. At least we've passed our own 'gate' of having done all we tried. Except who isn't a procrastinator? (Can't spell that.) And anyway, that sounds cheesy.

How could this happen?! this is so wrong, so unfair, so horrifying!
My condolescences to all Londoners
I so hope that all our Londoners are fine! :hugz:
I was so shocked to see the news tonight... It's so terrifying, what has happened.
I know I don't drop in here but I just hope everyone and their families and friends are okay. We'll all be thinking of you.
I hope London and the rest of Europe can remain peaceful and is able to recover from this incident...

I've just heard about the bombings too. apparently they're linked to the G8 summit?
some people just go too far in their protests. How will murdering innocent people help the cause?
anyway, we're all thinking about you guys.

Guesses are, it really does have something to do with G8. And a coincidence it had to happen straight after our rejoicing with the Olympic bid. :depresse:
Concern for all Londoners at 8.49AM, especially those who had the thought they were going to work like any other day.
Oh my god!!! Another terrorist attack in London!! It is really shocking to see this happening while people are celebrating for winning the bid for hosting the 2012 Olympics.
These terrorists are too much...killing innocent lives around the world. I hope they can think exactly what they had done over the past years....
I express my condolences to all Londoners.

Has it actually been confirmed it was a terroist act or are they just assuming that?

I sat in front of the tv set this morning for 2 hours watching the coverage. It's more horrific than I first thought.
Whether or not it was linked to the G8 summit, or whether or not it was an act of terrorism, remains to be seen. The positive thing (if we can call it that) was that the emergency service did a super job of coordinating the rescue effort, hence more lives were saved. thumbsup to the police, fire brigade and medical personnel!

My thoughts exactly. And the ironic thing: the bus exploded right outside the British Medical Association
Let's not dwell on the past, yes? Finding the missing, and then finding the guilty is all we can do before we have to move on like many Londoners are doing so now.

I agree with that. But wouldn't it be prevented there is high security all the time? Also, before incidents like this, are the citizens aware about how to do their part on preventing terrorism? Like, the government can raise awareness for citizens to do their part to prevent this incident from happening. For example, if citizens see any suspicious stuffs lying around public areas lijke bus interchange or in the Underground, they can report to the police immediately. That's what the Singapore government do to us.
What I want to point out is that it is everybody's duty to prevent this such incident, not just the government. We should not take things for granted.

:-x I hope its not just my ignorance that picked up on what you're trying to say here. Sometimes there are flaws in security systems because we're all human, its not as we anticipated that something like this will happen. And of course, all people have been warned to report unknown baggage and packages. It's also common sense. We've also received leaflets on 'How to react in the case of terrorist attacks' last year giving us advice on how to react.
I don't think anybody AT ALL has started blaming the government itself, no blame has been put on anyone. If any, we've highlighted some areas that may have lead to the attack. We couldn't have done much more to prevent this happening, coz it was planned to happen regardless. I hope you understand that.
Ok. I understand that. Maybe I'm not so aware about it beforehand. I just wanted to share my opinion. Sorry if I've caused any trouble here.
Anyway, besides that, I think we, from different countries should fight terrorism together. I'm glad that many people are doing their part to prevent terrorist attacks. Also, we should be prepared all the time as things can come without warning.

the terrorist attack in london.
i became a little suspicious when i heard about it. i was sitting in a sushi restaurant munching on a slice of salmon. then it came on the news.
the g8 summit protests. i saw many banners saying "Fight Poverty Not War". it was a bit strange how the bomb went off during the time of the protests. the world leaders knew that everyone wants us to pull out of the war as they are obviously not going to find anything in iraq. maybe.... this bomb was put off purposely so we remain in the war effort. trying to get us to continue with the war. we all know how evil the government is. democracy my arse.
i dno. *shrugs* just a hunch. ive been watching too many conspiracy programs on tv.

Fighting terrorism creates more terrorism.
Terrorism is a way to spread ideas through the vehicle of violence.
Fighting the vehicle will do nothing.
To combat terrorism correctly, the ideology must be attacked.
That does not include conquering countries for oil.

Hello Dear Sinny!
Sure I know you and actually you are Shinhwa luver too!
Yes Lithuania is very seldom to hear country!Only one thing makes us know is basketball,Lithuanian guys are pretty well known and won a lot of awards, like last year we were the champions of Europe also we have bronze medal on Olimpic games, dont remember the year, maybe in 2000 it was in Sydney!
Lithuania lies in the eastern Europe, on the coast of the Baltic Sea. In the north Lithuania borders with Latvia, in the east and south with Byelorussia, in the south-west with Poland and with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation.
The most terrible thing to me is that Lithuanian people are not interested in Asia stuff at all!!! So all my pals, mates, parents, relatives were very surprised that I adore China and listening only chinese, korean and japanese music!
xJayChoux
10-09-2005, 09:19 PM
wait. stop it right there. are you asian? because it sounds like youre not...your friends were surprised that you like asian stuff right? so if you are asian...they wouldnt be surprised. :hmm: right. ok...aish. mianhae, i dont know Lithuania's basketball team. >< i dont know much about basketball, though i like to play it. but yeah...i can talk about footie if you want. xD but oh oh! yes! i know you like Shinhwa!!! Talking about how I get involved in "Asia stuff",its all begun last year in December, when I started chatting, because I have to improve my English, and the first guy with whom I started chatting was from Taipei, yes he is Chinese. At that time I was listening only USA stuff, because I thought that chinese music and language is very funny and weird! So that guy send to me by e mail all S.H.E albums and I really started to like chinese music and language and now I simply adore it!!!It was coming my birthday(4 of February)and Jack told me to surf the internet for some other chinese artists and he will send me an album.Accidently I found Jay Chou, when I saw his pic,I just fall in love with him, especially I love chinese narrow eyes. You look very special! And he send me Jays 5th album QLX.Others 4 album I have DL by myslef and in February I have already joined jc.net forum!:)
But thats not the end,I am in 12 grade in school now and next year I will finish my school,so I decided to enter the university in Minsk.Belarus for study there The Chinese language, purpose of all my life is to live in China. So these past year I have changed really much.My parents, sisters, pals, relatives they are shoked! But thats my life and I know what I want.

Hi Sinny,
What's the nearest city to Rijswik? Im gonna be in Rijswik for about 2 weeks, end of next month and I really really wanna get to anywhere where there's an H&M (to get a hold of those Stella Mccartney designs they have on sale starting 10Nov) :D . Will I be nearer to Amsterdam or Rotterdam? Most maps I find don't show Rijswik on the map. Maybe it's because it's such a small town.
I've been to some countries in Europe before but I've never really been to Netherlands. I just passed by it during a trip to Brussels but I've never really gone around Amsterdam or any of the cities. Im so excitied to finally get to see it. I wish this trip were in the summer, though. I would have loved to see rows and rows of tulips just like what I see in pictures. :D

Dear Sinny:I have tiped the experience how was my summer holidays in Prague,I will include this in the end of my post.
Actually never try to come in Lithuania, because u are chinese and here are no asia people, and if I see some people sometime with narrow eyes,I cant stop staring at them, also other people do so too!lol
talking about bf,yeah,I havent got bf and u are right I am intersted only in chinese guys,so my secret dream is to marry chinese!ha,ha
And I think that Jay even dont know about such a country as Lithuania:(I think we have to go in Taipei or Hong Kong to see him,no chance to wait while he will come in our countries.
I have been in St.Petersburg(Russia),England(London),Germany,Fran ce(Paris and Disneyland)and Recently Czech Republic.
Also on Wednesday I am going by car with mom and dad in Belarus to visit some relatives.I will return in Lithuania on the weekend but not in my town-Klaipeda.We will visit my elder sister in Lithuanunian capital-Vilnius,she is living and working there. So only on Monday I will be at home;)See ya!Take care!
Prague:
This trip was organized by my school teachers. So we (Me, my twin sister Svetlana, Kate and Marie) accepted the offer and left to the country of all things to all people from the pulsing capital Prague to the back-in-time villages of Moravia, from toiling up mountains to lounging in spas, there's an experience to suit every taste.
This trip lasted for 5 days. Before reaching Prague we spent whole day and night in the bus. Truly saying it was quite uneasy, we barely could move. In the early morning we finally reached Prague. Prague is filled with beauty and can be enjoyed and explored for days, months, or a lifetime. Unfortunately we could spend only 1 day in this amazing, historical city. The weather was perfect, sunny and dry. Our familiarization started with Old Town Hall tower. As it was early morning, tower was kept closed. So we had some free time to hang around. To my astonishment in that place I noticed lots of Asian group tourists (mostly Chinese and Japanese). I couldn’t stop gazing at them. So we decided to take snapshots together. We mustered up our courage and went for them. We took pictures with many Japanese. They were amazingly friendly. None of them refused to pose for a snapshot with us. Then we had to climb to the top of the Old Town Hall tower for a great view of the square and beyond. Well, actually we enjoyed a lot. Then we went to Charles Bridge were we had opportunity to touch the most popular statue of St. John, Czech saint who was executed and thrown into the Vltava River from the bridge. The plaque on the statue has been polished to a shine by countless people having touched it over the centuries. Touching the statue is supposed to bring good luck and ensure your return to Prague. Later on our journey continued in Prague's historical centre- Old Town Square. The square has been beautifully restored and it is a good place to start your visit to Prague. There we could see the Gothic spires of the Tyn Church towering over the square and the statue of reformer Jan Hus, and the Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Hall on the opposite side of it. During our familiarization with the Old Town we had a brake in Japanese restaurant, where we refreshed ourselves with fresh Sushi and Sake. Concert of Dancing Fountains concluded our first day in Prague. Water and lights accompanied by music and on occasion, people. This is actually far more enthralling than it sounds - really.
After having a good sleep in a cosy hotel we left Prague and went to Liberec- historical and cultural centre of the Czech Republic. Our main purpose there was to visit the largest covered entertainment centre in the Czech Republic- Centrum Babylon, where the largest tourist attraction is the theme Aqua Park, with system of pools water-slides, saunas and various water attractions located in the pleasantly romantic environment of ancient spas. Due to my weariness I decided not to visit Aqua Park but to shop around. Truly saying, I don’t regret at all. I took CD player with me and listened to Jay songs. I enjoyed being alone, solitude for some hours was a necessity.
On the last day, on our way to Hrensko (town of mountains) we visited two medieval castles. The symbol of Cesky raj, Trosky Castle, now in ruins, which was built on two high peaks of volcanic origin, and Kost Castle which lies in between the sandstone rocks. Main purpose of the last day was to climb Hrensko Mountains. It was really hard and complicated to climb them, but it definitely worth it. The top view of mountains was so awesome and breathtaking that I even can’t express it. In the conclusion of our trip, the last adventurous excursion waited for us- water trip on the boats. Unfortunately, it started raining before our trip began and the last journey was not as pleasant as others. But anyway, even under such extreme weather we enjoyed our trip.
So our adventures end here. Exhausted and happy we got into bus and left Czech Republic.

crusty-applepie, hi hi! *waves* what's your name? ooooh you're coming to the Netherlands! yay! but why are you going to Rijswijk? Irina! :excited: OMG! your trip sounds fun! it must be so cool to see all those historical buildings and towers, etc. now i really want to go to Prague. ._. was there snow on the top of these mountains? otherwise it's no fun. ._. lol. but oh... i hope i can visit Lithuania sometime, i don't care if they are looking at me...i've had it worse in morrocco. believe me. *dies* and isn't Paris so romantic at night?

Irina hello! wow, you've been to some really beautiful places. I've never been to Prague myself but eversince I've seen Jay's video, I've also wanted to come and visit. Although I may not have time to swing by Prague this trip, I definitely am looking forward to see the place someday.

Hey guys! It's nice to see the European thread revived again. It's been quiet for some time.. I'm Heidi and I live in Finland, it's a relatively small country in Scandinavia, between Sweden and Russia.
Crusty: OOH Barcelona is superb!! We were there last year with all the seniors in our school, and it's so beautiful. Especially all the Gaudi park and all the amazing buildings he designed in the downtown. And Sagrada Familia, of course.
Darkness: I've always wanted to visit Paris. But I'm not very good at speaking french, so I do't know how I would cope there.. Actually I'm just writing an essay in french >_< merde. Hee
Irina: My sister lives in Sweden too! She decided to go to Uni there and that's how she learned swedish. Cool, we have something incommon ^^
Kitty: Hehe, why wouldn't anyone like londoners? We're planning a trip to London with my friend, cause it's so cheap to fly there, like only 75euros one way.
