Well... i don't know much about Vietnam and i thought i would be knowing more about your country and culture, specially that i have a Vietnamese roommate now...

BUT...

we don't get along too well.

At first, we did get along fine... even though we have different personalities...(cos she's an introvert and is really really quiet and she's a loner... she doesn't have much friends and stays in our room always... while I am an extrovert... i am quite loud and cheery and have many friends and have fun most of the times.)

BUT...
there was an instance that changed that.

We had a disagreement over a friggin' door. Long story short, she didn't want noise when she sleeps and so i'm confuzzled with what to do with the door that is always bumped by the wind, thus makes noises.

We fixed it somehow, but nothing's been the same. I try my best to keep very very quiet when in our room (cos that's how she likes it) and as much as possible, i try to get back very late, when i'm very very tired so i can just go to bed and sleep (but she's still on her computer even at friggin 3am! so, i MUST sleep with the lights on.)

We don't speak anymore, even our limited 'hi's and hello's' ...

i don't take it against Vietnamese in general, because i think it's just a personality problem...

But i don't know Vietnamese culture and people, so...

is there any advise you can give on how i could better my relationship with her?

Or do you think i should go on my life and not mind her...? Cos she obviously doesn't wanna be friends with me, cos when i wrote to her regarding our disagreement, she just said:

"good relationship, thank you. but for me, just don't disturb each other is okay."

and then she bought a new handphone but she didn't tell me her number... i mean, roommates should know each others' numbers right?

and whenever i try to strike a convo with her, like:

me: Hien, what did you do over the weekend?
Hien: Why? What's the matter?

that's how she answers. I mean, shouldn't you be answering back and then start talking....?

It's really a hard time for me.

As for the ones that me_online mentioned: jaychouvn.net or jayvn.uni.cc, neither are working for me. Perhaps your discussions for a Vietnamese FC/website are valid. If there are so many fans of Jay in Vietnam, yet there is no Vietnamese Jay site's... maybe you guys can be the one's to achieve that?

Hi,how's is your assignment?Seems nobody this question.But i'm not sure about it 2.Just know that French had dominated Vietnam about 100 years.Therefore many old ppl in Vietnam know French.Howver,nowadays,French is not popular in Vietnam as well.English now is more popular than Frech a lot.However,the education system of Vietnam is not really concentrate for learning foreign language.They like to teach student about something like Math,physic,chemistry more.
I used 2 study French in 10 years,but feel stuck of it somehow.Maybe bcuz i couldn't understand the news of my fav singers by English,ha ha.That's why i ran away to study English now. :shy:
And any chinese name can translate to Vietnamese.

maihuongAs for your question regarding language, we ask all netizens to post in English...even in their own country forums. Rep points can be deducted by any JCNetizen, not just by the moderators/admin. I have noticed that this rule is relaxed to a degree in the private country threads, but it is still better to abide by the forums rules then to push your luck.

that's because you dont have enough points. you only have. if you want to gain more points, you have to do most posts - ie reply to more threads and get involved with the forum. the more you get involved, the more points you get. you should read the faqs before you ask this sort of stuff.

For example , Ho Chi Minh, I guess Ho is the surname but what about Nguyen Thai Hoc, is Nguyen the family name too ?
and Emperor Bao Dai , Bao is his surname or his middle name ? I’m curious since he named his princess Phuong Mai instead of Bao something :? .

I was born in the US to Bahamian parents( From the Island of the Bahamas-British West Indies). So I am not Vietnamese. Many of my very good friends are and I just enjoy learning their language to try to communicate with them in their native language. That is quite OK girlie.

I am in my thirties non-married, so you would have to address me as Chao Ba for respect. Like the majority of the Jay fans in this forum, I like Jay because he makes really good music. I feel that no matter what culture background you are, if you really love music in your heart, you will be willing to listen/like all types of music despite cultural background and language barriers. I have told myself do not let barriers deter me from liking anything, and that means music as well.

I have always been this way since I have known myself, and I love to learn other people's languages/cultures so that I can communicate with them in their language. I allow myself to take in all the knowledge that I can. I have many friends from many cultures and this really helps me with my thinking about understanding them better as individuals and their culture. I love other cultures, mostly motivated by Asian cultures. Jay Chou has been a great help with my learning Mandarin and knowing more about his culture and appreciating it as I continue to keep listening to him, really helps me too!
So please don't find it shocking for someone with my background to like the Asian culture. Maybe you don't find it everyday, but there are many non-Asians who like Jay Chou in the world, who appreciate Jay, as well as, Asian cultures.

Please don't apologize. I am sorry if I caused any confusion. Even though I do speak English, I get a little confused sometimes. Like you I love Jay Chou, which you don't find everyday originality and uniqueness. I really cannot compare his singing to anyone else. he has great vocals. Since I do write songs, my goal is to write a song in Mandarin and try to present it to him. That would be the highlight of my life. I am sorry if I confused the Vietnamese language as well. My friends taught me when you are speaking to an older person to say Chao ba, and to a younger person Chao chi. maybe I got them mixed up. So I have been greeting people all wrong I guess. Yep, Vietnamese language is a bit complicated for foreigners to study ,especially in greeting. It also depend on your age as well as your age distance. For example : if you were a teenager , you'd call the person who is older than you :"chi" and "em" for who is younger than you . And if u were in your twenties or thirties , usually you'd call the person who is older than u : "ba"and "chi" or "em" for the person who is younger than u. "Chi" is also used for your friend if u were in your thirties :D
