I finished my Hon. BA in Human Biology this year, supposed to graduate in June, but pending some application processes, I decided to take a couple of optional/backup courses in the summer, so officially I'll get my degree in November. Almost got a minor in Anthropology and another in East Asian but both haven't followed it all the way through. Took the courses to fulfill degree requirements and just as interest.
If I get my acceptances in July, I'm off to to become a dentist after another 4 years of school, or if I get rejected I'm looking at bumming around for a year.

well, i do try to study hard esp for my BS degree. but for Masters, that was mostly fun
no, im not working as a chemist. im still lookng for a job that i'll be able to apply my Environmental Science degree. For now, im working at a call center just to have something to do while jobhunting and going to interviews.
My interests have shifted a little bit. I used to want to work for manufacturing companies in operations but now, im more interested in environmental management and compliance. I want to be able to work in the energy sector, maybe in the petroleum industry or with organizations focusing on energy. That'd be really interesting.

Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and International Business)
I seriously considered a profession in the fields of chemical engineering for a good 6-7 years of my life. It wasn't until my final year in high school that I decided solving these type of problems wasn't what I wanted to do as a caeer, it was more out of interest. I found business to be an intriguing topic and I still wanted to stick math in there so I chose finance with international business because I really want to work overseas!

I'm currently studying real estate business in s'pore.I believe it will soon be very popular due to lack of property agents and evauation officers.
Where's Commerce/Business?
I think that'd be more popular.
Anyway...that's what I'm doing at uni.

i'm taking up BS Pharmacy right now. I wasn't really familiar with it before but I heard from a lot of people that it's a good course to use as a premed if ever i decide to take up medicine. basically, it deals with the components of drugs so the course really has a lot of chemistry subjects X_X

hey i think you should put up another poll
like one with a [double major] choice =)
thanks bunches
lil~jo
04-20-2007, 02:54 AM
I couldn't participate in this poll till this year!! when I've finally been administered into UNI.
I'm studying Law and Commerce.
I was originally going to study health science, to further my career into either medicine, dentistry or pharmacy...
but took a totally different turn.
By taking law and commerce, I dropped practically all my sciences and maths I studied in highschool.
I miss chemistry and biology.
But its nice to start something new and challenging.

I'm majoring in Political Science with a possible minor in either business management or South-East Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore. I don't really like the business minor though but I'm looking at it as a minor because it's pratical and useful. Pragmatic Asians!
I wanted to study law, but I didn't make it pass the final round so perhaps I'll just get a graduate degree in law. (: For now, I'm loving studying my arts and social sciences modules.

Mine is difficult to categorize. It's called Interactive Arts and Sciences, and in two years I'll be receiving my Honours Bachelor of Arts. It's a cross between every possible program and what it has to do with interactivity, digital media, technologies, immersion (aural, visual, any other senses we can find proof for), sociology, and psychology behind it all.
I was considering going with a Concentration in Computer Game Development, but the courses are lame and useless so I'm just sticking to my Honours.

I'm focusing a lot on 3D modeling (and in turn, some rudimentary computer science coding so scripting is included in my significantly-less-good-but-existing skills) because it's one of my better interests in the course, and am currently working on a 20-25 minute short 3D animation with two other team members that will be shown on Chinese New Year in a theatre at school that seats 500 people. We have at least 5 sponsors, the support of all our professors, and have spoken to the CEO of a local company that helps get video game developers' companies off the ground by connecting them with other talents and companies that can complement them. The CEO thought we were out of our minds because in a normal company, a 20-25 minute animation requires a team of 12 people, and we only have 3, rofl.
Hopefully that will get my work out there a bit and there are internships available for digital media artists downtown in the city where my school is. The year I graduate, the Ubisoft in Toronto is opening its doors and while I acknowledge it, I'm not necessarily optimistic because I know how many people will be clamoring for that.
If all else fails, I have a connection with a professor who lives in Vancouver in the summer (and is willing to rent out her house to students she knows and trusts for cheap!!) and she wholeheartedly supports a Masters of Digital Media program being offered at Great Northern Way that combines a Masters degree from UBC, SFU, Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, and BCIT so if I were to graduate from there, I would receive a degree from all of those other schools as well, and would have access to those other schools' facilities. They offer summer internships and it's not unlikely that interns wind up hiring those same graduates they had as interns. They're also affiliated with EA Games, Autodesk (the company that created the program we use to 3D model, Maya), and Microsoft. Not to mention Vancouver, despite being horrendously expensive, has 1,100 video game companies and the number keeps growing. Even if it's a temporary job and the smaller companies go down, it pays and it's good experience.
And even if that doesn't work, I have other skills and can play it by ear. All I'm really concerned about now is that I enjoy what I do. I would hate my life if I had to spend everyday grinding out numbers like my dad wanted me to do. :P

wow pinkdagger, thanks for that EPIC reply , i totally did not expect it. it sounds really really complicated yet quite enjoyable at the same time! good luck in getting where you want. and i absolutely agree - theres no point doing something you hate, because most of our jobs will be for life and i dont want to be stuck in something crappy !
so now i guess its my turn - im doing psychology in my second year now, (exams are right now actually) and im hoping to do honours and masters as well, i'm not completely sure what area of specialisation but i'm definitely interested in neuropsychology or something like that. BRAINSSSSS hahahah
megal - nah ! marketing isn't THAT bad is it ? i've known of some people in marketing, who make it sound quite fun/interesting

My vote goes to others, I took Japanese.
Learning language, especially those 3 major asian languages : Japanese, Chinese and Korean is my passion.
People keep asking me why did i take it as my major?
My answer is always "because i love learning language"
By learning language, you can learn about their culture and society too. and it's so fun enough for me.
