JAY IS IN DA HOUSE
MTV Trax 02 (Indonesia) – September 2002
Who says oriental musician could only gain success if he (also) acts ? Jay Chou is the example. OK Guys, put aside your oriental allergy and listen to his music objectively. Then you can give your judgement. Fair isn’t it.
2 years ago Mando – Pop world welcomes an additional R&B musician - Jay Chou. He’s good in piano and cello, he compose, sing, write and produce his debut album named after himself. This guy got experience,he has composed for Valen Hsu, Vivian Hsu, Jacky Wu, Lee Hom Wang.
Last year he released his 2nd album titled Fantasy.. Jay who carries crossover R&B, understand music technicalities, this Dan Jiang High School graduates often brings in loops , playing the piano himself while rapping in Mandarin.
“Singing, guitar playing and mixing doesn’t differs much in music creation. All that are only medium to create music”. Though Jay’s vocal isn’t as good as his rap , we’ve got to admit that some of his composition is “really there” – the vibe and the groove is there.
With good musicality, supported by untypical MV, Jay will further reap success .
Need a proof ? He won “Best Asian Artist” in Japan, where the J Pop competition is quite fierce.

Background :
Though BMG had released Fantasy and 8D album locally, Jay's existence (in Indonesia) are only through Oriental Infotainment Mgz, and very little bit of national tabloid (Vivian/triangle love gossip ).
I feel it's quite a breakthrough that his music is reviewed in a music mags like MTV Trax (not the biggest but quite a funky/modern mags for the 20's ). Will post again if anything new coming up.
