I know this is a Jay Chou forum and will probably get flamed for this. But I need some place to speak my piece. Jay is nothing more than a false idol, the product of a marketing scheme out to get more of your hard earned money!
What exactly do you see in this guy? His singing is subpar and he's ugly as hell!
Why do you guys think he's so talented and praise every song he comes out with? Are you all deaf???!!!
All he does is change the tempo and pitch a little and BAM! there's your new song.
I'm so disgusted by this degeneration of the entertainment industry and how everyone decided to jump on the Jay Chou bandwagon.
The moderators at this site can delete this, but it just proves how ignorant and brainwashed you all are.

John, yes, I'm quite sure that many of the ppl here at this forum do admire those artises that you've mentioned. You have to accept that ppl do fall for marketing gimmicks, hence the music industry produce britney spears clones all the time.
I'm sure they do marketing for artises like Jay Chou, because that's a preresquite for the industry. But as you've mentioned, you think that he has an ugly face. And the audience clamours for pretty young things. But Jay still managed to succeed. This proves that he has the talent.
If you think that he doesn't, perhaps you should list some that you think deserve your respect. I think most of us here will be happy to check them out as long as they have the talent.

Wow John, what an impact you made with your very first post.

While recognising that everyone is entitled to his/her own view here, but surely there's no need for you to say such things. You know very well that we have this dedicated community of Jay Chou fans, and yet you chose to tread into the tiger's lair (for an hidden objective, I suppose?).

Fine enough, you don't like Jay. You're probably also disgruntled with the industry for churning out idols like butter. Yet, it doesn't seem apt to label Jay as a "false idol" and someone whose "singing is subpar". This guy has numerous awards and accolades to show for all his talent and work, and I'm very sure everyone else here would agree with this.

Not all of us here rever all his songs. Myself, for instance, I never really liked some of his songs on his debut album (and probably never will). Yet that doesn't stop me from liking him or any of his works. He has written many songs for other artistes as well (we have a complete discography of his work, if you're interested).

Try to be more subjective in your views. Don't put down the entire world just to bring forth your personal opinion. I would probably have deleted this as well, not only for your inconsiderate post, but for your constrained views. Take a step out of the well you're in, and you might find that the air outside is indeed refreshing and invigorating.

Also, I'm sure we don't think Jay's perfect, but music wise, I believe we collectively think he's talented. And we truly think so from the bottom of our hearts!

The reason why we love Jay is because of his talent, his looks, his personality...

You think he looks ugly? Well, first of all... John is a male name. I can't really expect another male to think that Jay Chou is hot --" and furthermore, as stated by others, that's not the only reason why we love him so much. He has good looks, and that's another plus. But even if he was the most unattractive singer out there, I would still love him for his talent.

His music. Did you know that he composes all of his songs? And not only that, but he writes lyrics for not only himself, but for other famous singers? He is also instrumentally talented and has a beautiful voice. To do all of that, it takes a lot of talent. And by having the fans like us, it's just a small part of what he deserves. He IS talented. I understand that everyone may have different music taste; I have several friends that hate him and his music, and I although I would prefer them to appreciate him music, I accept it because I know that (as an example) a heavy metal obsessor wouldn't suddenly like to hear sappy pop songs (I'm not calling Jay's music sappy pop songs; I'm saying that if someone liked System of a Down, they wouldn't start listening to Justin Timberlake's Cry me a River).

His personality. Who doesn't respect and like a singer that loves his fans and isn't conceited or arrogant about his fame? Jay Chou is a shy, talented music artist, who appreciates the fans he has and the fame he has earned. That type of artist is, trust me, A LOT better than someone who blows off his fans and thinks he deserves more than what he's getting. His lyrics show us that he's vulnerable like every other person; and most listeners like that in a singer, someone that they can relate to.

I can't convince you to like Jay Chou. If he's not the type of music that you enjoy, and if (if you swing that way..) he's not the type of guy you're interested in look-wise, that's your problem. I would love it if you started to respect good music, but I can't force you to do that, and by not enjoying his music and respecting the effort put into creating and composing it, you're really at a loss. you're right for one thing John, none of us have solid evidence that he DOES write his own songs, but he started off as a song writer, he wasn't a real singer at that time, he entered a singing competition and got second place, but Jacky Wu, his manager now, chose him because of his talents and gave him a chance, i mean, i admit, he's not the world's best looking guy, so if he truly had no talents, why would he be chosen? and one proof of his talents, at the singing competition there was one activity when the person has to draw something to do, like it was completely random, and he got one where he was supposed to compose a song to fit a set of given lyrics in 15 minutes right on the spot. Now he couldn't have possibly gotten someone to write it for him then, and he couldn't have prepared earlier, because he didn't even know what he was supposed to do until then, but he managed to come up with a beautifully written song that managed to impress everyone. and he practically spent days, or more like LIVED in the studio at a period of time composing songs and submitting them to see if other singers would use them, i mean, if he didn't really write those songs, why cram himself in a studio without any activities, while he could be spending his time with his friends or other things , just so he could make people believe him? i don't think so, i mean, he even got rejected the first few times, if he really didn't write his own songs, he'd be a fool to continue on, since it would simply not be worth it, and he still had to pay the guy to write his songs, i mean, it just doesn't make sense.

errr...correction ! no Jacky Cheung didn't jump on the bandwagon...hee..Jay wrote the song 'suan ming' for Jacky back in 2001 (the song was in his 're' album which was released in September 2001)..btw 'Fantasy' was out around the same time...and at the time Jay wasn't as famous famous like..at the moment..

I’ve been around in this forum for a while, and I don’t remember that I have ever try to hide this problem. I spit out whatever I felt. The main problem between me and my mother is different opinion, which we always able to settle at the end since we are able to set a decent conversation. I said that I don’t get along very well with my mother, because we almost never have the same opinion, but we still love each other very much. She care about me her only daughter, she cooks well me, worry about my school grade, worries about my future, is mad when my room is in a mess. We don’t express our love by saying “oooh I love you!” we show it to each other instead. Although I don’t like most of her ideas, I end up agreeing with her, because she knows what best for me And I will always no matter what stand up for my mother.

Well for me being able to defend something that I have always like, make me realize that the value of that something is even higher, because I fought for what I believe in.
