Okay, I went through the entire Small Talk forum and didn't see this topic, but if I'm cock-eyed and somehow missed the thread, please don't throw parangs at me. Anyway I'm pretty sure this topic hasn't already been created.
And I can't believe it hasn't already been created.
So anyone here follows the show? Any thoughts? Any bets? Any favourites?
Personally I was devastated when Jon Peter Lewis, my beloved JPL, got voted off, because I really liked him... well, obviously. I thought he stood out though because he's wacky and he isn't as strong a singer as the other "power house" contestants but his voice is different, and hence, IMO, unique. I loved his Elvis renditions! They were awesome!
Right now I'm rooting for La Toya London 'cause... well, she's a brilliant singer, she isn't cocky like Fantasia and she's sooooo classy. She rocks.
So, any thoughts?

I love Latoya! Her voice is practically flawless. Even Cowell thinks she's got the best voice in the competition! I think he's rooting for Fantasia though. Personally I can't stand Fantasia's voice! It's so damn nasal and irritating. Sure, it's "unique" but no way would I want to listen through a whole CD full of tracks featuring HER voice ONLY.
America has a lot of talent. All the girls are great. I like Jasmine and Diana too. Wow they can sure belt it out and they're only 16 and 17! I also liked Camile.. I liked her husky voice; it's great for r&b and soul.. I just didn't like her performances after she got into the Top 12. She looked so awkward everytime she was on stage.. weird mannerisms. She was really pretty though. I just think she needs to control her voice a little better somehow.
Well, since the results shows in the US are on Wednesdays (I think), and they don't screen here in Australia until Sunday, I dunno who's left this week. IT BETTER BE JOHN STEVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's so weird, like when I watch American Idol, I do see that America has a lot of talent. But at the same time, I see a lot of talent here in China too, except I see no personality or charisma. It really has to do with the way your raised. Or maybe the people I see on TV are just wack.
I read on the news that there was some racist accusations in American Idol? What was that about?

My fav is definitely Jasmine. She's fantastic. In Singapore we get the show shortly after America so I know the results. Do you want me to say who's out? I really like Latoya as well!!

I like Latoya and George...He is the only male left in the competition..Danielle is getting beta each week..she can be the dark horse..at last John is gone..but i feel sad tat jennifer went so soon..
xiaoli
04-30-2004, 06:14 PM
Umm.. jmin13.. who's Danielle? :? Do you mean Diana?
Oh. So John's gone. Yay! I thought he should have gotten booted off ages ago actually. He had the weakest voice and such boring performances.
I read on the news that there was some racist accusations in American Idol? What was that about?
There were 7 contestants left last week.. Ryan, the host, called them out one by one and told them whether they were in Group A or Group B. One of the groups was the bottom 3. After they all got called out, the last guy left was George -- Ryan simply told him he was safe and to join his group BUT didn't say which group. ANYWAY, Group A consisted of Latoya, Fantasia & Jennifer (three black women) and Group B consisted of Jasmine, Diana and John. Everyone expected Group A to be the top group because of all the praise they received the night before, so George naturally went over and joined them. Then we discover Group A is actually the bottom 3. So everyone was shocked, yada yada yada. Jennifer ended up leaving and she didn't deserve to go so soon.
regina12 - My fave is Jasmine too. She seems sweet and likeable, but I still think Latoya's got the best voice. It would be good if Jasmine won, cuz there are like no Asians in the western music industry. But it'll be tough! If she was in Australian Idol though, I think she'd have a really, really good shot at winning.
Yeah I absolutely cannot stand John Stevens.
Sure he's different, and at his age seems to be able to handle the criticisms well, but he's utterly boring. His voice only suits one genre of music. And he totally ruined Gloria's "Music of my heart". I almost wanted to switch off the volume when he was singing.
I was very shocked when Jennifer had to go.
She improved a lot during these weeks, and she definitely performed much better than some of the other contestants(ie John)
My fave is Latoya too. She's so classy and an absolute powerhouse.
I like George too, but his movements while singing is a little irritating. The way he bobs himself up and down with his knees.

I dont really know who's left now since we get the show a little bit later. the last episode i saw, i think camille got voted off. i think she would have been a great american idol. very pretty, good voice. i just think she ddnt try hard enough. it seemed like she had this i-dont-really-care attitude when the judges talked to her about those bad performances after she got into the top 12.
im rooting for jasmine..i know im a little biased but to me since we're talking 'idol'....i think she's the perfect age and has the best personality and look to go with a good singing voice among the people that are left. fantasia doesnt really look like she'd be an 'idol' she's more macy gray-ish. i think diana and latoya doesnt have that 'idol' look either...but then again, the stylists can do almost everything.

I'm sure I've read a comment elsewhere that compared Fantasia to Macy Gray. But it said she sounds like Macy Gray on helium.. lol.. kinda true.

My brother is an avid fan of this that I can't help getting updated with everything American Idol.
I thought Jennifer Hudson's performances were great, and she seemed to be improving a lot, controlling her powerful voice and all up to her last performance. It's really too bad she got eliminated.
Jasmine, I like her sweet voice plus her charisma. Though her voice is limited only to some genres. But I think she has the ability to grow as a performer.
I was left impressed by Fantasia's Summertime performance. I thought it was one of the best overall performance in the show.
I have no favorites, whatsoever, but for some reason, I can't stand Diana. I don't know why.
I think John Stevens got eliminated already. :?

I love john stevens!!!!
But too bad he got bumped off though, i dont know why i like him so much since the last few times he sung pretty badly, but maybe its just how cool and collected he is, and seem so shy at the same time. Although, ankh said, his voice really is only suitable for one type of music, i cant help but still love him!
Jasmine's the idol for me (a bit biased I know) but I think she's got the total package - looks, personality and voice (though the others like Fantasia and Latoya are much better singers than her). I feel that at her age, she still has a lot of room for growth performance-wise.
CA I also feel sad for camille... she was this close, yet she didn't give it her best shot. I read somewhere that she was actually already perfoming in front of huge crowds. She was the front act for a lot of Filipino artists' concerts in hawaii. I was surprised how she seemed nervous and not confident while onstage.
even if a lot of us hate simon for his comments, and for being too harsh at times, at the end of it all, you know that he has a point. and he's right. almost always, his comments really has a bearing on the votes.

wow...im so surprised to hear that lene. she didnt seem like she was used to it - performing on stage in front of people. but i guess she'd be famous one way or another if that's really what she wants. she certainly has the talent to bring her a long way.
I also agree with what lene about simon. people just despise him because he's harsh when he gives out his opinions but the bottom line is...he's honest.

No, not really, I dislike Simon because I think he tries too hard to make funny analogies, and he's always critical, but is it always constructive? Dicko (the Aussie Idol judge) is the best! :yeah:
I'm sure I've read a comment elsewhere that compared Fantasia to Macy Gray. But it said she sounds like Macy Gray on helium.. lol.. kinda true.
Just watched the latest episode and Simon said she sounded like Donald Duck on helium! hahaha.
Glad John Stevens got booted off~ about time! I almost feel I could sing better than him!

Just watched the latest episode and Simon said she sounded like Donald Duck on helium! hahaha.
oh but i totally agree with that comment tho!!! :excited: i've been listening to her sing and her voice has always struck me as....different....but weird....its.......its..........i couldn't describe it until simon used that donald duck description, and i just thought "yep! you've hit the nail on that one, mate!"
at the moment i'm liking La Toya. her voice is awesome! :excited:
Jasmine is fantastic too, but she doesn't seem to be able to just belt it out as well as La Toya...but then she is only 16 so her voice will prolly mature more as she gets older.
George is so funny!!! he's so wacky and goofy!! he can sing great that's obvious, but he's more of a soul and gospel music type singer and not sure whether that would appeal to a lot of ppl. not that soul and gospel music isn't good... but the contemp music industry is built upon pop, RnB and rock styles....

I love Simon. He's sexy. And that British accent... whoazzah! I seriously like listening to his comments; they're hilarious. And they sound natural, not at all forced, not at all like he has these scripted comments written somewhere. He's a natural. American Idol is nothing without him.
I still think JPL should've won. Or be at least in top 3. Because he rocks! :)
Not too fond of Jasmine and I downright hate Diana. She performed so much worse than JPL the week he got voted off and yet she got to stay. I mean, My Heart Will Go On? How goddamn PASSE. And I agree with Mr. Taratino: SO WHAT??
I like George. he sings well and he's cute. (As in funny-cute.) Fantasia is okay. I don't know why but ever since the latest episode (same as the one in the states) I've disliked her a bit less. Weird, eh? I still think she has a huge ego though. But whatever, La Toya should win!
Angels on clouds
05-02-2004, 04:56 PM
yeah...i tink Simon's got the sexiest british accent. (with the exception of Hugh Grant who's got the looks to go with it). but den, i love to hear him make all those snide comments in that delectable accent of his. even bad comments sound good! hahaha.
i hope LaToya wins. She's can sing, born performer and has the most charming personality! Go LaToya! if only i could call in to support her...heh
The only reason I watch the show is of Simon and the try-outs. After that, its all downhill for me. I'm sorry, but this season of American Idol is so boring, like its just so repetitive and drab that it annoys me honestly.
After watching it a couple of times I still feel like smacking Paula and I think they should have kept that William Hung on the show just for his originality... that would brighten up the show for me even if he can't sing, at least he has personality and uniqueness!
freebird_brown
05-03-2004, 07:47 AM
i think fantasia's the best. her voice is a little weird but she's got the personality to pull it off. everyone else is like whoohoo u can sing, but so can half the world's population. if your going to be on american idol you should be soemthing special. not just a normal girl like diana.
as for the judges, simon might be always tryign to find somethign witty or critical tos ay but i finid that what he says really reflects the voting as opposed to what paula and randy say. they can totally compliment someone to find that they are voted off. but if simon congratulates someone, they are rarely booted. i wouldn't say simon's sexy per se, but he's definitely hilarious and necessary for the show to be as successful as it is.
hisashiluv14
05-03-2004, 01:56 PM
Among the three judges, I think Paula's comments are the most worthless. She's too nice. Her comments don't mean anything. IMO, she says the same things to everyone, just paraphrased and packaged differently. What's the point then?
Randy is more honest but Simon is the ultimate. I doubt very much I'd bother with the show if he weren't on it.
MSV: LOL yeah the auditions. Oh my god, you guys remember that Fookling personality? Bwahahahahahaha! I think I pissed my pants laughing when I saw that. The auditions were the best bit. William Hung was the funniest.
yelen have to agree, paula's comments sound forced sometimes. it's as if she's always trying to make the singer feel better. I'm really doubting if she's qualified enough to actually judge the contestants. she's a singer all right, but her comments are just so not there at times.
yes, simon is definitely sexy. love his accent. without him, his wit, sarcasm and bitchy-ness (is there such a word?) American Idol wouldn't be half as fun.
hisashiluv14
05-06-2004, 12:56 PM
Yeah! And she's always like, "If you release that song right now, it'd be number one." I'm sorry but it just sounds superficial.
Lene do you get AI3 there the same time as the states or is the telecast there delayed? As in do you know the results the same week as the US or...?

I just saw the latest results episode and George is out. Jasmine was the 2nd last also. Thank goodness she made it still to the next round. Next week is Disco night! I hope Jas will do something really diff. So sad the George is out but if not him, it would have been Jasmine. Nooo!
I kinda do not like Diana so much now. I used to but Jas was always no. 1 for me and yeah... she is the only Asian! Cool!
Elisya
05-06-2004, 05:45 PM
George is out. Well...the top 5 are pretty good singers and its sad that George is out but well...every week...1 has to go. All girls right now. Hmm...hopefully, Jasmine will do better next week...I can't bare to see her out...

05-07-2004, 07:51 AM
George's out? Awww..that's sad.I kinda like him coz whenever i see him smiles,i find myself smiling too.And he's got a pretty good voice too.I think Fantasia should be voted out--her voice scares me! Yea..so now there are only 4 females left.Like most of u here,i dont want Jasmine to go too..she has a really wonderful voice, and so does La Toya.I hope one of them will be the next American Idol. But then again,it seems like the Americans like Fantasia...hhmmm.. :worry:
I just wanna share this article about American Idol 3,I got from our newspaper. Enjoy!
What’s happening to ‘American Idol’?!
BACKSTAGE PASS By Lanz Leviste
The Philippine STAR 05/07/2004
Spoiler alert: If you are following the American Idol episodes as they’re shown here in the Philippines and would not like to know the show’s most recent elimination, do not continue reading.
When it comes to American Idol, the best singers of the Top 12 never really win: Tamyra Gray placed fourth in Season 1, and Kimberley Locke and Clay Aiken placed third and second, respectively, in Season 2. Don’t get me wrong, I live for this show, but recently, there have been controversies concerning those who deserve to stay and those who actually get eliminated. Thus, I raise these questions: Can America see (and hear) talent, and should the country really get to decide the winner? Is popularity superseding ability? And what is really happening to American Idol, the world’s biggest talent show?
I’m writing about Idol at this time due to my utter outrage over the elimination of Jennifer Hudson during a show where Fantasia Barrino and La Toya London belonged with her in the bottom three. They were called "The Three Divas," and were widely speculated to become this season’s final three – because of their talents. And yet, on the results show after the Barry Manilow-themed episode the previous night, arguably the most dramatic non-finale results show of Idol history, Ryan Seacrest called out their names and America was stunned. He immediately sent La Toya back to safety, and once Fantasia and Jennifer were left, with his sorriest "We’ll miss you" face, Seacrest announced Jennifer as the latest Idol cast-off. Hudson, who perfectly belted out Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing and Elton John’s Circle Of Life, and who at one point of the show had the highest number of votes, had been eliminated, and then the fireworks began. All of the remaining contestants were sobbing, especially Jen’s best friend George Huff; it was just one of those moments when you knew the whole world was in shock.
The outrage, as expected, poured in. Phone calls to Fox were made, petitions were signed, and accusations were hurled. Idol judge Paula Abdul said she didn’t "know how to sum this up," and Randy Jackson expressed his astonishment by calling the results "crazy" and "insane." "I can’t believe it," he said. Everyone knew Jennifer’s departure was premature, which brings us to John Stevens. No one – not even he – could believe how he could still be in the competition and Jennifer wasn’t. In a final goodbye hug, he even whispered in her ear "It should’ve been me." Pundits started thinking talent didn’t matter anymore and that popularity was driving the majority of the vote, since it wasn’t a secret that millions of teenage girls and Rat Pack-era seniors were the ones keeping the Sinatra wannabe in the competition. Thankfully, he was eliminated the following week.
Same goes with Jon Peter Lewis. JPL was eliminated a week before Jen, and didn’t get this far because he had a good voice, but because of his dance moves and the novelty act that he is. (Writes a fan on the message board of idolonfox.com, Idol’s official website, "I have a feeling John Stevens will win! He is so special and he improves every week. His version of Mandy was spectacular...The momentum is building for you! We’re going to vote over and over and over again – we’ll make you the new American Idol!" A reply from another fan goes: "Are you tone deaf? Or 13 years old and have crush on a cute guy on TV? John is probably a real sweet kid, but he’s no American Idol.")
Some fans didn’t take this injustice sitting down. John received death threats from die-hard fans that believed he caused Jennifer’s boot. His mother, concerned about his safety, even approached Idol producers.
However, amid all the controversy, we still don’t know the real re
ason why the formerly apparent final three became April 21’s bottom three. Internet message boards have been abuzz since Jennifer’s elimination, and several theories have risen, as compiled by Eonline.com:
• Racism– The four best singers in the Top 12 (including George Huff) just happened to be all African American, and this has become the most contentious claim. Many think the vote was racially motivated (even though Season 2’s winner, Ruben Studdard, is black). Previous guest judge Elton John went as far as calling American Idol "incredibly racist." "[They were] the three people I was really impressed with, and they just happened to be black, young female singers, and they all seem to be landing in the bottom three," he protested, citing that at least one of the girls was consistently in the bottom part of the group. "They have great voices. The fact that they’re constantly in the bottom three – and I don’t want to set myself up here – but I find it incredibly racist."
• Computer hackers – On the message board of idolonfox.com, a fan called asks: "I think there are a few smart (ass) computer geniuses who are hacking the system and tampering with the votes! Think about it: How did the top three become the bottom three in a week?"
• Everyone likes the underdog – Some believe that The Three Divas showed arrogance and overconfidence in the past few weeks, knowing their seemingly straight path to victory, and that fans were turned-off. On idolonfox.com, a fan writes: "No doubt [La Toya] has a good voice, but she should go. Her arrogance is extremely obnoxious." Another says about Jennifer: "Her attitude was terrible…" Another theory says that perhaps the divas’ fans were too confident their favorites would win just because they have great voices, and simply didn’t vote.
• The single mom factor – Being a single mom definitely helped Season 1’s Nikki McKibbin garner sympathy votes and reach the final three despite a not-so-great voice, but they seem to be going against La Toya and Fantasia. On a particularly vicious exchange on the Idol message boards, a fan writes, "Younger people admire and look up to the American Idols. Do we really want people looking up to a single mother? A single 19-year-old mother with a toddler?" citing Fantasia’s two-year-old.
• Vote splitting – In this year’s Oscars, two songs from Cold Mountain were nominated for Best Song, but in the end, Into The West from The Return Of The King took the statuette. This was because the Cold Mountain vote was split, and neither ended up winning. La Toya, Fantasia and Jennifer are in the same situation: "It is the same in years when someone wins an Oscar because three better films split the votes. The three ladies more than likely have people voting along the same demographic, and that splits their vote," writes another fan.
• Chicago blackout – One of the more plausible theories is that Jennifer was voted off because her hometown of Chicago had a power outage on the night before the elimination, leaving 15,000 households unable to watch the show or call-in and vote.
But despite the reason for the Idol shocker, we still have the two most talented singers in the competition, and let’s hope this serves as a wake-up call to America. Leah LaBelle (the teenager who was the first to be voted off in the finals) aside, this is the best batch of final 12 the show’s ever had, and America shouldn’t let it go to waste. I do think the country deserves to decide who wins (they are the ones who buy albums and singles), but talent should never replace popularity. (Whatever happens, Fantasia and La Toya will surely get record deals.)
Of the five remaining finalists, here are my picks for who I want to win American Idol (by the time this article is published, another one of the following finalists will be eliminated):
5) Diana DeGarmo
4) Jasmine Trias
3) George Huff
2) Fantasia Barrino
1) La Toya London
yelen nope, we have the delayed telecast over star world. in last night's episode, rod stewart was the judge. I think this tues, Jennifer Hudson will be voted off the show. but our broadsheets spoil it for us anyway. they always feature news that pertain to Jasmine and before, Camille.
Camille, I think is coming over to the Phils for a show.
wow thanks newg that was a good article! The entertainment industry is just a cruel, cruel world. Sometimes talent is not enough to make it. I know she doesn't have the best voice, but I'm still rooting for Jasmine. Was kinda shocked to learn that Fantasia was a single mom, and at such a young age at that.

Camille is coming here? :excited: I like her! I'd definitely come to that show to show my support. I have reading a lot of reviews and they said Camille has the best performance on the American Idol CD.
I've heard their performance for the band era theme (where George Huff got voted off). I have to say, I have to give it to Latoya on that one. Very, very good performance. The songs she performed matched her voice so well and this time around she manages to make higlights of notes that needs a powerful or melodies that needs softness. I like it.
Who do you guys think will be the next one voted off?
I'd personally like it to be Diana. I just don't like her much.

Hey hey, I agree with that too!
I don't like Fantasia and hope she'll be booted off next. Either her, or Diana. I'm hoping Jasmine and Latoya are in the final 2!! I predict that Latoya will win though.
I read at the idol forums that Camile got a call from Babyface after she got eliminated! :excited: I think her future is gonna be good.
Haven't watched the latest episode yet but I'm not surprised that George got voted off.

Jasmine is my least favourite. Actually, I plain don't like her. I don't think she's that good a singer. Definitely pales in comparison to La Toya and Fantasia, even Diana.
I didn't like Fantasia much but I do now. Her rendition of that Barbra Streisand song was beautiful, absolutely beautiful and breath-making. One of the best performances ever in the show.
And La Toya simply has it all. AMI should call it quits if the two of them don't make it to final two together.
I agree with Simon. They are just in a different league, full stop.

im rooting for latoya. she's gonna win for sure! she's got a great voice and a great personality! as randy (or was it paula?) said, she just keeps on getting better and better :wink2:
i like jasmine too! i know compared to the other finalists, her voice aint that good but there's just something about her personality that makes me like her. so im hoping she and latoya would be in the final 2 spot *crosses fingers*
i hope diana will go home next. personally, she's my least favorite out of all the remaining contestants. there's just something about her that sets me off  i was kinda hoping that she would be the one to leave instead of george last week.
i like it when ryan and simon argue. they're just too cute

Okay, I can't believe what just happened. La Toya got booted off while Jasmine got to stay.
I know there are a lot of Jasmine supporters here but even you guys have to admit that she was constantly out of tune. La Toya, on the other hand, was her usual brilliant self. Heck, she's a fantastic singer, truly talented, while Jasmine only has the POTENTIAL to become such a singer.
I'm tempted to say it's racism but I'm trying not to go there. Trust me though, it's tough. How could La Toya and Fantasia, the best singers in the competition, be in the bottom two while Jasmine was safe? I'm sorry but I agree with Randy, it's a travesty.
xiaoli
05-14-2004, 02:58 PM
Wow. Haven't watched it yet, but I did read in the paper that the result would shock viewers. I knew that meant: 1) Latoya had been booted off or 2) Fantasia had been booted off.
WHYYYY LATOYAAA!!? She's the only one, IMO, who really deserves to go all the way. Like I said, I don't like Fantasia (her voice). And though I like Jasmine as a total package, her singing isn't up to Latoya's level. Btw, no, I wouldn't say Jasmine was constantly out of tune. But then again, not like my untrained ear could pick it up. Is that what one of the judges said in the last episode? Because they haven't really criticised her about it before. :? Anyway, she's still talented in her own right and can sing MUCH MUCH better than most of the artists topping the charts these days. If she ended up winning I would still support her if she made good music.
Regarding Latoya and Fantasia.. sure, it's been drilled into our heads by the judges that they're in a league of their own and should be the last two contestants standing.. I wouldn't point the finger at racism though -- in fact, it gets rather annoying when people pinpoint their skin colour as the sole reason why they're not the top vote receivers that week. o_O; Those 2 were the bottom 2 simply because their fans didn't vote enough. If America was really that racist against all non-whites, why would Reuben Studdard have won last year? And why is Jasmine, an Asian, still left in the competition?
I have to agree with xiaoli. they should all put a lid on racism as the reason for not getting enough votes. At the end of it all, it really is a popularity contest. Yes, it's a given that they're all talented (and it's obvious as well who's got more talent and who's lacking) but sadly, there are a lot more factors that come with the votes, not just the contestants' talents. and it's really sad to see the more talented ones leave the show, but that's how the game is played. besides, as early as now, the fate of the more talented ones are more or less sealed already. there's no doubt they'll be able to cut a recording deal and they'll be able to showcase their talent to a wider audience. but the universe just favors some people; luck is on their side.
here's a short piece written by a respected entertainment columnist from the Philippines. Simon was just too mean to jasmine; I cried while reading this!
Will Jasmine Be ÔItÕ?
Yes, Jasmine Trias is still very much in, one of the only three remaining contenders on American Idol which is nearing its moment of truth. HereÕs how Jasmine performed on the Tuesday (May 11) edition of the popular US-TV talent search, excerpted from an account e-mailed to Funfare by a reader (who didnÕt give a name):
American Idol is now on its final third week. In last TuesdayÕs episode each idol was made to sing two numbers from the disco era. Jasmine, singing first, chose Everlasting Love. She performed with zest and enough "birit," it was obvious that she gave her number all her best. The judgesÕ turn to speak their critiques were reversed in order. Firstly, Simon Cowell, the most insensitive one, who said, " I think you know how vulnerable you are, you were probably the next most likely to go. After that performance, you are definitely going to go home, it was a bad choice of song and a weak performance." Donna Summer added that JasmineÕs singing was pitchy. Paula Abdul added, "There was some pitch problems, you found your groove midway through, not my favorite choice of song, IÕm looking forward to your next performance." Randy Jackson opined, "I donÕt think it was that good, you hit the high notes, but thatÕs it, the rest you sounded unsure of yourself."
LaToya London followed with Love You Inside and Out, then Fantasia Barrino with Knock on Wood. Lastly, Diana DeGarmo performed This Is It. In contrast, all the judges, directly and indirectly, gave them praise and superlatives.
After everybody had sung once, it was time for the idolsÕ second numbers. Jasmine sang The Weather GirlsÕ ItÕs Raining Men. During her performance, she descended from the stage and encouraged the audience to participate. You could see from her energetic rendition of the song that she also wanted to win, for herself, for her loved ones, for Hawaii, and for all the people that supported her all this time. She just wonÕt quit without a fight!
Now the judgesÕ comments Ð Simon: "YouÕd better hope that every house in Hawaii has five phones, because youÕre going to need all the help you can get."
Donna: "I didnÕt like the choice of song, but you gave it your best." Paula said, "You got thrown off because you forgot the lyrics, but you covered it nicely. Hawaii loves you. America loves you. I think theyÕre going to be willing to forgive you for that."
Randy: "That wasnÕt your best performance. It was pitchy all over the place." At this point, we noticed in close-up that JasmineÕs eyes were now slowly welling with tears, but she was very evidently and bravely fighting them back.
After her I-gave-it-my-all-performance, the still huffing Jasmine went over to join host Ryan, while he told us the phone number to use when voting for Jasmine, and here is the point when she broke down sobbing quaintly. Ryan noticed and consolingly said, "We love you, Jasmine." Trying to hold back the tears, without success, she sobbed unbashedly this time. Jasmine resp
onded (with a reluctant flying kiss) with, "I love you everybody", addressing the audience. Ryan then gave her a hug.
Expectedly, LaToya LondonÕs DonÕt Leave Me This Way, Fantasia BarrinoÕs Holding Out For A Hero and Diana Degarmo singing the Donna Summer/Barbra Streisand classic No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) all received supreme remarks from most of the judges.
Before the show closed, Ryan Seacrest announced on-air that "tears were shed and Simon Cowell apologized."

i still can't believe latoya was voted off! she is the sole reason why we all watch AI.. well at least I do. personally, id rather have fantasia or diana leave the show than her! she was the best out of the remaining contestants and seriously, american idol would suck now that she's gone. even paula cried when she left and randy even said when latoya was about to sing her final song in AI: "c'mon latoya, show america what they would be missing".. something like that. and if i were one of the judges, i'd definitely feel that way too.
now that the BEST was voted off, let's see who's left in AI.. Diana who's the most irritating, perkiest 16 year old ever. if you ask me, i think she should have been booted off way before when AI had the movie's theme week. just to refresh your memory, she sang Celine Dion's my heart will go on and truth be told, it was the worst rendition of the song ever. and besides, she's just 16 and i doubt it if she can handle the pressure of becoming a singer at such a young age. and next, Fantasia, whose voice i liken to, well, donald duck. seriously, i can't stand her voice. i hear screeching instead of singing. i switch channels every time i hear her voice. she should've been booted off during the top 32. and besides, she's got an attitude problem. and lastly, Jasmine. she's the one im rooting for now that latoya's gone. it's not that im a Filipino and that's why i like her, no. out of the 3, i think she has the most potential to become a true american idol. although sometimes, she is a little pitchy i got to say but i believe she can work that out. and her tone fits all kinds of genre whether it be RnB/soul, latin, pop.. as a total package, Jasmine is definitely IT--out of the 3 remaining finalists that is.
even though latoya was sent home packing, i think she'll have the best career out of all the AI contestants. she has, in my opinion, the best voice in the competition. when i first heard the performances of the top 32 contestants, i knew latoya was going to go far. even be the winner of idol 3. but sadly, that can't be possible anymore. too bad her fans didn't vote enough.
and yeah, i agree with xiaoli, all the discriminating issues against the contestants in AI are just too annoying. if racism was present, then why was ruben crowned winner of idol 2? and why is fantasia still left in the competition? i believe it's just a matter of not getting the highest votes from the people.

Even though I like Jasmine, I have to say that La Toya getting kicked out is just plain unfair and though I would rather not say this, I think there is racism going on. La Toya is such a polished performer, she is not just a constestant to me, she is a star. I think not only does she have the voice, she has the looks and the charisma. Her last words before leaving were so heart moving. She took her leave like a true star. So gracious and modestly . Man, I almost felt like a star had fallen after watching the show yesterday!!

yeah, i like jasmine and all, but latoya's better. i heard a clip of their performances and jas's can't even compare to latoya's! actually, i don't think anyone can that's why i was really surprised to see her leave. i guess jasmine got a lot of "sympathy votes" because simon made her cry. but i wouldn't blame latoya leaving the show to racism. again, it's just plain bad luck that her fans did not vote enough times for her. and besides, if there was racism, then jas would be out of the show now won't she? she is an Asian after all..
but i wouldn't worry about latoya. with her talent, she's definitely gonna have a bright career ahead of her.

Well, it's not the end of the road for Latoya. There's no doubt they've probably already snapped her up for a recording contract. Anyway, as much as you guys would like to disagree, Latoya is out fair and square.
Thanks for the article, lene! Poor Jasmine.. I really don't think her performances have worsened THAT much from the beginning of the comp when they dripped with praise for her. They're all extremely talented to have gotten so far into the comp, I think it's just at this point, the judges just feel they've got to be extra harsh in their critique, especially towards the ones they would like to see eliminated next. Basically what I'm saying is I don't think Jasmine deserved such comments; they're only directing them at her because it's her "turn", so to speak.
I like jasmine a lot although i didn't think she deserved to stay save after tue performance... But i agree it is really a popularity contest... I think jas will be out next wk although i really want her to stay!
You want her to stay yet you don't think she deserves to?
Same here, in a way. I think Latoya deserved to stay more than Jasmine, but I'm still glad Jasmine's in the comp, because there's something appealing about her. And I think THAT is very important when American Idol is over and she's gotta start selling CDs and winning over fans.

I want Jasmine to win.
I don't like Fantasia's voice.
I don't like Diana's personality.
And something else I'd like to add: Even though LaToya had the best voice, it seems like she was "just another black woman singer." There was no difference between LaToya and Jennifer Hudson. It seems to me like 90% of black women singers sing the same powerful and loud kind of way.

Oh gosh i was so damn shocked when i heard La Toya was called to join Fantasia on the stage,i was "so sure" that Jasmine will be voted out of this competition(i'm sure that Jas herself felt the same way too).Honestly,i would really love to see Jasmine being the next American Idol, but with her "getting-more-worst" performances,i kinda worried that she'll not stand a chance. She started off as a very strong performer but then when the number of contestants was narrowed down to 6,everything went down for her.She was really lucky to have gotten into the final 3 and i do hope that she'll manage to bring out a best performance so that Fantasia won't be in the final 2  .
My applause is to Diana--wheew..she has gotten better and better these days. Her performances during the last few weeks were absolutely brilliant! :D If at all Diana and Fantasia were the final 2,i certainly hope that Diana will win.
Anyway, cant wait to see the next episode of American Idol 3...I hope Jasmine will do better this time coz i really dont want to see her leaving.

Jasmine remaining in the show is ridiculous at the expense of one of the best singers Latoya? if she's still in the show next wk, den it proves that Hawaii is spending a whole lot on phone bills and that if Fantasia gets voted out, den erm...America isn't exactly racist-free. i'm not saying Jasmine can't sing, but as compared to the other 3, she's should be gone by this wk....damn! :glug:

Lattae: I miss my pen salesman TOO!!!!!!! Oh my god, I cried when he was voted out!!! And and I mean I was so pissed off because DIANA sang that stupid Titanic song and totally sucked while JPL was like he totally rocked!!
Okay got over-excited there for a bit but really, he was my favourite and I was so devastated when he got the boot. Will buy his CD. Must buy his CD!
Anyway. My mom watches the show with me and she's a classically-trained pianist and whenever I comment that Jasmine is out of tune, she agrees. Seriously, that first song she sang last week, she was out of tune no less than a quarter of the time. I don't think Simon was over the top. What he said was exactly what was in my mind.
I mean, I'm all for Asian pride, but not when the singer in question doesn't deserve it, as compared to singers like La Toya who will deserve all the recognition I am positive she is going to get. I'm sorry but IMO, Jasmine is not good enough.
Regarding Fantasia. It's weird, because I liked her, and then I didn't, and now I like her again. Her rendition of that Barbra Streisand song really really touched me. I mean, I admit that her voice is screechy sometimes but she sings with emotions and she makes you feel those emotions. She's a very, very powerful singer, in all sense of the word, and I hope she wins.
Diana? Forget it. Not gonna make it as long as she's irritatingly perky like that. Strong voice, but not as good as Fantasia.

well accept it. this is the american idol. when u think of idol, they dont necessarily need to be able to sing well. can SHE sing well? can F4 sing well? can energy sing well? some may think so, but i'm sure many of us think not (no offense to the fans of the aforementioned). but still they are idols. same goes for jasmine. she can sing well in general, but in comparison to the rest she sucks. its really sad layota is outta the show, but still i dont think this would really make a difference. she's definitely going to get many singing contracts. jasmine is still there because of a couple of plain simple reasons. she's cute, pretty, and really sweet. u can get diabetes. well this certainly is a popularity contest. i'm quite looking forward to singapore idol.

i didn't think la toya should have gotten out. it's only cuz hawaiians are so hardcore for their little islands (no offense to hawaiians, it's not a bad thing to be "patriotic"). they have like 1.2 mil people and they made 1.3 mil votes.
i think for a. idol you need 2 things: music talent and personality.
for music talent, it's obvious taht all of them can sing some what and if they aren't as good as another person, they can learn. but personality... i think that diana and jasmine are a little fake. it's appealing to people because they are successful in disguising htemselves. jasmine tries to be sweet and diana perky and cute. just my opinion, but i think they should drop that act and be themselves. la toya was sincere and i think fantasia is sincere, however obnoxious that might be.

I'd agree with fungi that one would need more than a good voice to stay in the competition... but seriously, Jasmine is poisoning me big time with her saccharine tainted voice. and she should stop appearing with the flowers :bigyuck:
I still think my lil' pen salesman's the best
and don't you think it's interersting that this season is very "female"... look at the finalists left :worry: I actually prefer male voices... (cos they are generally more soothing) maybe that's why there's less appeal for me this season.

i only really like la toya, and now that she's gone, i don't really care who wins. but it's not like it really matters who wins.. i'm sure jennifer, la toya, fantasia and diana and perhaps jasamine will all get record contracts.
as for the men, throughout all the auditions, done of the men singers really stood out so it's no surprise that none are in the finals. i don't know if i find male voices more soothing but they tend not to do as many thrills that the females do.

i used to tink Jasmine was kinda cute with that flower in her hair. but after awhile it gets extremely sickening. especially when she does that *kiss-fingers kiss air* thank you thank you act. its like she's making saying a simple thank you so disgustingly sweet. yeah, she's poisoning us....i have a good mind not to watch that show anymore...darn...
I have to disagree here :wink2: I really like Jasmine and her voice. I don't think her doing those things like kissing her fingers etc. is exaggerated or put on, I think she's genuinely that sweet. You can see it cause it's part of her character and I don't think there's anything wrong with being sweet like that.
She has an awesome voice - true, not as powerful as Latoya's but excellent all the same. But that's why it's called "American Idol" not something like "American Best Singer". It takes much more than a great voice to win it, if it didn't, Jennifer Hudson would still be there. But the winner also has to have personality...and obviously, Americans still like Jasmine's voice and her personality.
All in all, if Jasmine wins, then I'm happy cause she does have a fantastic voice and I like her. I also really like Fantasia - Woohoo! That girl can sing! :excited:

I don't have a problem with Jasmine's personality. She seems like a really nice girl, and that's cool. But I'm just irritated with the fact that she's not one of the better singers, and yet she's in the top three. Makes no sense.
I was quite okay with her at first, even liked her a bit, but I think she's really getting worse. Seems like ever since that dismal Faith Hill song she's been below her true standards.
When she was good though, she actually reminded me of Christina Aguilera, without the ho act. And IMO, Christina A. is a damn good singer.

05-19-2004, 02:23 PM
Good on ya sha, I for one would also like to see jasmine win. She has a good voice, even though she can't really control it. Some of her notes go out of tune when she sings. (Anybody with musical experience would be able to see this). So yeah, she probably is the weakest singer in terms of singing ability left in the competition. But who cares about that, shes hot! And shes asian! I would totally buy her album if she releases one, especially if it came witha bonus dvd or something :wink2: And by that time, she would probably have had professional voice lessons, so it wouldnt be that bad. :excited:
Thats probably why contestant like Jasmine is still left in the comp, cos of people who think like me and vote. What it come down to in the end is how much the audience like the contestant themselves, and this can be based on many factors, voice and singing ability not neccessarily being the main factor. (Yes, everybody is "racist", but to varying degrees) When these people release albums, the people who buy them will be the people who voted for them.

going as it is... I think I'd prefer Jasmine to win than Fantasia... I don't know, I guess I still prefer Jasmine's voice over Fantasia... and the thing about going "outta tune" many "idols" does that... and you can minimise with training... Jasmine's just got a better overall image. (so sweet you can die). I don't think she's fakin'. There are people out there who are too sweet to be true.
besides, like what QB pointed out, Jasmine has a market behind her... the asian market's not to be reckoned with... we've already got "whites" "black"... now we need a "yellow" ... sounds racist... but in terms of $, I think the record company will be more than happy to have Jasmine

Aww Lattae, my fellow JPL fan! Isn't he the cutest thing ever! Have you checked out this great website dedicated to him? http://www.jonpeterlewis.com
By the way, has anyone bought that American Idol CD? Is it any good? I mean, are the songs nice and is it worth paying good money for? If I buy it it'll be for JPL's song. I love him. He's the best. America sucks for voting him out. :rasp:
I'm as proud an Asian as the next person but I wouldn't support Jasmine just because she's Asian. If I did, I'd want her to win. Talent counts more in my opinion, and the ability to sing in tune for more than half the song. I don't think Jasmine is untalented. She's a good singer, but somehow, she's not performing to the level which is capable of. Unless she improves, I'd want her out by this week.
And if you ask me, CoCo Lee is one of the more credible Asian representatives we have out there. That woman can sing.

You know, a lot of people has bee giving Fantasia flak about her so-called cockiness, me included, but after reading about her sad life story, I actually give her MAJOR props for her immense self-confidence. Pregnant in high school, baby's father is a bastard, dropped out of high school, abused by the bastard... it will tear ANYONE apart. But look at her now. She EXUDES self-confidence. I thought it was over the top at first but nope. I totally understand where it comes from. In that light, she is more real than so many people I know.
I think she will be the most deserving contestant to win. She is also immensely talented, and the way she interprets her songs is just spot-on. She even moved ME to near-tears with that Barbra Streisand song. She's amazing.

the part that amused me most about AI3 is when I watch the commercials that SG tv shows... they have this "voice over" that goes like (in context)... "JPL was never in the bottom 2, yet he's out" "xxx not in the bottom 2 until he's out"... "jasmine and diana has been in the bottom 2 thrice, fantasia twice..." "with the best singer out of the competition (implying latoya)... who's going through to the finals..."

Ah well.. not really surprised either. I don't really care who wins now. Although I'd probably like to see Fantasia take it out a tad more than Diana. Just because her voice is.. eccentric, I guess. At first, I thought Diana sounded a little like Kelly Clarkson
I don't have a problem with Jasmine's personality. She seems like a really nice girl, and that's cool. But I'm just irritated with the fact that she's not one of the better singers, and yet she's in the top three. Makes no sense.

Okay.. so you think JPL should be there instead? :? Cuz even his wackiness can't make up for the fact that his voice is sub-par. Jasmine's much better! There was something endearing about JPL though. Ever since I saw him lying on the street snoozing during the audition shows, I liked something about him. :)
And what doesn't make sense about Jasmine being in the Top 3? She was there cuz people liked her. And along with QB, I'd totally buy her album! Like what everyone else has said a million times, it doesn't matter if you have the voice of Whitney Houston. That doesn't guarantee you'll be the American Idol. If no one bothers to vote for you, who's to say they're gonna support you when it's all over? Yeah, I agree, Christina Aguilera has an AMAZING voice. I love her! But look at Britney Spears -- she mimes during live shows.. her voice isn't fantastic.. but she's more popular.. she sells more.. and she's more of an "icon" than Christina.

Ok I don't like Fantasia. Her voice just simply does not do it for me. It's good but there's something missing for me. Personally I was rather annoyed on the 1st night that she performed cos it seemed to me that all the judges were interested in was praising her to keep her in. ( After last week's departure of La Toya whom in my opinion is the overall best singer in terms of voice and stage presense, they badly wanted to keep Fantasia in) They kept on praising her even though she shouted too much and sang like a duck that night. On the other hand, they kept putting down Jasmine when to me she really didn't sing that bad. It seems to me that they were so bent on kicking Jasmine out that night already.
I like JPL too. I mean he may not have the most powerful voice around, but his personalty has something attractive in it. I would call it the elusive X-Factor. As unfair as it may sound, the best singer might not be the biggest star and vice versa. Take Jay for example. He's not the best singer around but he's attractive in his own way. I feel that way too often AI is filled with too many singers with big lungs and big voices. It gets very boring after a while.
To me, it really doesn't matter who wins now. If I had to pick my preference, it would probably be Diana. But I think Fantasia will win. Either way, I don't really care anymore.

hey, i heard from my collegues today that australia's idol, Guy Sebastian, appeared in AI3, is this true? i think they said it was the previous episode, but i'm not sure. and they said he sang as well. can anyone confirm this? :?

Dazzlette, yeah, I don't think Jasmine stood a chance with the judges because even if she had performed well, they wouldn't dare say anything positive about her because they wanted her out.
Teresa: I saw Guy!! lol.. he was on about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I didn't see him perform though!! He was just sitting in the audience with a beanie on, and Ryan Seacrest just went over and introduced him.. that was it. It'd be great if he performed, cuz that would give him further recognition in the stages apart from World Idol.

xiaoli--> maybe he was back....we haven't seen the jasmine eviction episode yet so maybe he was invited back to be a guest, like that Clay guy... :? i hopes anywayz....
back to jasmine, i think the judges' comments really influenced the way the ppl voted. they (esp cowell) made it clear that jasmine shoudn't have survived the episode that la toya was voted off.
i think that the judges should be scraped after the top 5 have been selected. let ppl make up their own minds.

My mom didn't even bother to listen to Jasmine sing after she was voted out. Asked her why: "Even the first line she sang was out of tune." (My mom is a classically-trained pianist.)
I don't see what is so great about Jasmine. I don't care that she's Asian. For me, I don't like her because she's not good enough, simple as that.
Xiaoli: No, I don't think JPL should be there. I knew he wouldn't last long in the competition either anyway. He isn't that good of a singer, but I liked and still like him because he's different. He's real, he's not at all pretentious, and he's always been himself. Of course, if he made it to the final 3 or whatever, it would be nice, but I'm not surprised that he didn't. In fact, I'm surprised that he made it to the final 12. What didn't make sense to me is that people like Jasmine. And if you say that people voted for her because they like her, then AMI is a mere popularity contest. And there I was, stupidly thinking that it was a *talent* contest. Even Ryan Seacrest seemed to share my moment of stupidity. My bad, then.
Toss up between Diana and Fantasia, definitely go for Fantasia. She is amazing. And the judges praise her because she's good. That's all I can say.

hisashiluv14: Well, that's fine, if you don't like Jasmine because she's not good enough. Some of us like her for other reasons, like why you like JPL, even though he's not good enough either. He was cool, but some of his perfs bordered on comedic. And umm ok, my bad for not knowing "JPL should've at least been in the top 3" actually meant "I was surprised he got into the top 12". And no, American Idol isn't a mere popularity contest, it's a popularity contest AND a talent contest AND a TV program devised to pull in millions of $$$ and high ratings for the network all wrapped up in one. Spiffy, ain't it. :)
Teresa: yeah.. also, Simon's comments are generally the most influential on voters. Ohhh.. I missed the Final 3 special show tonight. Hope to see Guy on AI3 too! Clay was invited back like 2 or 3 times, I think.

The title of the show is American Idol anyway. As much as it should be a talent contest, the fact that the people decide who goes through to the next round show actually show us that it is a popularity contest as well. Talent shows have always been around but AI itself is such a phenomenon simply because it is the people who choose their idols and not the judges. At the end of the day, it is the people who buy the albums and make the singers successful.
I felt pissed with the judges that day cos it was so obvious that they just wanted Jasmine out and Fantasia in. It didn't matter if Jasmine sang well that day or Fantasia sang badly. And obviously the position of the judges swung votes. I don't want Fantasia to win. If Jasmine won sympathy votes for crying on the prvious episode, then Fantasia won sympathy votes too by being 'one of the divas and yet almost got voted off'.

I don't understand why there are so many fantasia haters over here. She can really connect well with her audiences when she's on stage and she sings quite well. :)
Besides singing well, I think an idol has to know how to bring life to a performance too.
I felt pissed with the judges that day cos it was so obvious that they just wanted Jasmine out and Fantasia in. It didn't matter if Jasmine sang well that day or Fantasia sang badly.
Hmm.. i guess they wanted someone who is consistent and not someone who wavers btw good and bad.

Hey ker_ai_teresa, I did see Guy Sebastian on American Idol 3. He was performing on stage. I forgot what song he sang because i didnt really pay attention. He was on the one where Jasmine was kicked off I think. I thought he was pretty good.
I really wanted Jasmine to win. She can sing :sing: very well and she definetly has the looks. There is something about those other two finalist that i dont like. It seems they have this kind of attitude thing. Well this is how i see them as. Dont have to agree with me on this. I do have to give Fantasia her props. She does sing way much better than Jasmine. Her voice is so powerful. I forgot about the other girls name, nothing wowed me about her. Shes ok. I think Fantasia is gonna win.

I don't understand why there are so many fantasia haters over here.
we don't hate her. we just don't like her voice. opinions are aways subjective so it's okay if you don't understand why. :wink2:
madison--> hey thanx for your info! the jasmine episode is airing here tonight, so i'd definitely watch it! :)
Yeah, Guy's apparently really liked in the US - well, that's what I heard on tv - but good for him, I love the guy. Much more talented than Shannon. It's showing tomorrow night for me...but it's kinda dumb cause I already know Jasmine's out. But I am looking forward to Guy singing.
I, for one, adore Fantasia...she has charisma that girl does but I feel Diana is sadly lacking in it. She just doesn't touch me in any way whereas Fantasia does, especially with that song by Barbra Streisand.
Undoubtedly, Diana has a great voice but that's where it stops. I never really liked her...not sure why. It's that elusive characteristic, that something special that Fantasia has but Diana dosn't. But we're all gonna disagree on that huh? :wink2:
I'm still sad about Jasmine's fate... was crying while reading the article on her in our local daily. be that as it may, I'm confident that she'll go a long way. She's still young anyway, and her voice still has a lot of room for growth and improvement.
as for the final too... may the more deserving idol win. I don't like both girls much so I can't really say... but I have to agree, personality-wise, diana lacks that x factor in her. I'm looking forward to the finals nite

yay!! i saw Guy on AI3 tonight!! doesn't he just rock? :D
you know tonight's episode just proves how biased the judges all are. i mean. sure they're there to give constructive criticism and feedback to the contestants but i just feel that they're trying too hard to push who they think should win, onto the audience and voters. saying things like, "tonight is your last night" (or whatever the exact words were) to jasmine and that she only has the support of hawaii to thank, for being in the last 3, just isn't fair. come on, does simon cowell really think that the other contestants aren't getting support from their hometown/state? if i was living in hawaii i'd be pretty insulted.
and of course we all know who they want to win.

hahaha...just watched it!!
yay! go the fro!! i just thought he was rather corny at the end saying "gday to my mates" or something like that
but...jasmine is out....about time i guess....
wow...i never liked diana ...until i heard that last song she sang ...the one chosen by that old guy..... pretty impressed... :D

haha yay! another fro supporter here! :D *where's that fro smiley when I need it*
I wasn't used to all those changes to the way he sang Angels Brought Me Here though. and might I add, those jeans + blazer combos look good on guys. I'm glad Guy beat Shannon becuz he's so much more appealing on an international level.
cloudy --> lol i know, why did he say that for?
Latoya should REALLY be in the final 2 against Fantasia. Now that'd be a great battle... I wonder who the judges would root for.. "Miss. Best Voice in the Comp" or "Miss. Unique"

YAY GO GUY!!! heheha
newais onto america..
dammit jasmine always looks so sweet but did u guys see how much support she got from her home town compared to Diana and Fantasia??!!
OMG!!!
lolz and there were ppl from her skool holding up signs saying they used 5 phones to vote for her...phhww..no wonder she made it to the top 3 then!
but GO FANTASIA.....love her voice!
and yes, cloudsurfer, i agree with u! i didn't like diana's voice until the last song...i was like WHOA where did that come from??!!
shez very cutesy tho...but i like her fringe, it really suits her

No problem ker_ai_teresa. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I know what you mean. They are so biased, especially Simon. He just want to get the audiance to agree with him like you said. He insults those people. Simon is funny at times but he can be really mean. He will just say whats on his mind and never caring about how that person feels. :-x
I swear, everytime Guy sings "Angels Brought Me Here" live, I get chills  Seriously hey, I reckon it's much better than the album version. Dunno...maybe cause it's more free, less restricted and more emotive. Like when he first sang it on Australian Idol...I still remember it cause it nearly made me cry. I thought he was great on American Idol...let's hope he does well all over the world!
But it was kinda anti-climatic for me when I watched AI on Sunday night cause I already knew Jasmine was out. And she took it so well, I personally don't know how she can always smile like that. I'll miss her. And she sang that song! The one she sang in the 3rd/4th week that impressed and touched me so much - now I know what it's called! Woohoo!
But yeah, Fantasia was excellent, especially her rendition of Whitney's "Greatest Love Of All". I already love that song and she sang it so well. Wasn't it sweet how she was so happy she was crying?
And I admit, Diana's "Don't Cry Out Loud" was really well done too. I admit that reluctantly however  But my fave is still Fantasia and always will be. Yeah, I'm biased :wink2:

actually, i've heard angels brought me here so many times, i'm kinda sick of it. but yeah, hope guy does well in the USA.
yeah, i have to agree that even tho i don't like fantasia's voice (*thinks of donald duck*), she did a fantastic job with greatest love. she conveyed the emotions really well.
but to me, the thing with singing with emotions is kinda hard. the judges criticized jasmine for not singing with enough feelings when she did all by myself, but then, how can she sound sad and afraid of being alone, if she's never had that fear b4? it's pretty hard to ask someone to feel something they haven't felt b4, so it would have been hard to fake it esp with that song.

chankel how can u say fantasia sucks??!! omg...well its ur opinion i guess but i love fantasia!!!
and i reckon she'll be the next idol....diana is like...too....uggh...sugary sweet
and yes Sha Jasmine took it really well...i guess it was pretty obvious after what simon said about it 'having to stop here'....cos he's had enough or something...
and yes, THAT song...aiiii....its the only song she sang well throughout the whole competition i reckon.....

So I guess, based from Jasmin being voted out. My pick for American Idol would be Fantasia. She really sings well and most of the comments that the judges gave her were positive. I was bummed when La Toya was cast out. She really was good. If she was in Diana's place and La Toya and Fantasia would be the two semi-finalists, it may be hard to choose between the two of them. They're both good singers.
Teresa: Yeah, I agree with you about the emotion thing. I mean, Jas is only 16(?) and they expect her to be able to convey the feelings of a woman who's gone through a lot of pain in her life and is alone. Hello!! Jas is just starting her life...how can they expect her to have the experience of something like that?
I think Simon is an idiot. I.D.I.O.T. At first he was kinda amusing but he never has anything positive to say. I mean, there's nothing wrong with telling it like it is but at least give them some constructive criticism so they can improve on what they've done wrong. I mean, alot of people say Dicko is an idiot too cause he's too harsh but I respect him cause he'll tell the person straight but he'll also tell them how to improve. I mean, how many times has Ryan asked Simon to elaborate and he just CAN'T. I don't know why Simon's there, seriously.
And I can't watch AI cause it's showing on Friday here and I have class!! ARGH!! Thank God for VCRs huh? :brows:

I just saw the show and all I can say is oh my gawd! Fantasia was da bomb! Haha! I mean it! Her last song... the American Idol single for this season was just totally tops! Fantasia can sing inspirational songs very very well. Unlike Diana who just likes to showcase her powerhouse voice but does not have a hint of emotion at all.
Saw Jasmine in the audience. Miss you Jazzy!
I hope Fatasia wins!!! I clapped for her in my bedroom and my dad thought I was nuts. :D

THE JUDGES ARE BIASED!!!! :ranting:
simon to fantasia: "You've just done your acceptance speech with that song"
simon to fantasia: "you're the best contestant out of all the contestants we've had from all the seasons"
so who does simon want to win again?
anywayz, the single is okay...i will give credit where credit belongs, and say that fantasia did sing the single better than diana.
did anyone notice the look in fantasia's eyes? wow! she looked determined to win the title!

Woo Hoo!!! Fantasia won!!! :) *cheers & screams*
I know she was going to win and she did win AI3. I think she sings great on the single there...she has a nice voice. In my opinion, it was a close competition because Diana and Fantasia both can sing.
I miss Jasmine...saw her in the final. *smile*

for me, i miss la toya. how i wish she were in the finals together with fantasia.. she's definitely a better competitor than diana and with her in the finals, she will make the show more much exciting too. as a whole, i think this year's AMI is not as good as last year's. last year, i had a hard time choosing who is going to win because clay and ruben are equally good. this year, i could almost predict that fantasia is going to win some how or another. diana just don't click with the audience and her voice is not as smooth as fantasia when she sings. the 'i believe' song she sang is really a huge difference from the version sang by fantasia.

i'm not a supporter of fantasia, but she does deserve to win. she's performed so well throughout the comp and has the personality to become a big star.
she was so emotional when she sang the single....i cried too... i'm a sucker for emotional scenes

and yeah fantasia really deserved to win, i think it was kinda obvious....ah well

To be honest with you, Simon *makes* American Idol. The show would be ultra-boring without him. And seriously, what he says is what many of the contestants value most. It's obvious. When Simon says something positive (and yes, he does say positive things) the look on the contestant's face is like... he's just won the lottery or something. Somehow, his approval matters more.
And I personally think he's amazingly sexy but that's just me. :)
Loved Fantasia's closing during the performance night. I was so moved. I am so buying her album, although it's not really my type of music but what the hell. I'm glad America got it right.
Ahhh...Fantasia won! How happy am I? :) Very.
Personally, I don't think 'Believe' is that great a song. Yes, the first verse is something amazing, especially when Fantasia sang it in that voice that causes me to break out in goosebumps but the chorus and the rest of the song isn't right. I think it gets climatic too fast wheras it should build up slowly to really make you feel the emotion behind the song. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
Yes, I also cried when Fantasia won. Ya know when she was on her knees and trying to sing but the words were coming out all emotional? Argh...that really touched me. She deserves to win.
Hey my fellow Jasmine fans: Do youse reckon she'll get a record contract anyway? Fingers crossed huh? :wink2:
Oh, and how fabulous was Tamyra Gray? With the American national anthem? Man, there wasn't even any music and she pulled it off so well.

^ Sha, i hope so that jasmine will have a contract! i'd like her to win. but since she's out i'd go for diana. but unfortunately fantasia won. i think she dserves it though.
this is what i noticed. black singers are more good than white. right? diana vs fanstasia. :)

i'm not as attached to this AI as the previous two... i find this season boring.
i'm not a fan of fantasia so i didn't really care that she won... i was hoping Diana would win... i'm sure she'll have a contract soon also.
i have to disagree with you cpopbaby... i don't think fantasia's voice is as nice as diana's... i find fantasia's voice annoying... what i notice from these shows is that there are better female singers than male.

this is what i noticed. black singers are more good than white. right? diana vs fanstasia. :)
i don't see it that way. black singers aren't necessarily better or more talented, it's just a matter of style. if you listen to a variety of quality black female singers you'll notice they sound about the same. strong voice, big set of lungs and the ability to do amazing trills. this style of singing is popluar and strangely enough found in a lot of black singers.
but just because you don't sing like that doesn't mean you're not as good.

Oh, and how fabulous was Tamyra Gray? With the American national anthem? Man, there wasn't even any music and she pulled it off so well.
that was beautifully done - but how inappropriately did the audience act? its the national anthem for goodness sakes...just let her finish! don't hoot and holler in the middle! i'm not super patriotic or anything, but still i think its a matter of being polite.
i'm going to respect people liking fantasia's voice, but personally i prefer clearer voices like diana's. i kept getting the impression that with a scratchy voice, you can mess up and you can still pull it off by saying thats just how your voice sounds....
