I like Linkin Park. Chester and Mike are my fav, but the rest are cool. They did get annoying when MTV and all the radio stations overplayed their songs, but I'm eagerly wating for their new album.

they're great! i've only heard a few songs from them but i've liked it all.. they have their own distinctive style too. if i hear them on the radio i'd know it's them. a few good songs from them are "in the end" and "my dsmbr".

I'm sorry to break it to you but one of the band members actually said "We did swear in some of our songs and we'll do it again" Anyway, I don't really care whether they swear or not, their music rock! :p

I love Linkin Park! Chester is hot! He was so cute and nice at The MTV Asia Awards. Before the show started, he was signing lotsa autographs for fans who were sitting at the block just next to the VIP block. Absolutely cool! I was at the standing area though so didn't manage to get one for myself.

Their latest single "Somewhere I Belong" absolutely rocks man! The video's cool too! Whoo Hoo!

Girls have you look at their new official website... there was this Singaporean girl who's so lucky and get her picture taken with Chester... and She said that she actually proposed Rob through Chester ha..ha.. :D One lucky girl... If I ever get to meet Rob, I'd probably frozed in front of him or say stupid things because that's what I did when I met my fave football player last year... luckily he was very sweet

i notice that mtv asia will (or already) have something special abt linkin park, better check the websites.

i just saw in mtv indonesia linkin park making the video - uf sorry don't know the song title, but it shows chester dreaming and mike shinoda sings in front of the waterfalls that turns into fire. cool, it's directed by joe hahn himself.

btw i read in one of the mags, the mtv radio (indonesia) reporter thought that joe is somewhat dyslexic (problems in reading) bcos he couldn't read properly a very simple line that they want to tape (sth like "Hi I'm Joe Hahn of Linkin Park .....) ... or pro'll partying too much (dat's bfr the MTV AA)

My favorite LP songs are "Papercut," "In the End" and "Runaway" but my favorite MV is "In The End."

The MV for "Somewhere I Belong" is pretty cool. Those animals were freaky looking and the monks were pretty cool. I loved the part where fire ignited. I wonder if songs on "Meteora" are going to be more mellow.

I can't wait until the 25th when their new CD comes out. MTV2 is airing their concert that night too. :)

Yuppi. Linkin Park's new album is totally ROCK.

No doubt Linkin Park is one of my favourite band to listen to.

Especially awesome are the songs like Somewhere I Belong and Lying From You.

How that Linkin Park can collaborate with Jay some time near the future to compose a Rap/R&B/ROCK song that could melt listeners heart!

I gotta tell you guys that I am one of Linkin Park's biggest fans! I am part of their fan club, I have all of their albums, all four, including the first one they made that they only had 1000 copies! Linkin Park got me into rock, I think that their Hybrid Theory cd was the first rock cd I ever bought! I used to listen to their Hybrid Theory album everyday, that was until Jay came along... I love Chester Bennington the most, his voice is so amazing, how does he scream like that! My favorite songs on Hybrid Theory are Pushing Me Away and Runaway, on Reanimation, Pushing Me Away and By Myself, and on Meteora, Hit the Floor and #7, I forgot the tile! And yea it would be so cool if Jay could sing all Linkin Park songs in Mandarin, I've always dreamed of hearing there music in Chinese! Hehe! I agree that it is amazing how they can sing what they do without using profanity! I relate to almost all of the songs on Hybrid Theory, but I need to listen to the words on Meteora to see if I relate to that one too! I've never been to one of their concerts, but one day I will, I just don't want to die in a mosh pit, Mike is super talented too, his MC skillz, but I love Rob, Brad, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn too, they are all wonderful, oh yea and I have all of their dvds too except for the first one, it was called something that started with an R, they are so goofy and funny, it's great, I would love to meet them because I know that I would have a blast, their music is touching and their lyrics really have meaning to them, I love their Meteora album! LP forever!

If anyone has any doubts about Meteroa -- don't. It's one of the only Western CDs I listen to... the music is really good, and the lyrics are great. One of the reasons why I've always liked Linkin Park was because of their lyrics; they're one band that I can really relate to, and it's not just some random words strung together. They actually have meaning, and that's why I love them so much.

All the songs in the Meteora CD are also really catchy, well written and composed. My favorite song has got to be Numb, so if you're wondering what a good song is from there, try downloading that one. The first single that came out from Meteroa was Somewhere I Belong; at first, I didn't really like it, but as I listen to it more and more and understand what the lyrics are, I like it more and more. The second single that came out with (that's been playing on the radio a lot recently) is Faint. That's also an excellent song.

Linkin Park is also an awesome band because they have a Korean band member ^_^ I rarely ever see asians in the main-stream music these days (well, in Western music, of course) and it's really nice to see him in the band. Also, there is a Japenese flute playing in the intro to song 11, Nobody's Listening. That's a great song, too.

Hm.. -goes off to listen-

I didn't know that Mike was half Chinese...

Anyways, i loved hybrid theory...I was listening to it non-stop at one time In The End was my favourite song. I still think it's a great song and the video is sooo good.

And all their videos are so cool especially the ones directed by Hahn. I even used their Somewhere I Belong music video for my last foundation project. To show how surrealism exhists in popular culture and as a comparison type thing. They're good.

Haven't heard their Meteora album tho'. From the comments it seems like it's a good album. Must listen to it.

I think that Hybrid Theory and Meteora are totally different, to me, it was like LP evolved into an even better band, I think that they have improved immensely and are even better than they were before! It's weird because most people would prefer Meteora over Reanimation, I like Meteora better!

I think that Hybrid Theory and Meteora are totally different, to me, it was like LP evolved into an even better band, I think that they have improved immensely and are even better than they were before! It's weird because most people would prefer Meteora over Reanimation, I like Meteora better!

I'm a bigger fan of Hip Hop than Rock and liked all the guest Hip Hop artists appearing on Reanimation. However, I felt their rapping had improved in Meteora.

Also If you like electronic rock you should check out early Nine Inch Nails. Their like LP without the restraints.

Reanimation was a great album...don't take me wrong

but the rap is not what made it so good

Linkin Park wasn't designated as a RAP band to begin with, so rap is naturally only going to be an additional element in some of their songs

if rap ever becomes the mainframe...Linkin Park is off my list

I agree with you, although I am not a rap fan nemore, I think that I would still support them though, maybe not like their music as much nemore, but they are some great guys who really love their fans, so they will always have my support! And yea they are considered more rock, not rap, and the screaming is my fave part, Chester is the man!

yer

i don't think, on any level, there's much of a chance of them ever turning into a Rap band

Chester has an amazing voice...he has one of the nicest American male-singer voices i've ever heard, he can scream and sing with equal emotional credibility...you can hear the pain almost...tres cool

Chester has a voice of an angel..*drools* Theres so much emotion in his vice, expecially My December, its so soft and hurting...I was so surprised that he can go from angry screaming to a sound that seems liked its experianced pain for a long time...

thats probably why i like Lp so much. And the fact that they mix two types of music and it all works out great is very talented in my opinion.

The rapping on Reanimation was only average but it had a more hip hop feel to it which I enjoyed.

LP themselves aren't anywhere near the league of Nas, 2Pac, Biggie when it comes to rapping. They should stick to what they do best, which is electronic rock.

What do you mean without the restraints?

Long before LP were around, Nine Inch Nails were at the forefront of electronic rock music. Their (NIN) music is much more hardcore yet very listenable as well. Check out their "Broken" album and see if you like it.

I like all different types of music bar country music..

I find that Linkin Park is pretty much a mixture of Rock, Electronica, Metal, Hip Hop and Pop.

All these song styles I like so it's sortof a dream come true for me. Though I thought they should have experimented with more styles in Meteora, it was a decent effort if not a bit derivitive.

Didn't really care for "Meteora".Really? Meteora is the best, I love it!] Eh... I thought Meteora and HT were about the same level. They both are good!

Sporks - I thought it was just the same stuff like Hybrid Theory although not as good. Reanimation was good though.I think that Hybrid Theory and Meteora are totally different, to me, it was like LP evolved into an even better band, I think that they have improved immensely and are even better than they were before! It's weird because most people would prefer Meteora over Reanimation, I like Meteora better! I prefer Meteora over Reanimation... that's 'cuz I don't recall hearing any of their Reanimation songs on the radio as compared to Meteora... and that usually means the album is not good? Correct me if I'm wrong about the radio part hehe. In fact, I didn't know LP came out with a 2nd album until I found out about their 3rd album. I'm such a bad LP fan! But I will redeem myself by going to the store right now to buy Meteora just to support them. :)

Hah!In Chinese songs,I like jay's the most, but when it comes to English songs,Linkin Park is one of my favorites!!
Same here! Same here too!

I love Chester Bennington the most, his voice is so amazing, how does he scream like that!Damn AsianHotgirl, you sure is the biggest LP fan here! If you like Chester so much... why don't you nominate him for American Idols?? lol. Kidding... but I betcha he'll win first place?? haha

Btw, I'm from FL too!!! So happy to see someone from my state. Too bad you're in the 407 area... that's like Orlando right? I'm in 305. I'm so happy I'm not the only FL Jay fan... will you be my best friend?? hahaha.

Neway, I just zoomed to Best Buy and bought Meteora. I didn't know they had 2 versions. One is called the Special edition and the other one is a Regular version... just like Jay's 4th album... altho I gotta say the packaging for Meteora was more better than Ye Hui Mui :sealed:

Is the difference between the Special and Regular edition just the Making of Meteora video? Also, you said that you bought the Limited version... is that aka Special edition? Or is that like a 3rd version? :yeah: hehe... listening to the CD right now... at first when you stick the CD in your computer... it gives you this start screen and I was trying to figure out how to play the CD instead. I almost thought I bought an enhanced CD with extras instead of the music CD haha. It totally confused me. I had to open my Winamp and tell it to play the CD for the CD to play. Malaysia does have really strict rules due to their religious background and it is very often that u does see many bands, especially heavy metal and rock bands being restricted from performing there. It is just something that we will have to respect as each country has its own legislations, although personally i think it can be quite ridiculous to restrict fans from such events. Its real depriveing in my opinion.

Agree as well that Hybrid Theory is the best LP allbum to date although Meteora is quite good as well. Linkim Park in my opinion is prety similiar to Nirvana in the way they do their music.

the most expensive tix is only RM 127 or USD 34 (USD1=RM3.80). chinese acts costs more, you know. emil chou's most expensive concert ticket in kl on november is RM 400!! now that's what i call bloodsuckers.

Then concerts in Malaysia must really suck!
i beg to differ this statement. i went to LP's concert last wednesday and all 25,000 of LP's fans from all over asia had one of the greatest times in our lives. we danced, jumped, screamed, and sang together without any problems at all. and for jL's 'the one' concert where kl was the last stop on may '03, he danced (we all know he's not much of a dancer) as on the night before in spore, he didn't. so i say, concerts in msia is much more happening than some other places even if there are restrictions imposed by the malaysian government (we don't really care).

none the less, i'm thanking my lucky stars that i was able to catch LP live performance here. chester was the most active entertainer i've ever seen (he jumped and screamed at the same time almost all the time) and has good 'screams'. mr hahn on the other hand, remains my fave LP member, though he packed on few pounds, he still looks cool. now, who says concerts in msia sucks???

i think that's true too, especially Mr. Hahn. his extra pounds really is noticeable, but he doesn't care. but chester should gain a couple of pounds more because he got sick and just recently been hospitalised (two mths ago). i don't really care about their body weight or shape, as long as they continue making good, clean music.

you mean, "from the inside"? yeah, i love that song too!!! for the MV they close a square in Praque and told the people to hold a 'riot' there. it's a cool video. my fave songs from "meteora' are 'numb' and 'my december'. their 4th single from 'meteora' is still a secret even from the record company management although the MV has been completed(it's an hand-drawn animation MV by Mr. Hahn)

i bought my live in texas before xmas, and it is an adrenaline-pumping performance!!! i love the behind-the-scene footage, especially the part where chester use breath freshner before they come out to the stage. i mean.... what's the point of doing that? it's not like he's gonna get upclose and personal with the fans  if he did it before a meet-the-fan session then i understand the reason for the action

what spydogg meant was, you get only 12 songs on the cd, but there's 17 songs on the dvd. i don't think they performed any new songs, but the dvd is actually shots from 2 different concerts in Texas (houston and irving within 2 days).

this is the list of songs from Live in Texas DVD+CD (songs not included in CD is in red)
1. Don't stay
2. somewhere I belong
3. lying from you
4. papercut
5. points of authority
6. runaway
7. faint
8. from the inside
9. figure.09
10. with you
11. by myself
12. p5hng me a*way
13. numb
14. crawling
15. in the end
16. a place for my head
17. one step closer

is it clearer to you now, esotericdragon what spydogg has said?

jo, i have to agree that In the end MV is one of the best (can't think for the other ones now  ) english language MV so far. one thing i like about LP MVs is they don't have this sexy girls shaking their ass like other rock outfit with cleveages everywhere. hey, you can't even see a decent MV nowadays on MTV. apparently, today's mantra for english language performer music video is 'the less you cover the women in your video, the better'.

i got their live in texas dvd+cd a few weeks ago, it was great!!
they did play the reanimated versions (versions on remix album reanmiation) of one step closer and pushing me away though. they said for future concerts, in europe i think, they would be switching some of their tracks to the reanimated versions, to keep things more interesting.

lol, that pic of chester is cute. he doesn't look that great with dreadlocks, altho i guess alot of rock artists had it in the 90's, and now as well.

man, u dunno how long i had to search for linkin park here, hehe but then is still in the early morning. anyway just got a news on them.
here:
A delay in the completion of Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit" video has the band considering releasing a clip for fan favorite "Lying From You" in the meantime. "We'll probably [release] the live version from Live in Texas [DVD/CD]," says singer Chester Bennington. The "Breaking the Habit" clip, which Bennington reports is "being worked on by a team of animators in Japan right now," is expected in April.

zhy378, you found the thread at last!!! this thread has been dead for quite sometime, i was waiting for someone to 'revive' it.

i can't wait for Hahn's latest masterpiece although it's 100% animation(yap, hahn is the director again with the help of an animation company. probably Toei animation who also did Daft Punk's "one more time" MV). breaking the habit is one of my fave song in meteora. well... almost all the songs in meteora speaks on my behalf.

too bad that the clip for lying from you is taken from LIT, coz the sound is not that great. it's actually released as a radio single not as a single single, if you know what i mean :bleh:

breaking the habit is probably my fave song on meteora, so i hope the vid will be really good (of course it will be!)
but i hate the way they release so many singles from one album, because since everyone has already heard most of their songs, it's almost not worth buying the album for the less-hardcore fans.

also, apparently LP will be writing a book about the Meteora tour - i don't know much abt it, but i think they're starting on it soon.

une_topaze
03-23-2004, 02:02 PM
yeah Loko, most of the other LP fans feel the same way (too many singles from meteora) but Lying from you are not meant to be released as a single if BTH MV is done on time(it's 2 mths overdue now). Numb has been played to death and 'from the inside' is sliding down the chart. considering that it has been exactly a year today since Meteora was released, i think 5 songs out of 10(session and foreword doesn't count) in a space of 12 mths is kinda reasonable.

BTH is nice(Chester said that it's spooky how similar it is to his feelings when Mike first shown him the lyrics. No surprise that it is his fave song of the album) but MY song is 'easier to run.' i love the simple melody and the honest lyric. that song is me. btw, are you a hardcore fan of the band? :shifty:

oh, i know about the book... i can't wait coz the guys really are funny bunch of people (read their interviews and you can hardly believe they're a rock/nu metal/whatever you wanna call their music band). it's gonna be released at the end of the year tho'. i'm expecting lots of pictures! picture! pictures! in it. i know what i want for xmas this year!!!! :excited:

EDIT 1: it's a coffee-table book with interviews, quotes, anecdotes and lots and los of pictures.

EDIT 2: damn it, BTH video will be released at the end of april. that's too long... i hate the waiting!!!

linkin park is on my fave rock music list, no doubt...i like their new style of rock which we now call "nu metal"...i have all of their albums...hybrid theory...reanimation...and their latest, meteora... i like a few songs from each album so i can't really tell which particular album i like most...by the way, dj hahn and mike shinoda are the cutest rock stars in the whole wide world/universe/whatever, you name it!!!

03-28-2004, 10:06 AM
the_one, how do you describe 'nu-metal'? seriously, i'm baffled by this music 'category'.

my fave album is Reanimation. i like how they reinterpreted songs in HT and make fast song mellower, vice versa. the energy in animation is overwhelming!

dj hahn and mike shinoda are the cutest rock stars in the whole wide world/universe/whatever, you name it!!!
not only cute, but also damn talented and creative. but to me, Hahn is cuter than Mike. maybe it's because Mike is married and hahn is not :bleh:

psstt... don't call them rock stars. they hate it when ppl refer them with that phrase.

03-28-2004, 02:44 PM
nu metal is a combination of rap and rock, une. examples are linkin park, limp bizkit, and p.o.d. ... i think there are more but these are the only ones that i know of. :)

by the way, MIKE IS CUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bleh:

oh, never mind before we start an endless argument. so they're both cool. 8-) :wink2:

if nu-metal is a hybrid between hip-hop and rock why don't they call it hip-rock or something? since you know this stuff, i have another question, how do you describe the sounds of old school and new school music? that got me stumped too!!!

isn't p.o.d. a christian rock group? i hardly call them a nu-metal outfit.

aww... you can argue with me, the_one (can i call you 'one' or you have other name i can call you?). i like a good debate. okay, you can have Mike and i stick to my DJ Hahn.
---------
off topic: i find you sign very funny coz jay is promoting sprite instead of pepsi. it's nice tho', i like it.

03-28-2004, 03:33 PM
hip rock?! :? uh, doesn't that sound a little...awkward? but that's just my opinion.

oh yeah, p.o.d. can also be categorized as a christian rock band...same goes for chevelle, switchfoot, 12 stones and all other bands you can think of...

here's something useful i found while browsing in google relating to old skoo/new skoo rap:

Old school hip hop

The very first hip hop to come out of the block parties of New York City in the 1970s and early 1980s is called old school hip hop. Compared to more modern, new school rap, old school has relatively simple rhythms and cadences that occur on the beat instead of wrapping around the rhythm, as has become common. Generally, subject matter was simple, good times, parties and friendship, with only a handful discussing political or social themes (Grandmaster Flash was a notable exception). Also compared with later hip hop, old school had a high amount of female artists, even though none reached quite the level of fame of their male counterparts. Rappers usually performed over disco or funk tracks.

The first recordings of old school hip hop were The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" and Fatback's "King Tim III". Sugarhill Records was particularly important in the early hip hop scene.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_school_rap

New school hip hop

New school hip hop is a rarely-heard term referring to hip hop created later in the form's development, contrasted with old school hip hop. There is no exact division, with the dividing line being variously placed in the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. Run-D.M.C.'s Run-D.M.C. (1984, 1984 in music) is one oft-cited boundary marker.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_school_rap

and here's a more detailed definition of nu metal from the same site:

Nu metal

Nu metal (aggro metal) is a type of heavy metal music which combines the traditional aggressive vocals and heavy guitars of metal with hip-hop influenced vocals, samples and/or DJ techniques. In addition, nu-metal guitarists are usually less focused on solos than in traditional metal, emphasizing the guitar's rhythmic role.

Despite the pronouced hip-hop influence, Nu Metal has proven somewhat difficult to catigorize. Some fans and musicians have a firm concept of genre and subgenre, but others reject such catigoization as limiting or useless. There is often signifigant crossover from one category to another, and often the influence of non-metal music.

The resulting sound owes much Faith No More and Rage Against The Machine, but the roots of nu-metal can be traced much further back. It is highly influenced by alternative rock and heavy metal music acts from the late 1980's and early 1990's such as Metallica, Tool, Pantera, Alice In Chains, and Nine Inch Nails. While the genre is generally held to have begun with the Deftones and Korn, bands like Cubanate began expanding the scope of metal music long before -- in the late eighties and early nineties -- by exhibiting techno influences. The genre experienced an explosion in popularity after 1996, notably through the work of Korn and Limp Bizkit.

The stage acts and video clips of some of the more commercially successful of these groups owe much to some of metal's more pompous traditions, without much of the menace that such stylings used to represent. This fact, combined with the supposed unoriginality and commercialization of nu-metal music, means that the style is often derided by other metal fans.

The commercialization and popularization of the genre is largely a result of the increased availability of aggressive music in mainstream outlets such as MTV. However, many would contest that rock and metal have grown in popularity of their own accord, perhaps with the aid of hip-hop influences. This also leads to the questioning of whether or not nu-metal is "true" metal. Th

e bands of the genre tend to practice aesthetics that are unlike the rest of the metal community; favoring a lifestyle that is excessive (reminiscent to 80's hair metal) off of a teen angst basis. For its musical scale, it is the most conventional, simple, and radio friendly of all metal types.

The genre is occasionally called "nü-metal," using the traditional heavy metal umlaut.

Some notable nu-metal bands include:

Deftones
Godsmack
Ill Nino
incubus (band)
Korn
Limp Bizkit
Linkin Park
Lost Prophets
Papa Roach
Sevendust
Slipknot
Staind
Spineshank
System Of A Down

Linkin Park will be having a concert in Singapore on 22nd June in Padang
and they have release a new MTV "Breaking the Habit"

Yep, LP just released the new video for breaking the habit, a full jep-influenced animation video. you can dl it at here (http://www.videopimp.com), unless they've taken it down already.

The book they'r releasing by the end of the year is called "meteora: from the inside" or sth like that, and basically includes a heap of interviews, pictures, etc from their world meteora tour, so it should be great, especially for those who didn't get to see them live for whatever reason (like me....damn exams....)

btw lyne, i had no idea mike was married?? i thought it was chester who was married, and he has a baby girl right. i've heard about chester and his family a few times, but have never heard anything regarding mike's marriage.....and i thought i was a pretty loyal fan.....

loko, Mike was married on May last year ('03) and Phoenix got married sometime last year too (Dec '03). The other guys, Rob is in a long term relationship, Brad has a gf and Joe has an American gf   .

Are you going for their SEA concert? I'm already on my final stage of finalising my plans to catch them live in Singapore for the 2nd time next mth. Can't wait, can't wait!!! :excited:

A pity that US audience only get to watch BTH on 1st June(due to copyright legal problems), when Asian fans already been watching it for almost 2 weeks already.... Joe Hahn is a genius. I don't care if others call him an arrogant SOB, coz he is a damn creative genius!!!

To j-c.net member who is in love with jay but also like LP, check out if LP is coming to your country. If they're not coming to your country, go to your neighbouring country to catch them live coz it's worth it. If you're not a hardcore fan with nothing to do and money to spare, just get your arse there and tell me if my Mr. Hahn is slimmer or chubbier now.

Trishee, this is the latest news I got about LP tickets in TH.

Thaiticketmaster.com reports that THB1500 and THB1000 in zone B and C are sold out due to 12000 people capacity in these 2 zones. Other tickets are still available until the last minute before the show. 4 or less local bands will be opening bands, their shows start at 5pm. Linkin Park show will start at 8:30pm.

that means only 600bht & 2500bht tickets left. I wish you luck in the LP contest. Freebies are always the best!!!

Right now, I'm downloading a video where Mike Shinoda was punk'd(new season). It's gotta be hillarious!!!

Lyne, thanks to enliven this thread again !.

Got another question to ask you or whoever who had attended the concert elsewhere :

- what's usually the opening songs and the closing songs (prior to "encore" if any)
- are they on time or not (and how long to your experience). They will have a 3pm concert in Jakarta - open air beach side arena ! , while the "door" opens at 10 am.
- do they allow other /local opening acts ?
- any other LP colour (or "signature") other than black, I'd barbecue myself if I wore black from 10 am

Just watched "Story of Linkin Park" in MTV Indonesia. I guess it will be the part of the Meteora world tour vcd. It shows
-signing session in Japan. Whoa they got many presents and allow fans to take pics right in front of the table !Chester even wore the Javanese (not Japanese) blangkon (traditional headgear), from an Indonesian fans ? Heheh he wore something like Korean headgear and claim himself as King of South Korea and demand the camera man to kiss his hands. Oh while waiting, they dum-dum the table and create nice sounds, so creative.
- Glimpse of Malaysia concert and its dynamic fans ! They were on Petronas top floor, and in the bus they were so excited tosee public bus that carry LP Meteora concert banner.

Oh, this makes me more and more excited for the concert. Pray for no last minute cancellation , due to that stupid travel warnings or whatever.

I guess I'm the only hardcore LP fan in j-c.net forum :shy: that's alright...

to answer your questions:

Opening song: Somewhere I belong
Closing song: One step closer

The songs will start with songs from Meteora(in album order), followed by Reanimation (1 or 2 songs only) and Hybrid Theory. Look out for their live version of "Place for my head" It rocks!!!!! and pls don't say "NO" when Mike asked you guys to say "go away..." during the song

I thought the concert started at 4 pm, jie? That's going be blistering hot (near the beach, right?) and the wind.... whooosshhhh !!! wear sunscreen and hat/cap ya? It's not nice to get sunburnt... oh, That means you gonna miss on the colourful stage lightings coz it's in the afternoon....

Go early to get good standing place. If you standing near the fence, the officials will giveaway small stuff like button pin or guitar picks. The concert will usually last sometime between 180 mins -200 mins.

LP always do their soundcheck 3/4 hours before the actual show, and it's exciting to hear chester singing some songs for practice.... They do kinda start late, like 5 mins after the opening act ended their performances(in between, chester will sing Nine Inch Nail song, It's soooo eerie coz it sounded like they're playing a CD but it's really Chester singing softly).

Opening acts depends on local sponsers recommendations. In KL last year, Too Phat did the opening act for 30-45 mins. Mr. Hahn started the show by playing either sessions/cure for the itch. Afterwards, Chester and Mike start to say.... "Apa Khabar, Jakarta?????" or something like that. Chester actually said, "Malaysia Boleh" so maybe in Jakarta they will say.... "Indonesia Bisa"???? and start "SIB".

Haha, just wear white or other colour shirt, jie. You have to be practical and comfortable when you watch them. You don't want to over heat yourself either, but I guess the staff will spray most of you with water to cool y'all. I myself will be wearing sleeveless coz I'm going to be sweating from jumping and singing... and that's at night...

oh... I saw Chester's pics when LP played in a Rock Fest gig in Scotland last Friday and he's sporting a Mohawk hairstyle... he looks weird but Mike look soooo dashing.... even after being punk'd...

anyway, have fun jie... take lots of pics of my Hahn and maybe you will get some souvenirs or something like Mike's stinky towel... huahaahaaa.

oh that, LP special... Chester was soooo naughty on two occasion. one was while wearing the South Korean King Crown (that's actually a crown wore by royalty) and asked the cameramen to bow down and kiss his ring  . the second one will be the Korean Barbeque meat stick.... That's plain obscene....

Brad was funny too... especially in the train break-up scene... his comments are hillarious!!!! The public bus are actually ferrying fans from Singapore. MTV ran a contest there and they brought the winners in that bus *envy*...

is it 6 more days to the Jakarta gig, jie? I'm so excited for you!!!! :excited:

Lyne, thanks for the tips and all.
Yay, count-down to Sunday here. Juz watch LIT VCD, can't wait to be part of the jumping audience, screaming along with Chester. Can't imagine the smell if Chester also ask us to swing the shirts/towels - haha, I'd smell the same after 5 hours of sun.

I checked the location the other day, it's some 5 - 10 mtr away from stage. I'll open my eyes and ear oh so widely for Mr Hahn ! :excited:
I'm eyeing for Rob's drumsticks for my nephews. No towels thanks, esp. from Chester - eeek soaking wet after only 3 songs.

Who's Phoenix, is he the additional player and just joins LP from Meteora ?
Did you stand in front during Mal Concert ? Saw it in LP specials, maybe you're there as well ! :bleh:

une_topaze
06-07-2004, 06:49 PM
beach_gurl jie, I hope the drumstick won't struck you on your head when Rob throw his sticks. Maybe you should bring a fishing net (those bakul type at the end of the pole, forgot what's it called  ) so you can catch all the goodies in one time.

Phoenix actually with the group (then known as xero, before they changed it to Hybrid theory to the current Linkin Park) since before the Hybrid Theory album. When the band(Chester, Mike, Joe, Brad & Rob) come up with the 1st album, Phoenix actually played but he left during the album promo because he went for touring with another band(LP's future still unclear so he stick with his 'original' band). So the guys rope in another bassist to play for tours (you can see him in the video Crawling). That's why Phoenix was not in the HT album cover and in Papercut & Crawing MVs. He joined LP after he's done touring with the other group and become LP's bassist ever since. He's quite talented you know, coz he plays violin and cello too. I actually have trouble in differentiate him and brad when both them grow full beard... they look like twins

When I went for their gig last year, my fren and I kinda cheated. We bought the cheapest tix (RM82) and the seating is BAD. Luckily, we're among the first to be admitted to the stadium (we actually waited outside for 4 hours before they opened the gate) and when we realised that we can actually go to the RM110 seatings (stupid guards... huahaahaaa), we ran all the way to the front and chose the best seats available. we squeeze ourselves through metal fence and fall to the ground floor in order to get that view. My friend fell her ass when she jumped down... it's wicked  . Luckily those with RM110 have not been admitted into the stadium or we would be kick to where we belong

Through sheer determination *ehem* I ended up standing less than 50m from the stage, with PERFECT view of MR HAHN without needing to see the giant screens flanking the stage.... Topless guys were around me, my feet was stepped on countless of times but words can not express the experience of being there in person, watching LP do what they do best....

Heheh, Lyne, I'm racking my brain on how to get the closest to the stage without having to stand some hours under the sun. Wondering which one they mean by "door", coz I only saw one some kilometres in front (The arena is like an empty real estate site with walls around). If so, then I and everybody got to walk/ run for at least 3 km, eeeek.

I catched The Story of LP last night, that explain about the origin of the band name as well as Phoenix. So it's coming from Xero > Hybrid > got sued by other similar named band > Mike got an idea of "twisting" Lincoln Park's name. Juz know that Chester and his wife got identical "wedding-ring-tatoo", cause he got no money to buy the ring then - that's so sweet !. Also love the news that they do numerour social works ie singing for children hospital. Ahh, love them more and more each day.

I wonder if they would spend some time after the concert for greetings/signing right there. Seems their Jakarta stop would be so short :-(.

I know what you mean by loving them more & more everyday. They're don't fit into the typical rock band profile, on and off stage. They don't do drugs, most of them don't drink(coz only chester do that haha), they're creative, dedicated and really care about the fans. Chaz explains they use dragonfly experts who put that poor insect into the freezer, so it just stand stiff on Chaz hand until it "melt" and flyaway. Chaz assure that no insects were harmed during the actual shooting and they put the lines at the end of the vids.

So in love with "Faints" at the moment. Can't follow Mike's rap even with lyrics on my hand. And that's a slower number .... !.

beach_gurl jie, I love Faint!!!! Faint video is my fave of all (funny, when Mr. Hahn is not the director  ). The energy of the song is sooooo good... you feel energised from the start of the song til the end.

My Big Bad Mr. Hahn... yap, that was his nick name but Brad use it now when he sign autographs (BBB- Big Bad Brad, haha). Yea, Mr. Hahn came to do a promo on Meteora when it was launched last year in Jakarta.... so close, yet so far....

I missed today's LP special and The 2$Bill concert because they aired it in the afternoon when I'm at work!!!  STUPID MTV!!!!!  There's more next week but I'm still working...I feel like I want to apply for leave to watch it...

The video with dragonflies must be Papercut.... chester looked so funny with his red checkers pants and his mohawk (he's back with a mohawk.... saw it last week)... Rob didn't play the drums in it, right? Lot's of special effect in that video... if you look closely... :wink2:

Lily, you and beach_gurl jie will have fun... I can't wait to hear your stories!!!! remember your promises about the photos, eh???? :brows:
Are you singing too fast or too slow when you doing Mike's rap, jie? My problem was I went too fast.... but keep practising... you will get a hang of it... I still can't sing-along to some of the songs in HT, particularly "Place in my head"... Mike did it so smoothly.... and I felt like I'm going to twist my tongues singing it!!!!

Aww MTV. Don't worry, they'll air it several times, and it's always unapropriate times - at work, when you're out, when your eyes are 80% closed...!.

"Faint" that I like is the LIT version. I did compare the album and the LIT version in joehahn.com - LIT version is much much "well - done", relaxed, cheeky in a way Chaz say " I am ". Love all the elements of it, the guitar, the drums, the violins (it must be Mr. Hahn's sample). One of the few "fun" LT song.

For the concert I think I'll only able to take phone cam pics, they don't allow cameras "in all forms" - and the security here is more strict (softer word for "over-acting") compared to Singapore's one. Now uploading is the other issue - will get my nephew to help me with that.

Yay, do search each LP members name in urbandictionary.com. Mike got the most definition, 25 - all nice - must be all female fans. Chester got 11, but Mr. Hahn zero ! - there are not so nice definition under Hahn. You've got to do something there Lyne !.
Here's my favorite definition of Mike - wow, I wonder whether he would blush when he read this, hehehe :
Discription: very good looking with simplicity. Dark brown hair, "knowing" brown eyes, tall, manly, and he grins a lot. Long artistic fingers, big sincere smile, and built strong.
A very clean, good guy who is kind hearted and wise. He is talented and creative; handsome and funny. He's young at heart, yet mature and artistic. He's a rich and famous rockstar from the nu-metal band, Linkin Park, who at the same time could qualify for "the nice guy next door." He's a good role model and a great addition to the rock world. He married for love, not wealth. He is good to his fans and his bandmates. He is strength and love. He is Mike Shinoda.
Mike Shinoda is my hero, not for looks, but for being so human.

Now I'm trying to look for that "knowing" brown eyes and long artistic fingers everytime I played the VCD.

dum dum dum in less than 2 days I'll see them, aaarrrrggghhh (Chaz's way of growling).

Here's the promised "coverage"

LP Meteora live in Jakarta Concert, Sunday June 13th, Ancol Carnaval Beach, door opens at 11 am, shows at 4 pm.

There are 3 doors, 1st door opens around 11.30, 2nd door opens around 12.30 and the door to arena opens around 14.00. I arrive around 11 am and could park close to the 1st door , it was so hot, they must have use “pawang – hujan” (don’t know the word – sorta the opposite of rainmaker).
Most of the audiences are Indonesian, most pre teen were accompanied by elders , some caucasian – even parents with toddlers ?!?, Korean/Japanese/Indian. Mostly dress wisely ie long pants and short sleeve shirt, complete with hat/bandana/ towel, shades and sneakers. There are lots wearing BLACK ! LP shirt  .Some unusual dresser are ladies …shorts with halter tops and high heels !, mini skirt ! goodluck !.
Oh the fun part of the front waiting was getting the poster … which later my nephew lost in the ER room.

The organizer had warned that no food/bev fm outside allowed, hahaha, the girl next to me managed to finished her Mc. D, the boys in front finishing their Pocari Sweat, I finished my mineral waters (luckily small bottles). My nephew – who’s always interested with food notices that somebody brings a bag containing Breadtalk/Oreo and has to throw it away – ugh . It’s simply gross cause there are hundreds of bottles on the entrance gate. Security did a quick check on the bags, even undershirt (guys !) just in case anybody brings weapon (it happened here). No chains or sharp belt allowed.
After the 2nd gate, lots of ppl run, thinking that they’re already entering the arena … which is still some 2 kms away. :bleh:

After a quick lunch, we’re waiting near the 3rd gate … it’s actually “makeshift ER” tent.LP did the soundcheck meanwhile … I think it’s Rob, umm maybe Chester and DJ Hahn as well, the crowd was howling mad and shows the “metal” sign whenever they see LP’s personnel on stage.

The queue get longer and we quick jump to the side-front (against the rule) and really slow getting into the entrance rows. Once inside quickly running to the front, it’s left side of the left stage, est.10th row from the front, and the arena quickly filling in. There’s only some 3 mtr space from stage to audience, the space for security, ER and press. The stage is some 3 mtr above our head, plain, and smaller than I expected, maybe 10 x 6 mtr depth. Shit, there’s lots of metal poles, and taller guys in front of me, I couldn’t get a clear view of the stage. :-x The speaker were hanged vertically, and surprise for the noon concert, there’s some lighting arrangements huh ?There’s only one video screen placed right behind the monitoring tower – more for the benefit of “tribun” ticket ppl.

Hey I notice there’s lots of dragonfly on the arena – hahaha Chester don’t need to hire the stunt for this, get as many as he wanted !.
It’s getting really hot and no wind, :worry: ppl were screaming “Water … we want LP … Start now “. Heck, they only throw like 2 bottles of water at a time, and spraying so little. More and more ppl exited and got to be hauled from the front metal barrier, some fainting already – I think I saw some 40 “victims” during the waiting. And the more ppl out, the more ppl move upfront .. including me :wink2: , my last position was 3rd row from front !. I feel so weak and lacking oxygen. Rob showed up .. screams… later on Mr. Hahn taking pictures … another scream. While waiting, the technician/show team coming in & out. I only took notice of 2 guys – one that look like a famous local celebs, but at closer look more like Japs/Chi, he’s busy looking out and calling. The other guy is cuter :brows: , chinese and he was testing something at the front turntable – which surprisingly later was removed ? DJ Hahn act from the back turntable. His hair was down, wearing his specs (not shades) and black shirts. No smile, only “metal” signs to us.

When the show start it was practically a riot, you really feel it upfront, pushing and jostling, no space for jumping… and I was busy taking vids of the first minutes. I was swayed left, right, front, back … couldn’t stand it any longer, afraid of stampede or falling down … even exited was no easy feat . After what feels like eternity, they manage to haul me in – got nasty bruises on both of my calves    So there I was in front of the stage, swayed but trying to get a good look of Chester and Mike :brows: while trying to capture the pics (failed, huaaaaa!). All LP look clean and fresh – at that time I was even thinking illogically to stay out, sit down and watch them right from that bottom – which of course impossible cause I didn’t look like the journalist at all Anyway the security/ ER guy screams … walk, walk,… give ways… so I give in and continue walking to the ER makeshift tent on the back right of stage. It was simply a mess. Some ppl has to be aided with oxygen, my bro notices 2 were brought out with ambulances. The girl next to me lost her left shoes.

I was reunited with my nephews and my bro and LUCK OF THE LUCK, I met somebody I knew …who later on asked whether we wanted to get back to the arena or to the vvip stage (by special invitation only) – right hand overlooking the arena, sea and sunset. . We choose the vvip cause we could sit. So there I was sitting and watching LP, from 100 mtrs away  , almost empty and quiet vvip stage. Took some video, sound and pics with my NOKIA 6600… but it’s so small. The sound is more like some alien spacecraft trying to land on earth. The vids were all from “Faint”, and some part filled with my screaming wohoo wohooo and my left arms captured by the screen while dancing to the musics, muahahaha.

Now I could see clearly the vip arena were full while the “tribun” was only 1/3 (rest were faintings ?) and everybody were enthusiatic raising their hands and singing. Only give a good look at LP when they played SIB, and really stand up and dance when FAINT was in .. Guess I’m the only person stand up, dancing, pointing fingers and howling from that vvip area. My neph notices that a little girl to my left look to me in awe, huehehehe. … that’s the essence of attending the rock concert little darling !.

LP stopped abruptly in the middle cause some ppl falling down and Mike kept on saying “ When you see somebody down, please bring them up, ok !”.
Later on they continue… One nice part is picking a guy from the audience to sing along, he came up and hug Chester, lucky guy, he only have to rap one lines.
Chester was saying like “We’ve been waiting for a long time to play in Indonesia and you guys are great audiences” hmmm standard , but everybody incl. Me screams anyway.

They sang that 9 incl nail song and close with “One Step Closer”, heheh it’s nice to scream “Shut up when I’m talking to you “
The show only lasted some 1 ½ hours and the audience didn’t scream for “encore”, it’s either they were all exhausted or they know it from LIT vcd.

Later on I found out from my neph that while he was in ER (b4 the show start) , he notice somebody that looks familiar took pics (of the falling boys/girls/men/women), it’s Mr. Hahn !!!!!!!. I should have exited earlier and get his pic and autograph !.

The learning of attending LP Meteora live in Jakarta : come later, closer to the performance timing . Wear short or sleeveless tops from dry-fit materials, wear towels on your neck, wear pants with wide band (so they could haul you out from the arena  ) and sneaker. Don't bring bag, use cargo pants or waistbag. Connect your cellphone with strings or you got bumped and loose it. Unless you're really fit/big body, better not insist on staying in front of the stage, stay at the back, could breathe and enjoy the shows more !.

Later on in MTV Indonesia – “What’s Up”, there’s short interview – I notice Mr. Hahn is as fat :bleh: … ok as chubby as in LIT, and not yet shaving (ooo, no beard like Brad please !) Chester keep the mohawk down and comb it upfront (never more weird). Mike look like the good ol’Mike, and so was Phoenix. While Brad looks like Al Quaeda or some 70’s cult member with his full hair and beard, yiiiikeeees. :rasp:

The national paper Kompas graced the coverage on lower- right hand- front page – which is a great honor ! among the many Monday headlines like Euro Cup and the Presidential campaigns . “Linkin Park respond to their audience enthusiasm”. The opening song was actually “Don’t stay”, and LP sang total 18 songs throughout 75 minutes shows. Besides the unique mix of music, the LP strength is in the lyrics talking about emotions, angers, dissapointments, confusions, but behind the “loud” LP music, there’re always a message for their audiences. Quotes from LP :
Mr. Hahn : Everybody must have problems, what’s important is how we face it. And everybody reacts differently, just be yourself.
Chester : no smoking, no moshing, just fun
Mike : some ppl said that our music is rock alternative , hip hop, or even metal. We ourselves never categorized our music, we don’t care, what’s important we’re playing music.
Phoenix : our music is a hybrid of misc. music that influences each personnels.

Hey where’s Rob and Brad ? No talking ?

whoa..beach_gurl..seems to me you've already tell them everything..

Well at the concert i wear pants with tank top, hat, lots of sunblock and sneakers. I don't bring my wallets or cellphone. Only a few money in my pocket. And only one of my friend who bring the cellphone (old one So..if the cellphone gone it's ok..hohoho) as long as we can call our driver to pick us up at the venue when the concert is over. Well..me and my friends are in the VIP area too..i think we are almost the latest group who come to the venue to our side..so we almost at the back..saw LP in front of us by binocular..but not clear cos people like crazy jumping here and there..but we manage to saty together and try to have space so we won't faint or something..and enjoy the concert. That's all..screaming..jumping and singing..that's what i did..that's why i lose my voice now..hohoho..

well..what can i say about the concert? They are sounds perfect to me and it's really really worthed to wait that long..cos i've been waiting from 7am in the morning or so..and just make sure if they came again..watch it again..hohoho..well i met lots of Indonesian celebs who watch the concert too..and they, just like me, just stay on the back and enjoy watching people in front of us get crazy...hahaha

beach_gurl..i dunno about the vvip thing..gosh..100mtrs are so far away..and that lucky guy..envy him..hahaha..

Lily mei, you had fun too, eh??? What? No souvenirs from LP??? hehe.... wow, you must have sing very loudly indeed, chester would be very proud of you. It's amazing how he can scream without straining his vocals.... You can't help singing along too right? the energy, the jumping, the guys... drink lots of water...

they kinda dissappeared for a while, like their new video its kinda like manga, did joe draw it the images ?

Both Joe and Mike drew the characters themselves(they did Graphic Arts in college). Joe directed the video with the help of the same Japanese animators who did Kill Bill's animation. My Joe is so creative, eh??? :brows:

Nikral, can you recommend songs from the Used? Right now, I'm into Story of the Year and The Rasmus songs... :wink2:

Hmmm lets see:

Box of Sharp Objects
Buried myself alive
taste of ink
says days ago

but yeah about the music video japanese animators actually captured all of their movements on the scene from the rooftop and made it into the manga. Nakazawa was the director and the Japanese animators drew the thing.

Just got HAI magazine, 4 pages coverages LP Meteora Live in Jakarta :excited: :

1) A journalist attempt to be a crazy fan, stalking LP for 3 days, from airport - hotel - meet & greet. It's really funny cause in summary they admit that they prefer to remain journalist .Missions unaccomplished, within 3 days they only managed to see Mike & Phoenix swimming, Rob going to fitness centre, saw Mike in the cafe and the whole group prior to press meeting and meet&greet. :bleh:

2) Dinner with label, promotor and selected journalists. Brad didn't joined. Joe wore a black rimmed specs, light blue tees, jeans. :brows:
LP got 8 Platinum awards for Meteora album sales in Indonesia + 1 special award for sales > 1 million units.
Chester talked about TiVo and when Mr. Hahn asked about his previous "hand-print", Chaz asked Hai to make another 5 LP member's handprints as well.

3) Interview - unfortunately only with Mike and Phoenix
- they decided to came to Indonesia cause during the KL concert, lots of Indonesian fans asked them to have concert in Indo.
- they're quite nervous hearing that Asian fans usually greets (stalk) their idol right from airport.
- when they knew that the concert arena is beachside, M thought it's great so they can see sunsets and P asked whether there are jaws ?. P promised to play songs from their first EP, reanimations mixed with the originals - gotta listen closely !.
- when asked about possibility of reanimation II - from Meteora. M reconfirm no, they wanted to concentrate with new album. P promised a different "sound", maybe battle rap track, maybe ballad. M said they will give their best creativities and will not dissapoint fans.
- when showed Hai LP KL concert coverage, M said they were accused of lipsynch and P didn't play the bass according to the songs. P challenged anybody who accused LP of lipsynch to play his bass guitar the way he did and guarantee that LP NEVER LIPSYNC
- after Meteora world tour, they hope to record the new album ready for release in 2005. they're bored playing the current songs.
- they have new tour plans and will include Indonesia again !

4) Concert coverage : IN THE END ... IN THE FLESH
13 songs, 100.000 kv soundsystem, 20.000 singing and jumping audiences. One hour late and they open the concert with Dont Stay. But no moshing and crowd surfing like the video. During Place in My Head and Breaking the Habit, Chaz played his red PRS guitar and Mike his green Ibanez. They sing Step up in mini album indie Hybrid Theory, and one Nine Inch Nail song - special for Indonesia fans.
Overall, Hai rated the concert with 2 1/2 stars. Comfort only 1 1/2 stars.
Weaknesses : Chester pitch control during "growling", Sound system only 2 1/2 stars rated cause the strong beach winds. But it's great anyway

This is my review of the last gig of South East Asia Meteora World Tour 2004 in Singapore. In one sentence to describe the night, The guys are brilliant but the crowd really sucks. I will explain why later.

I arrived in Singapore around 1300 hours on bus and luckily I have lattae showing me around, how to use the MRT (darn confusing  )... after check in and a very long lunch, I bought the ticket (inner circle: SGD150) I noticed that there's a bunch of fellow Linkin Parkers bought tix at the last moment. Honestly saying, I was worried that the tix will be sold out, but I have mine.... YIPPIE!!!

6pm: A short walk took both Lattae and I to the Padang, the concert venue. There is a longggggggg queue for the inner circle ticket holders. I'm not even sure where the queue started and ended. Luckily there's this guy who make sure there's a proper 1 line for easy access. Usually gates will open 2 hours b4 the opening act kick start the show..... the concert supposed to start at 8pm. 7 pm, nobody moves.7.10pm, still here where i stood 70 mins ago.... Some people even bought McDonald's takeaway with them.

While talking to Lattae, finally the queue moves!!!!! after she made sure that I'm going to be okay on my own (THANKS LATTAE!!!!!! I enjoyed ur company!!!), she left. I was in the arena around 7.40pm... oh dear, the front part of stage is already full of fans.... I ended up standing 100m away from Mr Hahn turntables on the left side of the stage. the fans keep coming in, and started getting stuffy and hot. I was surrounded by tall guys.... can't see clearly..... but I stayed, coz i have a good view of Hahn's place.

The sun goes down.... and we waited patiently, some kind people throw water to cool us down. None of it made it to my side.... suddenly from the back, a muscular caucasian started to make his way closer to the stage, pushing those in his way to the side. We we caught by surprised and he looks like he's drunk. we started to back away, coz some guys tried to get him out of the crowd, there was a tussle and BAM!!!! one of the guys hit him on his face. Well, he look sober afterwards becoz he was bleeding on his forehead.... that was scary....

Finally, around 8.15 pm, 2 DJs came out and greets us to introduce the opening act. It is a korean rock band, Pia. They sang for 45 mins, 5 songs and getting booed everytime they started one song. Pity, coz they're quite good really, and their DJ is sooooooo cute!!!!! When they concluded their performance at 9pm... everyone like can't wait to see LP on stage. The staffs started to uncover the instruments on stage and tuning it... argghhhh... it's so hot!!!!

And at 9.30 pm, Rob was the first to come out, followed by Mr Hahn greeting us with one hand up to the sky.... everyone were replying the same way... cheering... and the started with "Don't Stay". Okay, this is where the problems started. Everyone is going in front to get a better glimpse of the boys on stage and after 2 songs, i realised I'm the only girl surrounded by tall, big guys  I can still see the stage tho' but there's not much room to really jump... I had my second scare when this group of guys on my left started shoving each other in circles and I'm like, "okay.... that's too much" coz obviously they don't care about a small girl on their right... :-x and i can't see the stage AT ALL becoz tall guys keep going infront of me, so i thought i had enuff, and I went to the leftest side of the stage to get better view and some air.

well, that side looks more like a picnic spot, couples were sitting down sipping cola staring at the big screen. and they paid SGD150, for that! and i noticed that the inner circles crowd were not throwing their hands up the air, or jumping(only few) when LP were playing their haedbanging songs.... I'm like, OMG these crowds are so pathetic.... they paid lots of money and they're not having fun.... that's so stupid!!!!

while repleneshing my body with cool water, Mike played a classical piece solo on the keyboard... everyone was quiet.... and then chester sang "Memories consume..." and we realised that they have rearranged BREAKING THE HABIT intro as acoustic and after the 1st verse, they played the original version... it was great!!!! and Chester forgot the first 2 lyrics of NUMB, he tried the second time but still can't get it right... he laughed and looked embarrassed and let us sang the song and he joined us for the chorus. After the song he said, You guys saved me on that one. thanks!!! HE is sooooo cute! :D

For SOMEWHERE I BELONG, instead of Chaz singing "it starts with..." Phi sang it, When they played FAINT, i ran to the crowd again to join the jumping, singing.... coz it's my fave song from Meteora. They also played STEP UP which really is good and IT'S GOING DOWN. They also did a nice Nine Inch nail song... and one lucky fan joined them on stage for PLACE IN MY HEAD. We also sang happy birthday to an LP staff who is leaving the tourage soon (it is her birthday too)... Their last song was ONE STEP CLOSER and at 10.45pm the magic ended... sigh...

overall, i think their gig this time around are better than the one they have in KL becoz of the song arrangements and extra songs they have. BUT i think the crowd were a disappointment, becoz I feel like I'm attending Blue concert.... it's Linkin Park for goodness sake, a rock band not a boyband... Jump! Scream! Wave! Dance! Jump again! Sing..... Go crazy for one-nite, that's what a rock concert is all about... you can really differentiate Singaporean fans and other asian fans in the crowds....

of coz i didn't let the crowd prevent me for having fun, after 5 hrs of bus ride to singapore, paid SGD 150 (which is like 3 times more what I've paid for their gig last year in KL) I'm going to create my own fun.... and that's exactly what I did, and I had more fun than most people around me. :brows:

It's a pity really, coz when they came 2 KL last year, Singaporean fans started a petition asking LP to play in their country. When they did, they don't look like they're having fun.... I remember in KL last year, the inner circle really rocks... they jumped non-stop and sang-along with neverending energy.... sigh.... I hope they will come to KL next year.

I had fun in Singapore, the gig was brilliant, awesome. My Hahn looks absolutely good even if he still carry those extra pounds(so chubby, so cute, wanna pinch his cheeks  ) the hair looks weird tho' should spike it up again, Chester's mohawk do looks better in person than on pictures, Brad look like a young Father Christmas with his full beard and curly brown mop on his head, and the other three looks like the same ol' Mike, Phi and Rob!!!! :wink2:

Thanks for that review une !

Did anyone read this review in Singapore's New Paper ? It highlighted the same points as une about the crowd. I was so disappointed to have missed the concert and was doubly shocked to read that the crowd was sedate. GEEZ !

Here's the review in The New Paper :

Title : Linkin Park live, S'pore style
Article by : Jeanmarie Tan
Date : 24 June 2004

LINKIN Park may know how to rock. But judging from its first-ever concert in Singapore last night, their fans probably don't.

Then again, maybe it's because the more hardcore ones were not inside the venue, but were listening to the US nu-metal band for free outside the Padang's 4.5m high covered barricades.

One man even ran to the middle of the road and shook his booty to the music, after which he was promptly chased away by a policewoman who whacked him with her beret.

And he didn't even need a ticket to let loose.

Hundreds more also joined him in camping around the Padang. Some brought chairs and even contemplated climbing trees and lamp posts to get a better view.

But why not pay to go in?

Most of the reasons were: To save money, and to avoid being packed like sardines with the crowd.

Anyway, half of the big screen could be seen from their vantage point.

In contrast, it was was far from frenzied and spontaneous inside the Padang.

As usual, Linkin Park delivered a rousing, first-class 90-minute set.

Singer Chester Bennington's screaming vocals were sturdy and pitch-perfect - although he did forget the words to the opening verse of Numb, but laughed it off.

Technically, Linkin Park's live performance - which included headbanging hits like Papercut, One Step Closer, Somewhere I Belong and Faint - was flawless.

Everything was in place for a rowdy night.

Before the concert started, emcees Daniel Ong and Sheikh Haikel announced that Bennington had told them backstage that he hoped Singapore audiences would 'go crazy'.

Haikel added: 'If you're working tomorrow, take MC! If you're going to school tomorrow, take MC! Because you have the right to party tonight!'

But these words fell mostly on deaf ears.

The majority of the 15,000-strong crowd - ranging from pre-teen boys and their parents to teens and twenty-somethings - was content to stand rooted to the grass, arms folded, faces expressionless.

If it wasn't an all-standing venue and if seats were provided, you can bet your last copy of Hybrid Theory that they'd be sitting down.

Some, like actress Corinne Adrienne, model Serena Adsit and their friends, were more busy taking photos of themselves on their camera handphones than watching the concert.

Freelance art director Tan Sheng Yeow, 27, paid $150 for a place in the mosh pit,

He was surprised the crowd ended up being so 'well-behaved' and 'sedate'.

Mr Tan said: 'There was so much potential to go wild and crazy, even more so than at the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, because we're at such a big open-air venue, and not the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

'I even managed to bodysurf! But all the young boys around me just kept looking at me and made me feel old and crazy.'

His friend, Mr Roger Wong, 27, a science communicator, added: 'Maybe the young crowd's still nursing the financial pain of forking out $150 that they couldn't enjoy themselves!

'The people in the mosh pit seem to be here because they are affluent and can afford it, not necessarily because they're the best fans.'

Yet, not all local concert goers are deadbeats.

A 25-year-old customer service officer, who only wanted to be known as Gene, was handpicked by rapper Mike Shinoda to go onstage and sing part of the song, A Place For My Head.

Shinoda spotted him because 'he's the maniac who's been jumping up and down the whole time'.

GOT HUGS FROM BAND

Gene also managed to receive hugs and words of encouragement from Shinoda and Bennington, and soon began running all over the stage, lapping up his 15 seconds in the spotlight.

After the concert, he said: 'I was jumping really high and hoping to catch their attention, because I dreamt of playing bass with them last night!

'I'm a 19-year-old trapped in an adult's body! But now my neck hurts!'

Student Rachel Tan, 17, was also dancing, singing and sweating to every beat.

She said: 'I'm still not tired. I'll never get sick of this!'

Maybe lacklustre Singapore fans should take lessons from two Korean women in the audience, who supported the opening act, Korean rock band Pia.

The bespectacled office ladies were dressed down and looked rather uncool and out of place at a rock gig.

But they bounced up and down to the music, waved banners, and screamed non-stop for their idols, until they were almost in tears.

They didn't care if others were staring, pointing or laughing at their madcap behaviour. Because that's what being a true fan is all about. - With additional reporting by Dominic Ying.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Home sweet home

BY the time you read this, the six guys from Linkin Park will finally be heading home to southern California.

As part of their East Asia tour, they had performed in the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Thailand for the past month.

Singapore was their last stop, so last night's gig was special.

During a 15-minute interview with The New Paper in the band's backstage dressing room three hours before the concert, rapper Mike Shinoda (below) said that the last show is always 'a little more fun' and 'celebratory'.

He said: 'Everybody's always really excited to complete the tour, because we want to go home to our families and houses again, driving our cars.

'It's almost like the last day of school - even though you're in class, you're just having fun.'

However, it would also explain why the homesick fellas were also less adventurous in exploring the city.

They had arrived here on Monday afternoon and stayed at the Four Seasons hotel.

Instead of hitting Newton Circus, they opted for safe sandwiches.

They only managed to catch the Vin Diesel movie, The Chronicles Of Riddick, browse at Borders, and walk around Orchard Road with big bodyguards in tow.

Shinoda, who is half-Japanese, misses his wife - they've been married for a year - and dog the most.

The 27-year-old said that coping with a punishing touring schedule and being separated from loved ones is 'difficult'.

'Most of the guys are married, so we're in the same boat and dealing with the same things. The best thing is to talk to (our families) every day.'

PUNK'D

We asked Shinoda how it felt to be the latest victim of Ashton Kutcher's celebrity-pranking show, Punk'd.

The other Linkin Park members were in on the gag, in which Shinoda reportedly gets slapped with a US$5,000 ($8,611) fine for parking next to a fire hydrant.

He said: 'Have you ever known, like when you were a 10-year-old kid, somebody who peed in their pants and they get really embarrassed and the whole class is laughing?

'That's what it feels like - multiplied by how many people get to watch it!'

Not that Shinoda has issues with being humiliated on national TV.

'I embarrass myself on stage all the time. We've done funny things during our shows, so it's not really a big deal.

'We play jokes on each other during birthdays, as well as on others, like the sound engineer and one of our string players during a recording.'

Linkin Punk'd?

Yap, the article is true... the crowds are  ..... I think most people bought the inner circle tickets becoz they can afford it and they wanted to be 'seen' in LP gig. I doubt most of them are hard-core fan anyway...

there are some youngsters (12-15 yr-olds) too.... and they looked so out of place. And as the article said, you can see the older member had more fun than the young ones....

ene, seriously, if you wanna go to their gig next year, go for the KL ones.... you will join the craziest rocking crowd ever!!!! :wink2:

Thanks Lyne and Ene for the concert reviews.
Ooo too bad, is Singapore's audience are that passive ? I recall when watching Jay's The One - I feel like standing up, waving, dancing, singing out lout - but nobody in my block even stand up, maximum nodding the head to the music.

Jakarta concert was not bad in terms of audience excitement. I saw waves of hands throughout the concert. Friends comments and 5 media reviews are all good !!!

Lyne, I think you described that almost got crushed feelings (my mashed potato !!!). Just imagine you're at the front side - that's why I gave up after only 1.5 songs.
Next time better ... either you go Jakarta or we meet in KL ??

I saw the video at least 3 times a day on TV, I'm having BTH overload  I like the story behind this video, it is deep and makes you re-assess your life and take charge of your own destiny. Have you seen the making of this video? It's really amazing how they did it. Joe went to Japan specially to oversee the process of the video making. He is the director afterall

oh here's a news something kinda about chester, hehe.

"Linkin Park crooner Chester Bennington, Good Charlotte guitarist-singer Benji Madden and hip-hop artist Kanye West make cameos in Hoobastank's upcoming video for "Same Direction." The musicians appear as prospective singers auditioning for the band, before ultimately losing out to 'Stank singer Doug Robb. "I think we got three vocalists for this thing that are the biggest guys in their genre of music," boasts Hoobastank guitarist Dan Estrin. "

umm..this is kinda off topic but it does kinda related to linkin park, even though it should be in a hoobastank, but couldn't find it, oh well. i can't wait, hehe. :wink2:

i think the way chester sings, is a LITTLE bit scarier, no wonder he got a sickness from his singing, like he screams and shrieks.. but i heard that when chester n his wife wedded, they were too poor for a wedding ring, so instead they had rings tattooed on! isnt that sweet? but now they bought a REAL marrriage ring :)

I love this post! I love Linkin Park! They're my favorite, right after Jay. ^_^ oh yeah. Isn this diao? My initials are LP and Linkin Park are LP. ^_^ I love their song "Numb" My parents make me feel that way... "Somwhere I Belong"'s good too. They're first single (that was popular) was "In the End" I have to thank my friend Thomas for getting me hooked on them. =) When ever something about Linkin Park comes up, my friends all say my name. lol. I only have three of their CDs. Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and Live in Texas. I want them all!

I've been away from this thread too long. I know there are many LP fans in this forum (openly or secretly) but I need more active members to revive in this thread.

LPx31, you have all three cds? How about Reanimations? That is a good album too, amazing piece of work.

Here's a little update on what LP is up to in upcoming months.

- The boys will take a much needed break after their Projekt Revolution tour in early September before they work on their 3rd studio release due sometime next year. Save money.

- LP will release an in-between album (similar to Reanimation before Meteora was released) sometime this year. However, it is NOT Reanimation II. Save money.

- Joe Hahn will use his break time to direct his debut movie, King Rat which is a modern day Pied Piper (Adaptation from China Mievelle novel). I don't know how he's going to do it between album making and directing, but Joe sounds pretty confident he can pull it off.

- Mike and Chester are part of Handsome Boy Modelling CD guest appearances list on a track called 'Could Never Hip Hop Like This'

- Chester did a song with DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit called "State of the Art". (PM me for the song-Radio version). They did the song two years ago, but was released for radioplay few weeks ago.

- Coffee table book "From the Inside" will be released in October/November.

- Chimera Music Festival (It's LPs final concert for 2004 in Brazil) ticketholders are required to bring 1kg of food each for the unfortunate and there will be a blood donation drive too. Talk about fun and charity at the same time.

BTW, this is Mike's personal request on today's M&G in Chicago, to vote for the band in this year's MTV's Video Music Award (Video: Breaking the Habit) here (http://www.mtv.com/onair/vma/2004/nominees/index.jhtml?catID=528). Currently, Good Charlotte is leading, with X-tina on 2nd place. LP is third at the moment. You can vote as many times as you want until this Sunday evening. Make sure the LP especially Hahn brings back a man on the moon. :wink2:

im not a huge fan of jay-z the only songs that i've heard from him are ninety-nine bottles and also crazy in love (which technically wasn't by him but he was in it) i'm not really into that kind of music, but i love linkin park like no other!! linkin park and jay-z came out with a song i think this past year and it was a combination of ninety-nine bottles and ones step closer. i wasn't exactly my favorite because there wasn't that much linkin park in it but still i was impressed with it. i'll probably be getting this album for christmas. it looks pretty good!

azndragon1987
11-08-2004, 04:35 AM
Uhh..it's 99 problems :D

Anyways, from what I've heard so far: Numb Encore and 99 Steps Closer, I am somewhat disappointed with this collaboation. I was hoping for more Linkin Park singing, rather than Jay-Z rapping to Linkin Park's melodies. I hope the other songs can prove me wrong.

11-08-2004, 03:47 PM
I've listened to the Numb/Encore mash and I have to admit that when I first heard it I didn't like the sound of it. Probably it's because I watch the MV first, then the song  The single has a good playing rotation on my lcal radio station, so I think the song is not that bad. You just have to get used to Jay-Z's voice, which in my opinion take up almost 75% of the song.

Watch the video if you can. Mike looks absolutely adorable in it, smiling and all. He looks so relax behind the keyboard ^^

"The biggest challenge in recording some of the new vocals was singing our dark lyrics over Jay's music," says Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. "Some of his songs felt happier than our songs -- which made for a different attitude in our vocals." :shifty:

well i though tit was awesome that they colloborated with jay-z i mean rarely do you see rappers and rock bands collobararte. but why would jay-z collobrate with linkin park, i mean there's plenty of good rock bands out there.

Shinoda enlisted his Collision Course collaborator Jay-Z to executive produce the disc, which he expects to release late summer "

Man Linkin Park should start a new CD, their past albums were great, and not to mention that they were chart topers. Well at least one of the members (mike shinoda AKA Fort Minor) decided to launch a solo CD (The rising tied), which was good but wasnt rock. I was suprised it was hip hop/rap, since the group was rock. well yea, its still good.

Well, I'm so glad that Mike's Fort Minor is only a side project because I really think Mike contributes a lot to Linkin Park :-)

Yea, in one song Mike mentions how their old company didn't want him rapping...so I think it's great he got a chance to pursue that in a side project. The cd (Rising Tied) is truely amazing, and I think I heard one of the songs on the radio last night...but I was too tired. Hm...

Linkin Park...

Hybrid Theory - Great.
Reanimation - GENIUS.
Meteora - Eh? Hybrid Theory part 2. They sound like little kids when they wrote these lyrics. I used to rhyme 'heal', 'feel', and 'real' when I was 10. Don Gilmore made them write some songs over at least 30 times, and when that happens, the creativity is GONE. Mediocre album at best.
Collision Course - Mash with Jay-Z. Good thing to embrace the mashing community.

I also like a bunch of their old stuff, such as some old demos of songs like Papercut and In The End. The Hybrid Theory EP is pretty good as well.

Mike Shinoda is producing their next album... so it should be interesting to listen to.

Just so you know, Chester Bennington has a side project called Snow White Tan that will be releasing it's album in 2006. The new LP album is set for 2006 as well.

"Working with legends, though, is starting to become commonplace for Linkin Park. First was Jay-Z with Collision Course, and now Rick Rubin is producing the band's follow-up.

It was actually hearing Rubin's production of Jay's "99 Problems" that gave LP the idea to approach him.

"He has produced so many of our favorite records, of everybody's favorite records, he is just so versatile," Shinoda said. "Anybody who can work with the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, Slayer, System of a Down, Dixie Chicks and Neil Diamond, for us, that is what our sound is based upon. We like to mix different things together in a seamless way and we think Rick is a guy who understands that."

Linkin Park are writing the album right now and have had several meetings with Rubin.

"He's already given us some really great tips on new things just to get us excited about writing another record," Shinoda said. "One of the things he told of right off the bat is, 'Don't think of yourselves as this is what Linkin Park is supposed to be, you can be whatever you want to be. Write anything that comes to your mind that you like.' So I think the next record is really going to break outside the box. You will recognize it as a Linkin Park record, but something that takes it up a notch."

With the band eager to release the record sometime in 2006, Chester Bennington has decided to delay his solo album until 2007 or later"

:excited: omg! linkin park's new single/music video is out "what i've done"

i just saw the music video of it last night on youtube, but now all of the "what i've done" are gone due to some copyrights stuff. the music video wasnt what i expected. it shows clips of history, like civil rights, war, the nazi, leaders like mao zhe dong, etc. kind of comparing to historica events to now. interesting tho.

I love the new song! It's so catchy! I saw the video. I agree, it is very historical. The lyrics to "What I've Done" really hit me for some reason. Hehe, I like the "na na na"s in the song. XD

What I've Done is an okay song. Even Somewhere I Belong was better...
I don't know what is the effect of Rick Rubin being the producer but I think Dan Gilmore suits their sound the most..
Oh well maybe it's too early to say now. No one's heard their new album fully yet..

Ditto that. While I think the chorus of What I've Done is pretty catchy, the verses sound otherwise. Yeah, even Somewhere I Belong as way better.

To be honest, I'm pretty disappointed with their comeback showing this early so I don't have great expectations from their new album Minutes to Midnight so I will not be frustrated if in case it fails to please my taste unlike their previous albums which really turned me into a fan.

alrighty, before the newest music video from linkin park on youtube was gone but now it's back. click here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sgycukafqQ)to watch. its alright, the song does remind me a bit like 'somewhere i belong' except without much of the rapping. they all got new looks in the music video.
