Jay raked in NT 18,000,000 for the month of October
Okay, let's do a rough conversion first.....
going by the rate of NT20 = S$1, and S$1.80 = US$1
So that makes NT18,000,000 = S$900,000 = US$ 500,000
hmmm.... that didn't sound as impressive as NT$????
During this harsh economic times, many singers are stuck at home with no work, Jay not only broke the 350,000 album sold mark, his popularity in China can only be described as 'Red Hot'. Just for the month of October, he accepted 6 perfromances in mainland China, perfaorming from Wenchou to Suchou. At a 'fixed price' of US$85,000 per appearance, for the month of October, Jay stood to pocket a total of US$510,000 for the 18 songs he sang altogether.
Alfa's manager, Yang Jun Rong, was scheduled to accompany Jay for all his October engagements, but after Jay's performance in Wenchou, they were invited by the locals to a banquet. Due to the loads of delicious goodies served, Mr Yang managed to overeat and got himself a bad stomach upset. As a result, he had to return to Taiwan ahead of schedule.
Talking about Jay's fame in Wenchou, he said,"Wow, not only 30,000 fans managed to crowd into the stadiums, they even found out which hotel and which room Jay was supposed to stay in. They tried to call him, and even tried to sneak into his suite to see him. As a result, every night, the entourage had to chose someone every night to pay the role of 'Jay', staying in the hotel suite. As for the real Jay, he stayed in another undisclosed suite in another part of the hotel instead."
Jay's popularity in Taiwan had not reach mainland China when Jay first released his first album. Mr yang remembered when Jay was in Hunan promoting his first album, "Although he was gaining recognition from the media at that time, but there weren't much fan chasing after him. So we could walk freely on the dirt roads in Hunan, and was free to try all the local specialties. Also, Jay was not earning a lot at that time, so the hotel he was staying in Hunan was not a very good one."
But it all changed when Jay's second album Fantasy sent him into orbit. His fame skyrocketed, and many organisers began approaching him with concert offers. Mr Yang, who was once a singer, used his own experiences to advise Jay, "Let's not hurry". After a patient wait of one year, Mr Yang could sense that the fans' anticipation for Jay had built up to the bubble point, then he told jay, "It is now time for us to storm the China market!"
Based on Jay's popularity, he was invited to attend a prize presentation ceremony where he was to sing three of his songs during the ceremony. Mr Yang specially requested for the organisers to prepare a grand piano onstage for Jay to show his piano playing and singing skills. Mr Yang revealed, " Fans in China value talents in artistes, and Jay not only can he sing and write songs, his talents for the piano will further impress his fans in China, convincing them of Jay's talents."
After his engagements in China this month, Jay is scheduled to 'attack' the Hong Kong market, and due to have three concerts in the famous Hong Kan Stadium in December. Jay is also booked to perform in Las Vegas in US and another concert in the west coast, for the Christmas period. Even Japan, who is usually skeptical of non-Japanese aritstes, after hearing of Jay's fame, also invited him for a concert in Japan....

MacDawn's Footnotes:

Come on, it would be a 'sin' to miss his concert... who knows when he
